This is for anyone looking to purchase this chest…I have the same one and although PK expressed some concern with the center socket drawer perhaps not being strong enough to hold a lot of sockets. Unless you have an insane socket set you’ll probably be fine. I have a 166 piece Craftsman set and it only weighs in at a little over 25lbs. The 308 piece Craftsman set comes in at 44.2 lbs. the sliders are rated at 120lbs and the drawers themselves are made of steel; PK also expressed concerns that there is no center support in the middle of the drawer but honestly the sliders would fail before the drawer itself does. You can almost store 3 of the 308 piece sets in this drawer (if they fit), as you’d only be 12lbs over the limit at that point and that’s a heck of a lot of tools for 1 drawer. Great review, PK and a great tool chest, I just think the concerns about the center socket drawer may be unwarranted. Cheers!

Great Videos on the toolbox and Tekton tools. I am finally organizing my setup and definitely looking at using the Kaizen Foam. Nice and Clean. I purchased the same box a few months ago and combined 2 small craftsman roll around tool boxes to 1 Husky Box. Couldn't be happier with the price and quality vs other boxes that were close to the same size. Thanks for the videos and for sharing your setup.

They are both great boxes. I’d say if the hutch is a really big deal then the husky is great but the 52” heavy duty husky might be a little more useful with the drawer sizes. If the hutch isn’t a huge deal then the US General would be awesome and has a nice range of drawer sizes.

Thanks for your review of your Husky roll away. My wife bought me the 52 inch 15 drawer Husky tool Chest for Christmas. I plan to use a Kaizen Foam Storage and looked at your video about how you accomplished the 1/2 in socket drawer .... very nicely done. Like you indicated, I was kind of taken aback by how shallow the drawers are. I am upgrading from an older Craftsman roll away (30 years old) and of course those drawers are considerably deeper. I am looking forward to seeing how you utilized all of the drawers and perhaps capturing some of your good ideas. Thanks

I've spent a lot of money on tools over the years and I have to say that Tekton is definitely one brand that I recommend. Keep on doing your thing and make videos on whatever tickles your fancy. Don't be afraid to try something a little outside of your wheelhouse either. You'll never gain wisdom without new experiences.. Good luck👍

  • @mrnotnomis

I am leaning toward this one also. If I get it, I am going to check to see if a couple of mods might work: First, brace that middle drawer and replace the slides for more capacity. I am thinking some aluminum c-channel across the middle under some foam. I'll also probably replace ALL of the casters with full swivel/lock type, if I can find a matching hole pattern. I am glad to see a video showing this line of Husky. The ones compared in other videos seems to have a lower fit-n-finish than this line, but the prices are about the same. Thanks for the content!

I have the 52" husky 2016 model its built very similar to yours. I can agree on the big drawer extra slides is needed but i still use mine for all my sockets, extra long extentions and hf 1/2 drive breaker bars (3 total). My sockets is the husky 200 piece set thats usually on the seasonal sale around Christmas time and fathers day sale. The socket drawer handles the weight well and doesnt bow any. Just my exp if you wish to use your socket drawers for heavier items.

I'm new to your channel and newly subbed. I'm a few years late to this video, but I just picked up a 36"w x 18"d 12-drawer Husky roll cabinet & top hutch combo. It's not a pro box like yours, just the consumer version with 21 gauge steel. But otherwise, it has a lot of design similarities to yours. It was kind of an "unintentional acquisition" that led me to watching lots of videos about Husky boxes. And I've got to say, I enjoyed your insights and heads-up about potential cons. Cheers from Wisconsin, take care.

It's been in there for 3 years now. The only thing I have noticed is on the heavier items the foam tends to start collapsing after a while. I don't know If some of the South Texas heat has anything to do with it.

