that was 10 years ago! dad is tim, in the middle and his daughter sammie, to his left. both girls are just unreal in harmonies and leads and now , ten yrs later, there is another girl. (who just put out an album). toby singing here and guitar.
@@johncarter155 It has always struck me that this song was very much Darwin's project, where most are Tim's. He sings the lead, and I suspect that he also arranged the 4 vocal parts, which sometimes surpass the original 3. This song more than any other established Foxes and Fossils' reputation on TH-cam, so it's fitting that Darwin is back with the band. He's been one of their best assets all along.
Indeed.... as a bass player I noticed that straight away and really appreciated this performance, especially since in the original versions the bass is kinda unclear... I think Stephen's bass might be a bit out of tune.
Jennifer, you should of had that copyrighted, it's all over the place now! How do you like their new videos? "Chase" channel has a brand new one from her if you haven't seen it.
Could not have been better stated. Amazing how many people just 'stumble' on their band, then INSTANTLY subscribe to the channel. There are discussions about doing a live feed concert, maybe with an audience of a few hundred. Hope that comes off as planned........
This is not only the best cover of this song... this is one the best covers of any song...ever! They are on a bar stage with portable sound equipment with televisions on in the background. Those bar patrons are very lucky this is some very high quality music.
Another side note ... Graham Nash sent Tim Purcell (head fossil and father of one of the girls) an email praising this performance very generously. Tim had it framed & autographed. See their Q&A video. I clicked on this video about a year ago for the first time with a very bad attitude; I was prepared to be unimpressed at best. Like you, CSN has been part of my life forever, since my big brother got the album in 1969 when I was 8 years old. I've been listening ever since. I was blown away by F&F. So many beautifully done songs! This remains my favorite. Glad you guys are on board.
I was just about to say....!! Life is getting in their way these days, but it's fun to listen to whatever they have time to do, now and again. So, so, good! S.
That song is massively awesome and the arrangement is not so far off from Neil Young’s, but has such a passionate delivery to it! The backing vocals and instruments totally seal the deal! I would love to hear an original from them to get a glimpse of their soul!
I agree. This was one of their first "new" songs in several years. Maggie's voice has grown richer as she matures, and she takes the wistfulness at the core of the song and amplifies it one hundred fold. You'd have to work hard to convince me she's not actually singing it to someone.
This was the first time the girls, Maggie age 15 and Sammy age16, performed with the band in public. Their dad, the singer in the middle, set up the gig at a little diner, and it was supposed to be a one-time thing for them. He asked a videographer friend of his to record the girls' performance. The rest is history.
They do it damn near effortlessly... they really are more than just awesome. I love the fact that they appear to be good people, wholesome and just regular southern folks.
It is interesting that as of June 2020, this review is number one on this channel in terms of views! On top of that, the number five is also a Foxes and Fossils cover of CSN made years ago. You should be made aware that as of October 2019 this band is active again after a two year hiatus. Their new stuff is top quality studio work and will absolutely blow you away. Their music choices are quite varied and from arrangement to instrumentation to vocals are always spot on. The new covers they have recorded are as good as or better than the originals. They are the best cover band on TH-cam by a long shot! They have a unique ability to make you like even songs that you have never liked!
Thank you so much for reacting to Foxes and Fossils! Great reaction. I’m glad you liked it They aren’t quite a “family band” but there is a father and daughter in the group. Tim Purcell, the handsome guy between the two girls, and his daughter Sami on his left. The other girl is Maggie, they were both 15 at the time. They are a little older than me so I’m guessing 25 now? (I’m 23) Years later, Maggie left and was replaced by a new young singer (15 at that time) who has some serious pipes. She’s on some Cass Elliot stuff. Maggie has recently returned so they now have three “Foxes”. Their recent cover of “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young is sublime. One note, Graham Nash’s sister saw this video and forwarded it to him. He emailed Tim Purcell and said very nice things. No I don’t know them, I’m in California and they’re in Georgia (mostly). I’m just a huge fan girl :) Thanks again for the reaction. You made my week
Zoey. Your a Warning fan also. Am I right? I've always wanted to see a reaction to this. I was floored by this performance. I've suggested it a bunch of times to other reactors. They loved it
Scott LaFleur Yes I’m part of “The Warning Army” lol. However I’ve never suggested F&F before. Never thought about it for some reason. But I’ve been watching them for years. I cried like a loser when Maggie came back ha ha
I'm probably your grandpa's age, also a musician, and I love how this band brings together such a wide range of fans in terms of age. I'm sure you've seen their Q&A video, where the girls represent themselves extremely well. Serious talent all around. This band is entirely about the music, which is what makes this whole multi-generational thing work. If not for that, trust me, we fossils flee young folks without good reason to be around ya's ;) Credit Tim for being an awesome Dad. He clearly loves and respects his girl, and that likely gave Maggie the confidence and comfort that she could also be part of this band. They are family in that respect because the two girls have known one another since childhood in their church community.
