    I used apple watch for the past 4 years thinking I own fitness watch lol. Switched to forerunner 245 and found out how naive I was. Garmin is a true fitness tracker. No doubt

    Ugh!!! The Apple Watch became my nemesis when I was training for triathlon. It was always lying to me and trying to make me feel too good about myself. I would run a 7:30 mile and it would say I ran a 5:45. I would swim a 1:45/100 yard pace and it would say I was swimming a 1 minute pace. While I would like to think I’m one of the fastest women in the world, it’s just not realistic. I switched to the Garmin Forerunner 945 and have been sadly reminded everyday how much slower I actually am. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

      @Stevestech 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Hey your still faster then the day before right? Keep killing it. You are way faster then me. I just started learning how to swim lol.

    • @imterribee
      @imterribee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Stevestech When it comes to swimming I feel like I get slower each day. I just started swimming in June myself and whenever I feel like I’m getting faster, my coach tells my I’m doing something wrong with my form so I have to fix it which sets me back initially. At least in the long run I may actually get fast. 🤞🏻Good luck on your training!! 🙌🏻

      @@imterribee That was me when I began learning to run last June/July 22 years old at 250 pounds and about 40 percent body fat and not being able to run a block. Once I started being able to run 20+miles a week. I kept getting hurt. Had to adjust my Cadence, stride, foot landing, and started doing more toe strike rather then heel. I was slower, and getting fatigued faster initially but as the weeks progress I am actually getting faster injuring less(Also became Plant Based which I think helped ALOT). Now at 170 and low 20 percent BF, running, cycling, and hopefully swimming(once the pools reopen lol) changed my life. Keep up the awesome work, just subbed to your channel.

      @brandonb.5304 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Really? That's odd because I have a series 4 and it's incredibly accurate. I recently ran the LA marathon and my Apple watch said I ran a 7:49 average and my official time was just a second slower at a 7:50 (timed by the chip in my bib). A second off, and it may be because I started my run on the watch a second too soon, is as accurate as it gets.

    You miss some features of the garmin apparently, Eg set intervals, where you program your intervals beforehand and it start, stops and laps automatically with workout specific metric. This is so cool. You can clear your head, you go at a beep, you stop at a beep, you pause at beep beep, you get the job done. It's like a personal coach on your wrist.

    • @hansfabiankoeger8657
      @hansfabiankoeger8657 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tbh that is Not rly useable. Some Times you want to vary your break by a few seconds. For example if you want to get up the Bill before the next fast section of your run or maybe you just need a few more seconds of rest. Also your very limited in the kind of workout you can do and it just doesnt allow for the small changes you do mid workout.

    • @lewiswatt2597

      This doesn't really work if you're running on a track. Sometimes it will beep 20m before you get to the actual finish line.

    Thank you Zach your conclusion is really good by stating "it depends on what type of person you are." Personally I consider running is a very precious time for me alone whenever I'm running easy days or hard workout days. The less distractions the better. So I even turn off the "Notifications" function of my Garmin 245. When I run, I only run.

      I have a Garmin 25 and it is great it has a 1-month battery even if you do 4, 7 mile runs a week but I want to upgrade and these were the 2 watches I was looking at and I think I am going to stay in the Garmin world. They have the best training guides and resources out there. For some people, it just comes down to name brand and how recognizable it is.

But I do want to let you know (if you don’t already) that if you double tap on the running screen on the Apple Watch it will create a “segment” that really helps during workouts! You can’t see the segments on the watch after they flash up after the tap but you can see them underneath your split times in the activity app on your phone. Hope this helps :)

The metrics and data seen on the running app display can be changed on your iphones activity app. The apple watch might not be as convenient as the garmin, but definitely has more than enough tools to get the job done. I just started running again. I love stats in everything so I felt a garmin would keep me hype, Specially since I should be hitting current prs alot as I get back into shape. I felt bad ab spending 200 on a watch when strava records for free. But the watch is sooo much more accurate AND convenient. Strava had me running a 3:43 mile last week... haha... wtf... anyways Had the watch 3 weeks now, no regrets! Forerunner 235. I do carry my phone tho. So if u want music without a phone carry u might wanna go w the 245 music. It's like $349 tho. Great products! As far as apple watch. I'm sure its good at daily crap if u got an iPhone but I'd p iui ck garmin again 4sure... if u already have the apple watch def give it a try I guess but garmin seems to be killin it... and apparently has been 4 years!

