    Great video. Surprised no comments. This is huge and more people need to see this. I have had too many accidents to count and a couple years ago T Boned a car that pulled right in front of me on my R1200GSW. The bike and car were totaled and I was mostly just banged up thanks in part to full BMW riding (Rally) suit and boots etc. Now these days my neck really hurts, I get migraine headaches all the time and my lower back hurts while riding IF I don't practice proper posture. The main thing that has helped me with proper posture is a very supportive kidney belt that has several elastic panels fastened by velcro. You can tighten from both sides and really cinch it up. I can't ride for an hour without lower back posture and pain issues but with the kidney belt I can knock out 400 mile days in complete comfort and feel rested at the end of the day, not fatigued. And of course compression socks and a lightweight carbon fiber TT helmet. Comfort is key. Reducing fatigue like wind noise and pain goes a long way to making 400 mile days a walk in the park. Also setting up the right ergonomic triangle on the bike by adjusting the seat, foot pegs, and bars is key to the whole posture issue. You simply can't have good posture on certain types of bikes and every bike needs to be set up to suit your exact dimensions.

      GS Riders of Velocity Cycles glad to hear you found relief. I too got a TT helmet but went with the Klim Krios when it came out. Similar weights. Wind noise also a good point. I use ear plugs and can hear music better with them in. If you are interested in natural options for your back let me know as we have some options for you. Ride safe!

    Very informative and necessary for bike riders. My suspicion is that people may breeze right past this type video because 1. There is nothing exciting about it and 2. Correct posture be it on a bike or otherwise is something that is taken for granted, although I'd venture to guess that most people do not have good posture.
    Like you I am a frequent visitor to my chiropractors office and along the way I have come to know that putting ones head back on the shoulders as was talked about in the video is very important and goes a long way in terms of correct posture.
    Correct posture is crucial on the bike as well as all aspects of life but through the course of time I have found that the single biggest thing that one can do while riding a bike is to have constant body movement. This may sound counterintuitive to the known stagnant sitting positions that people take for granted. I ride a BMW GSA and adventure bikes do more readily lend themselves to standing as well as other positions.

    A higher Seat position keeps your shoulders more relaxed, as lower the seat position, as more tensions are on your shoulders. Most people having issues with shoulder pains while riding the bike. Keep the shoulders as much relaxed as possible while riding. Instead of bar raisers get a higher seat if your size allows that regarding foot position touching the ground.

      bikes are like shoes.. everyone needs a different setup to be most comfortable. some shoes just dont work for me. same with bikes. i have long legs and long arms so tall bikes and risers work great for me. but the risers are as much for standing comfort as sitting. honestly thats the main reason i got risers was i had to bend too much when standing. just 1.25" solved it.

    This is great advice. I get lower back pain (after ride spasm) with cruiser. When I push butt back I get better pelvis support at back but that rolls pelvis forward which puts discs under tension and spasms rear back muscles.

      Changing the angle of the seat can make a huge difference. Depending on your bike it might take a custom seat to do it though. Sergeant, Corbin, Russel and others tend to make them where the slope is different depending on your height and preferences. Hope you find a solution that works for you.

    Thanks for the video. Since my lower-back fusion I prefer to ride (adventure-tourer) than drive as I can move more freely and avoid leg cramping etc. I came here wondering if many others experience neck and shoulder pain from riding as I do, even on very short rides. I have improved ergonomics on my 2013 Suzuki Vstrom 650 through changing my seat, raising handle-bars, lowering footpegs and also fitted a Givi windshield for better deflection especially at higher speed. I have been thinking that my helmet may be the root cause as I still get pain and stiffness and am curious to hear from others if they too have experienced this, and any possible recommendations. My current helmet is a Shark evoline 3 Hakka which I love as it has all the really handy features. My only other thought has been to perhaps change my handlebars. Thanks again

      Which helmet are you using? What type of bike do you have? Can you get bar backs for your bike so you have a more proper riding posture? Beyond that my recommendation would be a product we sell called Copaiba softgels. Copaiba comes from a tree in the amazon and works on the endo-cannibinoid system similarly although not exactly as CBD Oil. The primary difference is the speed that it affects the body system which helps with inflammatory response as well as pain. I take it 2 times a day to help me. The price is far less than CBD and its potency is consistent. Send me an email at david@amaysinglife.com if you would like more information.

      Rob Danner I would recommend daily squat exercises. Increasing blood flow to lower regions while also increasing muscle mass will help increase the length of the ride but also keep the comfort higher too.. I’m working on several videos that include stretching as well as exercise on the road and at home that will help.

    Please make a video on the angle, material, shape, style of the custom seat so that it doesn't hurt the back or the butt

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The biggest trick I have learned regarding keeping your low back from hurting is place the front of the seat in the high position and the back of the seat in the low position. This rocks the pelvis back and takes pressure of the vertebrae while at the same time placing more weight on your thighs more eveningly distributing weight. I use the Touratech seat and although the foam is still good, the vinyl has hardened (after 5 years of use - I pulled it from my previous bike) and as a result I added an Airhawk while on long rides then remove when off road.