Thanks for reviewing this band and song! Fan of F&F since the beginning. Absolutely love them! While the three "Fox" girls, now women, have their ears attuned to current pop and country, they also have a deep regard for the "classics," which is what the Fossils in the band (and many of us fans) love. Finding that common ground between them all is one of their many pluses. That the Fossils can appreciate the songs the girls want to sing says a lot about them. Then there's Tim bringing in some of the challenging quirky things they do like XTC's Senses Working Overtime, and Todd Rundgren's We Gotta Get You A Woman, all of which the girls absolutely nail. Everything they do is terrific.
They're an amazing cover band. I fell for Suite Judy Blue Eyes the first time I heard their rendition. For those of us who are CS&N fans from day one, how can we not just CRY with this awesome tribute!!??
This is my usual, go-to post on all F&F TH-cam videos so I may as well say it here as well too. Any performance by this group is night and day more enjoyable than any of my three wedding nights. (Not that I was to blame, just to be clear!) Theirmusic is better than any anti-depressant. It simply makes you happy.
When I requested this and you guys said you were CSN fans. I was so hoping you would do it. I'm a huge CSN fan also and when I saw this I honestly couldn't believe my ears. So glad you enjoyed this as much (maybe more) than I did. Thank you for doing this for me.
This is one of THE MOST AMAZING cover versions of a song that I think I've heard; certainly in a long long while. Darwin Conort is a fabulous guitarist and nails the Stills vocal and I agree, the bass (Scott King) on this is PERFECT. Maggie, Tim and Sammie's harmonies are joyous and every bit as good as CSN. Graham Nash emailed Tim Purcell to congratulate them on this particular performance and some years later actually signed a printout of the email which is now a framed treasured item. Well done guys for giving Foxes and Fossils some more well deserved exposure in your Helplessly Hoping reaction.
This band is just so good at what they do. Their cover versions of Suite Judy Blue Eyes, Rolling in the Deep and Helplessly Hoping are just exceptional. More so in that they are all performed live.
Been watching this group for many many years. They are fantastic. Everything about this song is great, but I really have to say that the bass player really nailed it here.
Y'all are literally the only ones to react to them, so glad you are, the blonde girl is the lead singers daughter and the other one is a family friend, the girls were only 15 at the time of this video, they have over 2 million views on just this song alone
You two "unhinged reaction" guys are in my wheelhouse. Glad I found you and even more glad you found F&F, who I worship. I'm a fossil (78), ex musician, and CSN devotee. Watching your reaction to F&F makes my day.
I love your reaction exactly at 4:01 when they sing “something inside”. You just exhale an involuntary “ah” or “wow” sound because it suddenly hit the deepest part your soul. The harmony is so incredibly perfect and powerful at that point. To me, that is really the greatest moment in their rendition. That line brings me to tears. And their singing is so spot-on perfect. The “wow” just came out of you. I have the exact same reaction, every single time I watch this cover. They are so incredibly good. What a treasure

I even downloaded it to my Favorites list! I " Love " this cover band " Foxes and Fossils " and every song they do a cover of is " Spot On "! 😎👍👍 🤘
Absolutely love the driving, groovy bass-playing on this track. INCROYABLE! MAGNIFIQUE! And the guitar playing and vocals are beyond aces as well. Great viewer recommendation, so thanks for that! P.S., in Dec. of 2001, my cousin phoned me from an airport in Boston as the original CSN version was slightly audible in the background. Didn't take but 3-4 notes for me to comply with his simple request of naming that tune. Just call me the Human Shazam music app!
