  • Hatch green chiles are in season, and I had to make a delicious stew. I used a mild hatch green chile and added a jalapeno to control the heat.
    INGREDIENTS
    7 Hatch Green Chiles
2 1/2 to 3 lbs of pork shoulder
    3 medium-sized potatoes
    1 cup of diced onion
    1 jalapeno
    1 tsp Mexican oregano
    4 cloves garlic
    2 tsp garlic powder
    2 tsp onion powder
    2 tsp ground cumin
    4 cups chicken broth
4 oz crushed tomato (or 3 or 4 Roma tomatoes)
    salt and pepper to taste

I'm sick right now with some kind of cold, laid up in bed, and I'm dying for this right now 😭 it looks so good and comforting.

Your videos are very likable. You know what you are doing, but you don't lord it over those of us who are not so skilled. You very successfully sort out what has to be exact and what can be varied. And you are clear, straightforward ... it's all very good. Thanx so much.

On my day off I like to cook, and this has been my go to channel for a long time!!! I'm about to make this chili stew thank you for the recipe! I was telling a customer about you at work and I was showing her all the recipes of yours I've used and I hadn't realized it but I've cooked quite a few of your recipes, only realizing it once I was going thru the list of videos and pointing them out to the customer and seeing just how many I've used. You do such great work keep it up I'm spreading the word about you mama 😁

Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it! BTW the handful of times, driving through New Mexico, I have had green chile stew, the chiles and tomatoes were diced not blended. I like to blend it though, because it makes the broth a little thicker. It's just my preference. :)

I have to use plastic gloved when I peel my hatch chiles. Even the mild ones make my hands burn. I also learned the hard wya to not rum my face or eyes. It only took ONCE!!! I buy several pounds of chiles and char them to remove the skin and the seeds. I lay them flat and freeze them for use during the winter for a good hearty green chile stew when it is cold and snowy. Thanks you for this video. It looks delicious.

Had to see your variation on green chile stew. I am from Northern New Mexico. Here the Native Indians have influenced us and us them in our cooking. I make my stew with pork and potatoes like you. I fry the meat and potatoes, but not all the way. This helps the potatoes to hold up in the cooking. We also use more potatoes and tomatoes. We also use corn and calabazas. We season with salt, pepper, o ion and garlic. Nor oregano or other spices. We also use more o ion. We don't use both of any kind. We usee lots of water and cook it slowly on the stove top usually. If we want to thicken it or add a bit more flavor we will use some blue corn flour. If we do this in the crockpot, we set it on low, add everything in, potatoes in bigger chunks and let it go all day. Yum!!!

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Your stew sounds wonderful! I'm allergic to blue corn, but either way I bet it's fantastic. 😊

We have the best green chile in Colorado. Especially Pueblo CO where we buy green chile and have it roasted by the bushel and freeze it in bags for 1 batch of chile at a time. I plan on putting my recipe out there someday. This recipe sounds delicious also and I plan on trying it. It's pretty similar.

I love this and want to try it, I live in the Southern California Desert and not able to find hatch chiles here, but the other day I was shopping my local Walmart market place and there you go, in the frozen veggie section was ready to go hatch chiles already diced up in 3 different heat levels 😁 or I could make the trip to NM and bring some home during Hatch Season. I'm enjoying your channel.

I love how simple you make these! Tip for over achievers. If you grill often outside with charcoal and don't mind a little planning, you can always use your extra grill space and grill these while you make your other meal. peal, clean out, freeze for later. I do this when I smoke pork shoulders typically. Pull your pork at 165 to 175 internal and you can cube it for posole or green chili stew. Two different dishes in one cook! for a third, portion out some of the shoulder, toss it a pressure cooker and shred for whatever you want. BBQ or tacos or both! Pork is crazy versatile
