Who else likes surplus guns? I have a Mosin Nagant PU model from 1943, a Yugo M48 built in the 1950's I think, and I just got an M1 Garand from the CMP, it's in the .308 which I think is beneficial because the ammo's cheaper and I don't have to worry about the ammo drying out anytime soon.

Hello from California (send help). I recently picked up a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 (.22LR) for afew of reasons: -Only AR platform rifle that doesn't need the dreaded Bullet Button here. (I think) -.22LR is cheap as balls (generally) -Easy to shoot (the wife LOVES it.) -For California, the gun was cheap ($350) -Great trainer. Just joined the army so yeah be nice to have SOME idea how the gear is going to work. -Other justifications im too lazy to remember :P

Not completely. Most places will let you do a layaway on anything they sell. Also, ive purchased 2 fairly expensive rifles after 2-3 good nights at the casino. It is a lot of money, but they're definitely an investment.

Who else likes surplus guns? I have a Mosin Nagant PU model from 1943, a Yugo M48 built in the 1950's I think, and I just got an M1 Garand from the CMP, it's in the .308 which I think is beneficial because the ammo's cheaper and I don't have to worry about the ammo drying out anytime soon.
Down the road I want to look into an SMLE, an actual Kar98, and an M1903 Springfield. Anyone else have some really cool surplus guns?

Excellent rifle and I'm glad I got it. Once I got it zeroed in I was ringing a gong the size of a sewer lid at 300m every time with iron sights.

If you buy each part individually, yes. If you buy sets of parts, like an upper reciever group, it gets just as expensive if not more so than an "off the shelf" rifle.

Hello from California (send help). I recently picked up a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 (.22LR) for afew of reasons:
-Only AR platform rifle that doesn't need the dreaded Bullet Button here. (I think)
-.22LR is cheap as balls (generally)
-Easy to shoot (the wife LOVES it.)
-For California, the gun was cheap ($350)
-Great trainer. Just joined the army so yeah be nice to have SOME idea how the gear is going to work.
