Being an old fart I especially love the line "Don't let the past remind us of what we are now." Everybody changes and hopefully growing and becoming a better human being.
I hear it as "Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now." It means, to me, when you think back on really happy times enjoying your happy memories, dont get down thinking you'll never have those great feelings that you once had when you were young or younger.than you are now. If you get older, I think most everybody does that. You miss those types of great times and feelings you had in life when you were younger, and you realize that things are different now and you are also older and are afraid you'll never get those types of great times and feelings back like you had when you were younger - than you are now. Don't let that happen. Don't give up on yourself being able to continue to be thankful and happy enjoying special moments in your life. That is what this song means to me, anyway. Stephen is saying this (in the song's lyrics) to his ex girlfriend who he misses and wants back in his life.
This is my fave song of all time. Stephen Stills plays just about everything on here (actually, everything) and Crosby and Nash do the harmonies to his lead vocals. Written for Judy Collins. Also: I have wanted to play and sing like Stills since I was 14 - now at 56 I can say that I failed beautifully.
One of the best songs of all time with the perfect lyrics by Stephen and brilliant harmonies by the three of them. I am forever grateful to have had the chance to see them live. The 70’s provided a treasure trove of music like no other decade - CSN being a prominent group of those years. RIP David Crosby.
That bass breakdown is epic. The entire So Far album is a masterpiece. No one can do harmony like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. I stole that album from my dad 20 years ago, and never gave it back.
It puts tears in my eyes and a BIG smile on my face every time this intelligent young man likes a song that I love. Seeing his smile and seeing him move just makes my day EVERY time. Jamal you are the young MAN!
Also, the best short song ever written is called “Just a Song Before I go” by Graham Nash, I saw him perform it live and I wanted to hear it three more times.
the Spanish Meant " How happy it makes me to think of Cuba, the smiles of the Caribbean Sea, Sunny sky has no blood, and how sad that I’m not able to go Oh go, oh go go "
Man, I have loved your reactions for about a year now. Your sincerity shows on your face. From one music lover to another, keep them coming and keep on discovering more great music!
The first time they performed this live was at Woodstock. Along with Neil Young, it was their second gig. All, including Young are in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame twice. Crosby is a natural harmony singer on a wide range of octaves. He blends the higher voice of Nash and the lower voice of Stills. A unique blend. Stills is the lead guitarist, one of the best in my listenning experience. He used to jam with Jimi Hendrix and battles it out with Neil Young in live shows. Nash was on the club circiut in England along with the early Beatles and were friends. All great song writers too! Great Reaction! My suggestion...Wooden Ships and/or Teach Your Children.
Nash was much more than "on the club circuit "he was a founding member of the Hollies ,who sold millions of records featuring the same harmonizing that later flowed into CSN.
You are making this virus problem totally enjoyable. I love music as you do. I feel the joy of growing up in the 70s! I'm glad you are loving the "oldies". It brings a big smile to my heart and soul. Btw, you have the cutest dimples that I've seen. God bless you and yours Jamal.
I'm so happy to be a part of that generation. We didn't have all the techno audio wizardy stuff they use today. No synthesizers, 50 track mixers with punch in/out or auto tune. We just got together (maybe with a cheap tape recorder running) and started playing the tunes and singing them for the world to hear. And some of us got pretty well known for those songs. It was the times and the way everyone felt as though we could change the world by telling our stories through music. And we DID.
Do some Cat Stevens. Father and Son, specifically. Can't do that without being real. It's deep, deep, deep. I'd love to see what you think of that piece.
Fun fact: Stephen Stills auditioned to be in the Monkees. He didn't get the job, but probably to his benefit. I'd love to see you react to some Monkees songs. Last Train to Clarksville, Daydream Believer, even their TV show theme song.
I don't think I have said this on this song with you but this is my parents song as they loved it so much when they were courting. My dad had perfect pitch and sang this to her. This whole album was a "house" album in our house and still is. They have been married for 46 years and still in love. So happy you like it.
All these many years, and there's still never been a song like this. I was mesmerized back in the day hearing it on the radio. And still am. Harmonies, words, pecussion, and it all goes bloody nuts at the end. Magic.
And, these sublimely talented men would replicate this harmony perfectly live.....before they got all pissed at each other. Catch some live vids for your own pleasure.
I saw their first show after Judy Blue Eyes came out. Fillmore East, Friday night, early show. It was their first song, and I think they may have been worried about the reaction they would get. We all clapped and hollered and they jumped around high-fiving each other. Hearing the song brings it all back.
OH...you are so lovely! Thank you so much, for listening to our favorite songs. That you can hear this one time, and give it so much open attention, thank you. It is so much fun, to see you dance, and notice I am making the same exact moves, it's a gift. I was so excited to see your happy face as soon as they sang, "how can you catch the SPARROW? I hug you as my brother for that. Have a great night, everyone....
I just realized that people like you are why we musicians play music....the sheer joy you have in experiencing the songs is what we all hope to receive.....thank you, my kind brother

@@vickiroman189 I am sure that Home free does the version that CSN had in their minds ...
@@DaveyWilliamsPantzNotRequired Probably. But CSN just didn't have Tim!
One of the best songs of all time with the perfect lyrics by Stephen and brilliant harmonies by the three of them. I am forever grateful to have had the chance to see them live. The 70’s provided a treasure trove of music like no other decade - CSN being a prominent group of those years. RIP David Crosby.
I have heard this a million times never gets old. The Harmony’s give me chill bumps.
