Hi Michelle! I've been a silent viewer for many years, but felt compelled to comment on this.
I found your channel back in the days when you were teaching second grade and you would get Dunkin every morning before school. At the time, I was a college drop out, young mom, and a daycare worker and was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Your weekly classroom vlogs were a big factor in what inspired me to choose teaching as a career path. I looked forward to your weekly classroom vlogs and they lighted a spark within me. I went back to college in 2020 and pursued my BS in Education. When you decided to leave teaching, it was sad for me because it made me feel like so many amazing teachers I looked up to are quitting and leaving the field because education is...well...you said it in this video. It's tough, and there's a lot wrong with the education system. Even though I was sad you left the classroom, I understood. BUT I've got to tell you...this news from you came at the perfect time of my life. I just graduated with my BSEd this past December and I am actively seeking my first teaching job. Now I get to go through the journey of job searching with you! I love that you are taking a stance and saying that teaching is still worth it and can still be an amazing profession. I can't wait to walk with you on each step of this journey - truly a full circle moment for me. You are THE OG teacher channel and I'm sure I'm only one of the MANY sparks you have lit in this career.

I wish you the best in your teaching career! What a beautiful story! I have been teaching for 19 years and absolutely love teaching in spite of the challenges. When things get hard (and they will) just remember why you are doing this. You can have an impact on lives: help them learn and grow; feel loved and inspired, etc... I was also a young mom so I understand how hard you worked to get to this point too. All the best! Take every challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow.

I’ve also been a silent viewer since the Dunkin’ days 😊and have always been inspired by you Michelle, and this comment struck a chord because I always feel like I have to defend my profession. When I tell people I’m a teacher, the response is sometimes “why?” 😢 I love teaching, I am currently exploring a new adventure though as a literacy coach and am struggling to adjust to being out of the classroom. My goal is to try to make an impact through teaching teachers and we’ll see what the future holds ❤ I wish all the teachers here the best on our journeys!

I actually can’t wait! I miss the “in the classroom” Michelle. I got so much more out of your videos as you were “in it with us”. I have a hard time watching people “teach” about teaching and are not actually in the classroom. It helped because I knew how great of a teacher you were and you did teach but there’s a lot of changes and this generation needs more mentors who are teachers sharing real time experience. ❤

And also, I dearly hope there will be classroom vlogs to come along with the return to the classroom. I so enjoyed those - a form of professional development because the ideas of perspectives of other educators bring along light bulb moments here and there.

Totally agree! I went back for my bachelor's at 40 years old and will be taking on my first classroom this fall. I loved my student teaching experience and feel that my experience both as a mother, a classroom aid sub, and assistant teacher has helped me gain perspective and realistic expectations. I had so many great experiences (especially with my former preschool students) in my classwork for college and the elementary teachers (many of whom I knew from when my own kids went to school) were encouraging me to work there. I am returning to my preschool classroom for this upcoming year, but who knows where the future may take me. So many opportunities out there!

Here I am now going into my 3rd year of teaching and pursuing a masters in teaching all because of your inspiration! I would watch you until 2am and then say to myself, why am I watching this? I'm not even a teacher! Funny how life works! I taught 3rd, 4th and next year I'll be teaching 5th! All because of your inspiration to try something new. I actually love teaching! I’ve been here since knuckles and chuckles (if you know you know!)
I’ve been teaching Kindergarten for 7 years and I have to say this current school year that is ending has been my most successful. I don’t bring work home with me anymore unless absolutely necessary. I’ve done the “less is more” approach and stopped trying to do it all. My data this year is the best that it’s ever been when it comes to my students’ academics. I fell in love with teaching again this year where I felt like I was in a rut because of the pandemic and trying to “do it all” when I was a newer teacher. We don’t have to have Pinterest classrooms, lessons and activities to be a good teacher. Just remember that when you get back into the classroom!

Every opportunity helps you gain perspective for the next step. Congrats!

Your video came up while I was doing some major decluttering at home. I've been teaching high school science and math for 24 years, and have realized that the end of my career is closer than the start. I started doing what I call "Swedish Retirement Cleaning" in my classroom, even though that's some distance away. I don't want to be like my colleagues who stay for weeks after cleaning out their rooms. My plan is to turn in my keys on that last day and walk away totally free. A former colleague actually did this.
One big thing for me: I'm so glad you're returning to the classroom. So many are leaving the classroom, including good teachers. I'm glad you've joined those of us who are staying and trying to make our schools better. And I love that you're willing to share ideas on teaching. I don't do that, but I have been teaching long enough that I can share experience. So you gave me something to think about. I still catch myself thinking I'm the new teacher. That's definitely not true anymore.
And you're right about the community. I love my high school colleagues. We're definitely a family and we have limited turnover. It's scary to realize that I'm going to be one of the first ones to start that turnover. We've all been together for so many years with only one or two positions changing.
Education needs positive, proactive people. And experience is so important. I'll follow your channel. We teach different age groups, but I also know I got a great idea for my teaching this year from one of our second grade teachers. Good teaching is good teaching.
Thank you for being willing to be so vulnerable.

