This scene is amongst my favorite. Kratos feels nostalgic about Greece. He feels bad now that he’s reflected on his actions and it shows. It puts him in such a good mood that he has an honest father/son moment. And the fact Atreus copies his dad is just cute.

*Kratos IS NOT a bad person.* He just doesn't want people, Atreus included, to know about his dark past, but he ultimately does and so does Freya. Reason why Kratos is always angry, is because he's sick and tired of being used and abused, manipulated, betrayed and pretty much everything else. AT LEAST in God of War 4, we're seeing a different side of Kratos that we've never seen before and I love it.

Can we stop a moment here and appreciate the little brief of a smile that Kratos does when Atreus imitate him? I think that was the most adorable and endearing moment in all the game.

sur ehe does, but this scene here, i mean all of these 4 minutes of footage, is
kratos switching beween his usual self, to the moment he finds the wine,
the moment he smells it, the moment he resignes for a bit untill he finds the urn
the moment he sees the picture up close, the moment of him thinking of it, his past, and then throwing it away, ( btw there is pages worth of meaning right here)
the moment he then rushes himself and atreus back to work, and then the moment if him actually giving it to atreus and drinking himself. all of this is something previous games needed a whole game to build towards.
when kratos buries deimos, it needed alot of the games time to get there and sure its old tech n stuff, but still.
when kratos brings is daughter to sleep okay, that MIGHT come also close, but again the change between scenes there is always a little. well half n half if you understand, not bad but still
this is one scene of many that just is amazing to watch

My favorite thing is that Mimir doesn't pipe up and let these moments play out quietly. Also Atreus copying Kratos's aggressive "ahhh" noise, and Kratos little chuckle after is honestly so wholesome. But then it's quickly shadowed by Atreus calling Mimir "Head". A lead up to crazy Atreus.

I just love Kratos inability to fall for Nostalgia romance, sure when he smelled the wine he remembered his home, but it's what he does with the bottle that I'm referring to, if any one of us had found something connecting us to where we came from we would hold on to it dearly. Kratos? He just drinks the wine, and chucks the bottle over his shoulder, letting it shatter. Love that detail.

I believe he broke it quickly as to hide his true past from becoming apparent. Atreas is trying to get the relic off his head, and Kratos quickly smashes it. Just the same as when he doesn't press Atreas at the the peak of Jotunheim to read the end of the god story. He only comes clean after he murders Baldur, and his back is against the wall with Freya.

This scene is so well animated and acted. Kratos at first sniffs the wine, remembering Greece fondly and his first wife and child. You can even hear a flute playing, an instrument his daughter played. And then he immediately turns to see a pot depicting the Ghost of Sparta. No matter where he goes, he can’t escape his horrible deeds.

When Kratos smelled the wine, I can picture his mind traveling back to Sparta, and hearing Calliope speak and sing. I can see him remembering the good times he had before tragedy struck. For a brief moment, the rest of the world just fell away. His past was gone, and the future was uncertain. The only thing there was the moment. But then he saw the vase with the painting of The Ghost of Sparta and music switches to a more somber and eerie melody, indicating Kratos was brought back to when he was the monster that brought about the end of the Greek World. And we all know that Atreus saw the painting when the vase shattered, but he wasn’t sure what it was. But he recognizes the Blades of Chaos.

God this holds so much... The wine bringing back memories of his glory days and him actually being sentimental about it, The slow flute that represents fleeting peace before the male choir chimes in representing the anger and anguish.... And also I feel the need to stress that this was such a prominent and extreme act of chaos and power that Kratos committed that civilizations that heard about it felt the need to immortalize it in works of pottery. Simply to tell about the Ghost of Sparta, The God destroyer, chaos wielder. It just goes to show that Kratos' veil of secrecy to Atreus is eating thinner and thinner, since literally almost everyone knows who he is.

Ancient greek vases often had stories painted on them. The vase Kratos picked up and looked at had a painting if him with the chaos blades. You can see if after he throws it on the floor. That's probably why he was looking behind him to make sure Atreus didn't see it since he was still hiding the truth from him at the time.

I fuckin love this moment of the game. It shows the compassionate and human side of kratos in terms of how to love and exert a sense of joy despite being plagued by the nightmares and actions of his past. Having a son made kratos whole again, made him a true warrior mentally, away from what had made him into the monster many people see...He became a monster only because of what the Greek pantheon put him through, he wasnt relieved after completing the ultimate task, he was lied to by many gods, he killed his own family because of the former god of wars' twisted sense of morality and what he thought was right. Just to see Kratos having this moment with atreus was beautiful
Despite all of that, im ready for kratos to end the reign of Asgard.
