the m14 is a hell of a rilfe. I carried one in the marine corp. for 5 years. they are a little heavy caring them threw the jungle of Viet Nam, but it never failed me in the 5 years I carried it. you don't need a scope on them as the iron sights are accurate as all hell. welcome home Eric, and thank you for serving!
It's basically just an upgraded M1 Garand, which was and still is an incredibly good rifle. Brilliant design. I love the M14/M1A. Only problem with it is weight, of course. It would not be my first choice in a SHTF situation if I needed to be mobile.
@@fakecubed It depends - my Century Arms VSKA is only a touch of a pound lighter than my M1A with the synthetic stock. Granted, the AR's are usually king in this department, but get weighed down with all the extra gear. A Scout Squad, SOCOM, or 18" variant with synthetic stock would be the best of all worlds.
@@fakecubed - A certain amount of weight in a (battle) rifle is your friend, in terms of soaking up recoil and helping you make a good shot without beating your shoulder into hamburger. If you've ever used a CETME or G3, which shoots the same cartridge, you know what is meant by that! The M1A/M14 is in some respects an updated Garand, but it has some new features which really improve the design. In its military guise as the M14, some versions were select-fire. It fed from 20-round magazines instead of using en-bloc clips, and since it wasn't top-eject like an M-1, any optic mounted could be over the bore and not offset as on an M-1. The gas system is patented, and self-adjusting, requiring no manual dialing or adjustment as on an FN FAL, for example. It uses a gas-expansion cutoff system which works wonderfully. And of course, the newer rifle shoots 7.62x52 NATO, which is a short-action cartridge somewhat smaller and lighter than the 30-06, yet plenty powerful for military or other use. However, if the weight is an issue, why not consider one of the newer shorter-barreled designs now being offered by various manufacturers? Bula Defense offers a 20-inch paratrooper version (two inches shorter than the stock 22" tube), and there are also 18 and 16-inch models from Springfield Armory and other makers. The Scout-Squad model which is eighteen inches, seems very light and handy, and still has an eighteen inch tube, which is ample for most uses.
When I was a kid, my dad bought a brand new M1A. The first round he shot out of the barrel was at the Winchester Gun Range (different name now) in Dallas, TX, on their 500 yard range on the far west side of the property (they no longer have a 500 yard range). He put a 1" florescent yellow sticker center chest of his silhouette target. First round was on the yellow sticker, just slightly off center at 500 yards. He only used open sights. It was an M1A Standard (not even sure they called it the Standard back then), and the only option he had was a leather sling, and if you know the gun and its history, you know the leather sling he had. That was the best shot I've ever seen anyone make in my whole life.
this is just an observation... Seems like Chad gets thrown a lot of passive aggressive comments by Eric on the occasion, I've noticed that from different videos, Seems like he handles it well.. he must be a real humble dude
I must admit when I first saw Chad in Erics vids he almost came across like a serial killer in waiting! But I think he has progressed really well and genuinely comes across as a top bloke. I guess it was nerves to start with.
Good job fellas. I appreciate the absolute transparency of the video you made here. Anyone that wants to argue with the usability of the M1A as a mid-range precision platform would have a difficult time given the information you've laid out for them. What a capable and versatile weapon.
12:01 Eric: "It's like we're getting just maybe a little bit of drift with the suppressor, perhaps." Chad: "Eh, I don't know." I don't think it's the suppressor, Eric.
Chad has always been a better shot than Eric. Now obviously, Eric isn't a bad shot at all, but he's a trigger slapper, and you can see him suffer for it occasionally.
Best fucking comment. I learned to shoot and hunt with a .30 carbine. I graduated up to my M1A squad scout all before getting an AR. Old school is way better.
