  • For the first time, a video production tells the story of the life of Tsarevich Alexis Romanov, which was brutally cut short very early, leaving behind a legacy of love and forgiveness. The story is narrated by five-time Emmy award-winning actor Jonathan Jackson, who also gives his personal testimony of love for the Romanov family at the end of the video.
Alexis was killed together with his entire family and four of their retainers. According to the accounts of the murderers, Alexis was the last one to die. He was 14 years old. Little Alexis was the first male child born heir to the throne during the reign of his father from the seventeenth century onward. The little boy suffered from hemophilia. The most terrible episodes for Alexis’ health happened when he was injured in the joints, which caused unbearable pain. When Alexis was well, however, the whole life of the palace was transformed. Everything seemed bathed in sweet light.
This a remarkable production featuring an abundance of black and white archival photos and astounding new colorizations by Olga Shirnina. Furthermore, the video includes all the newsreel footage with Tsarevich Alexis in the highest quality.
    ---------------- - ---------------- - ----------------
This video is produced as part of the project for the book "The Romanov Royal Martyrs”, which is an impressive 512-page book, featuring nearly 200 black & white photographs, and a 56-page photo insert of more than 80 high-quality images, colorized by the acclaimed Russian artist Olga Shirnina (Klimbim) and appearing here in print for the first time.

Profoundly moved by this video commemorating the life of Tsarevich Alexi who suffered greatly during his short life. I have been transfixed by Nicholas and Alexandra from age 17 when gifted with Robert Massie’s book, “Nicholas and Alexandra” by my parents. I have since read as much as I can about them and agree with Jonathan Jackson that everyone should read the letters of Nicholas and Alexandra. Perhaps the young, seasoned by pain and wise Alexi intuitively sensed what was in store for him and his family during their time in Ekaterinburg. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least for a variety of reasons: the Russian sense of foreboding, superstition, mystery, and so on. We honor the Romanov Martyrs’ memories each time we view a video or read another book about them. May the Family Romanov Forever Rest In Peace and Rise in Glory. Thank you for an absolutely brilliant video that moves me to tears.

@@mikeappleget482 thanks for your comment here. There are many documented incidents which speak and prove that Tsar Nicholas II was against the pogroms. We share here two of them.
The Kishinev newspaper “Bessarabets”, which published anti-Semitic materials, received funds from Viacheslav Plehve, Minister of the Interior. These publications served to fuel the Kishinev pogrom of 1903. The government of Nicholas II formally condemned the rioting and dismissed the regional governor, with the perpetrators arrested and punished by the court. Leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church also condemned anti-Semitic pogroms. Appeals to the faithful condemning the pogroms were read publicly in all churches of Russia.
After the murder of Prime Minister Stolypin in Kiev (1911), Vladimir Kokovtsov, who succeeded Stolypin, sent an open telegram to all governors of the region demanding that they use every possible means, force if necessary, to prevent possible pogroms. When he submitted this telegram to the Tsar, he expressed his approval of it and of the measures taken in Kiev.

yes, indeed evil. To be more specific, Lenin and his gang of Bolshevik thugs.......the Bolsheviks were on a mission to kill anyone that could treahten their leader Lenin and his cronies. Hence why they slaughtered the Romanovs, because they saw them as political opponents to Lenin's regime. Those are the facts....Lenin and his gang of Bolshevik thugs were commie rats. They used terror and cruelty in order to take power, and they continued to terrorize the Russian people after they'd secured their power in Russia. R.I.P...Romanov family, they deserved to live long happy lives together. Maybe they are living happily in heaven right now, i hope so...i hope heaven exists because if it does then, i know the Romanov family will be there smiling and laughing like they used to do when they were here on earth.🖤

When I began the process of my conversion to Orthodoxy in 2013 (I was, at that time, a Baptist Christian), I had the distinct impression, very strong and very encouraging, of the Romanov Martrys' participation in this process. I kept an Icon of them on my desk, even before I knew of the proper veneration of Icons. I thank you for your participation in this video, and the artistry that you have brought to it. Simply beautiful! I just sat here to enjoy learning more about this little boy, who lost his life not only to death but to his disease as well. This boy here is the picture of the entire family's love, patriotism and faith. And no words can describe how much I love him and I wish him to be at peace in heave, watching out for us! And as Jonathan spoke about his love for the Royal Martys, I just felt that we were the same person, because we share the same views, thoughts and feelings about them. The way he spoke about how he felt their grace the more he read about them, is the same as I feel everytime I read, watch and listen something about the Romanovs.
This family shoud be the role model to any family out there! And, as Jonathan said, more and more people should learn about them more, not the superficial stuff, especially what it was not true, only for the sake of prejudice. Open your heart and you will feel their grace as well!

It was nice to see the love that existed between him and all the family members. I really enjoyed seeing how mature Alexis had grown. I feel like he would have been a very wise and compassionate ruler. I wanted to cry by the end of the video. Alexi's friend had said something about his Alexi and why couldn't they have spared him. Surely there was enough room in Russia for one more person! That really got to me! Also the actor Mr. Spencer explained about how much the Royal Family meant to him and his family. I felt touched by the love and depth of emotion in which he spoke about them:) I'm not Orthodox, but I prayer for the Royal Family, and for them that there at peace in heaven 🙏 together.

Norine...that would have never happened...the revolution was a long time coming. In the middle of a war, when things are chaotic was a simple thing for the Swiss to bring in Lenin incognito! There weren't that many people in the side of the royals, and even a healthy prince is a threat to the goal of the revolutionaries. The latter wouldn't have taken a chance of a surviving heir ruining their plans of "saving" the country for the peasant class.

