    Strange to think that ‘voice control’ was considered sci-fi in 1975…now it’s so common place in 2023

    • @Kryojenix
      @Kryojenix ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Remember though, that it's set on Skaro past the thousandth year of a neutronic war, so there's two points:
      * It's probably a long time ago in Earth history terms, as the Daleks would've had to have perfected space travel and interstellar or intergalactic exploration by the time they conquer Earth in the 2160s.
      * At their genesis Skaro had been in a thosand year long dirty nuclear war or attrition, so the epochs of the 2 civilisations involved (and maybe other civilisations had existed at the start and been wiped out!?!) had waxed and waned a lot. The Kaleds at this time are desperate and barely surviving and keeping their war effort going - remember the scene with the Kaled gunpowder rifle and the Thal laser rifle at the start of Genesis of the Daleks, which Moffat ripped off by having the Thal crop-duster biplane attacking Kaleds who only had bows and arrows in The Magician's Apprentice?

      @@Kryojenix canonically the Daleks learned space travel due to the First Doctor visiting Skaro. (One of the televised earlier stories covered this long before NuWho)
      My reference was to the real life time frame, trust me when I say that voice control was merely a dream in 1975, it is sort of like when No6 uses a cordless phone in the 60s series The Prisoner and gives a surprised look, now mobile phones are everywhere.

      I never thought it made any sense. it didn’t help they gave a Dalek a Gatling gun and then had it miss so much. People were running down straight corridors and it wasn’t hitting them. It’s never good when an upgrade makes your ultimate killing machine less threatening.
      And I think that was the episode someone ran circles around a Dalek and it couldn’t hit them. It’s been shown in previous episodes though that Daleks can move the weapon part of their body separate to their head and lower part. So it could have just easily killed Dan (I think) who was running around it.
