Imo, the styling of the RS is prefect. It's not as wild as the type r or as tame as the Golf R. It's just right, and it's easily distinguished from an ST. Personally from a perfomance standpoint, I wouldn't trade my RS for an STI. The RS trounces it in all aspects, but to each their own I guess

I'm with you. I sold my 2013 Focus ST with 422whp built block to buy a new WRX, did not handle as good as the ST so sold the WRX and bought a Evo X. Evo X with full bolt ons with rims and lowering springs looked great and power was very good but I was missing how fun the ST was to drive. Sold the Evo and bought the RS. Now I'm happy now I'm satisfied....Dropped an NX2 turbo in it and could not be happier!!!

The car is $31,997. Looks great in white and is already tinted. If you wanted an RS this one deserves a look.
That is a good price because it does have less than 12,000 miles.
That's a great buy if the car has a clean CARFAX. Those prices don't exit here in CA. A 2017 Focus RS with under 15k miles is 34-37k. I'd be tempted to buy this white RS, however the shipping costs would be way too high. For anyone living in FL though, 32k is a great deal.

Near me it’s a brand new one 2017 for 36190 and they have another one for 36000. The 36190 is a fully loaded with sunroof and rs2. The other one is too but black. I’m not sure what’s missing in the black one.

@@RaitisRides Nitrous Blue. Bought in in Virginia since I was on travel for work then when I got relocated to Maine, I drove it there. Then drove it back to San Diego when it was time for me to go home. As much as I love driving, this car definitely inspired me to drive a lot more!

If you want a great hot hatch RS is the way to go, mine now has almost 70,000 miles on it with upgrades (intake, exhaust and tune just to name a few) and it still runs great, it will beat most of anything around where I live, love it and have no plans to get rid of it
If I was in Florida I'd definitely check this one out. Around $30k and less than 15k miles is a steal!

Thats all BS !!.... RDU isn't an issue at all, Headgasket issue is last years news, yes the ride is firm with sport damper setting but that's why it handles like its on rails. Interior quality is nice i don't know where that nonsense comes from..... This car is frequently compared to cars that cost twice as much FACTS !!!
Ive owned mine over a year and i love it so much.....Nothing out there beats it for the money. It makes my friends 2015 STI feel like a tractor which just had a full engine replacement at 45k miles bone stock.

Interior on RS probably wins. WRX and STI aren’t known for the luxuries. They are about the driving. I’ve never driven the RS but the Focus ST has a nicer interior than my 2015 WRX with the ST2 pack.
Looks awesome in the white with the dark tint, Your right about the fact they should have made them wider. I saw one a few months back with a wide-body kit on it, It looked fantastic. Should have been like that from factory, guess you can't get everything though lol.

Congratulations on your purchase, but you need to understand that people buy the STI or the RS for its performance and not for the Interior. That’s like buying a street bike like a Yamaha R6 and complain because it has very little storage space.
@@quentinturnage7252 totally agree but like I mentioned before you also have to be happy with the interior of the car just as much of the outside so for me they're both great cars and the RS better in some ways then the STI but the STI ultimately had enough for me to lean towards it.

I had a 2018 fiesta, the new generation as a courtesy car while my 14 focus got repaired and the fiesta had zenons that moved around the corners and the difference was colossal

Dylan Wakley ; Very true. I find halogen headlights actually dangerous. They are so dim and yellow. Retrofit your car with some HID headlights. The safety issue alone besides the great looks is reason enough to do it.
Philip Rosenthale yeah I’d love some HIDs, although I’m sick of being blinded by HIDs and xenons even when they’re on dip haha
I love my ST but would absolutely love to have an RS. Ford should make them to order. Instead of producing a lot of them hoping they sell, just have them available for purchase and build them per customer.

Had a 2003 svt, learned to drive manual I It haha. Had to sell it in 2014, and got crazy excited when they announced the RS coming in 2015. Here we are in 2020 and I think I might finally be able to afford one of these babies. Lol

Nezzybit I went and test drove a RS yesterday and it was a blast. But my 80lb dog barely fit in the hatch and then i sat in a R and it was so much more comfortable but way less character. Good luck!
I'm mainly considering the swap cause my R is the DSG and I miss having a manual. I definitely have no problems with the car, just finding myself bored with the paddles. Still a hell of a car and great interior

Just FYI, you can get the forged rims with the RS1 package. That's what I did. I didn't want a sunroof :)
Thanks for the information I don't like sunroofs they leak & your cutting a hole in the top structure roof a car without sunroof handles so much better & quiter drive
That RS sure is a sexy car & I keep watching this video. I just love the White w/ black wheels & the dark tinted windows. This car is perfect already, just buy it, keep in clean & drive it, nothing needs to be done, I love it.