    I have had Garmin watches before, got an iWatch5 for my running but I'm about to buy a Garmin 245. The Garmin does what it's supposed to the iWatch is too fiddly and changing metrics with a touchscreen while running is a pain. No harm having another watch and just using the Garmin for your runs, I think that's what I'll probably do. One plus of the iWatch is no need to take a phone with you as I have the cellular version but for pure running functionality, it's the Garmin every time.

    I use the Garmin 735 and train with a guy who uses the Apple Watch. I can assure you that there are major inconsistencies with our distances. After running a half marathon, the discrepancy was .80 less for the Garmin. Needless to say, I trust the Garmin. The Apple Watch is more of a Swiss Army Knife. With that said, the Apple Watch is an anomaly for serious running. I will also say that heart rates are ambiguous for both devices when compared to Schose monitors.

    One other thing software wise, you have almost no programmability on the Apple Watch where the garmin is fully customizable. This wouldn’t necessarily be a problem except for that Strava’s distance tracker only goes to 1 decimal place, meaning that I wouldn’t have as good of an idea how much further I had to run. Other apps I tried on the Apple Watch had only options for average pace or were set up poorly.

Only complaint is you’re right can’t ever get some different splits for different data and knowledge on myself and my runs such as I wish I could track lap time and it still goes to my total distance and this and that. Also it has only happened a couple times but I’ll run the same route and the time is very skewed from the mile I ran before and I was feeling like my effort was better. But NRC synces will all Apple Watch activity tracker. Hence why it’s the Nike watch

    Apple and the running apps should make some improvements with an update specifically in the running aspect. The apple watch Series 4 44 nm is the only fitness watch I got, and its great measuring, recording and the ecosystem itself, the connection across all my apple devices is just great. Is just matter of some updates if the developers really want to please the running community. I wouldn’t totally give up on this apple watch for such little things that could be improved with updates, because literally when Im without the phone I have everything on the watch, music, I can make calls, audio recording, I can access all my social media just from my wrist with certain apps, have the latest pics I’ve taken from my library in the iphone, calendars, heart rate mesaures, electrocardiograms,and lots of things more. And I can literally record from the workout app any activity I do, as swim, soccer, basketball, jump the rope, run, walk, lift weights, everything.

    I use the Apple Watch Series 4 because it easily put my runs on Starvia and its very comfortable on my wrist. And plus I am a big Apple guy I can't leave be loved Apple Products, but I would get the Garmin for my Track Workouts!!

    Great video and an honest comparison. When I ran more competitively, and for time, Garmin was my go to. Never had to worry about battery or the app crashing. Now that I run just because I love it, the Apple Watch is perfect. I agree if you are doing serious training and different types of workouts, the Apple Watch is not as seamless in operation compared to the Garmin, although it is coming along with each new generation. However, if you can only have one watch and want an all-arounder, the Apple Watch is the way to go.

    Honestly, the apple watch would be perfect in you could actually use both buttons. If you could use the crown for stop/start and then the side button for laps, or you could still use the double-screen tap for laps (I don't sweat that much so it wouldn't be an issue plus it is easier than clicking the side button). They should have a sport lock feature to allow for that because I cannot tell you many time I have, instead of stopping my run clicking both buttons at the same , gone to the homescreen.

    At first I had an Apple Watch and I don’t know it’s just not the same as a garmin. It was uncomfortable (a sports band might be more comfortable tho) and I just forgot to use it sometimes. Once I got my garmin it was so simple and comfortable to use. The physical buttons made it easier to record splits and easier to use in general. If you’re a serious runner definitely go with the garmin. If you run just to stay fit and could use an Apple Watch for everyday use also, go with the Apple Watch.

    Apple is a smart watch that pretend is also a sportwatch while Garmin is reall sportwatch.
    To reasons why Garmin is a way to go for sport activities.
    1. Transflective display. The more the light the more getting brighter the display, which is the most important for outside.
    2. Physical buttons. Outside when you run and move, buttons become your second nature and you press for pause, lap, stop e.t.c. without look in the screen or stop.

    Do you always use GPS for workouts and runs or have you ever used footpods? My Garmin 245 has been pretty accurate for the most part, but I’ve heard connecting footpods are way more accurate and can show other metrics like power

    Tbh I don’t get the Garmin in 2020. On an Apple Watch it takes two clicks to start a run and Apple health syncs perfectly to Strava. Pre-programmed intervals / sessions are one app away. The series 3 is also $100 cheaper and it can do 1000 more things like sleep tracking, reminders, navigation, tracking all kinds of activities etc.. Running watches were definitely better some years ago but it seems they are not even better at running anymore.