That bass breakdown is epic. The entire So Far album is a masterpiece. No one can do harmony like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. I stole that album from my dad 20 years ago, and never gave it back.
I would love it if you would please react to “Teach your children” one of my favorite CSN songs
The lyrics just may bring a tear to his eyes 😊
GREAT song 🎶
Captain MufDyven yes I agree with what he said I think anyone can relate to this song
Anita R Swillinger yes I think it might
I love you to see him sit down and watch the whole original Woodstock documentary
Their voices blend perfectly and yet you can hear each of their voices.
Gregg Reeves a brother played bass, it can't be understated how unreal it is, it drives the groove constantly.
Some of the most talented musicians in rock. Timeless - hard to believe its over 50 years old. Sounds as fresh as the day it came out.
Thank you!! I never get tired of listening to this song and I've been listening to it for decades. Peace from SF
The 60s were magical. I'm so happy I was there to see and live it. It was so full of hope and love. Peace to all.
Their harmonies are sublime!!
It puts tears in my eyes and a BIG smile on my face every time this intelligent young man likes a song that I love. Seeing his smile and seeing him move just makes my day EVERY time. Jamal you are the young MAN!
7:27-this was the reaction I was hoping for. Thank you, Jamel.
And, you’re welcome.
This is the song man! One of the all time greatest songs ever recorded. IMHO
"Just a song before i go"
Graham Nash wrote this in an airport for a bloke who didn’t believe he was the N in CSN.
READ G Nash’s memoirs.
Traveling twice the speed of sound it’s easy to get burned
Favorite CSN song
That song still touches me!
Also, the best short song ever written is called “Just a Song Before I go” by Graham Nash, I saw him perform it live and I wanted to hear it three more times.
Several voices that sound like one. Amazing. My era of music. The real deal.
the Spanish Meant " How happy it makes me to think of Cuba,
the smiles of the Caribbean Sea,
Sunny sky has no blood, and how sad that
I’m not able to go
Oh go, oh go go "
Google images of Judy Collins & take a look at those blue eyes. Saw a recent interview with her & Stephen. In their 70's & still very close friends.💙
Judy Collins who has incredible blue eyes is a Great artist herself
Possibly the greatest beauty on stage of that era.
@@jamessweet5341 James ironically when I heard the title for Judy blue eyes I thought it was Sweet Judy blue eyes like your last name LOL.
Man, I have loved your reactions for about a year now. Your sincerity shows on your face. From one music lover to another, keep them coming and keep on discovering more great music!
Some of the best voices in the business.
No way!! At Woodstock? Wow....
One of my favorite songs ever
"Lacy, lilting, lyric
losing love, lamenting
change my life
make it right
be my lady"
Some of my favorite lyrics ever
I agree that alliteration is awesome! Same in Helplessly Hoping.
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes is one of my favorite songs. You should listen to Black Water by the Doobie Brothers for some more excellent harmonies.
Omg such a great song
I believe he already did a reaction to Black Water.
The Doobies played "Black Water" and other classics live on the sitcom "What's Happening." Good times.
Absolutely!
Yeah Cat! Such great songs. Such a great singer. With such great low notes!
One has to try not to dwell on past failures while listening to that song. Deep indeed!!
Yes! Love Cat Stevens
That's another one that will choke you up.
Don't make the man cry! Such a beautiful song!
Fun fact: Stephen Stills auditioned to be in the Monkees. He didn't get the job, but probably to his benefit.
I'd love to see you react to some Monkees songs. Last Train to Clarksville, Daydream Believer, even their TV show theme song.
HE PLAYED WITH NEIL YOUNG AND BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD. CROSBY WAS WITH THE BYRDS, NASH WAS WITH THE HOLLIES. :) HOPE YOU GOT ALL THAT.
Bob Delp you left out Stills was also in Manassas
@@brucetapert9045 What a great band Manassas was! I absolutely love that double album!
Love the Hollies... Their songs have a certain atmosphere.
Magic.
You gotta hear David Crosby's guitar part in 8 Miles High, when he was with the Byrds. It will blow you away
I love the journey you’re on sir! You can’t go wrong with any of the music you’re choosing. Such goodness and positive vibes!!! Stay safe my friend.
"Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now"......
There's a line people should be thinking about these days.
Their song "Long Time Gone" written in the wake of Robert Kennedy's assassination.
Judy Collins said Tuesday mornings were the days she went to therapy, she appreciated Steven's mentioning it.
I've been enjoying this song for 50 years, and I never knew the story behind it. Thanks!
I just realized that people like you are why we musicians play music....the sheer joy you have in experiencing the songs is what we all hope to receive.....thank you, my kind brother
Got to love CSN and CSNY i think its crazy that Stills actually played the guitar, bass and drums on most of this album a very talented guy
If ya dig the harmonizing, listen to Helplessly Hoping.
yep, that is the one
One of the best choruses ever! So sweet, so beautiful.
That one might also be about Judy Collins
Or Southern Cross.
Helplessly Hoping is hands down their best song IMO
For the younger ones, don't miss out on the whole "Four Way Street" Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young live album, it's a gem. Regards
Love that record..
4 way st ..... GREAT ALBUM
@@MrPlooky That was the first album I ever bought!
Gorgeous harmonies, heartfelt, poetic lyrics and marvelous guitar playing and rhythms! Just exceptional.
This is one of the greatest songs ever written. Your reaction made me happy. I NEVER get tired of these harmonies.
