    In this video we take a quick first look at the PSA KS47 rifle. This rifle is an AK/AR hybrid that fires the 7.62x39mm cartridge and feeds from standard AK-47 style magazines. You guys have seen other AK/AR hybrid rifles on the channel in the past, and the KS47 is a definite contender in the "not an AR" & "not an AK" market.

    I have a 7.62x39 ar that takes the proprietary mags. I recently tried it at long range, its surprisingly easy to get on target with. I went out to 550 yards, it was awesome. I really want the ks47 now though.

    I personally love palmettos stuff. They make a good product at a great price and it's made of good materials (7075 T6 Forgings). Is it a match rifle? no. But for the average guy, they're great. I've been looking to get into AKs but this is really tempting now as it uses AR parts.
    edit: 12/19/16 I got one today for $439

    I've had a PSA "AR47" upper for about 6 months now. It originally came with an unmarked BCG/ bolt that ran 100% but after less than 1000 rounds of supersonic Red Army Elite (brass, I'm a reloader) two gas rings had sheared off and some pretty gnarly corrosion/ wear was occurring inside the carrier. A lot of these rounds were run suppressed through my Liberty Cosmic while still in jail @ my SOT. PSA was quick to RMA my problematic parts and sent replacements out the SAME DAY they received my defective unit, which was pretty cool. The parts that were sent as replacements are marked "KS47/ Hybrid". Yet to test new parts with one of my cans, but has been 100% while loud! Thanks for the video guys, great content; as always!

    The weakness of this gun: The charging handle. Not having a bolt release or an AK-style charging handle is a problem. You can see this when Chad reloads around 18:00 mark. AR changing handles are just aluminum rectangles that get bent easily and should be handled as little as possible. I was very impressed with the KS47 until I saw this on the video. If the charging handle takes a sh*t or gets bent, your rifle is useless. And in an AR platform, with the crud in the upper, you have to use the forward assist a lot more if you rack the charging handle. The bolt release gives you a mechanical advantage and pushes the round into the chamber with more force. It's probably still a good gun, but I hope palmetto fixes this serious issue.

    I love PSA, but I am wary of these 7.62x39 ARs after the extractor broke on my Rock River LAR-47 after only 1200 rounds. Rock River called it "normal wear", so I traded it in for the CMMG Mutant. I don't think that the milled out AR15 bolt faces and extractors will hold up to the steel cased 7.62x39 very long. WRT Magpul mags in these type rifles, I had to relieve a few thousandth off the ends of the feed lips to remedy the interference with the bottom of the bolt carrier. After that they worked fine in the LAR-47. No issues using the Magpul mags with the Mutant

    I have 3 ar15 chambered in 7.62x39. I love them. I use the standard lower with c products mag. I would like a lower that takes the ak mags though. I built mine with stainless barrel, free float handguard, stag parts kit, minimalist stock, spikes lower. I have $550 into each. Could have done $500 each, but nobody had Anderson lowers at time. If you reload, check out Colorado once fired brass. Can buy brass cases quite reasonably. Berrys has plated bullets also. Super reliable so far. About 1000 rounds through, i had marginal luck with asc mags to start.

    All the reviews I have seen on this rifle they have been using pmags. Even though he says they have used other mags he still runs the review with pmags. The KS47 is a picky monster and does not like a lot of the metal mags out there. It was designed to take pmags because the aluminum lower gets worn down by the steel mags, that’s why they run best with the pmag.

  • @RIPPER334

    Right now at PSA... gen 2 KS-47s are 699 for carbine, 599 for the "pistol" with KAK shockwave...
    Price must have really dropped since they hit the market.

    I think the military should switch to 7.62X39mm. A gun like this would be cool so they can keep using the same modular platform with the extra ass kicking the 7.62 provides.

    • @kevinreicks6251
      @kevinreicks6251 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They maintain their energy at longer distances, but they also they also lose some accuracy. Not a veteran, but the couple I have talked to would rather have one of the 6.5mm variants for both more kick and good accuracy. Just thought I would throw it out for discussion.

