How satisfying. Brainstorming together, hands on working together to carry out concepts. Testing out a job well done - literally "in the field". Then having a review session together on how well things worked out, meanwhile while enjoying the ice cream you all participated in making, as a reward, & then - Becky was still thinking - how can we make this even better - said let's go out on the porch to enjoy eating this ice cream, & then there's one more thing to be grateful for - Sally's all fixed up & back in service. You guys are really setting a good example for us all, especially for families with kids. Too many kids never get to feel satisfied due to having completed a task.
2 eye bolts, to hold a bungee cord across the nesting crates so the birds can't push the boxes out and escape the shaw. As long as you're working on it anyway.
I recorded the Mrs. saying let's sit outside on the porch and eat some Ice Cream. She says Ice Cream with a real southern charm. What beautiful family.
Maybe you should put the door in the back, opens up all kinds of possibilities in the front. Also if you have a little 110 v MIG you could get rid of all that heavy wood and replace it with some light weight 1"x1"x16 gauge square tubing. Save a lot of weight and the tractor would last dang near forever. I don't really get the feet, they limit the ground clearance, I'd go with a cheap rotatable trailer jack. YMMV
Excellant new changes to the Shaw! I was just talking to one of the vendors at the Rutherford County Farmers Market yesterday. She said her husband is going to need to build a new chicken tractor. I told her to get him to check out your new ChickShaw design. I asked her, have you ever watched Justin Rhodes on TH-cam?? I showed her how to connect with you on TH-cam! She said she will get her husband to look at your new ChickShaw! I also told her about Meg & Ben Hollar's channel too!😊😊🙏🐔🐔🐔
I love building things with my boy even if we redo things a couple times don’t feel bad lol we all do it ... that’s how we learn lol I’ve rebuilt my chicken tractor twice already this year because I didn’t like it lol keep up the good work boys .. and girls!
for the legs use a though bolt then it can pivot on one side and a though bolt to lock the other in place. so that way when you move you can turn the legs up and out of the way
Maybe you and teddy would benefit from doing a shavedown, especially on his legs :p not the most easy coat on the homestead I could imagine. Love today's vlog♡
Job well done with the chicken coop, y'all and those raised beds are looking real good. It's going to be a great summer harvest.God bless all the family...Granma and Big Daddy too.
Hey Justin, I always wanted to grow a few chickens and recently I got my hands over a small part of a farm, so I'm thinking of getting a few chicks. Thanks for the inspiring videos, you guys are amazing. Thankyou.
Really cool but be careful. A hitch can be brutal on the shins, knees or thighs (depending on your size)! I've learned that the hard way, several times. I'm a slow learner! LOL! Hey! I'd say order pizza for supper! Rebecca deserves a night off!
If you were able to lift with handles at your side (rather than in front or behind you so you don't have to contort yourself), similar to a wheel barrow, it would save your body in the long term.
If you flipped the hitch to the other side of the chicken shaw you would not have to worry about the opening for the Chickens. you would also have more space to make a utility space to put the feed and water on for the move. I still think the VW tow bar would have been easier to mount then reinventing the wheel so to speak. I still liked the video and the thought that you put into it, being disabled I wish I could get out there and do this kind of stuff still.
I would put the door out the back, not the front. Nest box in front or sides. Easy access on top without having to go in the door. Have a single leg on a door type hinge st the hitch. A spring to tie it up when moving and to tie it in place when parked.
Great job! Your design is getting better and better. The only thing I would worry about is flex overtime. The only reason I didn’t like your design was it couldn’t get towed. Now, it’s finally ready to move. :)
Love the video . we just finished a chicken tractor for our meat chickens it is a Joel salatin style tractor. First time raising meat chickens like this . we always kept them inside.
Idea; Add a 3rd wheel like you have on the Luchador behind the ball? That would eliminate the two stands. Can't say it would make it much lighter but would make it easier for two small boys to push like a chariot... maybe 🤔
Try using a frame around the bottom only the metal can be fastened to itself with metal taping screws just bend the corners overlap all around in 4 L s shape
If necessary back screws with 1/2" lumber I've built large heavy component crates with nothing more than two layers of 1/2" plywood on a 3-1/2" deep frame
Or you could have made a vehicle hitch in the front and push handles in the rear of the coop. Pushing is often easier than pulling because you can put your weight into the equation.
Why dont you just put the hitch attachment on the back of the Chickshaw and keep the handle on the front? I dont think the chickens would mind going backwards behind sally :) and then you wont have so much in the way when you pull it :) Use removable legs with bults sprints to attach legs
What if you put the handle on the back side where the nest boxes are and the door on other end next time you build it? Just a thought. Then the door wouldn't be in the way or any issue.
You could just move the hitch to other side where the chicken lay eggs and have the door open at the back that way their is nothing blocking the door from opening.
Remember back to October 2019 when you FINALLY considered Rebekah’s 18 year request for a golf cart/side by side! Homestead life looks so much easier with Sally. I bet if you got the boys an ATV or 2 that the chores would get done even more efficiently. Work smarter, not harder, lol.
100% meat. They're hair sheep. The ram will be mixed with the ewes come October for early March babies 2021. Then, towards the fall we'll have our first harvest from that offspring.
True, but it would have to be narrower and still as tall, as it serves as a ramp up. Plus you can't go any shorter in the front and still walk easy without hitting something with your leg. Thanks though.
Turn it around nesting box by tow hutch and ramp for chickens out back.
Thank you for focusing on positivity and setting and reaching goals everyday. You guys are awesome and a joy to watch.
Thank you so much!
I love how no matter what, family always comes first and you can feel the love through the camera. What a lovely family, much love ❤️
Thank you so much!
Awesome job guys love how Jonah is always thinking and he's not afraid to approach you about it

