    Safely rest my chosen lover
    Sleep and be content awhile.
    Come.
    My picture, my picture will I give you.
    See how tender, how tender is my smile.
    Now my picture will I give you.
    See how tender, how tender is my smile.
    how tender, how tender...
    how tender is my smile.
    Safely rest my chosen lover
    Sleep and be content awhile.
    Safely rest, sleep and be content awhile.
    Oh, happy fancies are in you.
    Oh, happy fancies are in you.
    Bring dreams to set your heart on fire.
    Bring dreams to set your heart on fire
    And burn you with a fierce desire.
    then wake and find your dreams come true
    then wake and find,
    then wake and find your dreams come true
    then wake and find your dreams come true
    Safely slumber...
    Safely rest my chosen lover
    Sleep and be content awhile
    Now my picture will I give you.
    See how tender is my smile.
    ahhh... ahhh...
    See how tender is my smile.
    ahhh... ahhh...
    See how tender is my smile.

      NOT a Grand Duchess, a law passed in the 19th century restricted the titles Grand Duke and Grand Duchess to the grandchildren of REIGNING Tsars. There are NO living G Ds and have not been since the LAST CENTURY.

    Grand Duchess Olga, daughter of Alexander III and sister of Czar Nicholas II, was a REAL Grand Duchess. She emigrated to Canada with her husband and children as refugee family, lived a very simple life farming and painting. She had many friends in Toronto area. No grandiose pretensions whatsoever.

      Watched video about Grand Duchess Olga right before this one and both lived very different lives. Olga lived modestly and die in poverty in Canada while Leonida lived in abundance and had this majestic funeral.
      The only explanation is that one family was far more visionary and were able to moved great part of the family fortune outside Russia BEFORE the collapse of the royal establishment and the other did not.
      Which is ironic to say the least since it looks like Olga was absolutely the Grand Duchess by birth right.
      But the real irony lies in the fact that after being born within the richest and most powerful empire ultimate she die forgetten and in poverty.
      Life has many turns , don't take anything for granted!

    Actually she wasn’t a grand duchess, in any case a princess, as the grand dukes titles were reduced to the grandchildren of the Tsar. Her husband was son of a grandchild of the Tsar Alexander II.

      Porque los Romanov como muchas casas reales de Europa ,Asia y Medio Oriente existen desde siglo y siglos fueron las fundadoras de los territorios que ahora son Paises ,en el caso de Rusia sin los Romanov no existiria fueron ellos los fundaron el imperio Ruso ,no los comunistas.
      Los comunistas mataron a una parte de Los Romanov los demas tuvieron que dejar su amada Rusia obligados y otros huyendo para salvar su vida .

      @VendPrekmurec 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Why? Old Russian (Slavic) tradition actually never knew such "laws" as you imagine them.. Kniaz was elected by the people and nobody else. Romanovs are self proclaimed "rulers" over Russia, so are self proclaimed Rotschields or "Red Shilt" which means "Rulers(Shilt in Hebrew) over Russia"... And Romanov means "Roman", they aren't of Russian or any Slavic origin. They did not do anything good since the Riurikov dynasty. And yes, if we would respect the old slavic laws (in my country it was called Rota), then Putin should be elected as kniaz. "Imperators" were generally tyrrants, foreigners that have had NO legal support from the people.

    She was no Grand Duchess. her daughter is an even bigger joke. Prince Nicholas Romanov was the only legitimate heir to Imperial Russia. he died a few years ago, his brother is still alive and lives in Copenhagen. Leonida is indeed a decendant of the long abolished Georgian Kingdom, which was abolished about 200 years ago. She and the the daughter is not recognized by any royal house in Europe. her husband was at most a Prince(Vladimir) His father Kiril joined the the revolutionaries in 1917, untill he escaped to Finland. he married a divorced woman, so did his son(Vladimir) Leaonida, herself divorced, thus making all of them disqualified as heirs. If they were legittimate they would have attended the re-burial of the czar mother, when her coffin was transferred from Copenhagen to Russia a few years ago, an arrangement made by the Queen of Denmark and Putin. Prince Nicolas as the legitimate heir was in charge, as all press photos show. Leonidas fat daughter was indeed in St. Petersburg at the re-burial, but, in the last row, behind the various European Royalties attending. This daughter married and divorces a Prussian prince.