Russia was struggling with its identity and had little hope for a positive future. It needed a Leader who would liquidate it’s treasures and invest them in it’s people.

Thank you very much for this beautiful video of Alexis and his life. I was impressed by the fact that he was born on a Friday, the day of Christ's Crucifixion. It seems to me as a sign for his martyrdom. He bore his illness with so much patience. My father also was a hemophiliac. He had a rather mild form of this illness but I do know something of the terrible pains Alexis must have suffered after bleeding in the joints as my father had also these bleedings. My father, luckily, lived until the age of 88 as we now have the clotting Factor hemophiliacs need. But this is a reason why I feel so close to this family. They are now with Christ and pray for us.

Some documentaries have claimed that Queen Vic was so horrible to her own prince Leopold - blaming him for getting cut and bleeding so easily, then, not believing at first that it could be possible that her “blue blood” is the very thing that caused Leopold (and Alexei) to bleed easily. I never realized what blue bloods actually referred to - it refers to nobles/royals/etc who intermixed in such a small gene pool that they’d pass this kind of thing down. Hemophilia. I’m so sickened by knowing that that’s what it refers to. I know the queen is just a product of her insane upbringing but she was a cruel woman to these kids.

Out of all the Romanovs, Alexei is definitely the most tragic one, not just cuz he was the youngest one, but because he didn't let his hemophilia get in the way of him having fun and helping out. In a way, it kinda reminds me of myself; I have a bunch of vitamin deficiencies, and I'm prone to headaches, but I try to hide them so I can get schoolwork and fun things done

Thank you for this beautiful tribute to the Romanovs, and to to the Czarevich Alexei. He had the potential to be a great leader. He had the great role model from his father. Czar Nicholas II took him everywhere, clearly teaching him. He had the loving support from his Mother, and from his loving sisters, doctors, tutors, soldiers, and friends. He was raised with strong Orthodox Christian faith. I’m not Christian, but I see compassion & goodness in his family & upbringing. I hope to see Maria & Alexei be United with their family in the Russian Imperial burial site in the Peter and Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg soon.

positivelybeautiful1: It was Alexei and Anastasia whose bodies were separated from the rest of the victims in an attempt to dispose of them quickly; the murderers likely thought that it was Alexandra but in reality, Anastasia. In late teens the vertebrae in the spine close. The three eldest daughters were 24, 21 and 19 and the skeletons in the pit had their vertebrae closed. Physical proof that it was Anastasia along with Alexei whose remains were found in 2007.

Poor Nicholas was totally unprepared for his birth right once it was abruptly thrust upon him, but it sure looks like he wasn't making the same mistake with his own heir. And I agree with something another person commented on, Alexis would have been a stellar Czar if he'd only got the chance. Kindness can't be taught to someone - you're born with it or your not, but Alexis had it in spades. What happened to that family was evil.

But since Alexis had hemophilia, he wouldn't have lived a long life. The treatment for the disease was almost non existent at that time. Most boys died in their 20's from it. It was only in the 1950's and 1960's that treatments were found that prolonged boy's lives.

I bought the book "The Romanov Royal Martyrs”, it is truly a remarkable book, I so very enjoyed reading it. My own family was Russian nobilities, they flew Russia to Finland, Poland, Germany, France, and the USA, where some of them moved into Canada. Where I live now. Before Covid-19 we had the chance to visit Russia, where we saw our family's house in Moscow, and St-Petersburg, we were not allowed to go to the lands or houses they used to own outside those 2 cities. We were told our guides provided by Russia weren't able to do so. My brother and I understood that we couldn't due to some sort of unwillingness of the Russian Gov. We indeed were allowed in those 2 houses in either town, well houses is a rather odd term when those houses need well over many and I do mean many employees to kept those places running. What saddens me is the horrible death the Imperial Family endured, when you see and know how these people are far from what was told after they were murdered.
This sweet Tsarevich Alexie Romanov was killed is horrible to just phantom and think about it.
I still wondered what if the medicine we have today that help hemophiliac live a longer life would have been available in his lifetime, would have changed worldwide history, and made him Tzar of Russia still he was young at the end of it, but his uncle Mickael Romanov could have held the regency and had Alexis become Emperor of Russia. This sweet wonderful boy would have held a much more open Russia. For those who wondered why was he so tall at his young age, you must remember his grandfather was very tall indeed Emperor Alexander the III was a tall man (he was 2 meters tall, okay for those weird US guys 6 feet and 8 inches tall) so yes he was tall for his age, but DNA does follow in odd ways.
This video made me shed tears, just remembering what my great-grandfather told me of the Imperial Russian Families. They are so not what they made us believe it was. I am happy they are now Royal Martyrs because they were not the horrible people past Russian Gov and the like were telling about them.

Beautifully told! What a brilliant unique look into Alexei's life. I especially loved the rarer candid videos of him being a naughty kid. I especially appreciate not lingering on their dreadful murders as the sheer horror simply destroys my soul. IF ONLY Tsar Nicholas had taken King George's suggestion to seek refuge in the U.K. How history might have played-out so differently. It's really uncanny how much Alexi and his Father look like proper Windsor's! Such a heartbreaking story, but what a beautiful life that boy led when he wasn't suffering in pain or fear in the end at the hands of the Bolsheviks. Thank you!

Our book brings to light a multitude of unknown and unrevealed facts, which evince that many truths remain silenced or distorted to this day.
