- WELL, WELL, well. look who came crawling back. welcome back. this video is an attempt to very quickly catch up players who have left the franchise in between 2017 and now by going over major milestone events and game systems that have been introduced over the years. this is not a comprehensive video of everything because that would be a 6+ hour video and that scares people off, nor did I wanna make that, at least right now. there is a small section for people who have never played the game before, but this is mainly focused on people who HAVE played destiny to some degree and are coming back for Final Shape.

I started Med School not long after Forsaken came out, and gaming took a back seat to my studies. I haven't touched video games in years at this point, but after recently graduating, I wanted to play Destiny as it was my favorite game. I honestly was a little surprised it was still up and going after all those years. I knew stuff had changed, but not this much holy shit... Thanks Datto! This is a really well put together guide that points people from every era in the right direction. Much thanks!

One other change from Witch Queen is that legendary weapons have Origin Traits, which are essentially a 3rd mini-perk that give weapon foundries/sources some more distinction or “flavor”
and are a pisspoor replacement for masterworks no longer generating orbs because Bungie couldn't fix guitar errors
@kalebdavis7080 you're flat out wrong. Orbs have been good for certain builds but they are FAR from necessary to play the game and there are PLENTY of ways to generate them. I think nostalgia or looking for a reason to complain is hitting you hard because masterworked weapons generating orbs is not better than the average origin trait flat out unlocking new ways to build around a weapon instead of going for the same 3-4 perks on every weapon in the same frame

@@ShadowNemesis575 I mean as a replacement for all it does little to abate the fact that there's no real incentive to masterworking a gun anymore, as the stat bump is negligible, and you don't get a secondary effect on fully masterworking a gun now unlike armor, which at least gives an across the board stat boost. 5 masterworked pieces of armor is 60+ free* stats, whereas the 10 you get from fully masterworking a gun doesn't really do much. If anything, masterworking should now either give a damage bonus, or a bigger stat bump.

For new players:
-the quest tab under the featured quests shows everything u need to do
-pressing tab to pull out your ghost will show a much more accurate quest marker
-u can use upgrade modules to power up your gear when u right click said gear
-dont waste upgrade modules in early power levels wait until somewhere after 1750 power
-find someone with 3000 hours in the game to hold your hand (thats me, im the 3000 hour guy, hmu, ily)

I have been playing this game for a very long time. Watching this vid really put into perspective how much this game has improved and changed over the years.
Not gonna lie, been trying to come back to Destiny after being away for around 3 years, OMGGGG its super overwhelming. I used to be a super hardcore player who has literally everything(end game weapons/gear/etc). Playstation gave me "The Witch Queen" for free which is why I decided to start playing the game again, and it insane how much content(weapons especially exotics)I am missing. This video is literally perfect timing because I am soooo lost. Its sad cause I dont even remember how to play some of the simplest contents.
I'll take you under my wing man. I play a handful of nights through out the week after work. 7pm mst to about 11pm on the days we do play. We can get you up to speed no problem. If you need some buddies

I remember the first Datto videos i watched were exotic weapon guides for weapons that had quests being sunset in Beyond Light. Datto always make concise yet comprehensive content. Thank you
Lightfall + Annual Pass is $30 on cdkeys right now, it also gives you access to the dungeons (NOT GOING AWAY WITH FINAL SHAPE) with the other seasonal content so for that price it is absolutely worth picking up. If you go for any other expansions pick them up at a heavily discounted price on cdkeys as well. Legacy collection with the other expansions is $19 and the 30th anniversary which includes a dungeon and Gjallarhorn is $5, the Forsaken pack which just unlocks access to Forsaken exotics and lets you unlock a few immediately is $3. That is all you need to buy if you intend to really play Destiny it will unlock nearly all of the content in the entire game for you for a grand total of $58. Genuinely a bargain compared to the prices new games are dropping at today.
Facts I can vouch for cdkeys I bought so many triple a games from them at crazy prices definitely go with this website if you wanna save some moneys

I just started watching and have played on-and-off since Destiny 1. I have never been able to stick with the game because I get close to the soft cap and then can't do much if any of the harder, more rewarding content, because I've always been mostly a solo player. I left again in Lightfall for the same reason and am so glad to hear that they added a group finder tool in game! But I am looking forward to watching every single one of the videos in the description (and more!) because I think they are exactly what I've been missing -- THANK YOU!

These kinds of videos are also helpful for all of us old timers, just to remind us how far we’ve come. Sometimes you can get so caught up in the here and now and hard to remember what we lacked back then. Like loadouts, game changer

I can answer that.m, I stopped playing the game because the seasonal content model made me give up the game after 4k hours I’ve put in. Until things get to a point where I feel my time is respected I’ll probably never come back. I still very much love the universe of the game and everything the lore and game has to offer just could care less about seasonal content and re-grinding the same ish. So I think it’s because people love the game but hate the systems that we feel or I feel ruined the experience for me.

Sometimes people are gamers and follow gaming news / gaming youtubers. I've been following Diablo 4 news for 1-2 years and I still don't own the game. I was tempted to come back when I saw this video come up in my feed but was reminded of the DLC list and rotating content that gets pulled from the game. I probably haven't played since Curse of Osiris and the "infinite forest" lol

I would say the most important tip for new players is that when this game doesn't feel fun anymore, just stop playing it. Don't force yourself to keep playing just to avoid FOMO because whatever you could possibly miss will either be powercrept at some point or made accessible later.

Very helpful. Last thing I remember playing in Destiny was chest farming the menagerie in season of the opulence. Haven't played since but will play final shape to wrap up what is thousands of hours of Destiny over the last decade. D1 King's Fall with the guys 3x/week is the most fun I've ever had gaming

I got back into D2 around Black Friday because of all the sales (after not playing since Shadowkeep) and honestly I fell back in love with it. Of course Bungie is still Bungie and falls short from time to time but man do they do things so right other times. I was hesitant but I have preordered TFS and im so excited to see where Destiny continues to go

23:53 the calus mini tool is my go to SMG for its incandescent ability and mida synergy! Such a solid lil gun, so glad others have a chance to get it back! That season (season of dread iirc) was by far my favorite season which is odd cus it's also one of the smallest we've received in a while.
The play area was so small there was no map, you had to memorize where everything was. Still not tiny perse, but not nearly as large as other seasonal areas.
I skipped a couple years of Destiny but I kept up with the news and updates about the game. I recently started playing again and this was a fun nostalgia trip and should be great for new/returning players

I remember you, Datto. I played D1 on day one, and went all the way up to D2 where you fought Calus, but found out it was only a robot. Been away for a long while, but when I heard that the next expansion was going to be the last one of the series, I figured I would jump back in to wrap things up. Just redownloaded the game last night.