I personal shoot an M14 EBR is it roughly the same. The EBR new about 1.2 MOA but with match ammo and good optic can be sub MOA. I can hold about .93in groups at 100yds with it and can stay within MOA out to 700yds.
+don trump You can see a 45 no problem. When you are looking toward the sun. (not into) the back side of the bullet will be a black shadow cast by the sun. A 45 round is easily seen going down range. it looks like a small black dot.
+Mr. S There can be vapor trails with a bullet, I've only seen it twice and it was with my 22-250 shooting 40 grain v maxs at 4000 fps, There was a white line behind the bullet that lasted for about a second, Looked identical to the white trail left by a fighter jet wing!
+Mr. S Humidity and a bullet spinning at 180k revolutions a min gets extremely hot due to friction from the air. pretty easy to see how it can cause a vapor trail. ever see vapor trails at the tip of fighter jet wings?
The m-14 is my favorite rifle. In basic back in 1966 we had to shoot out to 400 yards with the iron sites. My 68 year old eyes are no longer that good. In Korea we qualified at a range the Japanese built during WW II a neat experience. In Vietnam I had an M-2 Carbine, then an M-16A2 and an M-60. I want to get a M1A1 to complete my collection of rifles I carried in the service. Of course the M-60 is out of the question. Love your channel and look forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.
Good golly I love the M1A rifles. Can't get enough of them. I can't wait tell I've saved up enough to pick one up for myself. Glad you guys brought out that wonderful piece of art to share with all of us.
The M14 was the infantry standard in 1968 and the qualification targets were silhouette type with the longest at 400 meters. Our open sights were set at 275 meters and the front blade covered the entire 400 m target as you had to aim above it to hit it. I loved that rifle but not in full auto. The last week in infantry we familiarized with the M16 which felt like a toy in comparison. Ended up going to Germany and changed from a 11C20 to a 11E20, no more rifles but a 1911 and M3. Still love the M14 / M1A platform.
Great video and great shooting! I'm looking forward to suppressing my M25 as well. I have the same scope with M1 turrets and the TMR reticle and it's been a great combination. TonyBen.
I was so happy to see this video, ive wanted one for a while. Eric needs to do his M1A SOCOM build. Also who can see Eric and Chad in a movie like Red Dawn?
I actually went to the range with my M14 today, It shoots minute of angle, and sometimes I do as well. I'm rolling with a Fulton Armory action in an M14E2 stock with a unitized gas assembly, 22" parkerized Krieger barrel, match piston and guide, a Good Iron brake, and a 4-16x40mm scope. It's a great rifle.
Nice video! FYI: the Blackfeather RS enhances accuracy like the Sage, but without the added bulk & weight... tension bedding and a proprietary adjustable op rod guide that is secured to the chassis. The RS can be configured with a pistol grip and high butt stock adapter, or more traditionally with a Mossberg 500 series shotgun butt stock. I shot my first suppressed M14 back in 2006, and continue to use a Smith Enterprise Wind Talker can today. 'MK14 Mod 0 type SEI - Suppressed - M14EBR.US'
I made one of the SOCOM 16s that your were talking about building. I took the forward scout rail off and replaced it with a solid cover. And I won a 600 yards Bisley style match with it. Still love this rifle.
don't ant to piss anyone off but if I couldn't hit that with a bi pod or a rest watch all the vids and they all act like there doing something out of this world try it with out the rests and show me something
I love my M1A loaded I purchased around 15 + years ago. I would take it to the range and shoot every week ,back when you could get a case of 1000 Portuguese military ammo from Sportsmen Guide for around 150.00. I got pretty good with it loved it so much I bought a Scout & Socom . But my M1A is my favorite.
1 MOA at 300 yards, badass. Nice shooting. Crane M14's at Quantico on the 1000 yard range made me a believer. Cold bore shot on paper with iron sights? Sure, it could have been luck, but I know that I was impressed with my own first cold bore shot.
I just bought one of these a week ago I havnt shot it yet but it's a nice gun to compete with my Scar at the range and the best thing is they both shoot the same ammo

