I don't care about cultural norms, I don't care about tradition, I don't care. 12 should not be the age of consent. 12 is a child.

let me explain it further because i'm a Filipino.
Our culture is heavily influenced by mainstream media.
as you see in the videos, even the poor have TV's inside their huts.
TV shows are mainly about family and love teams and love stories.
This is why our girls live hoping to find true love.
I know that sounds funny but that is what's actually happening.
      Men do too.
Although, men can move on pretty easy and leave an impregnated single mother without batting an eye.
      It's not sexual assault.
      Just un-informed.
Religion plays a big role too.

I am also from the PH. I already got dirty looks as soon as I was in 5th grade because I was an early bloomer. It got worse when I grew older. Right now I’m 17 and every time I walked outside, some guys keep checking on me. This time, even if I was home, there are still guys catcalling me because my neighbor is currently renovating their own house and so it is full of construction workers. I hate it. Ok, I know I look a bit beautiful than others but that doesn’t mean that they need to give me such dirty looks. I never wore revealing clothes because of my body shape. I am a bit curvy and got bigger chest and it made me feel conscious because of the country and the men I lived in.

As a Filipino Young adult, I can attest these things happen. My cousing got her first baby when she was 14 years old, she stopped schooling and did not even graduate high school. It's 2021 now, and she now has 5 kids, and a 2nd live in partner, and she is so poor like dont have anything to eat everyday poor, and just asks aunties, and yes us cousins for money.
And with the RH (Reproductive Health) Law still in shambles because of blinded opposition by the pro-life and church, so many are in the shoes of my cousin. When RH Law was during its battle for being a legislation, I remember going to church and always hearing the priests using the homily just to ingrain that RH, contraception etc are sins. And abstinence is the only way. It's so appalling what super fixation on religion, and misguided politics can do to a nation.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a devout Catholic, and a graduate of a Catholic School but to limit options for contraception, family planning, and to say and outright that RH Law and lessons on reproductive health, sexuality lessons are not needed is just idiotic.

Of course, anywhere in the world if you make a documentary about people living in extreme poor conditions like what you showed in the video I'm pretty sure you'll find the same scenario. It disgusts me to know this exists but to be fair, it has nothing to do with the government nor the religion. It mostly relies on how the family has raised their children and of course the living status.

Why wasn't there more of an investigation oh wait because she needs her boyfriend's family because her family abandoned her. people in America complain about the cost of social programs that would support girls like that so that they wouldn't have to live in that scenario but think about how much better off we are for having that option for people and children like her!!! it seems the society sees 12 years old as an adult's and girls which is odd they seem to need an education. 11 to 12 year olds chances of having complications from birth are about 75%. That's not mentioning The increased number of deaths to both child and mother which is substantially large! education is key

S Edwards a lot of the comments are quick to judge people here but it's usually a lack of Education, mixed with girls being told they can't wait to grow up to be in love and to have their prince take care of them kind of thing. the prince reference is definitely kind of Western but it's their equivalent. it's why they can kind of get attacked and then just thinking their mind well I'll make it love. the whole idea of love over there is kind of messed up. So is their way of view in 12 year olds. So is their way of view in 12 year olds as capable of making that kind of decision. but at the same time can't get an HIV test without their parents. Very flawed logic in desperate need of sexual education. if we can get the right program here we as a world have definitely managed to educate other countries about contraceptive I believe we could do the same here!!! spread the love and pass on opportunity to young women!

Because its a fake documentary. Age being 12 might be correct in some way, but the trick those documentary makers do is to leave out information. The age 12 is only okay if the partner is only a few years older. So girl 12, boy 14 is okay but a older boy of course not.
So to speak, the Age of Consent is in reality 18, only with expections that younger couples can have a love life without being criminalized. So, in fact, it is a normal consent law as in many other countries including western countries, over the world.
Its just a documentary trying to make countries worse than they are, from the goverment point of view. The real problem is the catholic church, without them, the situation would be so much different in this country. And of course the economic situation for some people. She joined the family because they can feed her, she can survive. Makes it worse by preventing birth control in especially those group of citizens.

I love the Philippines and my family is obviously there but every time I went there for my holidays. Family members would always say “wag ka muna mag asawa” (don’t get married yet) or they’d say “wag ka muna mag anak” (don’t have a baby yet). It’s like their views on people from abroad are that they’re so liberal and you know.... don’t care about waiting till marriage. But then I see my cousins and nieces have babies at the age of 14. Philippines sees itself so conservative. Yet it’s not really.

As a person living in that country, I'm afraid some people are a bit behind when it comes to morals and proper mindset. Almost everyone here still practices stupid beliefs such as being gay is bad or men/women should act what their gender should, which is just horrible.
The country consists of mostly catholics... Catholics who still practices these horrible beliefs and focuses on this mindset. That's why most of the lgbtq members here are afraid to come out of the closet or that men can't even wear pink, a color that's stereotypically for women.
I'm a Christian but I'm only forced to being one, my family is VERY religious and I'm not old enough to make my own decisions. There's so many messed up things in the bible we read that people blindly follow. I'd want to leave this religion once I got the right age to (18+, in my opinion is the proper age of consent)
I feel bad for these children, they don't know what they're doing and they're the most vulnerable to manipulation and abuse. I'd want to do something about this one day, but for now I'll study.

I am from Croatia. The church is trying its best to make abortion illegal here. They are so disconnected from the real problems of our society... They are moralizing to people about the greed of the young who are emigrating in the foreign lands. When the priest finish their Sunday speeches they drive away from the community of those people in expensive cars. We are not leaving because of greed, but because of the lack of perspective we have here. We are watching the new churches being built in the vanishing villages, while the open minefields lie around forgotten. I think the minefields are waiting for abortion to be banned to. They are waiting for the unwanted, unaborted and then unsupervised children to play there. Good thing that the church they would be Christened in will have enough space to accommodate the entire local community in the luxurious manner...
I think that I should leave. I can't stand the life in the decaying society. I also feel rejected by it.

I mostly stay around the females because I don’t feel safe around the men because they acted so weirdly and I had seen a lot of really like uh.. I can’t even find the words for it but I hope you know what I mean. I was maybe 11 the last time I visited them and I remember how whenever they would play games on their phones they would name them self’s “fuckboys” because I think they thought they sounded cool. The way the houses if the poor families is not suitable; they All sleep in one room, unlike the Rich Filipinos every member of the family have their own bedroom so there is privacy for the parents. The poor have no sense of responsibility, they dont plan for the family; they live on Come what may' or 'bahala na dyan'. These young girls become Baby Factories even if they know they have no means to support their children its all 'come what may'. This happen from generation to generation because there is no Law that forbid them to multiply like vermin. Schools should focus on this problem by teaching self respect, self assertiveness and morality. Politicians turn a blind eye about it. Every big city have squatter areas. If you go to Tondo squatter area its like a competition to have the biggest family. Front Row 22 documentary will show you a family with 22 children and the mother is under 50, she could still get pregnant. Why cant the Senate enforce a Law for parents to be obliged to put their female children as young as 11 to be on the pill like in Sweden to avoid unwanted teenage pregnancies.
