I'm in the middle of a new toolhead design as well and it's satisfying to see the improvements!

Regarding those sharp edged in the filament path: Mellow has an updated version now with a brass insert there now. Oh and thanks for all the explanations and videos. Edit: just saw you have that heavy AF rubber thingy on your CPAP tube. Cut that off man :)

Great work as always but I think you could still do water cooled version of the extruder keep the motor where you have it completely removed your top plate completely and bolt extruder to your bottom plate. It couldn’t get any more compact or better COG after that.

Since the filament path is set, the motor has to revolve around the bull gear to find it's location so the motor can rests on the plate. This puts the motor over to the right or the left. This means I would need to move over the Y carriage even more. Any amount moved over is 2X loss in print volume unless the bed is moved over to compensate.Water is not my thing. Of course I could use distilled water for when it leaks it won't short out anything! haha. We are working on a different type extruder mount to get better COG... coming soon! But for now this is "hush hush"!

@@MrRocksalt I always wanted vez to do an air cooled version of the water cooled extruder by adding a bunch of fins to it to keep it all short as possible yet keeping it water free. I don’t like the idea of water on moving parts either

Great to see this project progress like that.
Also I’m sorry I didn’t understand : why did you move the Y rail further from the heatsink ?

It started out as a test to see if there would be more leverage, but I am not sure. Then when I went to a two plate design I needed space for the backer. I don't remember any changes in ADXL moving the carriage over. The only loss was print volume.
