A completely different CB. It's a joy watching him defend, he made it look so easy. The calmness, clean tackle, speed, strength and elegant, never seen him intentionally hurting apponent players . Imagine with such body strength, he could easily end any opponent players. Maldini rightly said, Van dijk is the most elegant defender in the world. THE best premier league defender I’ve ever seen (been watching since 95). He was rapid strong tall very smart and an amazing ball player on both feet. The perfect CB

Liverpool paid 100 million. That is money well spent.

Some say Vidic is better than VVD during his prime. Naaahh.. Vidic went to the ground too easily for sliding tackles and his body seems lighter than VVD. Meanwhile, most of the time VVD just do the standing tackles to stop them. If you watch closely everytime VVD tackles opponents, his body barely moves and shaken by the impacts. It's like a giant truck sliding on the road. For me, he is the greatest defender of all time. Even better than Maldini.
