This really pi**es me off!!! How can Paul Shafer be on the committee for Rock n Roll Hall of Fame & not go to bat for Mr. Maestro & the BB to be in Hall of Fame!!! Come on Paul!!!! I've heard stores!!
Les had called me to tell me johnny and Dion would be on this I have it on VHS somewhere, Johnny was my friend I knew Jay,Dion,Bobby Jay is my friend too
this made me sick. Doo Wop is music and these great men are wonderful singers. Rap is just pure crap. Putting them together is a disgusting thing and I am ashamed of Paul Shaffer. He wust have been out of his mind. Doo Wop forever
Do you mean to tell me this is the only video of Johnnies final song????? Someone at this show must have a better quality video... Please, cough it up! We would all like to see it! Johnnie you are missed by everyone who ever knee you or heard you sing! I only hope that when my time comes, I will exit with half the grace and dignity that you possessed and that you will be there to greet me with your angelic voice!
I just got a HUGE SMILE on my face listening to this!! Energy and Paul Shaffer are the closest of friends this of course goes without saying. Thanks for posting
What a sacrilege! To see Johnny Maestro's talent wasted on Paul's insane narcissistic babbling and this pathetic arrangement, just hurts. The only reason I could possibly have for watching is that I will watch anything with Johnny in it.
I think it's fun. I knew Johnny on a personal level and I also work and perform with Jay on the doo wop circuit. I think if Johnny, and Jay, and Dion thought this was an insult, they would not have agreed to perform it. They are having fun and you can see it.
It would have been a major improvement if Paul had relegated himself into a sound-proof room. Actually, it would have been a major improvement if the song ended after its first 15 seconds.
What idiot thought it was a good idea to put to no talent rappers with three of the finest Doo wop singers in history who can actually sing without any Electronic Enhancement BS?🤔😣😠😎🙄
However, one last note, I too did not like Paul's comment about who's the greatest! That was an insult and I'm sure Johnny, Jay, and Dion did not expect that intro. I'll bet Paul got his ass reamed after that intro..that's where the insult was!!
shudda played for the doo wop side. disappointng that it was Will Smith and the other hooligan. very very sad was hip hop or rap or what ever you called that... i never would of listened if i'd of known it was that kind of junk...johnny you still shine with your beautiful voice i could pick him out.
this is great till that music starts. With all that talent and to come up with something so lame is sad. RIP Miss Ellie and Johnny Maestro. Even though Paul Schaffer would like to think he's Phil Spector nothing could be farther from the truth. A true HACK. No wonder the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions always suck. Go AWAY Paul.
This is truly a wretched performance by Shaffer. I feel bad for the talent that he recruited for this truly awful song. What is even inexplicable is even the instrumental part is terrible. And Schaffer's singing is worse than Don Johnson and Bruce Willis combined. I cant even recall a worse singer than this guy.
MY GOD! " i want to introduce the rappers first because they are the greatest!" Yeah, right, nice quote Paul...are you kidding me? this is beyond terrible..these rappers will be forgotten and they have NO musical talent...to put them on the same stage is atrocious..He obviously loves the doo wop guys but to bring up those rappers with them? it is shameful.
I've seen this clip many times. What a waste on great talent. You cant put Rap, N DOO-WOP TOGETHER. I felt sorry for Jay Seigel, DION,and Johnny maestro. What a waste. You either put them on, or dont. I was so pissed. Who the hell needed CRAP''-RAP. It ruined the whole segment. The whole thing sucked. Whos idea was this ? Paul schaeffer. Delete it please.
Terrible ! Only good thing about this video is seeing Ellie Greenwich singing! With all that talent on stage ...what program director let this go on!!!! Paul Scaffer, lamest guy ever to be on TV. What's he doing these days....shinning shoes on canal street?
Schaeffer is a great keyboardist and bandleader, he's proven that over the years, but he is not the best songwriter and he absolutely can't sing (or rap!). It might have almost worked if he had focused on what he is good at, but he pretty much ruined it.
What a waste of Doo Wop talent. Taking some of the best voices ever and putting cRAP into what should have been an entertaining event. Just to hear Johnny, Jay, and Dion together could have been magic. A missed opportunity. So sad.
@@deaddog5344 will and daddy-o weren’t ok coke in the late 80’s that’s just they’re personality. Paul probably would’ve been dancing too if he wasn’t on keys
You obviously don't recognize who these rappers are. Will Smith has already been a huge star for decades not only in the music world but also television and movies. They're ALL great, each in their own way.
Just when I thought this was going to sound great, Paul hit a switch and it instantly turned into the worst rap music I ever heard. I like rap, but this crappy music that played made me stop the video right before the guys started to rap. I like all the artists, but Paul was the one who ruined it.
People try to hard to be 'cool' and relevant. This is not music but people who shooud no better , i.e. Paul Shaffer, trying hard to legitimize rap . Sorry doowop and rap crap do not mix as much as you q try. People only regard rap to try to be cool and relevant but you think Paul Shaeffer really a rap fan. The great Johnny Maestro. And his musicians on....singing backup for flashes in the pan hip boppers who's music is already forgotten. Johnny stands out......the wrong people were given lead. Come on. Paul Schaffer what the crap. Did not enjoy this at all. Bye bye
It’s a mixture of genres. Paul Schaffer was trying to be diverse. And so much for “already forgotten” when fresh prince and daddy-o have made more money with their music while Johnny maestro has been known to put out mediocre music and can’t get a good rating for the love of him
Dion, Johnny was all they needed
Wish I had not veiwed disappointed
Agree
They should have featured Dion, Johnny and Bobby more
I thought it was The Will Smith show.
The look on Dion's face says it all @ 3:04 ~ RIP Johnny
I was so excited when I came across this then gigantic disappointment -Imagine having Dion and Johnny Maestro together and this your performance???!
This truly was the day music died.

My thoughts exactly. Started by his introducing the hip hopper/rappers first. Dion, Johnny, Bobby and the gals, don't need this crap.

This show aired circa 1989. Rest in Peace, johnny.
