The heat on the tip of the blade to straighten it ruined the temper and the quench would not have hardened it cause it wasn’t at critical temperature. Also the heat to do the quench would travel down the blade and ruin the rest so the whole thing would have to be requenched to get optimal hardness.
I’m pretty sure that your chisel wasn’t designed for scraping rust off a knife. Now you have to re-sharpen your chisel. I would have used a wire brush.
Thanks for using a chisel for the initial clean-up. It drives me nuts when other restorers use a small flathead screwdriver... it takes them freakin' forever to remove the crust LOL.
When your finish with the item that you found and then they clean it but do you do with the item when you're done like that you give it to someone or you just throw it out what do you do with it
No temper left in the blade but looking at the steel quality I doubt it had any to begin with Artificially aged Chinese crap just to make a video and try to dupe people into thinking he’s done a proper job

You did not have to heat the tip to straighten it. By quenching and not tempering, the tip is left brittle.
