My dad died in 1991. I was blessed to watch him the last 6 monthes! He told me everything I hear this song, think on him. Tears of joy came, as it's always played when I need it the most! See you soon daddy..
TRUE STORY: So, I'm a truck driver from Canada and there was this time when I had a load to deliver in Fremont CA. which is across the bay from San Francisco. So I get there at a warehouse and they were not ready to unload me so I had to wait a couple hours. It was a nice hot day and I decided to go for a walk. Out behind the warehouse, I found a gate and path that led up to a dike, once up on the dike I could see the city across the bay and I walked along enjoying the views and peace. A bit further down I came upon a little pier going out in the water and I went to the end and sat down for a rest. Not very long after I suddenly realized that I was "sitting on the dock of the bay, watching the tide roll away, just sitting on the dock of the bay wasting time"
This is a song that will always be a precious memory in light of Otis Redding. The last song he written and sung before his untimely passing. R.I.P Big guy ❤ and thank you for such a beautiful song 🎶
People all over the World know and sing this Song because its simply honest and true. I feel it deeply. It is not only a matter of colour. Its a matter of poor underrated and poor people all over the World.
“Look like nothin's gonna change Everything still remains the same I can't do what ten people tell me to do So I guess I'll remain the same, yes Sittin' here restin' my bones And this loneliness won't leave me alone, listen Two thousand miles, I roam Just to not make this dock my home” ❤❤❤❤❤
It's 8:01 am....sitting outside this morning watching the Carolina sun rise and warm my face and this song came on my mind...this is one of my favorite oldies..today's music can't touch the songs of yesterday
Life taught me not to judge the grow up, because his lack of wiseness, because time doesn't make us wiser, but rather much less susceptible to the damage that destiny inflicts. But yeah sometimes old is just closer to the heart, than new could ever be.
A truly ironic song of a recording artist if there ever was one. One of the great soul voices ever, tragically, silenced prematurely. “Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay” was Otis Redding's biggest hit (albeit, posthumously), the one song he is known for (by those unfamiliar with his career) and one of the last songs he ever made........yet, it is the most UN-Otis Redding-like song that he ever recorded. He left behind an extensive collection and you would be hard pressed to find another record of Redding that sounds like “Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay”. Hawg for You, These Arms of Mine, Ole Man Trouble, Lover's Prayer, Pain in My Heart, That's How Strong My Love Is, Just One More Day, etc etc. and NONE of these are similar to this song at all. So, this particular brought Redding's name out to the unfamiliar and it is a nice song but it is NOT representative of Otis Redding's singing style and the other terrific recordings that he made.
A very beautiful song but kind of depressing to think of giving up and just sitting, waiting for your life to end, doing nothing but being lonely, wasting time, even if it is in a place you like. 😕
@@jmmick1992 thank you very much for what you said for the last of my brother thank you again I miss him dearly I had just came back into his life after 20 something years he died within 3 months after that I miss him dearly
19, and I'm being exposed to this through a college class. I never truly appreciated the old but gold stuff until I took a course on it. Was never big into modern music with the exception of Sabaton, but now I feel enlightened almost
So many of the great musicians died in plane and helicopter crashes. I could make a long list. Its almost like it was a curse or their destiny. I dont understand it.
These stories are just like Otis Redding was singing about in 1967 (Sitting on the dock of the bay), if you listen to the words it clearly states how these ladies living their lives. Take time to download the song you will be amazed what the lyrics are saying.

Listening to this, while reminiscing of the past week, that just ended. I just returned home from Panama City Beach, Florida this evening. And while I am relieved to finally be home, a part of me will always be there. PCB, has always been my home away from home, and like a second home for me. At age 49, PCB has been a second home for me, since I was a small child.
