It may just be that the joint is irritated - ask the doctor what the source of your pain is - why is it still hurting and what do they suggest to get it better.
Finally I get an answer to why my shin hurts so bad. 3 weeks and its finally calmed down where micro movements aren't causing Niagara falls to flow from my eyes. Garbage can with ice water up to my knee is my therapy. The back of my calf area is also torn. I can't walk yet.
Hi, Firsly, your video is amazing and the best video regarding high ankle sprain on youtube with such detail. I had a question regading ankle dorsiflexion mobilisation exercises while sufffering with high ankle sprain. It has been suggested that initially dorsiflexion should be avoided after high ankle sprain. When fan dorsiflexion mobilization exercises be performed after high ankle sprain ? 6 weeks plus after the injury ?
Thanks for load of High ankle sprained. I regretted I did a foot flexing too quickly, Now I immobilized my ankle for 8 weeks , Then I rehab my foot to regain my muscle
I have a less severe high ankle sprain on my left ankle. I was wondering if walking with a stabilising ankle brace is ok, as long as I dont get any pain signals. As for now (5 days after the sprain, but also immediately after that) I can bear all my weight on my left foot, I can make all kinds of rotations and I dont feel any pain. I only feel some kind of shivers here and there, but def. Not pain. I just dont want to do something wrong, but I feel I can walk.
You need to check with your doctor - with this type of injury it is better to be too conservative at the start because you usually only have one chance to get it to heal conservatively and if you are too aggressive with your weightbearing you may end up interfering with your healing. So follow their advice.
Any advice on recovery i had a complete tear of the deltoid ligament and a complete tear or my atfl ligament along with partial tear of cfl ligament. Can you give a guideline on this injury?
You can find treatment advice for lateral ankle sprains (ATFL and CFL) here but your injury sounds a bit more complex since Deltoid is involved, so you are better off getting tailored advice from a physiotherapist: th-cam.com/play/PLkRW4ITRa6bAXw48EQPjY44dH24mX-Wd9.html
Great video...I’m waiting to see what my orthopedic says about mine...I completely tore my AITFL,have a moderate sprain in both my PITFL and IL and then have a hairline fracture in my posterior malleolus
I seem to have swelling in my PITFL ( behind the ball of the ankle on the posterior side) and have pain during plantar flexion. squeeze test does not lead to any pain. AITFL does not have any swelling. dorsiflexion is pain free. I have my injury through soccer / football as well. Can you please tell if there is anything in this video that might be different for this case. Thank you.
I've literally just sprained my ankle yesterday. Bruising is medial and high lateral of malliolus.. I can lightly walk on it. Do one legged heel raises but with instability and a little bit of aching. Would it be possible to get some rehab exercises from you?? I have the video of ho it happened. I rolled it inwards but I've sprained each ankle 15 times now
Can you also get a high ankle sprain by rolling your ankle forward (where you basically land on the tip of your toe and fall forward, causing hyperflexion in the front of your foot & ankle)? I know that that can obviously cause fractures, but could it just be a sprain if you landed with less force?
I had a maissoneuve fracture. 2 sydesmosis screws. 8 weeks non weight bearing. I still wore the moon boot 2 more weeks adjusting to weight bearing again. now ive transitioned to walking 3+ weeks after. Still doing it tough though including pain and swelling..... How important is it to goto physio after? can i practise movements on my own?
You can absolutely practise movements on your own, but a physio can help you to choose the right exercises and make sure that you don't do too much too early. There is really no need to see a physio too often. All you need is rehab. I usually see my patients once for a 45 min session where we design their starter programme. Then I follow them up via email until they are ready to progress. For this type of injury I usually only see them every 3 to 4 weeks to update their rehab and if the patient progresses well and understands how to do their rehab they often only need to see me 3 to 4 times. So don't get sucked into seeing someone every week for x number of weeks!
@@twinnisme everything healed up fine. I decided to leave the screws in which was a mistake. Mobility was impaired as well as aching. still waiting to get them out. See the physio and stick with the exercises it was a slow but sure recovery. Good luck
@@caminho7340 oh I see, any reasoning to why you kept them in? My surgeon already booked my admission to take them out in about 3 weeks. Glad to hear you have recovered. And the same to you
A week ago my 9 year old daughter who is a competitive gymnast fell off the bar forward and we believed she got a high ankle sprain with a squeeze test at day 5. Initially she has 0 pain walking, level 2-4 pain doing tippy toe, jumping and running. We did taping and lace up brace. She still went to her gym training and did only conditioning. But in the past few days she developed walking pain level 1-2 from 0 at the time of injury. Shall I use Air Walking Boot instead of the brace to speed up the healing? How long do you think she can recover from a mild High Ankle Sprain? She is at her competition season is missing her competitions. Thank you for your video!
Go with the air boot along with ace wrap bandage for support 4 to 6 weeks for healing time i had this injury so i know how to treat it and crutches also will help
I can see that you also answered to some recent comments so I will try my luck. On the DF to outside test, if i feel like only dorsiflexion causes pain what should be the problem? Is it still a high ankle sprain or it can be something else? I was thinking it's a grade 1
You can't make the diagnosis from just one test - you have to combine the history of how it happened + how your symptoms react to movements + the tests. So I really can't provide a safe guess at what may be your diagnosis.
@@SportsInjuryPhysio basically the only problem is the DF. As for an injury moment, I don't really have an exact moment. I remember landing badly after a jump but the pain was only for a couple of seconds and I continued playing. I didnt have any problems with it afterwards except for the fact that I had the impression of the ankle cracking more often when moving it when I was laying down. After like 2 weeks from the incident it cracked harder one time (when laying down and just moving it) and after like 2 days I noticed having problems with it. There was no swelling, no nothing, just pain in DF movement. Now I am resting it and it seems better but I am not sure if resting is enough (I had an acl tear in my knee last year and I didn't know that yet, but after some longer rest I taught it's nothing serious and it's gonna get better and it was clearly false. I just don't know if that applies here)
I injured my ankle due to I missed a step on a stair and fell on my left ankle and it popped twice (like something is popped together) my orthopaedic only used x-ray to determine that I have 2° high ankle sprain and put me in an aircast shoes I'm doubting if it really is high ankle sprain since he didn't really check my foot only based on x-ray
I sprained mine playing soccer. It’s been 1 months plus. I don’t fell pains walking or moving around. But I can’t run or play soccer without feeling the pain. When I rotate the foot the pain is on the outside of the foot by the the ankle I think the call this lateral. am I overreacting?
It can take 12 weeks or longer to fully recover. It is important to do the correct rehab and rebuild the strength around the ankle. If you have a lateral ankle sprain, this video may help: th-cam.com/video/cm0oGeEWDOg/w-d-xo.html
AVOID DORSIFLEXION. I was 5 weeks into a grade 2-3 high ankle sprain recovery process. I did a bit of dorsiflexion and the ankle acted up and swelled for about 2 days. Does that mean the AITFL ligament is torn again and I have to restart the process all over again back to day 1?
It likely just means that you've irritated it rather than torn it. But you will have to adapt your exercises to suit your current symptoms (so make them lighter or ease off fully for a few days) but you may find that once it is calmed down again it reacts a bit quicker than what it did initially so it isn't totally back to square 1.
Hey man did your injury heal? I just went into a grade 2 or 3 ankle sprain like 5 weeks ago, got any tips? School has resumed lately I can't get there because if my injury.