Check this new one out they did "California Dreaming" by The Mama's and Papa's. The new girl nails Mama Cass. You can see the girls all grown up. They are planning a live You Tube Concert I heard. Every song they cover is excellent.
Only one rehearsal with all of the band members present...and then they did 19 more songs that evening.Recorded it because they thought it would be their only show. foxesandfossils.com for band history and bios.
@@m.j.l.abulle9107 I'm sure they will make a special announcement on youtube if/when they get the details worked out.Seems to be very enthusiastic response to the idea. No surprise there!
I have always been fascinated at how good their covers are of songs. This is a classic example. I would have to say in several instances I do believe they pull off a better rendition than the original artists. They did harvest Moon by Neil young, in the studio last fall or winter and it is a superior version of the song.I also find their versions of a couple of go-go tunes to also be superior. The two girls in this particular performance Maggie and Sammi, Blend harmonies so well they remind me of the two gals from Abba. Please review several other of their songs as they do a fan Tabula’s job of it
@@jaytomson7052 Found Tim's channel years ago when hardly anyone was watching. Been rooting for them to be recognized for their talent and finally the last year and a half it's happened big time. There's a bunch of us fans on Tim's channel that go thru the comments and answer newer fans questions hoping it leads to them spreading the word and bringing in more fans. The band members do read comments and reply occasionally, but there's some 65 videos with new comments on most of them daily .

Ed, Doug. This video ended up being more popular than I ever thought it would be when I suggested it. I didn't realize Foxes and Fossils had such a huge fan base. Starting to see ads in your videos. Congrats on breaking 1000 subs! 👍
First time I heard this song I was in 7th grade back in 1969. It is to this day still one of my very favorite songs and Foxes & Fossils nails it. This is one of those songs that you cannot not sing too.
7:18 I love how Darwin's just chowin' down on his guitar solo, about to miss his vocal cue, and Tim leans back behind Maggie and gestures to remind him he best be gettin' back on that mic, boy! Darwin's little half-smile as he leans into the mic, so fun! Looks like some genuinely nice folks to hang out with. 😎
Your reaction to this song - one of the very first by my favorite cover band ever - brought tears to my eyes all over again! It is just lovely to see others - especially pros like you - join in the appreciation of a group so many thousands of us have come to know, love, and idolize. Thank you!
Yes, prepare to be amazed! The fossils ARE from that era, mostly, so they do the music well. The foxes ARE adorable, and remind us of our youth, which is part of the attraction. Tim and Sammie are father and daughter, so there is some familial blend there when it comes to their voice timbre and patterns. But Maggie seems almost a duplicate at that age, slightly mellower and deeper timbre, so balances it out. What is astounding between these three vocalists is that they have nearly perfect pitch harmony and that is so apparent in other covers you can hear on YT. Maggie’s voice has gotten more luscious as she has aged into her early twenties. Sammie too, and she could do some of the best pop country whines you can imagine. Why they did not seek to invade the music industry is probably because of personal agendas. And maybe being from the private sector and bringing it forth from there is why we love them even more! Search up “Tim Purcell” to find their YT channel, and be amazed!
I discovered this band I believe on a song search several years ago. I clicked on the song and was intrigued. Hey, I played bass as a local pro in several cover/tribute bands Houston, TX. And it is so very true what was said of the bassist. He is KILLIN it ...throughout!! We have a great scene here where F&F would do great with a developed following. Those teen girls were very disciplined and polished for their age. As time wore on, they blossomed well and their talent was inspired. I wish they were able to keep the raised and larger stage this venue had. Other videos was from what looks to be a family restaurant. And although their talent and discipline deserved grander presentation, they were pro's 100 percent. My biggest KUDOS to the whole band. Thanks for spotlighting this event and band!
As far as the Foxes and Fossils go guys... I the words of BTO, "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet" ! Foxes and Fossils has so much talent. Every individual in that bad will capture your spirit. The ladies are so good with each other and know how to let one lead and they follow, no matter which one leads. Scot King on Bass, is one of my favorites. They all are just the best and my favorite listen to artists of all time.
