    Coming back to this very performance every so often. There are so many great jazz musicians nowadays, but not many can reproduce the uniqueness of this particular trio. This was on another level.

    I feel so lucky to have seen Michel quite a few times here in the San Francisco area. I got to meet him after a show at the original Yoshi's one year. He was an absolutely kind and pleasant fellow. When he passed I felt I lost a close friend.

    Heard a concert of this tour in a different venue, a truely magic night. Was so sad hearing later that Michel passed away. Read in an interview, that Steve loved this trio so much. BTW: Steve Gadd incredible soloing with brushes. They are together so much, it's unbelievable. Steve exactly knows, what to do. Wherever Michel goes, Steve is there. ❤🙏

    I was lucky to catch this show at New York's Birdland Jazz Club. It still stands out in my mind as one of the great performances I've had the pleasure of seeing. Sadly, it was during that week or thereabouts that Michel fell ill and was rushed to Beth Israel hospital where he succumbed to a pulmonary infection.

      The first piece: I love the undeniable Bebop influence in his awesome playing. This is as pleasantly hard-driving and unrelenting as they come. No pause for breathing, who needs that?. Love the Gad's brushwork. For the second piece Petrucciani alone could have been sufficient, the continuo of the drums was superfluous, and an acoustic bass would have been a better choice for this ballad. When the third selection begins my mind tricks me into thinking On Green Dolphin Street is about to happen. Petrucciani always deserved more exposure than he got. A beautiful person and a gorgeous jazz stylist.

    • @Cantbuyathrill
      @Cantbuyathrill 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** I never said Jackson played acoustic, but that an acoustic bass would have been a better choice for this ballad.

    • @SmokinKettle
      @SmokinKettle 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He does manage to use the settings to get something close to an acoustic bass sound, though. I've seen vid of him playing a 6 string accoustic bass (quite masterfully, of course); I wonder why he didn't bring it along for this...

    One of Petrucciani's best concerts. Petrucciani was destined to get the utmost best out of life. You can hear that best in the composition that starts here: at 8:35. Here I also admire Steve Gadd, giving him a solid fundament, and sufficient space to make Petrucciani fly at the same time. How I wish I had been there ....

    My comments after the next upload of his say it all. Gadd and Gang probably can not believe he was this talented. He flushed his handicap down the. made the decision to close his eyes and groove. Listen his melodic brilliance as he keeps or outpaces all he plays with. The sheer amount of memory and work both physically and mentally he gives is something most of us could not adequately describe. RIP MICHAEL. you were a very tall strong robust talent
    won’t be another with your heart.

    I was introduced luckily though very much later to Michel Petrucciani through the album of Wayne Shorter in 1983, sixteen years before he perished. Ever since his music has been embedded in my subconscious and has been haunting me for years now, until today when I came into this album you posted here, Canale di inthelawn. Thank you very much for this. Praise God for all His music!