As a home health aide I can now serve children in a different capacity. Leaving the classroom was a hard decision for me. You are such an amazing teacher not just for children but for other educators as well. I have watched you for a long time and I am so proud of all of your accomplishments. Your videos got me through virtual learning and those were my last two years of my career. Now that I’m retired after 31 years, I still miss the classroom!!! You will be great and Texas is lucky to have you. I’ll still keep watching. Once and educator ALWAYS an educator! Thanks for all your help!!

Happy Retirement. I am not a teacher but I am sure you were amazing. I had a PE teacher in high school who told us that she started teaching in 1979? and she retired in my last year of high school. She retired after like 40 or 41 years. Teacher's go through a lot and thank you for all your service as an educator.

Congratulations!! I think that those of us who are called to teach will always find our way back to the classroom. I agree that the past couple of years in education have felt different and at times a little bit heavier. I love the mindset you are going back with. Making teaching part of our life but not all of it has been a constant struggle for me and I can’t wait to continue watching your journey! You got this!

Got me over here crying! 😭 you’re so right, teaching is such a hard profession and it’s been tempting to walk away sometimes but the only way to make education better and to make it a good place for people and for our students is for us to show up and be there. Thank you for being a positive influence, also welcome to Texas teaching! ❤️

From one educator to another, I commend you for your vulnerability and willingness to step back into the career. You are correct when you said the profession is in need of amazing teachers who are willing to stick through the hardships the career is currently facing! I was a 30s something mom of 3 going back to college to pursue teaching and 36 when I landed my first job. This will be my 4th year teaching and this has by far been the most difficult yet beautiful thing I have ever done. This profession takes a lot out of you and it can be mentally draining (especially with children at home to support). To any newcomer teachers.....if I can do it, you can do it. Our country's future deserves to have the support of amazing educators like you! We're in this together! -Mrs. Jones, 1st grade teacher, Greenville, SC

Hi Michelle! I left a 15 year teaching career as a dual language 4th grade Texas teacher in 2021. I left to pursue my small business, although I made more and was my “own boss”, I too started to feel isolated and not as impactful. I returned fall 2023 as a special ed teacher (K-8th Montessori) with bilingual skills. I would have NEVER thought of teaching in a different capacity but I am so gosh darned glad I did!! I feel like a doctor prescribing lessons to high need students 💕. I still have my business but I still get to enjoy being part of a professional community, and of course…room decor!! 🫶🏼
Just a reminder that sometimes changing the frame of your perspective is all you need to refresh your passion, even if in a different capacity!! Congrats! And welcome to Texas!!

I too have been a silent viewer for many years, and I very rarely comment on social media...however this video so resonated with me. I especially loved your comments about sustainable teaching practices. We want to give our all to our students and be the best teachers we can be, but we play so many other roles in life--sister, friend, daughter, wife, mother, not to mention other aspects of our lives like being a knitter, weaver, gardener, etc. If we give 100% of ourselves to teaching, then we drop the ball in the other parts of our lives that are just as important to us. I have embraced the concept of sustainable teaching and have learned to walk in humility knowing that I am trying to show up as the best version of myself in ALL areas of my life. I look forward to following you on this new journey!

Michelle, thanks for all of your positivity. You had me in tears listening to you pour out your heart. The students that you will mold are going to be so lucky to have you. I look forward to whatever journey you are on because I know I’m a better teacher because of you and the resources that you have shared and created. I’ve learned so much from your channel as an educator myself. I look forward to what I can continue to learn from you. My School had a book club this year and we did two books. One was your book “10 lessons you don’t learn in college” & Classroom Management that Works by Robert Marzano. We would read a chapter of your book and read a chapter of the Marzano book. Then we would say, how are they similar and what are the takeaways? Your book was based on my suggestion and the teachers of a school in Springfield, Oregon loved how relatable your stories were and how they very much aligned with a book that was full of classroom strategies that work, and that are scientifically proven with data. I also want to thank you for telling us to always remember to put on your positive pants and although I’ve been a follower for probably three years positive pants just hit different today..

It is okay to be in love with many things in life. It is true that the teaching profession can consume a person, and you have to know where to set your boundaries. It is all about managing your energy and celebrating the strengths(big and small) that come from teaching rather than bogging oneself down with what did not go well. Best wishes to you. Take care, and thank you for your video presentation.

I just retired, after 34 years! I LOVED teaching!!!!!! You have made a HUGE impact on my teaching and life. I could have taught more but eating lunch with my students everyday and having zero planning time because of mandatory meetings that most often should have been emails or NOT shared at all….
Then told that I actually DO have planning time by admin WHEN WE DO NOT!!!! B
You helped me to get organized and to make learning fun for me and my students.
You helped me to show up my best for all-including balance and enjoying my life as well!
You are the most amazing human and teacher!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing and teaching and being so real!
    Truly appreciate you!
BTW I am going to sub! I love the students and teaching! It was most often the adults that drove me out!
You will do great and those students s are SO LUCKY!!!!

I really needed this. 4 years ago, I began my Masters to become a teacher. It was a career change, as I’m currently working in corporate HR. However, I stopped my education when I became pregnant with my second and then my third child. But now as these years have passed, I still have the desire to go into teaching. It IS still a valuable profession. The insanity of public school education has reached new heights as this world continues to darken but this country’s children DESERVE teachers grounded in truth who are running towards them with an excitement for learning, possibility, and more! Maybe I will jump back in! ❤
