    I am a Drag main and I actually think he's one of the best thought-out fighting game characters ever appearence-wise and that he's very interesting gameplay-wise.
    Unfortunately as of now he's a little bit of a victim of the honesty of his design, because while on paper he has many useful and very good tools, the point is that against a whiff-mindful opponent that can break throws and knows when to press drag is almost always very much neutralized and all of a sudden he's got almost nothing to threaten the opponent with and you weirdly find yourself playing a rushdown character in a defensive way relying only on fundamentals to create opportunities. d2 does not grant sufficient damage for his 50/50 be scary enough for people to duck it and, most importantly, is unsafe enough that can be launched by some members of the cast. Good Kazuyas, for example, are a literal nightmare to deal with. He lacks good comeback lows that lead to actual damage but despite this, he would be on par with the rest of the cast if the recent power creep of most characters had not happened. Right now, the higher you reach in terms of playing level, the harder the character becomes to be successful with independently of your skill level because many mid-tier characters and all high-tier ones are better equipped than Drag in terms of unpredictability. I'm convinced most Drag mains think he's acceptable as he is, but realize he's just been dropping and dropping through the tiers in the last two seasons. Some notable competitive players also agree with this, see jdcr and k-wiss, for example.

    • @amit1240
      @amit1240 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I agree with you. Even I dropped Dragunov due to the same issue you are talking about and on top of that he has no 50-50 and that really hurts. No reliable lows only dependent on opponent mistakes and running 2 is difficult at the near range and easy to sidestep. Hence I mained Kazuya another difficult but overall good character and the main reason was nobody ducks Dragunov.

    • @bbuckets8278
      @bbuckets8278 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fellow drag main. vs Kazuya and other characters with strong 13f punishment, use d3,4. This move is very underutilized and the mid is -11 on block. string guaranteed on ch.
      But yes, your assessment about having to rely on whiff punishment vs better opponents is spot on. There is no mixup, no counterhit launchers.
      This seems to be a beginner focused video anyway if he's even mentioning things like snake edge and 2,1,4 strings

    • @SirXander
      @SirXander 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bbuckets8278 yeah i know about d3,4. but in my experience it does not work that well as a deterrent, you eat a heafty 26 dmg 1,1,2 everytime you finish the string and the subsequent knockdown just starts the oki or 50/50 barrage.

      @@idrisfirdous506 you cant really be passive with dragunov you kinda have to play a very balanced game switching between keepout, whiff punishing and rushdown. if you stay passive and defensive then you are gonna get mixed up and destroyed. Unless you are a legacy player that knows all the matchups, strings and all the right punishes for everything. If you play defensive then i recommend you spend ALOT of time in parctice mode doing punishment training and maximizing your combo damage . Nope because in first it move can be steped, second you can't push this move for one frame, because between f and f shouod be one frame, so ideal input so was about 17 frame, not 15. So yes you can spam it, but it not working if player know matchup, he will stepped or conterhit you.

    Dragunov seems to lack creative play, IMO. I've never seen someone attempt an interesting approach with him. His tools lock his gameplan into a narrow lane without any room for offense you can personalize when you play him.

    • @thoraero
      @thoraero 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same opinion. From what I've seen so far, his offensive is so simple so honest.

    • @SolidSonicTH
      @SolidSonicTH 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thoraero I've heard MainMan say in the past that Dragunov used to be a more diverse character to play. You had to have some technical skill and you didn't need to rely on such a small pool of moves but something changed about him that made him easier but considerably more one-dimensional. There was more room for creativity and critical thinking on what you need to do as a player. I don't know if it was Tekken 7 that made him more shallow or an earlier installment, though.
      At this point the only thing that seems to require mastery is iWR 2, which isn't that hard (double tap forward then hit forward and 2 at the same time; I picked it up fairly quickly because most of the characters I play have a strong WR attack, aside from maybe Miguel). It's on the lower end of the "level up your Tekken" input skills to have.

      @@SolidSonicTH oh I didn't know he got easy execution. No wonder he's doing pretty well in season 1 tournament.
      I main Lee and he alone took all my time.

    • @SolidSonicTH
      @SolidSonicTH 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thoraero I think at one time you also had to be able to do an iWS 4 but I think that's been stripped out of his gameplan with more recent changes.
      *EDIT:* Yeah, it was Tekken 6 (and probably TTT2). I'm watching TMM's video on T6 Drag and you had to be able to follow CH WR 2 with a dash-up iWS 4 in order pick up into a combo. Now it's just d+1, WS 4, which is zero-execution. I guess CH WR 2 leaves them closer to you on hit.