I’m about to go pick one of these up, been very picky with the focus rs, and an evo X, they are really hard to find and the interior of those cars are ancient. So I think Focus rs since it’s a newer platform

I own and bought a brand new rs nitrous blue 2017 , it's the most amazing car I've driven and I love it , I won't be trading for anything else as for the money and driving experience there's nothing to touch it

You always do a great job of a honest detailed review. I have a 2018 limited edition being delivered to a Carmax near me. I want to drive it and see what I think. I have a srt4 for 18 years. Not sure I’m ready to part with it even if I buy the focus rs.

@@FreshlyBaked13 Yes, I bought it. Racer Red 2018 model limited edition at Carmax. 42K dollars. Only 15k miles. The car is amazing and handles like no other. I still love my srt4 because it is a far cruder nastier car, but still delivers the thrills and smiles. The Focus is a far more refined car and obviously benefits from more modern technology. I'm living the car dream life for now and hope I never need to sell either car. Did you make the purchase of your RS?
@@handmouth i found a 2018 in blue with 13k miles going for 43k on carmax, it’s currently being shipped over to me as we speak. If all goes well with the test drive and the seat positioning doesn’t bug me too much I’ll probably go for it. Coming from a brz i do enjoying the feeling of riding on the ground like a proper sports car.
ford nailed it with this car it handles amazing sounds amzing from factory its the perfect car to get and leave stock unles u lower it and do like dp and tune this car is awsome right out box i like the white i think looks best in grey and black but seeing the white looks really good
White in Color makes the the car stand out more. Reminds me of my old 1991 Honda Civic Hatch Back.

Turns out the head gasket issue was because some cars got mustang head gaskets instead of the proper rs gasket

I'd be curious as to why the previous owner took such a huge loss on a trade-in & went with an STI? He must of not liked something about the RS? We here so many mixed reviews about the ride quality, the seats etc.
I think if you asked 100 people you are going to get almost 100 different answers. I really enjoy my RS, but that's me. You really need to take one for a test drive!
I have a black 2017 RS. It's hands down more powerful than the old tech 2018 STI. Has more power than the 2019 STI S209 at Stock power. The Interior of RS is very nice to me and you don't buy a performance car for the interior, you buy it for the fun factor. You people that hate on the RS just can't stand to see a FORD beat out your precious little 4 banger.

Stock RS tune at the wheels on 93 octane is 286 whp/ 320 wheel foot pounds of torque. Way higher than any stock STI. Stop being so butthurt about your slow Subie and get a faster car.

Not for me, I draw the line when the engine displaces less water than the soda in my hand. That being said we need the focus and fiesta to keep us competitive in the 4 cyl market

The Euro model RS has the cup holder sliding cover. Iv'e seen a video where a US RS owner ordered one and swapped it out. Not sure why America gets less compared then other countries. I think the MK2 Focus fenders were flared out more then the MK3 also.
Yes you are correct the Euro version does! Which makes me scratch my head! Also, you are right the Mk2 fenders are way more flared! I actually like the look of the Mk2 better than the Mk3.
We don't get the euro option because it has a hidden compartment therefore not compliant for NA production

After fully watching I'm thinking he modded the car... sounds like he even might have gotten a tune. RR, does your sound exactly the same with all the popcorn? My WRX doesn't pop and crack like that and it's Pro Tuned?
The pop & crackle was something that the head engineer at Ford wanted in the car. The owner added a blow off valve and I think that is about it.
Be careful if there is still some ford warranty on the engine. If the car had been tuned at all or any aftermarket parts. Should anything happen to what would normally be covered under warranty, they will deny it before you finish dialing the number.

