Hi John, I just wanted to ask what about the sales tax, doc fees, etc, etc fees that the dealer usually adds on, will they be added later on or your signed buyers order with zero markup over MSRP is "out-the-door" price. Thanks.
@@ofcbob6391 In Penn, the sales tax is 6% (or 7% if in philadelphia or piitsburg). Doc fees for title, tags, registration typically run around $250. Note most of this is not something the dealer controls unless they try to add on some outrageous "admin fee". For example if you transfer the title and go to a auto tag place you'd typically pay a fee of $250 no matter what. Most of that goes to the state and the auto tag places adds on a admin fee, typically around 10% or so. I just sold two vehicles and that was about the cost to xfer the title, etc for that the buyers had to pay.
So far I’m pretty happy with my dealer. They had a Maverick that was sent to the sales manager to put some miles on it, and they arranged a test drive on it for me so I wouldn’t be ordering something I had never driven. I got mine ordered with a $500 refundable deposit (which I am okay with since it goes toward the cost of the vehicle) for MSRP, and it’s all in writing. I’m happy to get confirmation that they seem to be doing things the correct way. My build date has been bouncing around a bit, but that’s on Ford’s end, not the dealer’s. Hoping to have it by mid to late March.

@@alliancebrokerx5831 sales tax always applies @ signing with any purchase its for the state. I'm sure there will be some sort of fee they try to add on but the price of the truck on my buyers order is MSRP exactly what's listed on the build and price on Fords web sight and varies depending on your spec. The out the door price will be MSRP, sales tax & doc fees, I'm sure, as it's typical with all new car purchases. As I just recently purchsed a brand new Ford Ranger from this same dealership I'm familiar with their process and can say with almost 100% certainty that 299. will be added
If you have a good history with a dealership, go with them. I ordered the new Ranger before it was available locally, ordered it at the dealership, they quoted me the "Build" price that was the same as the web, no reservation nonsense since it was already in production, nothing down, and I got it six weeks before the projected date. But my wife and I have dealt exclusively with this particular dealer for more than twenty years, and have NOTHING bad to say about them.
I wish I had watched this video back in July. I placed a reservation on July 6th and listed nearest dealer which is Gary Smith. That dealership turned out to be a skunk of a dealership. If you request a reservation mark any dealership. Then you can find a good dealership that is fair and above board. If I had it to do over I would be willing to drive a few hundred miles to find a good dealership.
I put $500 deposit on my Maverick order. The salesman who handles all their on-line ordering assisted me at the dealership ~ I received confirmation paperwork right there, and by time I got home there was a conformation directly from FORD.
Thank you for the information. There is definitely mark-up going on. The discrepancy between the advertised base prices by Ford and what I'm seeing priced at dealerships is sometimes several thousand dollars.
Tim is giving car salesman a good name, too bad there aren't more like him! I've contacted several Ford dealerships in my state. They're all clueless, not informed at all about the Maverick, let alone the process of ordering one. Reminds me of when I was shopping for a Honda Ridgeline and not only had to show the salesman how the tailgate opened two different ways, he didn't know about the hidden ice chest compartment. I would have expected this from a used car dealership, not an actual Honda dealership.
Customers need to realize that they have power in this scenario too. Right now, the dealer needs you just as much as you need the dealer (in fact maybe even more-so) because they don't have any cars on the lot and basically can only get 1 truck. If you don't show up to make that order, they aren't going to have a truck to sell. You got to hold the line and refuse to be fleeced. Ultimately, the market is going to have to change the way it does business to accommodate the change in environment and there may be a day where manufactures start to sell direct in the near future.
Appreciate the videos that Long McArther posts, but this video provides examples of exactly why dealers should go away and manufacturers should do direct sales and just have service centers.
I order a ford maverick from Frontier Ford in Santa Cara, CA I went to the dealership today 1-17-2022 to purchase the vehicle. the dealer ship did Not do a markup of MSRP but they included two accessories ZANTEK BASIC $1,679 and ZANTECK INTERIOR $1,659. they said, they spray the interior and exterior all ready with the products and I would have to pay for them if I wanted to buy the truck. of course, I walk out.
I pre ordered a Maverick, when I tried to pick it up at Honolulu Ford. There price was $36k plus fee’s. The final price was $40,165. I think my MSRP was around $23,900 for the XLT. So frustrating…the dealer is telling me I have 3 days to make a decision to pick it up. I want my original deal, not going to pick it up either.
this is all good information. I've been hesitant to reserve and order one because I don't want to put a deposit because I don't know if I'm going to like it. im a pretty big guy 6'2 290lbs and to be honest I don't know if I'll be comfortable in it or not. I'd much rather be able to sit in it and drive it around before I commit to it.
That's one of the main reasons I'm upgrading in vehicles. I drive a Nissan versa now but I'm 6 ft and 220 lb. It's like driving a go-kart. But I need good gas mileage.
I agree, I'm really interested in one, but just can't buy a car without touching it and driving. Also learned it is not a good idea to purchase the first model year.
Try the ranger first and see how it fits you. From what I understand, most people find Ford spaces fairly comfortable, even though they seem tight between the center and the door. I don’t think you’ll have an issue with height with the maverick if you find the width comfortable. I don’t really like how Ford ranger and SUVs seats “hug” you in place, but being close to your size I think you’ll fit - as long as you like Ford interiors. You will be towards the top end of the height range I believe.
@@woodwaker1 In this case I think you can buy the first model year for two reasons: 1. The Maverick is based on a lot successful technologies FMC has years of experience developing and implementing; 2. FMC cannot afford to produce a lemon in this segment as it will become highly competive quickly and they want tolead the pack. They cannot do that with a failure. Its the reason I am getting a Maverick for my wife and purchased a Mach E earlier this year. BTW, the Mach E has been nothing but a joy to own and drive - it has seem more mileage than my 2016 Mustang convertible, this summer. Ford has really turned itself around with its engineering and first year releases. Again, with the margins involved and competition coming they need to get it right, and they KNOW this.
I just had an opportunity to sit in one with a factory rep. I’m 6’2” and had plenty of head room. I’m only 160 lb. I was fine but It might be a little tight side to side for you.

