    I don’t know why people are so pressed about the phone call regarding Jayden’s question. Am i the only one who understood where Dave is coming from? Jayden asked if he should buy a house now with 3.5% down or wait and put 20%. If you’ve been listening to the Ramsey show they always say the best way to buy a home is with 100% cash if not do 20% down with a 15yr fixed rate loan or if you’re a new home buyer to put down 5-10% with 15yr fixed rate loan. So that answers that question. Then they asked why renting was NOT an option and Jayden’s reply (at least from my pov) is because he has a large dog and most places will not allow pets. Well rather than explaining all the reasons, Dave is plainly saying you and your wife/gf whatever come first and if you want to save money and live in a comfortable place dog had to go. But if you want to keep the dog and live in a van or rush into buying a house to live with your dog then that’s on you. Maybe I’m old school like Dave because if i have to choose between my life/my partner’s life or a pet… well I pay the bills not the the pet.

      @Charlotte-ti2yk ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Haha. From a money perspective I totally agree with you. But I admit I had a soft heart when it came to my boy (Rottie dog, passed away a few years ago now) and made decisions for him rather than for me. I knew those decisions were not always sensible. I would have been homeless before I gave him up, and had I given him up I would have felt guilty for the rest of my life that the life I had was based on the mistreatment of a creature I had claimed to love. I couldn’t rent easily and probably paid more for rent than I should have, and I probably ended up buying a house earlier than would have been sensible.
      But I did make other good (not that keeping my dog was bad, but I mean good as in financially sensible) decisions and so once he passed away I was okay. Now I’m still in and paying off the house I own just outside Edinburgh, Scotland (chosen over a fancy flat in the city centre with barely a commute due to it having a garden I knew my dog would enjoy) and I have no regrets.
      But yeah. From a purely financial perspective (no consideration of morals or the heart or anything) he’s absolutely right.

    Getting engaged with no set date or one years from now is called getting a shut-up ring. It's where an uncommitted man proposed to shut his girlfriend up on the matter of marriage and kicks the can down the road (sometimes a woman will say yes to a proposal to not lose the boyfriend and also kick the can, but thats not as common). Not saying that happened to Rachel, but the "paint or get off the ladder" situation is called giving her a shut up ring.

    • @BlakouttheMM
      @BlakouttheMM 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A lot of men are committed but hesitate because marriage isn't very romantic. All the companies that profit off it try to make it seem like it is, but if two people are already in love, they don't need a government contract to prove it. It's just an excuse to blow money and feel special. And like it or not, there are people who use marriage against men, divorcing them and taking everything from them. I think it's much more romantic if two people choose to stay with each other and the only thing binding them together is love, not a contract.

    The beauty of the Ramsey plan is that it isn’t personal. There are a very clearly defined set of steps to follow to become wealthy. Those steps don’t involve making decisions based on feelings.
    If your through steps 1-3, go to 3b which is save up 20% of a house payment and buy a house on a 15year fixed where the payment is no more than 25% of your take home pay.

    I work as a Data Analyst so i must be the first to say correlation is not equal to causation. When talking about characteristics of people who do not live at the poverty level, those sound more like the characteristics of a person with good morals. Its like saying, rich people usually brush their teeth twice a day. Doesn't exactly mean that brushing your teeth will make you rich, just means that that is a characteristic of most rich people. All that to say your chance to be in poverty has not a lot to do with your wedding date or if you had a child young, and more with the type of person that you are and where you strive to be in life.

If a survey found 0% of stuffed animals kill children, I provide contextual data to someone like Dave, who could then use his sales communication prowess to convince the masses that buying stuffed caterpillars for your young children is an absolute no no. I have enough money for a down payment on a house right now so I don’t know why I would rent. He didn’t give me any reason to rent a house other then the fact that I live in a van and I’m incapable of buying a house? I hope other people actually can get some value out of calling in. I felt disrespected and not taken seriously. If he would have asked some financial questions the segment would have gone a different direction. Before I got my new job I was fresh out of high school, no parents house to rely on, and no money. My girlfriend and I decided to do the baby steps and get ourselves into the van with a 4 year plan to get into a house.