the M1a is hands down my favorite rifle. I can live without an AK and ARs but M1A is king of them all in my eyes.

Always cool to observe the delay from the impact and the sound of the bullet hitting the target.

A wild Rags has appeared!
They did a fine job,... you can plainly see the trace over and over again here as well!
How the hell did I find this...
This video makes me seethe with envy. What a beautiful rifle.
I have to strongly agree
At least when you have the money you could have one. Here in the UK I couldn't have one even if I were a millionaire.
You guys are gonna need it
srspower yes you could. it's not illegal to own a firearm. you surely must know that...?! you need the correct licences etc.
Section 5 is not obtainable in the UK for personal use, it is for commerce almost exclusivly
I need to call SA and get one in myself! Solid shooting!
Haha,... and now I know you made good on this! I have one now too ;-) .

WOLVERINES!!!
Eric hit the nail on the head with his comment @ 14:00 mark.
Great Stuff!!!
Watching that caterpillar crawl on the edge of the table at 6:57 lol
that’s the spotter
Any M14/M1 Garand style rifle will always have a special place in my heart. My personal favorite I'd the Socom 16.
Is* I really hate how you can't edit comments if you make a mistake haha
Love the rifle and looking forward to seeing more from you guys on other M1A setups.
I have a Springfield Armory M1A Scom II. And I love her. She is my DMR.
Oh my gosh, that thing looks amazing.

That is a very tastefully upgraded M1a. You're right to be proud of it Chad. I can't wait to see what it's 'sister gun' turns out like.
this is my favorite "Modern Rifle"
I made one of the SOCOM 16s that your were talking about building. I took the forward scout rail off and replaced it with a solid cover. I have a similar mount as Chad's that has a long eye relief 3x magnifier that flips out of the way of a SIG Romeo 7. This packs the most fun and punch for what it was designed for. LLLLLove it!!!!
that rifle is beautiful I'd love to try some long range deer or elk hunting with it
The best picture-in-picture shooter setup I've seen yet.
Hmm, COMPLETE change on the FRONT end. I WOULDN’T delete my front sight, I like my BUIS’ too much. Love that Leupold though. Eventually I’ll trade out my older Redfield 3-9 X 40 (an earlier traditional Vietnam TYPE set-up) for the same I imagine...after all, it’s worth it. As for the scope MOUNT, I went with the Sadlak ‘Airborne’, STEEL mount.. absolutely fantastic quality & tolerances. Incidentally, mine is ‘just’ the Standard model and UNBELIEVABLY accurate...so I’m happy.
Awesome review guys and happy Veterans Day! Murica!
Eric, I always enjoy your videos, but I just wanted to say a Special, Very Heart Felt THANK YOU for your Service to Our Country. HAPPY VETERANS DAY to You and all of Our Wonderful Men and Women that have Served in Our Armed Forces.
Love it. Bought my M1A a while ago, best rifle there is. If I could only own 1 gun, it would be this guy. Combat-effective semi-auto rifle that can also produce some tasty venison on the side.
I love my M1A's I have a "loaded" model and a Socom II.
I just sold my TRW 1963 made M14. It was spec NM accurized and it shot like a beauty. I won a 600 yard match with it, with an average 1.25 MOA group. I loved to work on the rifle (you need to work on it to keep it accurate), but till this day, I look at the cans of lineseed oil, Shell grease and Devcon epoxy in my barn (my stuff to keep my M14 running), I think back at the days at the range with this rifle.
I like chad, I wish he'd appear in more videos.
right? Half the stuff Eric says is wrong/misinformed and he's such a tool. Chad is much more enjoyable.
Sold mine recently due to circumstances ,goin to miss it bad ,so reliable and accurate
@Iraqveteran8888 that is an exquisite piece of weaponry right there bro. great job in the video.
I'm on number 4 and 5 as a civilian now. My fav is the Scout model for my application...well that and a 19D lol, but everything from Wis/UP/MN whitetail to ND/MT muley's and MT elk, goats, and have single shot harvested a moose w my M1A/M14 fam rifles. Love'em.
lol, it's a designated marksman rifle.. rifle
It's says that in the title dmr is short for designated markmans rifle
+captain nachos gaming He means "DMR Rifle" = Designated Marksman Rifle Rifle.
+xzoombinis65x you can't have enough rifles on your rifle
+TheFireWolfJMV What? 3 max...
that and having a rifled rifle
I loved watching the bullet fly through the air during the 440 yard portion
Great shooting guys! That suppressor just needs to be a bit tighter. Nice work.
Saw the vortex trails from the bullets at 440yrd, wind was definitely curving the trajectory
Best gun in DayZ ever.
I have had mine for 20 years.
It is an excellent piece. It's different than a plug and play AR, with these you have to actually tune them, real gunsmithing. If I bought another I'd probably buy a Fulton Armory dual lug receiver and go from there.
I duracoated my cat using the same technique.
awesome!
Tacticat...
Mmm coated pussy.
I just picked up a M1a Loaded with the Walnut stock, I also bought the Sadlak NM Spring Guide and I am also going to add the Sadlak Ti Nitride Piston. I won't be adding a scope, it will be a iron sights only rifle, and I will complete in some local matches at 600 and 1,00p yard matches once I find the right load and get shim the gas system
I wish someone would make a direct thread suppressor for the unique threads on the M1A. I want one for my super match.
+762x35mm The M21 is just a version of the M1A that Springfield makes, mainly the stock.
+762x35mm Have never found one yet. Never saw them used when I was in service. Some companies have made adapters for their suppressors to fit the M1A but not a direct thread.
Smith Enterprise makes a thread adapter.
I just bought a ruger gunsite scout 5.56 with a vortex 2x scout scope. The m1a is next on my list. In a month or so. Cant wait.
I want a M1A and I got two liver. Choices choices.
Finally, someone with brain. Usually people just agrees with random comments.
+John Doe Nice save bro
+John Doe hey, man, you only need one liver to live at full capaciity, if you got a spare replacement liver lying around, go for it.
+John Doe Trade one for an M1A. It's a fair deal.
John Doe When you realize you only have 1 liver but more than one lobe..

