Customers forget how to read when they arrive too lol We have a 24 hr honor system little cottage bakery. Since I'm the baker, the gardener, the clean up crew and animal caretaker, I can't be here all the time Our community loves it and they actually jump in to help first timers when necessary I literally built a goat shed at the gate. Our next venture will be Salatinized a lot more.
When we went across northern New York state we saw lots of small family farm markets at the road side. Being from Tennessee I found it very interesting as you don't see them hear. Nice to know that most people are honest and don't steal and the farmers can do business that way.
What about the personal liability of having people on your farm? I’m thinking about starting a store at my farm, but I’m worried someone will stub a toe or trip over their shoe lace and sue me. I’d love to know your thoughts.
Check your local and state laws. Virginia, where Salatin is from, protects farmers from being sued by people coming there for tourism or to shop at your store.
Well, I live in California so I can only imagine how bad the laws are here on that. I’m going to look into it but even if I get liability farm insurance I’m thinking the sales at the store may not be more than the insurance costs.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and time.
Thanks Joel, we are just south of you in Lexington working on getting our farm store setup. Great advice!

Get yourself some basic slip and fall insurance. A million dollar policy will generally cost about 700-1000 per year
