I sprained my ankle (actually foot) 2 weeks ago. Initially it wasn’t that swollen but I could not physically walk on it even a step after I hobbled home. I tried icing it but it was making the pain worse. Later that day I went and got an x-ray and sure enough have a little avulsion fracture off the anterior calcaneus. It got more and more swollen and bruised over the next 2 days and could not physically weight bear for 3 days even in a cam boot. I’ve been told now I can walk on it and have weaned off the cam boot now. I still limp and my calf size is so much smaller now. My mobility of the ankle is almost back to normal in plantar flexion and dorsiflexion. It’s painful still with some inversion and eversion movements with weight bearing but even this is improving. I have a physio appointment this afternoon and hoping to be moving onto strengthening! Such a frustrating process as a usually very active individual!

This video was really good, and just what I was looking for! I appreciate so much, all the thorough and detailed descriptions of the foot and ankle anatomy, and all of the types of injuries that can occur. It really helped me in a big way.
About 16 months ago, I injured my ankle in such a way, that has caused me to be continuously impaired, as it still has not healed correctly, and some days I can barely walk. It is especially hard when I first get out of bed and sometimes additional pain in the evening.
What has made things more complicated, are a few pre-existing problems I had prior to (what I believe to be a sprain based on the descriptions I learned of in this video) to the actual and most recent sprain incident.
I put off going to the doctor, because I had just moved from one state to another, and in a new town/city, and it was during the tail end of all the C19 nonsense and all the disturbing Gestapo-like forceful pressuring of people to get injected with an untested toxin as some kind of requirement in order to resume with our lives. It was and still is, a very creepy situation, as we do not get granted "rights" nor does government get to remove them in the name of "safety". Then use every way to imaginable to coerce people into taking this injection, with an unnatural and contrived urgency that to me, more and more came to resemble what I saw as a deception. Everything about it was highly suspicious. The conflicting information that constantly changed, the labeling people as spreading misinformation or cutting people out of the use of social media if you asked questions or shared your doubts to others. Then the (US) government and other major health agencies (you know the ones) decided to make other medications and treatments that were KNOWN TO BE EFFECTIVE AND SAFE, and made them practically inaccessible. Also Highly suspicious! They collectively continued to push this injection as leverage if we wanted "normalcy" to return, but never gave consistent answers to legitimate concerns. I could go on and on, even more than I have, though I'm sure you get the idea, as to why I was terrified to go to a hospital. I simply was not going to be a "lab rat" in their creepy experiment. It makes no sense, and can actually be harmful, if you take a "preventative injection" when you've already had that particular ailment. You don't get a shot for chicken pox for example, after you've already had it. Doctors know this, yet these "authorities" did not care, and that is clearly something that is wrong, and only adds to the suspicion when you see such "deliberate incompetence".
To make a long story substantially shorter, I had the good fortunate of finding a good place to go to,and very close to my home, that specializes in podiatric issues and conditions, to get a better look at why my ankle is so damaged, now that some of the viral hype has dissipated. I feel I have a small window of opportunity before "they" attempt another planned threat.
I've spent over a year in pain most of the time, and I'm completely sick of it, and with not knowing exactly what is wrong with me or what to do about it. I could never seem to find any answers that made sense, until this video. This has been so helpful considering all the obstacles and uncertainty.
Thank you so very much for helping to clarify the missing puzzle pieces of my problem so I can be more at ease with the direction I need to take, and with more accurate knowledge to better allow me to find a solution to my on going impairment. An impairment, I definitely want to be free of.. it's been a painful and frustrating journey with no end in sight until now.
    I sincerely thank you~

Hi I’ve sprained my ankle 6 weeks ago I still have swelling on my ankle. I went to A&E next morning got the X-ray done and I was told there’s no fracture and 2-3 weeks it will heal but it’s been 6 weeks and and I can walk fine, started doing exercises which you have recommended and I can do all of them okay however swelling still there. I had 2 sessions with physio and she told me it was grade 2 sprained and it could take up-to 8-10 weeks to swelling to go down.
I want to get back to playing football and I’m not sure if I should try start running and playing again what advise would you give, many thanks in advance.

      Hi Ibrar,
I cannot comment on that without having done an assessment of your injury and your circumstances. The physio that you mentioned would be better placed to advise you on this.

I sprained my ankle while hiking and I had to go back for 5 miles. It swell immediately after injury and was extremely stiff. I tricked myself into thinking it didn’t hurt and now I can’t move it, I put ice on and the freezing gel. I don’t know what to do 💀

You need to go to a podiatrist first and get X-Rays to make sure you don't have a fracture. If you only have a sprain with no fracture then you can do rehab which will lead to full recovery. I highly suggest you try HEM. Don't use the RICE method that is so common, it doesn't work.

Perhaps it would be better if you consulted a doctor or physio who can assess it for you and see why exactly it is still painful.

I am a teacher and sprained my ankle a year ago while coming down the stairs. Xray showed no fracture but MRI showed inflammatory synovitis with mild ankle joint effusion. I had no option to quit the job at that time, so I took no rest and kept working all days. I used to get cramps and pain while standing, walking, climbing stairs and swelling by the end of the day. The injury became more serious and I had to quit the job. It's been almost 2 months now I have been resting at home. But still I can't walk properly and my ankle shows stiffness, redness, swelling and burning pain. I can climb the stairs but can't go down the stairs easily. It really hurts. I feel hopeless and helpless thinking that my ankle has been permanently damaged. Not understanding what to do.... totally fed up now.☹️😫

It may help if you have it assessed by a physio so that you can get treatment advice and a plan to help you recover. All injuries can heal, even if they have been neglected for a while.

My chronic ankle pain happens when I overuse it. Very minor pain because I stop right away. How do I build up my capacity so I can enjoy sports for more than 45 minutes (skateboarding Pilates and yoga)?

It would be best if you consulted a physio who can check what your current strength is and what it is that you require and then create an exercise programme specifically for you. This is something that our team can help you with via a video consultation - you can find out more about how these work on our website: www.sports-injury-physio.com/

It sounds as if you can do with a second opinion because your ankle should be better by now. Have you completed proper strength training for it? The most important part of ankle sprain treatment is a slow progressive rehab plan to restore the strength. Dry needling and mobilization only works for a short while to reduce pain.
If you wanted help with your rehab and an exercise plan, this is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call. You can read more about how the online consultations work here: www.sports-injury-physio.com/services

I sprain my ankle yesterday at church because of my hills. It look swollen but my friends said it’s not that bad compared to her sister. The thing is it hurts when I move my feet left and right but I can move it up and down. Should I go to the Dr. To get it check?