This is not true. Up to 375hp with mountune does not void warranty. Catback exhaust does not void warranty. There is plenty of things you can do without voiding warranty. Source: my own ford dealer

why is the turbo making that sound? is that all due to the new air filter, or some sort of blow off valve he installed? or just because the hood is open, ive never heard my turbo whoosh like that(I have a 2017 focus rs, also white, same options)
I was not a fan of this car online. Where I work at someone drove up in one. In person they are nice looking. The internet dose not do them justice

Joe, with regards to the head gasket issues, did all of the 2016's have the issue? How about the 2017's? If so, has every recall been completed & how would we know? Would it be safe to buy a used 2016-2017 RS if it's not showing on a Carfax that the head gaskets have been replaced?
Yes all 2016's and 2017's. You can run the VIN with Ford and it will tell you. I will dig up the Ford site for you that has the place to enter the VIN.
I'm just jealous how much cheaper the go fast parts are compared to my STi......ugh....$5K for the essentials with E85

Usually the lower the mileage the better. This one had under 12,000 miles on it and it was in great condition. Just make sure that the head gasket was replaced. if you can search to vin to get confirmation that would be best.
Why do you say head gasket should be replaced? Is that something that these cars are known for?
Joe, how many miles do you think someone will get out of the tires if you daily drive it? Also at 12:41 it said 20.3 MPG, so I guess that's about as good as that engine will do?
Nope. I get 24-25 with mine.
With proper tire inflation 24-28K is totally in range!

It's takes 5 seconds to disconnect the fake engine noise generator in the RS. Best mod I ever did to my RS!

Anyone know the difference between 2016 vs 2017 rs?
Did Ford fix the head gasket issue from factory on the 2018 models, or does every RS ever made have to get the gasket fixed? Also, I watched your video comparing the RS and STi and you still chose the RS. The owner of this car decided the STi apparently for some reason. I tend to like the STi more, but never driven either. Also, I see the Civic Type R really making strides on both these cars, despite a fairly ugly design and FWD. But Honda quality and overall package is nice and I know Subarus are always at the top of reliability and Consumer Reports testing.

I know this is a 2 year old video but I'm just curious about the reliability of this car. I know about the headgasket ordeal, but are they just generally unreliable or good cars once you get the correct headgasket? I'm looking at getting one but my older brother is trying to talk me out of it. He says he always hears about people having issues with them when he goes to trackdays. There must be a reason why that owner traded it for a 2019 sti.. are they all lemons? My plan would be to keep the engine stock and run it in D Street for autocross. OR perhaps I'll wait for the all new 2022 sti...

Raiti's Rides the biggest concern is the powertrain Nd hopefully it doesn’t have no hybrids system I would say if they can make it to make 330-340 HP everyone gonna b happy nd bring us back that rumble form early 2000s
The 2019 STi’s have the same engine from the type RA....revised third gear and more power. Google for the type ra dyno’s....the improvements they made to the engine offer far more than the stated +5hp. It’s more power over the entire rev range really and we are talking about 10...15...20whp and up to over 30ft lbs of torque to the wheels. I’d say it’s a considerable upgrade over the standard 2018 STi’s....
First lesson for a car dealer, never let fuel light on.
What a weird trade to make. I hope he walked away with money in his pocket, the RS is worth way more in my area. Not to mention, there aren't going to be any more...this will be a keeper.

The previous owner definitely took a big loss on the car & must of not liked something about it. We hear mixed reviews on the RS, especially as a daily driver. The STI is likely the better & more comfortable daily.
PokerRun388 I think for many a lot of it has to do with the seats. For some they are just to tight and the fixed angle is weird.
The first one we sold was Frozen White....... if I could afford it I would definitely go grab it.....
Nitrous Blue is my first choice but that Frozen White is my close second

@@RaitisRides I was so close to getting my 2017 RS in frozen white, test drove a fully loaded RS2 and it really popped with those black wheels!! But the dealer had a Stealth Grey RS2 hiding in the back that they had just got in and I had to have it 😍😍 But I do love the Frozen White as well as the Nitrous Blue. Awesome video Joe. Ford dealer in my country says that there will be no more focus RS and this is the last model! Although you say in video that there will be at 2020 new RS! Is it true?
What country are you located in? Here in the USA we will not get it but there are other countries that will get the next generation.

Are the focus rs reliable? I heard a lot of mixed opinions
Buy it stock and make sure the head gasket is replaced properly.
Benjamin Sides they’re fine.. make sure the head gasket was done, and most places will even give a warranty.. I recently bought a 2017 with 19k miles and they gave me a 75k mile, 6 year all inclusive warranty starting at my ownership
You can take a gamble but who knows what type of abuse a previous owner put on it. Finding a new one is probably hard.
New is pretty much impossible!
