I definitely relate with the anxiety of the Apple Watch. I got rid of mine to always feeling "connected" like if I want to leave my phone somewhere, I technically still have it with me while using an Apple Watch. just got the 245 today for cycling and enjoy it so far

Nice review! Can't believe you guys don't have more subscribers to be honest. As a film guy, loved the aesthetic of the video from the non-staged genuine interviews and b-roll of each device to the music. Subbed~
Glad you enjoyed it, Graham (Chris here). How has the Garmin treated you since the switch? When we made this video I was pretty floored with just how much better Rush's Garmin was. Just no comparison. I still use my Apple watch and curse at it every day.
Stryde The garmin works seamlessly with connect and Stava. I love the simplicity of pressing the button three times and off. The buttons are very positive and easier to use that the touchscreen on the Apple.
I got an Apple Watch before I started getting back into running and have loved it for everyday life. Now that I’m getting back into running I actually like all the fitness notifications. They don’t give me anxiety. I’m able to see a snapshot of my progress over the last 90 days and year and it is really rewarding. Intervals are annoying though.
So true. Intervals is where it starts to lose its edge. OR at stop lights. When it's time to re-start the watch on hot days, it can be a pain. But if you already have one, it's a great option over buying another piece of tech.
Thank you! I’ve been debating which one to get for the past 6 months. I currently have a fitbit but not that I run more often I’m planning on switching to Garmin.
I actually have both, use an apple watch for daily use and a fenix 5s for my runs... the best thing about apple is apple health... everything syncs to one place irrispective of the watch you are using so I have my data gathered in one place. could not do that when I was on android (unless you use a 3rd party app). But I defintely agree that a touch screen only can be a pain especially when you are sweaty, raining or wearing gloves...
That's probably the way to do it. I do like the health features on the apple watch. But it's the worst tool ever for more technical running workouts. And the gloves! The bane of the Apple watch. Ha ha!
@@thegoodrun6130 Yepp totally agree. For a 10km run or 20km without intervals is fine. Once you start including intervals etc it becomes a pain. That's where the Garmin shines, plus data on recovery etc (of course you can use 3rd party services such as runalyze)
I came here to decide if I should switch to garmin, but I keep hearing the same false issues with the Apple Watch.. to put this one to rest: Apple Watch - general > turn off screen shots, then in settings > workout > press to pause. Now you can use the side buttons to start and pause workouts. Yes it still works when you set the water lock mode.
I have been using garmen for about 8 years. I recently bought an Apple Watch for mostly one reason. I can leave my phone behind, simple as that. Garments tracking and metrics are superior without a doubt, although some third party apps on the apple close that gap. I still use my garment for long hikes/mountaineering because the battery is so much better. I should mention my garmen is about 6 years old and still works amazing.
I replaced my Forerunner with an Apple Watch 5. Main reason was ability to make phone calls as noted in the video. However, another great benefit is vastly improved geolocation. It picks up the GPS/etc signal immediately the Garmin could take 5 minutes. Plus, time/distances are far more accurate: no more random 1 minute/km that I got with the Garmin. Also, you CAN use the crown to stop the Apple Watch if you're using the Nike Run Club (NRC) app. If you're going on a long run (25K+) turn off Wifi and Bluetooth (if you're not using it) and you shouldn't have battery problems.
My .02 The Apple watch is a Better all around smart watch but its battery life is 1/3 that of the garmin. Navigating the apple watch is way better on the garmin most functions and settings are multiple button presses away (think old school tube tv menu and you lost the remote so you have to use the buttons on the TV). Functionally these watches can do the same things in terms of activity tracking however if you want more information, graphs, etc garmin is your watch. For me it was all about battery life. I can handle charging once every 7 days with the garmin. Charging the apple watch every night or 2 would become very annoying for me and eventually i would just stop. Both are great options if i could afford it i would buy both. Basically i agree with their opinions 100%
Thanks for your input! I agree with how annoying the battery life. My wife was recently gifted an Apple Watch from her employer and it has been a struggle keeping that thing charged for her!
It’s a great point about the anxiety that the Apple Watch gives you: I can step away from my computer on my desk, leave my ipad on the couch, put my phone in the pocket, but this darn thing on my wrist is the closest it gets to my eyes and ears with all its gadgets, reminders, etc. Sometime less if more and the Garmin I think strikes the right balance - it provides enough information, but not too much. And I am not even talking about running - just regular day to day use.
I turn off all notifications on the watch except messages from my closest family and friends, and the activity notifications... Never experienced that anxiety... You don't _have_ to use every feature, even if you payed for them... Have the thing serve you, not the other way around, so to speak ;P.. Oh and when running (and since I have the screen waking off) I just tap the screen and it quickly gives me the information I need. Oh and a tip: double tapping the screen during a workout marks an interval, so you can be more precise with your measurements. Your complaints are valid... I just wanted to clear a few things up if they may help you or others..
The big killer for me is the touch screen. Even the Garmins that have a touch screen suffer the same problem. Touch screens don't work well, if you are running. I just got the 245 Music and it is awesome.
Yes, totally agree. Touch screens are tough when you’re sweaty and it either hot which doesn’t help or it’s cold and you have clothing over it 😤 I love that watch!
YOU DO can pause your activity on the apple watch with a button. You just press both two buttons at the same time. You only have to make sure you don’t use this option for “screen shot”. You can check your settings
I have apple watch3 to be honest I dont use any app on it, time and recording my activity plus find my phone. battery life is soo bad and I really ofter accidentally stop activity special when I cycling. now looking for new watch. Thinking about garmin forerunner 245 or 745
you forgot about AW battery. But the accuracy of Apple Watch is superior to Garmin... any garmin, and all the health metrics are related to HR so... thats why I am struggling deciding... I own an Apple Watch S5 and S2 and Ive been using it for running since 2017... I love it with NIke Run Club guided runs and specially the WorkOutDoors app... but recently I ve been interested on Fenix 7 and Forerunner 945... the problem is that most reviews acknowledge the inaccuracy of the heart rate sensor of Garmin devices... and this is specially the area in which Apple Watch excels... any comments?
Thanks for the video. Funny that you prefer the look of the apple watch. As someone who collects and loves wearing watches i would find it very difficult to buy an apple watch due it being so profoundly ugly. The garmin doesn’t look so bad to me - no uglier than the gshock i normally wear or another beater.
I had a FR 235 that lasted about that long before the battery started to suffer. Its about all youll get out of a running watch. They do take a beating.
Yeah I wish things would last longer. My experience with a watch like this, especially if you are wearing it every day, takes a beating over time and then it’s time to find a new one.
Shooot! Never thought to talk about battery life. Honestly both are pretty comparable. Both Apple and Garmin watch will last you all day - maybe two without charging if you don't run. GPS and heart rate tracking drain the batteries faster (on both watches) but BOTH have good enough battery that it's not even a feature we thought to include - because its so good and never an issue on either brand.
YEs. The touchscreen on Apple watch is a real nuisance when running. Just went out on cold day with gloves. Nope, can't tap and initiate. Running hard on a split? You want to just reach for your button. Nope, got to do the wrist flick thing *just right!* and then touch the screen for your interval. The GPS is not accurate. I'm totally torn though because the one thing it does awesome? Is play the music and podcasts on those long dull suburban runs. Huge plus.
Awesome thank you! We're working on a brand - the goal is to create the best running gear in the world over time, and we're working on figuring out a way to "grandfather in" our first 500 subscribers into a special list that (if it ever blows up) we can treat to perks and crazy stuff as the brand and channel grows. Happy to count you in as one of the first 500, Dale!
If your garmin is synced to your phone then hold down the top left button (the light button). It’ll open a new menu and then just scroll through with the up and down arrow until to get to the “find my phone” option. Hope that helps!
How about the fact that the Apple watch has pretty crap GPS accuracy compared to Garmin? I just went for a few runs with my Garmin and my new Apple Watch Series 6 and the Garmin kicks the pants off the Apple. Pretty disappointed.
Yeah, garmin is just so reliable! It’s made for running while the Apple Watch is made for an every day lifestyle and not for running. So not nearly as good.
Summary of this is AW is a smart watch first & 245 is a pure runners watch. I have the AW and am due to get the 245 because of the running details, vox & the battery life.
My smart watch is only for running. I've got Samsung Active 2 (touch screen) and I regret it, at least I have a button to pause my runs though. In short, are you a runner? Yes get the Garmin No buy a Seiko, smart watches worn daily increase anxiety you don't need that. Also, ALL smart watches are more ugly than real watches anyway and real watches are obsolete/don't stop working after 3 years
Chris here. It's funny you mention that real watches are obsolete because I've actually been getting REALLY into Automatic Watches. I don't run with them obviously, but like you said they look so much better and the best part is that they have no notifications.
I've found it inconvenient in the middle of a high intensity track workouts. It's a good watch. But not really for runners IMO. I've been an apple watch user for 3 years now and feel it just falls short as a workout tracking tool for athletes.
I use an apple watch at my job for maps while driving the firetruck otherwise it stays off. Garmin much better for running. Dont be a nerd though that wears a Garmin 24/7.