    Yes,I understand that Russia is a Republic & I know what the term 'Pretender' means,but my question is why the Grand Duke personally was considered to be the Pretender.Was it his lineage which was in doubt or was there some other reason? This is what I meant.

  • @MauriceRivers415
    @MauriceRivers415 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    A pretender is one who maintains a claim that he is entitled to a position of honour or rank, which may be occupied by an incumbent (usually more recognised), or whose powers may currently be exercised by another person or authority. Most often, it refers to a former monarch, or descendant thereof, whose throne is occupied or claimed by a rival or has been abolished.

    She is a Princess of Russia, née Princess Bagration Mukhransky not a Russian Grand Duchess, her marriage according with the Fundamental Laws of the Russian Imperial family for wedding was morganatic and not from equal status. The Bagrations weren't considered "Royals" by the Romanov dynasty, an example was Princess Tatyana Konstantinovna of Russia, daughter of Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich of Russia and Grand Duchess Elizaveta Makrevievna née Sachsen Altenburg, who married Prince Konstantin Bagration, Princess Tatyana was forced to give up her rights to the Russian throne by Nicholas II. Second Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich wedding with Ducky Victoria Melita of Saxe Coburg was unlawful under the Russian Orthodox Church both were first cousins and she was a divorcée from Ernest Ludwig Grand Duke of Hesse Darmstadt und bei Rhein, the only brother of Empress Alexandra, Grand Duchess Elizaveta Feodorovna, Princess Irene of Prussia, and Victoria Marchioness of Milford Haven. Kirill betrayed the Tsar joining the Revolution with the Red Flag.

    • @RoyalSnowbird
      @RoyalSnowbird 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your statements are not quite correct. Women who married into the Bragation bloodline were not asked to give up their rights to the throne of Russia because this dynasty was not considered 'royal' but rather so that it did not create a cadet branch to later contest the throne of Russia from outside of Russia - there is a big difference here. However, morganatic marriages did not provide 'equal status' under Russian Imperial Law and so women who married Grand Dukes could not become a Grand Duchess if their marriages were not approved by the Tsar or recognized by the Russian Orthodox Church ...which indeed happened in several situations. Also, this video states that the Bragation is the oldest Christian royal family of Europe - this is not true... - it is the Rurikovychy Dynasty of Kievan-Rus' which is the oldest Christian dynasty of which members are still living today (but no longer in power) - big difference here as well. Aside this, the Romanov were not of true 'royal blood' themselves if you study their history properly... - however, when one is in power and you become an Imperial House you can basically order anything you want as to whom is 'royal' and can hold title in your court... The past dynasties of Tsars married women to 'legitimize' their lines and garner for their descendants via this a 'royal' descent. Such was the case when a Princess of Byzantine stock married into the Russian imperial house and it was thus no 'accident' that the Byzantine bi-cephalic eagle came to be incorporated into the arms of Imperial Russia (she also had Rurikovychy Dynasty ancestry if I am not mistaken as well ...which was highly sought after to 'legitimize' the throne of Moscow. . .). The 'rules' in terms of marriages with other noble and royal lines imposed on women then were basically discriminatory and meant to exert 'control' in a patriarchal system when you think of it because such rules were ridiculous considering their own roots... - it is almost laughable. . .

      Remember, a "dynasty" is a particular ruling family, like the Windsors, Stuarts, Tudors, etc. in England/Britain, not simply having a line of monarchs. The current Danish dynasty has only ruled since the 1800s. The Danish monarchy has only existed a little over 1200 years. The Japanese monarchy goes back to 660 B.C., and has been one continuous family.

    Vladimir married Princess Leonida Georgievna Bagration-Moukhransky on August 13th, 1948 in Lausanne. Pre-revolutionary Romanov house law dictated that only those born of an "equal marriage" between a Romanov dynasty and a member of a "ruling or royal family" were included in the Imperial line of succession to the Russian throne: children of morganatic marriages were ineligible to inherit the throne or dynastic status. The family to which Princess Leonida belonged, the Bagrationi dynasty, had been kings in Georgia from the medieval era until the early 19th century, but no male line ancestor of hers had reigned as a king in Georgia since 1505. Her branch of the Bagrations, the House of Mukhrani, had been naturalised among the non-ruling nobility of Russia after Georgia was annexed to the Russian empire in 1801. Yet the royal status of the House of Bagration had been recognized by Russia in the 1783 Treaty of Georgievsk, and was confirmed by Vladimir Kirillovich on December 5th, 1946 as claimed head of the Russian imperial house. Some controversy therefore arises as to whether Vladimir's marriage to Leonida was equal or morganatic, and whether his claim to the Imperial throne validly passed to his daughter Maria, to some other dynasty, or to no one upon his death.