    • @aMAYSingLife

      super duke is not exactly a "all day ride" type of bike unless you are 20. legs are bent up more. back is leaned over more. best way to help that would be exercise and stretches of your core including all sorts of leg stretches, back bends, etc. the more flexible you can be the longer you will last.

      @aMAYSingLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on the type of off-road helmet that you have that could have put pressure on your upper shoulder muscles. I have the Klim adventure helmet, and it does not cause that issue even at highway speeds. Another solution to help with shoulder pain is to spend time doing numerous types of push-ups, such as wide, narrow straight, in order to work, the shoulder muscles effectively. However, have someone watch you do the push-ups to ensure that you are not “chicken winging “. This is when your shoulder blades pop out as you go down on the push-up. They should not do that and you need to work your back muscles appropriately to ensure that you are not. Doing push-ups like this will strengthen the proper muscles and allow you to ride longer without pain. I routinely would do 500 mile days day after day and found that stretches before as well as push-ups helped increase mileage without pain.

    I have a problem with my throttle hand going numb. Do you have any recommendations from a posture or body positioning perspective to correct this issue?

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Couple things I can think of. Vibration is typically what causes numbness but it could also be blood flow (depends on the bike). Holding your arms in a particular spot for long periods can be tough depending on age etc. if it is just your throttle hand, then likely it is not health related but it is repetitive stress related. Best option short of cruise control is a throttle paddle so you don’t have to squeeze the whole time. Another option depending on the bike is get the pads that wrap around the bar to make it slightly bigger and cushioned. Simon Thomas uses those but I rode his bike and didn’t like them. That’s definitely a per user deal. Last would be what Simon and lisa use on their bikes which is a spring loaded bar type system that makes the handlebar 3 pieces where there is anti vibration flex provided. I don’t know the brand of those but they have a build out article on their website that talks about them (2ridetheworld.com). Now those bars are awesome and I would love to have them. Lastly I use a cream called Deep Blue that is made by dōTERRA (this is what my wife and I sell full disclosure) and that really helps with muscle strain and soreness. However, you really need to do something to correct it because it will give you carpel tunnel if continued over years. Oh one more thing, how much tension is on the throttle.. some throttles are harder to hold back than others. There might be something you can do to your bike to reduce that by upgrading the internal mechanism so it is smoother and not as rigid. Hope that helps!

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some of the pressure placed on your wrist could be due to the bar not allowing a natural hold by your hand. Meaning your wrist is slightly twisted causing long term stress. The bars that Simon uses addresses they as well.

    Need posture info for sports tourers as seated diferently

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The key is to position your seat so more weight is on your thighs rather than just your butt bone. this will extend how long you can ride. in addition, bar backs to allow your back to remain in a straight (not curved forward position) will help reduce fatigue between your shoulder blades (common for sport touring bikes). The bar backs can help with that. Move on the bike... one way is to lean down on the bike and stretch your arms. Place feet on rear pegs so you can rotate your pelvis forward to keep blood flowing everywhere. Only saying do this for short instances but it really does help keep blood moving. Stagnant positioning whether in an office chair or on a bike or in an airplane has similar issues. Blood pooling, numbness, potential for clotting, fatigue.. The more you can find ways to move on your bike the better. Which bike do you have?

    After 10 minutes on my 1150GS I get a twinge and then start getting pain in my upper middle back.. between the shoulder blades. It sucks! I have a sport tourer as well, and I don't seem to get this pain.

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah if you feel that between your shoulder blades, then you definitely need bar backs because that will release the stress in your shoulders allowing you to stop stretching to get to the handlebars.. By stretching you naturally move your back forward but also move your shoulders up to get more reach. By allowing your hands to pull back your shoulders naturally relax.. shoulder blade pain is the worst!

      Couple things that typically do it. Seat shape and angle and rake/height of handlebars. Core exercises really need to be done to strengthen your core so it doesn’t tire as easily. This will help as well. Which bike do you have? A custom seat is likely in order. Most bikes come with lame seats. BMW is notorious for placing comfy showroom seats that wear you out on actual rides. Most other manufacturers do the same.

    • @aMAYSingLife
      @aMAYSingLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Work on core exercises... squats are great for increasing core but also aides you in picking up the bike in the event of a drop. Also helps for standing on the pegs longer if you do off road. By doing strength squats you build up your lower back which will reduce fatigue in sitting position. Your seat may be the problem though. If your seat rolls your hips forward that places pressure on the lower vertebrae. Depending on the bike having something that can roll your hips back to a neutral position will place more weight on your thighs while reducing compression on the back side of your lower discs reducing pain in longer rides. If your bike is a “crotch rocket” you can keep a straight back but will need to work more on flexibility to reduce muscle cramps due to legs being folded up more. So it really is different depending on the bike. Pay attention to how the bike is forcing your body to be and make changes to the bike either in the seat, the pegs, the handlebars to allow your body to be in a more neutral position while riding. That combined with exercise will go a long way to make the ride more comfortable.