For future builds hinge the legs so that you can flip them up and have more clearance when transporting.

Attach the side leg to the center brace, and you only need one leg.
you both are great parents. I hope to raise my kids like you have yours.
New and improved chick shaw!
And ice cream to finish the day off cant be beat😁
Have a good day 🌻🌻🌻
The Half Lap addition to your carpentry will tremendously increase your strength and stability. And it will look 'cleaner'.

Best videos on TH-cam, I look forward to watching them everyday. Thank you
Enjoying your videos loads. During this time. Wishing best from the UK
You need to buy the boys a small quad, so they can use it to haul Henry around..
You got that mobile coop worked out nicely.. I can't wait to see What Al's mobile coop is going to look like. Love the video
What a beautiful sight seeing all your family working together to build the chick shaw🥰💕
Maybe just add a foldable leg in the front when you move it you fold it up
for the legs use a though bolt then it can pivot on one side and a though bolt to lock the other in place. so that way when you move you can turn the legs up and out of the way

Hi Justin.... I just can't get enough of your vids..... keep up the amazing job.💖💖
Johna is a great help I believe.🤗🤗
Thank you! Will do!
fresh stawberry for snacks and from your own garden...jealous much
I’ll be harvesting my first few c- Monsters hopefully by the end of this month.
Congratulations!
Justin..
Please..DO NOT Remove that angled piece. With the extra weight (birds) on the the tongue, the stress WILL Shear the hitch from the shaw.
Thanks. We won't.
Love how you figure out things as a family xx
Hey Justin, I always wanted to grow a few chickens and recently I got my hands over a small part of a farm, so I'm thinking of getting a few chicks. Thanks for the inspiring videos, you guys are amazing. Thankyou.
My husband and I are finishing up our very own Chick Shaw Mini Me!
Really cool but be careful. A hitch can be brutal on the shins, knees or thighs (depending on your size)! I've learned that the hard way, several times. I'm a slow learner! LOL!
Hey! I'd say order pizza for supper! Rebecca deserves a night off!
Strawberry icecream! Yum!