I dont understand how a dealer just ADDS $5k to MSRP. That's not something someone is thinking about when they are on the ordering page. Ford should have something to say about that. The dealer has done nothing to merit a $5k markup when a consumer has done everything on the webpage.
Glad to hear this because I've been told none will be available until 2022 just today. Crazy to see used vehicles at 3 times the price of this. Anyhow these aren't Saturn V rockets being built so at the moment I think I'll stick to an all electric 2 step scooter.

I put $500 down on a Maverick Hybrid Lariat last August....I've received two emails from Ford acknowledging my order, but the dealer salesman won't even return my calls and when I stopped in to the dealer two days ago another salesman said there's still no ship date on my build and when I told him I going to have to do something else he said he could help(they have a used Toyota in stock I'm eyeing up) but when I asked them to have the salesman call, I've still received nothing....further, their used car division won't even give me an "out the door" price on the used Toyota....it's unbelievable. I'm at the point where I may just buy something from Carvana or Carmax and take the dealer to small claims court to get my $500 back. I'll talk to the sales manager first....but in reading their recent Google review it appears they aren't calling many people back on Maverick orders, not just me. The other sales person I spoke to said that "Ford wants to deal with Maverick owners directly" the other day....I can understand why, assuming that salesperson was telling the truth.

I only learned of the Maverick a few days ago when I decide I wanted to buy a compact truck. Found one at a local dealer for $25,540. I asked for a buyers order and it went to $38,970 after dealer markups. Piss on that.
I went ahead and put in lots of online orders with different dealers around Florida. I live in North Central Florida and there are so many dealers it's quite overwhelming. You guys seem really honest I'd love to get your advice on dealers in my area.
I had a great experience with my local dealer, they called me within 2-3 minutes after I completed the online forms. They did require the $500 deposit, but I can't fault them for that.
I ordered a Titanium Escape a few weeks ago. 500 dollar refundable deposit. No talk at all of a markup and I won't pay a markup so they can keep it if they try that when it comes in. My lease is up in August so hopefully it'll be here in July sometime. 🤞
Did you already cover the warranty on the hybrid system and electric CVT? 8 year, 100k miles. I’ve seen numerous complaints about the CVT in the hybrid but I don’t believe they understand it is a much better transmission than the belt/pulley ones. Another complaint is the truck being built in Hermosillo Mexico 🇲🇽, same as the Ford Fusion Hybrid with high marks. Just to give consumers peace of mind. Something to teach in a video about the maverick
Thanks for the info there. I put my order in the other day. The CVT scared me at first because it was a Nissan but I researched them just a little bit on the web. It looks like Fords are pretty good.
I didn't do a reservation before I placed an order with a local dealer. I asked them if this was a problem, should I put in a reservation and have them tie the order to the reservation number? They tell me no need to do that; my order will be processed. Should i be concerned or trust them? My experince: Ordered XLT trim, velocity blue, FX4 package, moon roof, full size spare (note; Why is full size spare not part of FX4 package? who would go off-road with only the mini-spare?!), spray-in bedliner, Trifold Tonneau cover. I debated the tow package but decided against it; if I needed to tow 4K, I think a Ranger/F-150 would be better. I liked a few things in the luxury package but most of it (heated seats, etc) would don't cared, so I opted to not do that. There was a $695 acquisition fee that I questioned; turned that was if I were to lease the vehicle. It'll mostly be a cash sale. $500 deposit; not sure if refundable or not. Expecting MSRP pricing; I'll bail if they try to do a dealer markup, tho the quote they gave is for MSRP with the only disclaimer is that pricing from Ford may change (CYA on their part?)

