      I recently purchased my first handgun. A Single action Uberti Cattleman II 357. I went to the store to purchase some rounds and there were 2 options they had, both the same price, but one was the normal brass casing and the other had a matte grey metallic casing, it wasn't nickel. I had never seen this casing before and the person working the store wasn't very helpful, but I was unsure what the difference was and if for some reason this might damage my firearm.

      Dave Mack, hope you keep the 60 that you have. I messed up letting mine get away. Now I wish I had it back. My wife dropped it accidently on concrete one day and cracked the hammer. Had already had a great gun smith do a trigger job on it so just had him bob the hammer. OH how I wish I still had that old gun. Thanks for your service to us on the PD. I really appreciate, respect, and look up to you old officers. Lots of stuff you old guys can teach the younger ones. I was an ICU RN and Paramedic. Same in any profession I suppose. All best to you and yours. Andy H.

      Peter Norton Nothing wrong with revolvers, especially those small 38’s. They are easy to carry and conceal and also can be shot from inside clothing or your wifes purse and also can make on contact shots (barrel touching bad guy during a scuffle). Great for new gun people, great for saving money, easy to use and understand and its even a great back up gun for the more experienced gun owners. Good stuff overall

Had someone from my range look at it last week, said to just give it a light cleaning and oil in the right spots. Did it and shot it last night. Absolutely loved it. Such a different experience than my semiauto. Now searching all over for info about it and stumbled this video and really appreciate this. I’ll never sell this gun.

  • @CeltKnight
    @CeltKnight 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    After several years in patrol, I found myself newly wed (again, LOL) and without a good BUG/OD weapon. My father-in-law had a nice collection and bestowed upon me th;e loan of a S&W Model 60 (no dash) just like that one (though with a few rounds through it). I was amazed how accurate it was. I could qualify with it on the full duty course with scores darn close to 100%. It helped that our carry ammo was 158 grain +P so it and our 158 gr. std pressure ammo were pretty much dead on with the fixed sights. Fanny packs were all in vogue back then with gun people and just suburbanites alike. I toted that little revolver and two speed loaders along with my badge in a small generic fanny pack. It also carried really well in cargo short using an old nylon cuff case as a pocket holster. On duty it was usually in an ankle rig (I REALLY wish I'd used pocket carry more back in the day ... probably would have less foot and ankle problems today, but whachagonna do?). I carried that little revolver for ... well ... as many years as the marriage lasted. They are great little guns. With all my high-zoot, ultra-compact and high-cap carry options now I find myself really wanting another J-frame (I have a 30-1 in .32 that I carry quite a bit). Specifically now though, I want an airweight or better yet, an "airlight" model. I REALLY want a S&W 342PD but that little sub-11 ounce gun was only made for about 3 or 4 years and are both scarce and expensive. I shot one when it first came out (five rounds of +p left-handed, 5 rounds of std pressure right-handed, and would not have pulled the trigger again if I was offered money). But, now what with not having to shoot so many rounds on a range every year, as well as being able to pick my ammo, I'd be all about a .38 lighter than most pocket .380s. Ah, but that's a discussion for another time. ;) GREAT video! Thanks!

    This is my favorite H45 video.
    Moved to second place is: Shooting the UZI while riding the bike.
    I remember my older cousin's buddy had a friend that bought an Army surplus Jeep through an ad in the back of Popular Mechanics magazine. Like your beautifully preserved Mod 60, it was covered in cosmolene grease. Too bad for him he didn't have Ballistol. He wiped it down with old gasoline. Somebody lit a Camel cigarette and the whole thing went up in flames. He never got it to run. I'm pretty lucky to have an older cousin to teach me these things when we had family gatherings!

    I'm so happy to see this video of the S & W Model 60. I was a criminal investigator back in the late 1970s and this is the first gun I ever owned and I carry it concealed everyday to this day. It's a beautiful gun! Thank you for making the video.

    Bought one just like that back in 2007 for $150. Built in 1968, brand new in box, never fired, wrapped in brown wax paper with all original paperwork. Cool little revolver.

    I've had a Model 60 for 37 years and carried it Undercover , best backup gun all those years wouldn't be without it....a I actually got three J frame some of the new titanium ones that shoot plus p through you can't beat him for concealability and reliability... and it won't rust if it's up against your body..... nice to see you're putting it through the test...

    I bought a gently used 1979 Model 60. I took some Mother's Aluminum Wheel polish to it. I hand-polished it to a near mirror finish and put on some pearl (imitation) grips with silver S&W medallions on them. Other than my Colt Python, I think it's the most beautiful handgun I own.

    Here is some info some might find interesting. In 1988 I was considering buying a model 60. Since it was pre-internet I wrote S&W and asked if the model 60 was +P rated. I got back a beautiful reply on colored letterhead paper, informing me that the model 60-7 and later dash models could stand "continuous and unlimited" use of +P rated ammo. Earlier models should only use +P if absolutly needed and should be avoided as it will cause extreme wear on the firearm.

    I can't believe all the brown crud that came out of a firearm that has never been shot, even after the third time you swabbed the cylinder. Ballistol makes as good of a solvent as it does a lubricant. I have two Model 60s, 1969 and 1983 vintage.

    Had my 60 for 40 years now. I think its THE home defense gun. Small. Great gripping. Mine eats steady diet of +p on the range no problem. Love the hammer for reaching out..(fun at the range if nothing else. Wouldnt advise in a "situation" of any sort). The only negative is i feel its top heavy with the small grips. I put wraparound pachmayrs with grooves, and boy, it gives it a wicked combat look and rock solid grip, although it does bulk it up a little. I keep mine in a soft case under my mattress. I'll never say goodbye to it.

      Come on guys, those that think that they know how to shoot and do not reload are ALMOST as incompetent as those that think they know how to drive but can't even get out of their own driveway with the help of an automatic transmission. Don't forget that that brass case represents half the cost of each round of ammo and handloading allows for a greater variety of loads in any caliber.

    It’s so cool to see a man who knows everything about guns ( almost), being naturally happy holding a brand new, never been used , oily right out of the old box carefully cleaning it before start shooting from it! It might be a real thrill, especially if you prefer guns made in stainless steel. A piece of history related to it is also educational and exciting! You’re a happy man! Looking forward to watching your new videos!