I know this is a pretty old video but I have the same Husky boxes and I am a retired auto mechanic and after retiring I got rid of some of my surpluss tools as well as my aging snapon boxes and got yhis husky, that said I use the socket drawer for sockets and have quite a load of them in it because they are all on rails for the most part and range from quarter drive at a mere 3/16ths all the way up to 1-1/2 inch half inch drive (I keep my big 3/4 and 1 inch stuff in the bottom most drawer) and it has no problem and still slides just fine,,,,just don't be leaning on it heavily as your taking tools in and out of it,,,for the price you can't really beat this box.

Congrats on your purchase. Its a nice looking box, although I wont lie. Im not a fan of the budget boxes. It seems fairly weak underneat it, but for me, the drawers and the feel just drives me nuts. I worked with Snapon boxes in the military and have had a Mac setup at home, as a handmedown. I just bought a Matco for under 2k. Its a 57 or 59 inch, 2 bay with a hutch and a few other goodies.
Did you consider a used box? I know that new is new and I had to powerwash my box, and take it ALL apart, and then regrease it (oh, thats gonna upset people with how I grease the rails LOL, but if its good enough for aviation, its good enough for my cars and buses.)

Thanks a lot. It has definitely been life changing and amazing.
It’s a tough decision since there are so many options. For me it comes down to the price range you are looking in. The husky industrial 52” box is great but not as deep as others. The US General 56” is also a very stout box and has great versatility with the drawer sizes. Plus you can add on to the US General over time. If you step up to the next price level then Homak makes some awesome boxes and Tekton’s new line of boxes seem really nice but I don’t have experience with them. Obviously there’s tons of other options, those are just some that I think you get the most bang for you buck.

Thanks for showing this. Been looking at this box for a while. I’d like to see the sand blasting setup as it’s something I’ve always wanted to get into but just haven’t had much space yet. Also, and I know this may sound dumb, but I’m not familiar with the foam product for the drawers. If you could elaborate on that it’d be cool. Thanks! 👍

It’s really a great box, but definitely not for everyone. I’ll see if I can put together something soon on the blasting setup. And not a dumb question at all. It’s kaizen foam which has layers so you can cut through and peel them out. I got it from FastCap.com and I’ll add a link in the description. I’ll also try to put together a video when I cut out the foam for my 1/2” set.

Just bought the 375$ tekton set you reviewed, would like to see some comparison videos with them vs others or some torture testing stuff with them.

Tool boxes are just like the tools you use. You don't need a $7000 tool box. The drawer that is sketchy it just doesn't have the bracing the big brands have. I just got a craftsman 37in chest and top. It does the job and it set me back $560. Its not got the size drawers I would like but it holds everything.

You say (at 4:44) that those shallow drawers have a max height of 1-3/4”, but Husky lists them at 2” on the HD website. I have a Craftsman socket set whose storage drawers are 1-7/8” deep. Wondering if I can fit the drawers in these drawers and close them.

Really disappointing. I'm very glad to have found this video. I wanted this box for all the same reasons as you, but that full-length drawer is a deal-breaker. Thanks for posting.

Love the look of the Husky, but those drawers seam too shallow for my needs. I just purchased a new Craftsman 26 in with the hutch style top. I have 4 now, 3 in my garage and 1 in my basement. Im 68 and have acquired a lot of tools over the years. Some of my craftsman wrenches and sockets are from the 70's.I have got a lot of GEARWRENCH lately, screwdrivers and ratchet wrenches. I would like to see your tool box when you get it all setup.

Exactly. One point I was trying to make in the video is just because someone likes a certain chest, doesn’t mean it’s the right one for you. Craftsman still makes great chests for home use and the price is great. If I were to pick my favorite tool right now it would have to be my gearwrench flex head ratcheting wrenches. They make great tools and those wrenches are probably used more than anything in my garage.

Thanks for the review. It is disappointing that the drawers are so shallow. That doesn't make sense for most guys working in a home garage.

Just wanted to get your 14 month follow up. Are you still liking it, finish still good, etc? I'm waiting for the Matte Blue to become available and with it being $1300 now, wanted to make sure I make a good purchase. Thanks man!

Have you checked out the 52” one they have now for $898? Looks very similar… Do you know how thick the metal is where the casters mount? Hopefully thicker than 18 gauge.