      Maurice Rivers As I remember, when Vladimir married, Nicholas had already abdicated for himself and Alexei. Next star would have been Michael (Nicholas' brother), but I think he had renounced also. The throne should have then passed to Vladimir's family.

    According to the Law its Kiril that is The right pretender to the throne since he is the 4th in succession. At the death of kiril it was passed to Vladimir.

    Forgive my ignorence,but why was the Grand Duke considered to be the 'pretender' to the Russian Imperial Throne?

    • @MauriceRivers415
      @MauriceRivers415 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A pretender is one who maintains a claim that he is entitled to a position of honour or rank, which may be occupied by an incumbent (usually more recognized), or whose powers may currently be exercised by another person or authority. Most often, it refers to a former monarch, or descendant thereof, whose throne is occupied or claimed by a rival or has been abolished.

      Power hungry and status-seeking rival relatives have claimed to be the rightful head of the Romanovs, and rightful czar should the monarchy be restored. Many of the claims are pretty shaky. Her husband Vladimir, by everything I've read, had a pretty legitimate claim to be the rightful heir. Their daughter, on the other hand, has a much less solid claim, being female and also not being considered the product of a dynastic marriage.

    Grand Duchess Leonida Georgievna of Russia, who has died aged 95, was the last surviving member of the Romanov family to have been born before the Russian Revolution; as widow of Grand Duke Vladimir Kirillovich, Tsarist pretender to the throne of Russia, she styled herself Her Imperial Highness.
    "Her own ancestry was impeccable. She was born at Tiflis (now Tbilisi) on October 6 (Old Style September 23) 1914, as Princess Leonida Bagration, daughter of Prince George Bagration-Mukhransky and his wife Elena Zlotnicka (descendant of the Counts Zlotnicki-Nowino), and as such was descended from a family which had ruled over the Kingdom of Georgia for three centuries. In 1801, however, Tsar Paul had annexed Georgia into the Russian Empire, following which the Bagrations became a leading family of the Russian nobility, serving in the Tsar’s army and at court in St Petersburg."

    Because Russia is republic now, so the monarch is not legitimate under the constitution of Russia. The pretender means that the Grand Duke claimed to be the succession to the Romanov throne, but the claim doesn't admitted by the Russian government.

    • @DavBlc7
      @DavBlc7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Russia is republic yet I see many symbols of two headed eagles were of the royal crest before the revolution. The flags too so why Russian government put up royal crest and flag?

    • @RoyalSnowbird
      @RoyalSnowbird 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DavBlc7 Actually, Russia is technically using the bi-cephalic eagle illegally as a national emblem. The royal arms of Imperial Russia were protected under international laws as are the arms of nobles and royals of today as a form of their personal and national (if they are monarchs) identity as well. The bi-cephalic eagle entered into the emblematic arms of Imperial Russia when a Princess of Byzantine ancestry (whom if I recall well was also a descendant of the Rurikovychy Dynasty) to 'legitimize' the Russian imperial lines and thus entered into the Russian Imperial family by marriage and her armorials became 'incorporated' into the Russian arms. The state of Russia usurped these emblems and took them as their own without the consent of any royals and as a revolutionary state which killed the Russian Imperial family it is quite the audacity to do so. . . - basically, it is fundamentally illegal. What is also ridiculous today is that Vladimir Putin portrays himself as a 'Tsar' and is completely delusional !

      +HBB Grand Duke Vladimir Kyrillovitch.
      His father was Kyril Nicolaevitch.
      (His legitimacy has been questioned because Kyril and his wife, Melita of Edinburgh, were first cousins. And she, too, was divorced, from Ernst Ludwig of Hesse-Darmstadt.)