Tim Purcell is the glue. Every one of the musicians are wonderful: outstanding in there own right. But the ensemble is AMAZING! Tim knows how to record this group on the organic level. They are a TH-cam Phenom from quite a ways back. Glad you are discovering this treasure and helping to increase exposure to very AMAZING talent!
Been following this band for a couple of years now after "discovering" them on the YT. They're outstanding, their harmonies are sublime, their instrument playing is second to none and they're humble. They have another girl, Chase, singing with them now too and she brings more awesomness to the line up. Can't wait for their online concere coming soon. Thanks for showcasing them fellas.

As you could probably tell, we completely and undeniably concur. Hope you're subscribed, thank you for watching 🤘
@@UnhingedReactions You're welcome and thanks for the ❤
Absolutely love the driving, groovy bass-playing on this track. INCROYABLE! MAGNIFIQUE! And the guitar playing and vocals are beyond aces as
well. Great viewer recommendation, so thanks for that! P.S., in Dec. of 2001, my cousin phoned me from an airport in Boston as the original
CSN version was slightly audible in the background. Didn't take but 3-4 notes for me to comply with his simple request of naming that tune.
Just call me the Human Shazam music app!
They show the songs in the best light. Every cover makes the song come more alive somehow... that’s something truly special.
Check this new one out they did "California Dreaming" by The Mama's and Papa's. The new girl nails Mama Cass. You can see the girls all grown up. They are planning a live You Tube Concert I heard. Every song they cover is excellent.
Also :Dedicated To The One I Love by The Mamas & The Papas (Cover) by Foxes and Fossils . She is Mama Cass!
I can’t seem to find California Dreamin’. Do you have a link?
@@speedlever It was actually Monday, Monday they did. It was very good.
Only one rehearsal with all of the band members present...and then they did 19 more songs that evening.Recorded it because they thought it would be their only show. foxesandfossils.com for band history and bios.
I LOVE THEM!! They keep getting better!!!
Lyn we ARE looking forward to their ( U Tube ? ) concert . Do you know when possibly ?
LOVE THIS BAND! I discovered this band about a week ago and I’ve listened to their songs at least 100 times. These guys are fantastic you should check out the other songs like, harvest moon, cover of the mamas and the papas, and the Beach Boys. Its 5 AM and im replying because I can’t sleep lol
Ed, Doug. This video ended up being more popular than I ever thought it would be when I suggested it. I didn't realize Foxes and Fossils had such a huge fan base. Starting to see ads in your videos. Congrats on breaking 1000 subs! 👍
Nearly 25 million views on Tim Purcell's YT channel. They are famous in our living rooms.
First time I heard this song I was in 7th grade back in 1969. It is to this day still one of my very favorite songs and Foxes & Fossils nails it. This is one of those songs that you cannot not sing too.
There is no better CSN cover band in the US or perhaps the world today. That was amazing!
Everything they do is FANTASTIC!!! Tim's done a great job putting this together. Listen to their other songs... INCREDIBLE!!!
Maggie is actually the lead singer in most of their videos. The whole group’s awesome. I bought their CD 💿 and love listening to it.
Your reaction to this song - one of the very first by my favorite cover band ever - brought tears to my eyes all over again! It is just lovely to see others - especially pros like you - join in the appreciation of a group so many thousands of us have come to know, love, and idolize. Thank you!
We thank you for your kind words. Thanks very much for watching! 🤘
So DANG happy to find someone that likes FnF as much as I do. Pure talent!
I damn sure do.
Landslide by "Fossils and Foxes" is EPIC 🎶
Tim Purcell is the glue. Every one of the musicians are wonderful: outstanding in there own right. But the ensemble is AMAZING! Tim knows how to record this group on the organic level. They are a TH-cam Phenom from quite a ways back. Glad you are discovering this treasure and helping to increase exposure to very AMAZING talent!
Foxes and Fossils was/is the greatest cover band I have ever heard. Hate that I never saw them in person.
They are planning a live TH-cam show.
They are performing live in Atlanta I think and then recording it and putting it on as a live concert online.
