Man first time i used Box Navies my ears hurt, my hands hurt, and even my head hurts for some reason. Now I use these 24 / 7 and has made every other switch feel linear. What have I become ?

It's crazy that some people get into this hobby and are led to think from the start that clickies are taboo and don't belong on serious keyboards. But the real secret with why clicky gang gets no representation in custom MX boards is 'cause we all know the best clicks are in vintage and non-MX boards.

Montereys, Alps, Futabas... I'll never understand why modern keyboard enthusiasts hate clickies. Sure, MX Blue and its knockoffs sound and feel like shit (minus BOX switches of course), but there's an entire world of switches out there that are far better than your Frankenswitches or whatever.
I actually have some Kailh box whites that sounds have decent. I wouldn't say I enjoy them, but I think you really have to try different clickies. Oetemu and MX Blue give the category a bad rep.
I still prefer the sound of good linears and good tactiles over a good clicky, but they aren't necessarily bad by any stretch of the imagination.
That makes sort of sense but tactiles never got better after alps skcm orange.
I think a lot of people don’t like clickies because all they’ve tried it with are these dense, expensive, keyboards with foam, tape mod, gasket mount and everything. I personally think clickies sound the best with a roomy plastic case that is sandwich or tray mounted and with an alu plate.

Next time maybe you should build a clicky board the "correct" way with a roomy case and tall keycaps. I love vintage clicky alps and appreciate that we have decent modern clicky switches in the form of box jades and navies so I kinda want them to be represented fairly in the community

Which case would you reccomend to go with the SA keycaps and Box Navy's?
@@deesevrin8570 aside from vintage chassis there is the Akko MOD001 which is pretty hollow, also go for kits with plastic shells which amplify the sound better than aluminium ones
@@iwantcookiesplz9444 basically just cases with a lot of space in them which echo back the sound of clickies and make them sound fuller. You can look up one of Chyrosran22's many blue alps videos and compare them to Taeha's 2 custom blue alps builds to see the differences for yourself

Got any other modern hotswappable boards that are good with the box thick clicks? I just put box jades into my keychron Q1, and they're amazing. My left shift is also really deep sounding for some reason, and I think the deep thock makes the jade sound really nice. Got ABS MT3 keycaps on them btw.

I have box jades in my daily driver. The lighter spring in the jades allows for thock along with the click.

These clickies switches will honestly sound very nice on poly/ABS or roomier keyboards. I have my box jades on U80-A and they do sound very, very nice

Honestly outside of memes as a tactile gang I think box navies are quite good. If some misguided fool asked me to build them a keyboard with clickies I'd probably go for those.
I think this is great. I'm on team clicky. Just bought some midnight Jades to swap out some navies. Even though I love them so, they be heavy.

if you actually want the switches to sound as good as possible, its important to lube the click bar especially because thats where most of the rackety thin sound comes from. Plus it makes the switch way more satisfying to use.

@@yeahthatsright33 it really doesnt it just makes it smoother. Living clicky switches only loses the click on click jacket switches. But because box navy's and jades and bronzes for example all use a metal bar, putting some lube in the metal bar wont decrease the click at all. It will make the click slightly less harsh but imo the feel is way better vs stock click bar switches

Honestly the MX interpretation of the Clicky sound is really bad. You should hear the old Alps Blue keyboards of Yore in their full size Chassis. They sound better than anything else on today's market.

Since you actually like experimenting, try this.
Take a fairly muted board - like a portico or GMMK - and put some clickies in it.
But, lube the click bar with 207g2 or XHT-BDZ.
The thicker lube on the click bar will lower the pitch of the click and the muted boards will make the switches really sound sweet!!!
I thought doing that would remove the click?

Box navies are more of a typist switch than gaming one from my experience. Tactile bump is outrageously good. Box Navies with thicker caps are truly end game for clicky mx build. It is especially visible when you compare them against blues with cheapest ABS caps possible like on prebuilt boards (for example g512 SE with blues). If you want more click then you need to go buckling spring or find ALPS keeb.
I bought my first keyboard a couple of months ago and swapped the stock linears for box jades. If I wear headphones it feels like the best thing in the world, which is a fine price to pay for me

Lubed clicky switches (with clickbars) actually sound really good
My fiance actually uses a Tokyo60 with Box Navies as his daily driver and whilst I frequently have to remind myself that I love him for who he is, including all of his flaws, I genuinely got used to the sound pretty quick and now it only annoys me on occasion. He on the other hand loves using that keyboard (coming from a blackwidow v2 with Razer's own green switches and a spacebar stabilizer that fell out, and they refuse to do anything to help with) as his daily driver, and despite his long-time migraine disorder, is absolutely in love with his sin and swears the clicky bois do not induce any of his migraines.
Why do I actually love this sound
Damn, honestly I think box jades are the only clickys i'll be able to accept. The box navies were decent sounding (except for that spacebar, leave it in a fire and let it burn).
Box pink and box noble yellow are better. Try them out!

