  • "Another G23vtec buid project" continues. F23a4 block needed a cylinder honing to get rid of the cylinder glazing. Explaining why I'm using a K20a2 pistons for the g23 w/ a quick way of checking P2W clearance.

    I've had good success using the ball type hones on the F23 blocks, I just keep it lubed up with clean engine oil. Actually most of the F23 engines I've torn down have all been in amazing shape. I've torn down 3 or 4 F23A1/A4 that were daily drivers, and you could still see the original cross hatching. Even the rings were all free and in good shape, and the bearings were still good. These engines hold up extremely well with decent maintenance and oil change intervals.

    I love binge watching your videos brotha! Its me again Vee.. lol. I'm sure I've already told you, but I finally got my hands on a h22a4 complete head and block from my yard.. rare find, and the wrecked prelude still hade the complete motor with m2y4 trans, but I didn't have enough for the transmission atm.. so I lost out on a good transmission.. but I'm fully rebuilding the head and block, ive downloaded the prelude manual, and it states on there that the block can be honed? With a rigid stone? Which is what you have? Isn't it? I plan to use new hasting rings. But I only have the same honing stone you have.. on the prelude manual, I swear it shows the same identical one as well? But if I get new rings, would it be a good idea to use them without honing the walls for them to seat properly? Or are the frm sleeves okay to do this? Lots of questions I know.. 😂but I really want this swap to be reliable and last.. I've gotten my king .001 extra oil clearance bearings in already, since the honda oem color coded bearings are hard to find.. but my block only needs 1 yellow and the rest are green sized bearings with the stamps on the block and crank, so I figure I get .001 to give myself the extra cushion just in case, ill be plastigauging everything of course, but as long as I'm within .0015 - .0018 on all my mains ill feel confident. Would there be anything else you would recommend me doing? I pretty much ordered everything brand new, gaskets etc.. some oem honda.. but a few I had to source from the parts store like GMB waterpump, gates timing belt, and I bought an ebay manual tensioner. Idk hopefully I'm not forgetting anything 😢😢😅😂😂😂

      Your'e doing ok brotha! If your block cyl bore are w/in serviceable tolerance, and when you disasseble it that it look like its not burning any oil. You can just put new rings on it. Dont do any honing if you can. But if you feel like doing it. Just do a quick pass. Hope you put it all together and enjoy it. For the tranny, you'll run to it again. Thanks brotha

      @@sagittnet2158 thanks brotha. I appreciate it 🙏. Ive been debating whether or not to do the h23a vtec conversion.. but since I have a 97 spec block, ill have to use the f22a crank and rods.. but its the exact same spec as the h23a1 crank and same part number. Since I have the engine disassembled. I'm very tempted.. but the inside of this engine looks great. The bearings have little to no where, and the oil residue is not sludge at all. Just a slight very slight tint of orange. Maybe from high mileage. And I'd hate to not use these reliable parts.. but I'm hoping I won't be disappointed with the torque and power output the h22a4 will give me.. I know the h23a vtec has lots more torque. Ill be swapped my pinouts from a11 and a6 around I believe, those printout sheets you sent me were a godsend since I study it almost everyday in the past.. 🤣 🤣 but any hoo.. I tend to ramble on when it come to cars or Fiona in general.. lol. Hopefully I'll be in the h22 club soon. Just a few more parts. I'm missing only the odb1 h22a1 internal dizzy, maybe obd2 injectors since I'm reusing my chipped p06 ecu that got sent off to hasport for vtec components.. and I accidentally gave my h22a thermostat away with those two blocks I got for free last year.. SMH.. so ill be needing that.. and really just the h22 upper plenum spacer that hold the IAB plates. And I have everything else. Phew!!.. lol

    • @sagittnet2158
      @sagittnet2158  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just build the H22a4 first, that way you'll have a reliable engine. You can always build a frank engine anytime, w/ H22a4 recondition, no worry of anything and you can run the piss out of that engine. The key to higher rpm are the valve train, you have to replace the springs.

Do a elimination procedures, I can suggest check your IACV , check the filter and clean it, then check iacv together w/ idle screw if it require to be adjusted. It can be that your alternator could be needing some replacement but this will be your last move though. If you did any recent maintenance on your car prior to this problem. Go back to whatever you did. Check or ajustment of tps might help too. Check all your ground connection also. Check your Ignition spark plug gaps and check your rotor. I'm confused about the whole piston offset thing, I understand that the k series motor rotates the other way but the valves are on opposite sides anyways so why does the piston need to be oriented that way?

    • @sagittnet2158
      @sagittnet2158  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's because of K20 piston wrist pin offset is opposite of F23 piston. Mainly replicating f23 piston correct oriention when installed on f23 rods. It doesn't stop other builders to install it on normal position. It'll be a good if someone will share some info if anything abnormal wear on cylinder walls or piston if its installed opposite of f23 piston. Thats pretty much the reason behind it and also a little bit of history. The creator of g23vtec found out also that there are enough valve to piston clearances when using k20 type S piston wrist pin orriented the right way like F23. ITR and CtR k20 piston have taller dome than type S, so it'll require to at least clay your motor if wish to use a piston other than type S.

      @@leokogan1002H22 piston made by JE have a wrist pin offset, l believe it was FSR model and some manufacturer dont have it. You can also find a K20a2 piston that doesn't have wrist pin offset made by CP piston. Wiseco k20 have wrist pin offset but their H22 have no wrist pin offser. It's a bit confusing on piston selection but you can always narrow it down to make it easier. Just remember that H22 have a different cyl sleeve w/c is FRM and piston selection has to be compatible w/ it. Otherwise damage on cyl walls and piston skirt will occur.