If only my Ford dealership was this honest. They took a 300$ deposit and never sent me any email confirmation about my reservation or my deposit. I assumed that the deposit would be refundable in case I need to cancel based on other dealerships but it looks like every dealership does things differently so I'm not sure. The more time passes, the more I feel duped by my dealership...
That would be awesome! So tired of dealing with dealerships that try and screw people out of money. I saw two or three dealerships trying to get between $31,000-$33,000 for an XL model and $42,000 for an XLT… I think Ford should see that and cut them off. It makes the brand look bad. It’s just not right to be that greedy. Who the hell would pay those prices when Ford’s whole point was to make an affordable option for people who can’t afford a big truck? Toyota already has the best selling mid-sized truck in the Tacoma. They go well equipped for around the $34-$42,000 range. Why would I pay the same price for a smaller, less capable vehicle? I don’t understand how these people stay in business to be honest. My aunt worked for Ford her whole life and she always told me that there is definitely a difference in the dealerships. She said most are straight crooks and predators, and then there are those few that always try to get you a good fair deal. The one thing is they all make money. The problem is ultimately who owns it. And how much they care about people vs money.

I'm in the Philly suburbs as well. What dealer did you use?
Did they give you any sort of detailed ETA?
John, sounds like you got a deal...BUT...what about the notorious "doc fee" ?
I'm tempting to reserve but would rather wait to get one with a later 2022 build date or a 2023, least amount of bugs.
I hope I'm as lucky.
Did you end up getting the maverick yet?
I did get it, at the end of March. So far I’m pretty happy with it.
@@inflameslp311 did you post online like this man in the video is talking about? I hear Wonderful things about the truck so I'm looking to get one myself! I like that you've got a positive review as well! What trim / packages? :)
Thanks for the info. Don’t sign until your happy with the deal.
I did my reservation online. Sent to my preferred dealer. Less than 5 minutes later, they called. I transfered the reservation to an order & have a signed buyers order with zero mark up over MSRP! I am priority code 19 though and I did put down $500 "refundable" deposit. Southwest Ford Weatherford TX, I received confirmation from Ford that they have my order and now, I wait 🙃
I guess I'm going there ford mesquite tx told me I had to put down 1000 not refundable
Any idea of when you'll get it that's more specific than fall?
@@laurenlucabaugh it was hinted towards October that's the best they'd do
Hi Kim, I just wanted to ask what about the sales tax, doc fees, etc, etc fees that the dealer usually adds on, will they be added later on or your signed buyers order with zero markup over MSRP is "out-the-door" price. Thanks.
Class act! Thanks for educating customers on the process!
My local dealership told me $2500 above MSRP. Might try to keep my 1996 Nissan running a little longer.
This is sad when a dealer has to warn people about other dealers and it is also why I have only bought 3 new cars in 58 years of driving.
I live in UT and today I just confirmed an XLT with you all. Mike is great.
Are you saying you reserved an XLT or ordered one?
@@jackies35 ordered through Mike
@@mustanggun Awesome! Too bad I don't live in Utah. I am here in NYC.
Mine had a $1000 deposit but I made them sign a document saying it's refundable. They scoffed but still did it
From the website, is Ford charging you $1500 destination fee and $600 fee?
This guy is great. I wish dealer's were like this near me..Great job
Seems like a great dealer wish I had one that was like that the people I have been dealing with anything but honest and straight forward
I order a ford maverick from Frontier Ford in Santa Cara, CA
I went to the dealership today 1-17-2022 to purchase the vehicle.
the dealer ship did Not do a markup of MSRP but they included two accessories ZANTEK BASIC $1,679 and ZANTECK INTERIOR $1,659.
they said, they spray the interior and exterior all ready with the products and I would have to pay for them if I wanted to buy the truck.
of course, I walk out.
Thank you for being honest, and helping a lot of Ford customers with their orders. Would you please do another show on what causing the delay in building more Maverick trucks in Mexico or in the US.
Thank you
I’m here as a new subscriber from Johnny’s channel. As a regular person, a recommendation from Johnny is great!!!
The San Leandro dealership in California told me I was better off pre ordering a truck because once they get the stock there was going to be a $7000 mark up, so I hung up the phone
Literally just asked to change my priority code to 10 on my order preview my dealer sent today. Sheesh, you saving me time and money!
I order on 6/17 and was at 80 code, made some minor changes and asked about that code at 80. New updated order sheet, 19!