If you like the Go Go's, or even if you don't, check out F&F's version of Our Lips are Sealed.
Listen to their other songs, specially "When You Say Nothing at All" and "Neon Moon."
Foxes and Fossils is an awesome band. So much talent right there. I've been watching their videos for a few years now, and enjoy them every time I see them.
Best cover of that song that I've ever heard! Outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I stumbled upon Foxes and Fossils a few years ago.....really wish I could see them perform live. They just work well together! Thanks for your review.
Whenever I travel I play this piece. It instantly changes my mood to upbeat as problems simply melt away.
Yes! They are amazing. Watch some of this groups other covers! Amazing musicians all💛
They are a fantastic band. Followed them from Texas for Years.
I’ve been a subscriber to this band for years and I love them. It’s really great to hear other people being blown away similarly. Thanks.
The first line of this song has become something of a descriptor for my life. This is a very fine cover of a fairly complicated song. Well done.
Foxes and Fossils are the best! Love them! Their Mamas and Papas covers are incredible! Thank you!
All these years later and this performance still gives me goose bumps. Great review guys!!! Thanks for doing this song.
You WILL love their "Helplessly Hoping". I mean truly. And I may be a bigger fan of CSN's first album than y'all.
Absolutely true. I have listened to it hundreds of times.
Yes.. that's my personal fave.. "Helplessly Hoping" by Foxes and Fossils.. so good.
@@Anton680x Magically good.
I love F&F. Since you are a fan of CSN's, you might check out the three lovely ladies below, called Suddenly Years Align, who do a stunningly beautiful rendition of "Helplessly Hoping".

Yeah, F&F' s Helplessly Hoping is absolute magic. It's so beautifully sung.
Magical performance! Big guy playing the guitar and singing stage right stole the show. Absolutely amazing!
That's Darwin Conort checkout his lead on "Early Morning Rain" Gordon Lightfoot. One of my favorites!
UNBELIEVABLE COVER.PLAYED LIVE,WITH A FRIGGIN T.V. PLAYING.I'M ALREADY A BIG FAN.
WOW !!! This IS the best cover band I've experienced in many years of listening/playing. ....Just WOW !!!
"Do it justice"??? THEY'RE FANTASTIC! The greatest cover band I've ever heard! Came across them a few years ago and would LOVE to hear them live sometime!
there is none better than foxes & fossils.
Steven Thuss How come they can’t make a living if they’re so good? There’s many cover bands on TH-cam that are as good or better.
I believe they did, as 2 bands, also the mustangs with tim's wife & a few other awesomely talented musicians. watch the video of neon moon.
Steven Thuss That’s not his wife.
Dandy Don, half of your last sentence is correct "There's many cover bands on You Tube" :P
@@dandydon6049 nobody better
I'm glad a viewer shared this great Foxes and Fossils performance, probably one of their most loved! I enourage everyone to watch all of the F&F videos on TH-cam. They're so good, it's hard to stop watching! Unhinged Reactions is an interesting channel. This episode showed up in my TH-cam recommendations, probably because my viewing history has so many F&F videos. I wondered, what in the world is this? I've got to watch and find out!
Thanks for your comment. Keep on watching and Rockin with us!🤘
Foxes & Fossils are a awesome band thank you for giving them more exposure. I actually feel they have gotten better over time like a fine wine.
Fantastic! Omg I love foxes and fossils. Been following then for seven years m I'm glad they're back.
I'm searching TH-cam for a better cover and have yet to find one. In some ways better than the original.

There is no better cover. ....or cover band. Everything Fossils and Foxes covers is done with the utmost skill.
The only competition would be Norah Jones’s cover of “Black Hole Sun” at the Detroit Fox Theater less than a week after Chris Cornell’s final performance (at that same theater) & suicide.
They are great been checking them for 5 yrs now SAMMY I love you.
This band is pretty awesome of all their covers! I'm a fan ❤
Remember its live!

Best dayum performance I've ever heard!
Their performance of "Helplessly Hoping" will bring tears to your eyes.

@@dswil212 Too bad this was all almost a decade ago. They are trying to carry on using technology to "recreate" the garage band since they live in five different states now but...it's not really the same.
