    I am American and this story has always intrigued me. Such a beautiful family. The children certainly didn't deserve this. None of them did. They could have just exiled them, what an unspeakable act.

    While Nicholas was by no means the ideal ruler, he was far from being a Caligula. He cared deeply about Russia, and the problems he had to face (social changes, a belligerant Germany) would have taxed the abilities of any ruler.

      The King of England was asked if he would accept the Russian Royal Family in England. There was a choice to exile the Czar and his family to England but the English king refused. Needless to say that he and the Czar were first cousins and looked like identical twins. The Bolsheviks came in and made peace with Germany giving them vast areas of western Russia and the Ukraine. After the Germans lost the war the Bolsheviks had to fight a brutal civil war with the anti-communists for four years . The rest is history.

Don't assume just because you think all the pieces fall into place to paint a vivid picture of closure that the accounts are true. This does show some spiritual discipline for sure. I cannot argue about the criteria for canonization, as I don't fully understand it anyway. What makes a Saint??

    So why should a Scottish piper be playing?
    Because many Scots, rather than submit to English rule after the union of 1707, gravitated to Russia...... to work in the naval dockyards at Kronstadt, to help modernise the Russian navy and army.
    As well as there being a 'wild west' there was also a 'wild east' and Scots are attracted to such places.

    • @puddylump41
      @puddylump41 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe because Alexandra was Queen Victoria's granddaughter?

    • @puddylump41
      @puddylump41 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      + Alexander Jones Hmm not really, the Russian royal family was related to Queen Victoria, who was by blood, more German than anything else, being from the Hanoverian line. Ok, So Victoria maybe had a weee teeny smigin of Stuart blood in her, going from like waaaay back from some very distant past relations, but certainly not enough to make the Russian royal family anywhere near Scottish. I think the bagpipes at the funeral had more to do with Tsar Nicholas's connection with the Scottish army, and the fact that he had a healthy respect for Scotland and vice versa. Most educated Russians had a fascination with Scottish culture. Nicholas himself was Colonel-In-Chief of the Royal Scots Greys regiment. And as for the 1707 union act being a.....ahem... 'mutual' agreement. Well i can state, as would most Scots, that there was nothing mutual about it, it was an agreement which was forced on us, not one that was actually chosen by the people. The only people in my country who chose the union were a few of the Scottish nobles, who were bribed by the English government with the promise of lots of money and more land if they signed the agreement, it therefore was in their own greedy interests to side with the English crown. For the common families and the indigenous clans of Scotland, the union spelt disaster, and an end to their entire way of life. And if you read anything about 18th century history, and the 'ethnic cleansing' and genocide (and it 100% was that) by the British government of those they considered 'troublesome', (i.e Scots who would not give up any part of their identity, such as their language, customs, etc) you will soon realise that they basically wanted 'rid' (and by that i do mean killed) of anyone who would not submit, so you couldn't be more wrong there i'm afraid. And not just in Scotland, it happened in many other places too, unfortunately during that era, there was plenty of being forced to submit to English rule in the countries that became colonised by the British.

    • @puddylump41
      @puddylump41 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      + Gregor Mcgregor Interesting! And yeah, that would make sense right enough! And indeed we Scots are as you say, attracted to places which are wild and untamed, because we are by nature that way ourselves. x

I'm not a Russian, but it's a relief to see them finally getting laid to rest properly and respect, yet sad it has been this late because of the country's hatred towards the Romanovs and their imperialist, autocratic system. While lessons need to be learned from their and the country's mistakes, but at least let them all rest in peace. This is a nice sendoff to them, one they deserve. I'm glad Russia (finally) did this for them.

When he was a Communist Party Boss in Sverdlovsk( Yekaterinberg), he had the Ipatiev House, where the executions took place torn down 20 years earlier so that it wouldn't become a shrine to lost monarchy. A cathedral now stands on that site.

    No, Anastasia didn't survive. She and another one of her siblings were buried in a different pit, not too far from the rest of her family. However, according to investigations, some of the bullet didn't penetrate enough because of the corsets they wore during that time. It was also believed it was lined with diamonds and etc. So, after the people that shot them were about to drag them out of the place they were shot at, one of the princesses woke up and they had to "kill" her all over again. I hope they find happiness in Heaven and rest in peace.