I’m that guy. Old school keyboard enthusiast. Moderator at r/mechmarket. Lover of 75% keyboards. Fan of the clicky switch. I know; trust me. I’m just as disappointed as you are. But I’ve been at this a long time, and the old school endgame boards were all click. That said, I moved on to tactiles years ago and haven’t looked back. Give me Pandas until I’m cold and dead. Or just cold. Dead people can’t win raffles.
That said, there are some great options if you like clicky switches. I like Navies, but they’re just not viable for most enthusiasts; loud and heavy as they are. In my eyes Box Jades are king, followed by pinks. If you want something cheap and easy to get ahold of Keychron’s phantom blues are interesting and fun as well, though really only for one off beginner builds.

Which panda switch are you referring to? I believe there are several variation...glorious, holy, ...etc. I currently love the boba u4t, followed by durock sunflower and tecsee coffee chip....hope to know which is your favorite tactile switch so I can try next.
@@IronCan88 I have several variations; I'm fairly biased towards my old school Invyr's, which I have a large stock of that I use in core builds. I have tried the Drop's and they're solid, but I do prefer the Glorious Pandas for most run-of-the-mill builds. I was actually pretty surprised how well the Glorious performed. Being an old school custom hobbyist I sometimes balk at mainstream vendors when they make products for this market, but those switches were genuinely great for the price.
The Boba's are also great, but a bit on the stronger side and thus I don't use them as much. Because I'm typing sometimes 10-12 hours a day (I'm a design and dev lead so if I'm not chatting with my team I'm writing code or creating design documents) I find regular pandas easier on my hands long term. That said, if you're not going to lube your switches, the U4T's could be a better choice.
Hot take: I still really enjoy Zealios V2's (67g, lubed and filmed). They're not as popular as they used to be, but they're a very different tactile experience than the Pandas and are, for my money, the other switch I consider in serious builds.
I haven't tried the Tecsee's, but it's just a different flavor and I gave up on trying every tactile switch that came to market a while ago. I found my perfect switch in regular HPs, and I know I can grab some Glorious HP's if they ever run low, so I'll likely stick to those for a good long while.

@@Silverjerk thank you so much. Where can I find the INVYR? Also nice to hear that holy panda is nicer than the holy...they are cheaper too. Do you get the unlubed and ubed yourself? After hear how over-lubed their GOAT stabs are...I am afraid to try prelubed...but otherwise could save a lot of time. Wish manufacturers can make prelubed switches that are done properly, systematically from the factory.
@@IronCan88 I always prefer and recommend lubing yourself if you can. You don't need a fancy lubing station; just a good switch opener, a very cheap brush, and your lube of choice. As for Invyr, these were the original Holy Pandas switches and are only available on r/mechmarket as they're no longer in production; you'd want to look for sales for Holy Pandas and then check the details of the sale to see if they're the "original" Invyr version. They are for sale regularly, and if you find an experienced buyer/seller they will sometimes offer lubed versions that are lubed correctly for not much more than you would pay for the Glorious copies.
The prelubed Glorious are not bad at all. The Drops were pretty terrible, but I've been pretty pleased with the Glorious lube job. I bought some to test in a build, and actually continued using them afterward.

The box navies are amazing switches.
my daily is a tofu96 with a brass plate and box navys lightly lubed with 105, PE foam between the plate and pcb, sorbothane at the bottom with a layer of copy paper between the sorbothane and pcb, all topped off with domikey SA caps, and I think if you tried it you'd probably learn to appreciate clickys even more than what this board did for you. keycults are a great chassis but gasket mount isn't the way to go with clickys imo
it's more of a tock than a thock, basically. with all the sound deadening and as rigid as the chassis and plate are it's pretty much just the switch noise with a bump to the midrange frequencies, no reverb from the chassis whatsoever. it's quieter than a lot of membrane boards I've used due to the lack of rattle, but is absolutely uncompromising in it's tactility.

i tape modded and PE foam modded my keyboard with box jades and honestly it actually sounds sort of good. it made the click sound much deeper

What happens If you lube the springs in 105 then dab a little 205 on the top and bottom of the springs? I love clickies but it's a little loud. A little bit if of 205 on the bar too

Metallic “clank” may come from clicky spring ping. Lube clicky switch springs, if you ever use them.

Shoobs you gotta try box royal navy: box royal (leaf and stem) with navy clickbar. Sounds even louder (especially the bottom out) + so tactile even navy spring got stem stuck
But you'd need a notch on the back of the slider for the bar
