    Robert, your timing is impeccable! I just bought an S60 with a leaking crank seal. It arrives tonight. The value of your videos to the Volvo community is immeasurable. Thank you.

    I went to set the timing in preparation for a timing belt job and there is no crank pulley retaining nut, its gone.
    No wonder the timing belt was wobbling on the cams. Lucky eh?
    I ordered a new crank nut today, question I have for you is how do you tighten it, how do you lock the crank whilst torquing it down. do you just impact it? loctite?
    I didn't install the lost nut, some previous owner did that, volvo says to always use a new nut.

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never used a new nut. Impact it on with no lock tight.

    If the crank shaft rotates out of time while installing new seal are you just rotating crank clockwise until the timing line meets up again? Can you do the same with the cams or is it a must to lock them? Need to replace just the crank seal and just want to be sure what im doing and what specialty tools i need.. serp belt pin/block, cam lock tool, crank seal seat tool?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Serp belt pin/block helps. Crank seal tool for sure.

    I have a 1998 Volvo S70 with 83,000 miles. I am on the original water pump and am due for a timing belt/tensioner/pulley change after 8 years. I am thinking of replacing the water pump, timing belt/tensioner/pulley. Is it practical to also replace the front and rear camshaft seals as well as the front crankshaft seal at the same time? Any thoughts are appreciated. I would be buying the parts and having a mechanic do the installation. Thank you!

      My cam seals never leaked at 363,000 miles. Replaced my leaking crank seal at about 385,000 miles. I do NOT replace seals that are not leaking.

    Robert - Hi once again, I bought an 05 V50 and gave it to my cousins son who needed a car about four years ago. it had 60K miles on it whey I did, it now has 86 and he tells me that the crank seal on it is cracked. So I plan on swapping it out. How do you remove it, with a pick or screw driver, or ice pick?? that part didn't make the video ( Which is incredibly helpful) He was told that the crank seal is leaking and that since he is in there the timing belt needs to be swapped Oh and the car needs a CV joint and front brakes.... I was like what did this guy see dollar signs walking through the door when he came in??? he wants 3500.00 bucks for the work. I told my cousin bring it down and my other cousin and I will look at it.. I have swapped out a timing belt on my 06 S60 and it was a bit of a bear but really not that bad.. I told him we would swap the front brakes and inspect what else needs to be done and DONT PAY THE MONEY let me look at it first.. So I was just wondering how you got the seal out and how tough that was.. Thanks in advance your friend in VOLVO Fun - Doug
    PS. I was the guy who wrote you about his girl friend burning oil... Volvo replaced the rings under warranty and everything is fine a full year later - Thanks for your help

      I usually drill a pilot hole in the seal, then put a screw in the hold and pull it out.
