    I think its really good of you to talk about how much the vet costs. Some people might get a guinea pig because they're cute, and not factor in the cost at all. So by letting us know, we understand that they are time and financial commitments too. I am rooting for all of your animals

    Hi Autumn. You can add plain oats to Stardust’s recover food to help with her weight. Throw some into a zippered bag & pound it with a pan until it’s a powder. Blending her pepper & adding it to her feedings is a great way to ensure she’s getting natural vitamin c also. Hoping Rocket heals perfectly & that Stardust continues to be happy & keeps on loving her recovery food.

      Thank you! I need to get a blender for the veggies but for now she’s able to eat most of the pepper and I’ve been supplementing with Childs life vitamin c!

    Rooting for Star! You are right in that she still has a enjoyable quality of life so she needs to hang around as long as her bones will let her. Such a sweet baby! Also, it is so nice seeing you take such good care of her and not giving up like we have seen lesser folks do in the past. You're a great example for all watching.

    I had a rabbit with satin syndrom. She had problems with solid food and at that point i took her to the vet who saw that her back teeth didn’t grow as they should due to them not being able to utilize calcium correctly. So there was essentially nothing to grind down. They were unfortunately worn down to her gums which were red and inflamed. We had to put her to sleep since it was painful for her.

    I hope this doesn’t come off wrong but with stardust not being able to eat hard food, how will that affect her lifespan? Are you going to continue critical care/soft food feedings until she doesn’t want to? How would you (or others) know when it’s time ? ❤

    • @autumngrace.
      @autumngrace.  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No offense taken! That’s essentially my plan, feed her soft foods and keep an eye on her quality of life. Are her teeth so overgrown she can’t eat any hay at all? Does she no longer have an appetite? Does she sleep all day, not move & has to be force-fed just to stay alive? Those would be signs that it’s time to consider euthanasia ❤️

    Hey Autumn! I’ve asked for you’re advice a few times and I was wondering if you have any tips for Guinea pigs to stop chewing bars? Im worried about their teeth. They have plenty of chew toys, hay and get the right amount of food. I’m planing to upgrade there cage to a 5x2 soon so I’m hoping that will help with the issue. If you have any more tips or ideas to stop it please let me know x

    • @autumngrace.
      @autumngrace.  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, no. A lot of mine bar chew and it’s mostly the ones I rescued from small cages or bad situations so I think it may have been a habit they developed then. My pigs I’ve had since they were babies or who’ve always lived in good homes don’t bar chew as much. The only tip I have is to make sure you hand feed over the bars and not through the bars so they don’t associate the bars with food!

    • @jason1987
      @jason1987 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@autumngrace. okay thanks! I did the same, my pigs were in a small cage when I got them, it was small and outside. Thanks for the advice!

    Is the 450$ deposit the price of the surgery? I was surprised by how expensive that is. The surgery here is around 60-120$ for males and for females up to 150$. Vet costs are unfortunately still one of the biggest prohibitive factors why I couldn't own pets. I hope the surgery goes well. You take amazing care of your pigs.

    • @autumngrace.
      @autumngrace.  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s the deposit & most of the cost. I think total it was probably around $530? They have you deposit the low end of the estimate then charge you for additional during pick up. It definitely is unfortunate the cost is so high :( but I’m grateful my vet knows what they’re doing and the surgery went well. Hopefully medical advances will lead to lower surgery costs in the future

    Hi autumn I got a rabbit today he’s a male netherland dwarf but I think we might get his brother as well would they fight and if so what should I do

    • @autumngrace.
      @autumngrace.  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rabbits do need friends so I would recommend getting him a friend. However they need to both be neutered and you need to do a proper bonding, so I would make sure they’re fixed and do research on rabbit bonding

    Sorry to hear not the ideal news for stardust, critical care is not cheap either so can't imagine having to feed full time
    In regards to rocket I honestly think its kind of crappy vets don't factor in aftercare to the cost of a piggies procedure considering they are prone to digestive issues but glad he is recovering well now

    • @autumngrace.
      @autumngrace.  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don’t think that giving here other piggies poop is good tbh.
    The poops that they eat themselves are other kind of poops.
    They are produced in an other way inside them so they have other stuff in it.
    The other poops have not the beneficial things in it. It’s just poop.
    Hope they all do well ❤️

    • @autumngrace.
      @autumngrace.  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m aware they produce different kinds of poop but I’ve seen many people discuss how poop soup has helped them on multiple forums and discussion posts online