Good job Long McArthur. Shame I live in Philadelphia, PA.
You deserve some sales just for putting out these great informative videos! 👍
Wow! I'm in Atlanta and strongly considering getting a Maverick in the next 12 months.
This is how you really do marketing and customer service. No BS and just sell your product better than the rest.
No markup, no major doc fees, free shípping if financed through the dealership? I think I've found my dealership! I'm sure I could find a dealership more local that could make the same deal, but I may make the effort to buy through this dealership just to reward them for treating their customers right.
Definitely saving this video.
Yeah I don't like dealing with people anyways and this guy seems like he's honest and straightforward.
No hurry, I can wait a couple years when they start showing up on dealers lots
Focused and concise…. As always, well worth my time. Well done Tim!
Ordered a 23 mavrick tremor, ended up with a 24. 18 month wait. Came in Jan 24, dealer kept me informed the whole time. Sold it to me for 500 below msrp. No added fees. So if you want a honest dealer see Bud Shell Ford in Dexter, Missouri
Thank you for this super helpful video. Just ordered mine today! No deposit needed.
I dont understand how a dealer just ADDS $5k to MSRP. That's not something someone is thinking about when they are on the ordering page. Ford should have something to say about that. The dealer has done nothing to merit a $5k markup when a consumer has done everything on the webpage.
Thanks for the info sir you not only saved me money but I had no idea about the priority number which was 19 and now is 10. Thanks again. Subscribed
Glad to hear this because I've been told none will be available until 2022 just today. Crazy to see used vehicles at 3 times the price of this. Anyhow these aren't Saturn V rockets being built so at the moment I think I'll stick to an all electric 2 step scooter.
There's been no info released as of now that says Mavericks will not be available until the 2022 calendar year. Of course, it may turn out that way.
If you haven't placed a Maverick order yet, high chance that you will only receive your Maverick in 2022. Already over 60,000 Maverick orders have been placed.
We just sold our 2018 Colorado that we bought in 2019 to Carmax for $2000 more than we paid for it. This is a good time to sell your car!

McLarty Daniel in Bentonville did not require a deposit. In fact, she said sometimes it doesn't work out and they just put it on the lot. They also did not mark up the price. I was very happy with how they did business and can't wait to get my truck.
Wow, I wish I would have seen this video before buying my Maverick last week (6k over MSRP) I will definitely purchase my wife's vehicle with you!!!
I was hesitant about buying from 900 miles away, but the free shipping makes it much easier. Wish you would extend that offer for cash deals though
I order it at Automax Ford dealership in Killeen, Tx. exactly what I wanted and then they change my order from hybrid to ecoboost because hybrids were not being made yet, but I CAN WAIT!! they still changed it because they waned. Noe I tried to do it online by myself and found out now it's more expensive! the exact same order I did 8 days ago!! why?
If they keep doing this to customers I rather pay more and go to chevrolet :/
Ordered my maverick lariat one week ago no deposit. So I didn't have a problem. Trust my dealer
I got my order confirmation from Ford. It says it is an early build vehicle. Hope I see it by November.
Wow awesome. I am in Los Angeles nothing but BS in l.a county and Orange County dealers not transparent at all. Will be calling these guys tomorrow to get my order started

This is how you do business
The people who complain about it being built in Mexico are the same people who have a house full of cheap shit from China.

My experince:
Ordered XLT trim, velocity blue, FX4 package, moon roof, full size spare (note; Why is full size spare not part of FX4 package? who would go off-road with only the mini-spare?!), spray-in bedliner, Trifold Tonneau cover.

Well I did it online through Ford, built it online, forward a copy to the dealer, then the dealer requested a copy of my drivers license to show proof that it is a real customer. Ford has confirmed that I am a customer. I am number one for the dealer first order. I can walk away if the truck is not what I want or can not work out a deal. Mostly agree with you with the exception of the dealer getting stock in - you can buy what they get in... but you have to be quick! They have one coming in this month and more in September and they will begin to get more in. You will need to get on the waiting list.
Mullinax Ford here in Central Florida doesn't have a dealer fee. The deposit was $500. I didn't ask if refundable but I look at as I'm buying an option.
Tried to order from Gator Ford in tampa. Was told misinformation and outright lies. Left there and went to Brandon Ford and had it ordered in 15 minutes.
Ted Britt in Northern Virginia is also doing the "no deposit just driver's license" thing. Sales rep said if it had been, like, cyber orange they might(+might+) have required a deposit, but Mavericks were being requested like gangbusters and they thought it was going to be hard to configure them in such a way they couldn't send them to retail.

I made a reservation within a few hours after the official announcement. Have a reservation number and never got a call back.
Dealerships are their own worst enemy. Should be able to deal directly with the manufacturer and cut the dealer out of the deal.
Dick Smith Ford in Raytown, MO charged me over MSRP for 21 F150. I bought it anyways, in hindsight could found others at MSRP or discounted.
