People need to realize that all those apartments offering 1-2 months free...after a year (or maybe a 2-year lease), the cost is going to go back up to the original cost...plus a big rent increase. Unless you're getting a rent-stabilized apartment, the landlord can jack up the cost by as much as they want.
Whoa. I get that you were trying to be quick but the fast and dizzy movement of camera made it hard to watch. Your narration was top notch and informative.
Unfortunately there are usually tons of people at the viewings so we pretty much had to run through the places haha! Tried my best to keep the camera steady but I think there was about 35+ people at one of the listings :')
It actually made me nauseated...it's funny, I never get motion sickness in cars, or on boats, but from twirly camerawork, I definitely do! Still enjoyed seeing all the apartments...especially that first one!

I'm guessing #7, but 5 and 9 could be possibilities also. That first one though! Did you notice the bricked up arch sticking up above the floor level between the front windows? Looks like the second floor was originally set higher, with a lower ceiling/more attic-like perhaps, and taller, arched windows on the first floor? What a cool, interesting building. I forget which other one had a working fireplace, 5 or 9? But maybe that would've been a point in favor of that apartment. Fireplaces are ultimate cozy!

We found all of the listings on Streeteasy! But I know that there are also lots listed on FB Marketplace, Craigslist and Trulia :)

The Soho apartments - did I understand correctly that they required 45 times the monthly rent? How is that even legal lol? As someone who lives in the Nordics that sounds so obscene

45 times the monthly rent + they were asking for a long US working history (we just moved here so there was literally no way for us to get it lol). I am not well versed enough in US law to know if it was illegal, but based on the housing discrimination acts I researched, refusing to rent to someone based on country of origin is illegal, so I think it treads a line, but I don’t know if it is illegal. Certainly not ethical imo!
But they also falsely advertised the place so I don’t think they cared about doing things right at all lol.
It is typical in NYC to be considered you need to earn a combined income of 40X the monthly rent.
I head that too and was like maybe she said 4-5 times 😭😭. These apartments are nice but damn the price is up there

Ridiculous. Even with this market there's way better deals in NYC if you actually expand your area. I don't know why you seem so insistent on that particular part of the city.
There's great 2br options for 3k way nicer than these in other areas.