BADASS! I WANT ONE!!!
that's a very good paintjob. very low key.
pure function is what makes it attractive
Ive only just noticed your remind me of Quinn from homeland
reminds me of the Kicker from the show Blue Mountain State.
+ShaDOWDoG667 lol so true I just noticed that
+ShaDOWDoG667 lol so friggin accurate.
holy shit he does. quinn is a badass
I built my M1A NM the same way but it was so heavy so I took the scope off and called it good!
it doesnt come suppressed in overpoch... HACKERZ
lol :D
lol i have 1080 hours on arma 2. gonna get arma 3 soon!!
+Gaming Cat SA has improved .. give it a go bro :D
+L “EL NACIXEM” Singh ok =D
This is the best M1A video I have seen in a long time. Great job guys..
don't ant to piss anyone off but if I couldn't hit that with a bi pod or a rest watch all the vids and they all act like there doing something out of this world try it with out the rests and show me something

scott curtis that's kinda the point of the vid, he gave all the props to the rifle.. any douche could pick it up and hit something.. even you
Eric. Thank you for your service and for the videos. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing that slick rifle with us. Chad would like to see an update on your rifle and also if Eric picked one up as well.
I agree with you, that rifle is an absolute dream to shoot over iron sights.
I love it when you can see the vapor trails at long range shots. So cool. Sweet rifle!
When the video shows what I clicked for in the first frame, it deserves a like.
Awesome M1A. Helluva rifle. Looks like a great build Chad.
Eric stated that the rifle is an "awesome rifle", that's an understatement!!!.
Finally got my m1a standard yesterday from the shop... Damn you 10 day waiting periods. Can't wait to slowly upgrade it to be a bigger beast!
I love hearing the round break the sound barrier
thank you for your service iraqveteran8888 and for those who stood beside you!
Chad snatched Eric's role! But both of them are nice.
As a fellow M1A Loaded owner. 168 Sierra Match Kings are THE round to have for me too
1 MOA at 300 yards, badass.
Def my fav semi-Auto rifle.Used to compete in DCM/CMP w/an S/A SuperMatch.DEADLY accurate @ 600 yds.w/iron peep sights.
Time to get Ray to bed my Garand. He already did the Krieger barrel install. Trigger job is awesome too.
Awesome bullet trace.
The M1A is on my short list of must have rifles. Nice rig!!!
I love it… Been looking at buying this rifle, for sometime now…This video, has been the deciding factor
a m1a dmr build is my dream rifle. cant wait to get one
Just recently I finally added the M1A to my collection of noise makers, now to find some glass that will finish it off.
Long range shots at anything you need too. Damn right.
Happy Veterans Day and thank you Eric and others for protecting our country
I can actually see the bullet trail as it flies damn!!!
You sir have built my dream rifle
Can't wait for that Socom 16 build!! Great video guys!
A lot of your old Nam vets will swear that this is the best rifle ever produced!
Finally, an M1A! That is one beautiful rifle!
Cant wait for a video with this vs Eric's scar 17 dmr at the 600yard range
*I find it crazy that there isn't a better way to suppress this platform. I just bought on not too long ago, and now I have to find an adapter.*
Very nice set up. Quiet too. Thanks for posting this.