Congrats on that trailer fabrication amazing team work
Looks awesome great video everyone working together! 👍🏾😀❤️🇺🇸
Love watch ya videos your a insperation keep it up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great job everyone!
Gratitude for God's blessings is the best practice ever. Love to you guys from Tuscany, Italy.
Good job on the trailer hitch
I am going to make this tomorrow cant wait
Looks good Justin. Excited to see how it compares to Al Lumnah’s design. Thanks for sharing it!
If you flipped the hitch to the other side of the chicken shaw you would not have to worry about the opening for the Chickens. you would also have more space to make a utility space to put the feed and water on for the move. Nice work!
I knew it needed to go down below the tail gate, worth the hard redo.
Yay you guys did it! It looks great 👍
Yes! Thank you!
You can add 90 degree gussets in the front corners to give them some rigidity.
I love how you listen to your kids suggestion, and treat them as equals :)
Nice job on chick Shaw
Try the tow bar at the other end, that will leave the ramp clear.
rear
That might work. I think now with the hitch and legs all the weight of the chickens going in and out might not tip it.
you all put your heads together and now you celebrate, celebrate dance to the music of victory
Idea; Add a 3rd wheel like you have on the Luchador behind the ball? That would eliminate the two stands. Can't say it would make it much lighter but would make it easier for two small boys to push like a chariot... maybe 🤔
She is like,"Ok put it in the grass I'm done." lol Love your videos and watching you design things.
For the legs on the chicken tractor could you use hinges to fold them up when traveling
I could but that adds too much complexity for us. Just easier to make the legs short and just pick up and go.
New tractor looks good
Have someone build you a longer hitch piece for the beep beep Jeep! 👍🏾😀❤️🇺🇸
That would be cool!
Finally! Glad it worked out.
Now you're a chicken trucker!
That looks fun, I wish I lived on a farm!
Love the video, can’t wait to use your designs one day ❤️
Yay! Thank you!
ok, I stand corrected. lol....love y'all!
You can build it with PVC Pipes too, would make it very lite.
My heart was in my mouth watching all the test drives 🤣
You could put the handles on the side of the nests.
If those legs become a problem maybe you could make some legs that flip down when you need them or up while you are moving it.
Try using a frame around the bottom only the metal can be fastened to itself with metal taping screws just bend the corners overlap all around in 4 L s shape
If necessary back screws with 1/2" lumber I've built large heavy component crates with nothing more than two layers of 1/2" plywood on a 3-1/2" deep frame
u should leave the feet off it and let it lay on the hitch and just level the lay boxes for when its laying on the hitch
LOL. I said that too. Beauty didn't like that look. Too hot rodish. LOL.
Or you could have made a vehicle hitch in the front and push handles in the rear of the coop. Pushing is often easier than pulling because you can put your weight into the equation.
Love it!

Very good video
What if you put the handle on the back side where the nest boxes are and the door on other end next time you build it? Just a thought. Then the door wouldn't be in the way or any issue.
Awesome video 👍🌞❤
Two ends to the wagon could have put the hitch on the back side, with the hitch angled upwards so that once it’s hitched up the front would tilt up?
Hope it works out well for yall.
You could just move the hitch to other side where the chicken lay eggs and have the door open at the back that way their is nothing blocking the door from opening.
I think so. We're gonna look at that. As a prototype we're gonna work out the kinks and build another.
Didn't your workshop used to be a horse barn at some point?
Remember back to October 2019 when you FINALLY considered Rebekah’s 18 year request for a golf cart/side by side! Homestead life looks so much easier with Sally. I bet if you got the boys an ATV or 2 that the chores would get done even more efficiently. Work smarter, not harder, lol.
Sure would, no doubt. There's budget to consider throughout all this too ya know.
Could someone tell me how Mr. Brown got his nickname. I think he is adorable and I love his nickname ;)
Mucho bueno !
Why not mount the support legs with door hinges so you can fold them up and out of the way in transport.
You could add a strap and harness instead of a handle to put the weight on your shoulders.
Hey Justin I am wanting to get meat chickens where do you buy them
Blessings!
Hey guys
Amazing
25mins thank god :3
Is it possible to have the door-flap on the back or the side so the hitch can be made simpler and shorter?
may i ask about the sheep? are they for meat or wool? why are the two in the metal mover kept away from the others?
100% meat. They're hair sheep. The ram will be mixed with the ewes come October for early March babies 2021. Then, towards the fall we'll have our first harvest from that offspring.
Just a question. Is there some reason you couldn't have the door on the back???
Just a suggestion: You need to get a harness for Teddy. Him pulling like that can damage his throat
He's on a harness.
What do you use for insect repellent? I get eaten alive from chiggers, fleas, and ticks.
nice
Put your door on the side. Then you could shorten up the front.
True, but it would have to be narrower and still as tall, as it serves as a ramp up. Plus you can't go any shorter in the front and still walk easy without hitting something with your leg. Thanks though.
What about folding legs in the front? Might not last forever.
Why? This worked great and it's much simpler.
Put old engine oil on your chish shaw
Why couldn’t you move the door to the other side? (asking for a friend) 😁😁 wait, nesting boxes... I remember never mind... 🤪
I will put legs a one stand on a bolt with a latch on.
Please adopt me. I'm not much use but I'll cheer you on and help you eat that ice cream.
