@@SusurraSpellshield Move Along Home isn't nearly as bad. It has a coherent, albeit silly, story line that actually makes sense, in spite of being rather infantile. I wasn't a huge fan of "Bev", I actually preferred Pulaski although I get why some don't like her either. I also liked the Wes episodes after season 1, so I'm in the minority already. 'Sub Rosa' originally aired Jan. 31, 1994. Author Anne Rice was white-hot during that period, and was in the middle of publishing her 'Mayfair Witches' series, books 1 and 2 having come out in 1990 and 1993, with book 3 to come out later in 1994. This series (all 3 books of which debuted at number 2 on The New York Times Best Seller List), featured an old Scottish family ghost who romantically haunted the genetically-compatible red-haired women of the Mayfair family, often with... 'climactic' results. I have not seen whether Brannon Braga has commented on this eerily-close, and contemporaneous, plot similarity between this episode and the then-popular Rice books, but fellow episode writer Jeanna F. Gallo, who claims to have come up with the gist of the plot, is reported to have vehemently denied any ties to the Rice story. Uh huh....

I'm totally sure this plot-line was stolen from Anne Rice's novel "The Witching Hour", which was published only 2 years before this episode aired. The similar elements include: an ageless "ghost lover" who's inherited or passed on from a recently dead relative, the candle holder functions like the Mayfair locket that somehow is connected to the spirit Lasher, and even the planet's thunderstorms are like those Lasher summons over the 1st street house when one of the witches dies! What a random thing for them to take inspiration from, lol

@@mconnors1733 It was a decent planet, all they needed to do was crush it from orbit with some fairly large asteroids, killing all the life on the planet, then terraform it with earth life forms... some poison plants may still survive, but they would be eradicated. Add on some Federation weather control stations, and a medium orbital star base - and it's a perfectly good fixer uppper planet. Mars had a colony and it didn't have the nice Earth like atmosphere like EDEN.

In all seriousness - Kirk and other male Federation officers seem pre-occupied with hooking up with alien species ( even spoofed in GALAXY QUEST ! ) ... And Troi has her flings too . . . It's just (literally) a semi-toxic relationship story. Beverly could have spent years with her green ghost boyfriend, eventually killing her, but her grand mother lasted quiet a long time, so no major damage for the short term. Here they are violating the prime directive, The green ghost alien species should have been questioned, helped, returned to his own planet... seemingly lost on Earth a very long time ago ( UFO crash? ) Inventing a chamber to keep him alive in would be an upgrade to a candle.

I completely lose my composure every time I see this episode when Nana pops up from the dead and zaps the shit out of Data and La Forge. How romantic, indeed.

lmao. Amazing. What's worse: this or Threshold from Voyager?

God this was the worst. Only good part is when Crusher's grandmother rises from the grave to zap Geordi and Data

Equating it to fan fic seems a bit generous. It's no Briga-Dune. 🙄 This was less TNG & more WTF.

Beverly's eyes are supposed to turn green. I watch for it, but can never see it.

Only goes up after this episode? Is that foreshadowing or they don't know?

I actually liked it, but not for Beverly . I found the ghostly concept interesting.