Stryde The garmin works seamlessly with connect and Stava. I love the simplicity of pressing the button three times and off. The buttons are very positive and easier to use that the touchscreen on the Apple.
Love the comparison. I have always used Garmin devices and can’t imagine it any other way. Cool to see some of the pros and cons of both though.
Agreed, Jaydn! Garmin definitely takes the cake for running. Even apple watch fanboys can't deny that. When are we going to do a collab with you!?
As a apple fan would have loved the apple watch but as a runner the 245 is a much better training tool.
Sadly... this is so very true.

But no start/stop and lap splits with an Apple watch. That is the core of a running program.
GPS is much faster on my Garmin VA3M. Maybe about 10s. It takes longer when you use it some 100 kilometers away from your last position

Here’s a question for anyone: can I use this garmin to get alerts thru earbuds while listening to my music from Apple Watch? I don’t take my phone
You would need to have cellular data and as far as I know the watches don’t have that feature
A very big thanks for the video from INDIA. How to use take me home feature in FR245? Never used the feature on my FR245....
When you are in your run, hit the pause button. Scroll down until you see “back to start” and hit that.
I have used both watches in sports, can I say directly that garmin has given a more accurate result for running, walking and swimming
Thnkz for great reviewwwwww
So track workouts stick to garmin and Apple Watch for the rest of the day