    • @gordonlawrence3537
      @gordonlawrence3537 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 7.62 was dropped as it was too heavy and it was recognised that you needed to carry way more rounds. The UK came up with a 4.85mm similar in proportions to the 6.5mm so damn good ballistics. NATO went for the inferior 5.56. Personally I would have thought Kevin Reicks was right and that 6.5mm would be a better compromise.

    • @michaeldimodica623
      @michaeldimodica623 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its not like the military is hurting for a round with more impact but I can see your arguement. You hear all the stories of guys in Mogadishu and iraq taking 3, 4 sometimes even 6 rounds from a 5.56 to go down which is nuts. But a lot can be said about shot placement. 7.62 doesnt offer much practicality in weight or long range accuracy but yeah its a decent pill chugging downrange. Personally I think the 458 socom would be a fair replacement to the 5.56. Afterthe videos ive seen comparing the 2, the videos eric and chad have put up on the 458 it has the penetrating capabilities and the power you would want from your bullets but would also cut down on the weight... there is a big drawback to the 458 tho in that a standard ar magazine can only single stack 10 rounds as opposed to 30 556 rounds. Soooo that can certainly be a dealbreaker. But practical solutions to that problem can be found so who knows. Hell at this point a 300 blackout would be better than the 556 id suggest the 9x39 if it didnt suck past 100yards

      Now the grendel is a sweet ass round.

    • @tackytrooper
      @tackytrooper 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Dimodica it's not just about shot placement it's about bullet construction. M855 is the worst round to ever happen to the 5.56 caliber in terms of terminal effect on soft targets, and it just so happens to be what those guys in Mogadishu and Iraq were primarily issued (the military doesn't always make the best decisions.)
      Mk262 is a modern round for 5.56 that actually gets the job done, even at lower velocities. It's not as simple as "7.62 make big hole, 7.62 better!" anymore.

    Since it's not "beefed up" like the mutant, it makes me question the long term reliability.
    Still, very cool gun and very cool video.

    • @GriffXJ
      @GriffXJ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mickey Dicklips The bolt used is the same size as an AR15 pattern rifle, if I remember correctly. Because the 7.62 has a much larger case head, the wall of the bolt is slimmed down and the chance to break a lug off is much higher. Beefed up Mutant will be closer in reliability to an AK (even though technically the AR is more reliable with dirt and mud, check out forgotten weapons/in range if you don't believe me, they did a mud test)

      If I owned one (the KS47) I'd probably keep an extra bolt, or even an extra carrier, just like I do with my regular AR. Chances are, the average gun owner won't run enough rounds through it to make a difference, but it never hurts to keep a spare!

    • @Iraqveteran8888
      @Iraqveteran8888  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The average gun owner doesn't shoot enough to know when something breaks anyway...you're right. It's not a fault, it's more of a statistical probability. Think about it...people that own black rifles probably own more than one and you can only shoot one at a time

  • @lucasnelson08
    @lucasnelson08 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should slug the bore on that gun and let me know what it measures out at. I was recently surprised to hear that some of the manufacturers are making 7.62x39 barrels with a .308 chamber rather than .310 or .311. it seems that the size difference isn't enough to cause a pressure issue and some people are saying that the .308 bores are more accurate.

    I wanna build one with a wood stock and wood handguard. No tacticool stuff, just a fun gun and also to put some meat on the table. Get an unfinished wood stock if possible, use some black stain and emerald green to make a tiger stripe pattern and soak it in some linseed or other oil, no laquer....it be sexy!

      Those who don't comply with illegal laws had all the NFA firearms they want for years. Only the sheep who are too afraid of exercising their rights are restricted. The best method of resistance in the face of tyranny is to be so absolutely free your very existence is a threat.
      Look at marijuana users, they don't have the consitution or federal law on their side, but because they are criminals they just violate the law and then politicians make up new laws to "legalize them". And yet we actually have the supreme law on our side and we cower in fear. Just look at all the tools on the sig brace like MAC.
