I completely agree with your comments regarding rear seat legroom….it really needs to be prioritized over something like luggage capacity. It’s shocking how many modern large four door sedans have abysmal back seat space.
My tinfoil hat theory is that they purposely do this as part of their "price ladder" strategy to push people to by their mid-sized sedans (ex: E class, A7, 5 series) which have fatter margins. Just a theory though.

Sadly, there is no avant in North America, but old school Quattro 40:60 for S5 is music to my ears. Would that be 8 speed with torque converter? Thomas, would this old school Quattro convince you to buy the new S5?
3 enemies of enthusiast drivers - fake exhaust, capacity buttons, piano black. They are 1/3 of a way there so maybe 2 generations from now they finally understand that everybody hates capacity bullshit and piano black which get scratched just from looking at it. They did such a good job with exterior but ruined this car with pointless screens, piano black, capacity buttons. For the love of god - don't they do the customer surveys?
bmw, mercedes and audi have mutually agreed that they all will do extreme costcutting and make their cars as cheaply as possible for the same retail price. there is no other explonation on why these cars suddenly look trash
Awful update - the front brake calipers look tiny? The whole car looks plasticy cheap! No front S5 badge? Wheels are too flat faced! And no more Torsen “real” Quattro? No thanks - a hard pass!
I think only thing what they managed to improve is the engine and gearbox (dual clutch is always better than boring 8 speed torque convertor) Everything else is awful.
Doing a faux wood plastic instead of piano black would've added $10-20 to the bill of materials but nah gotta maximize profits am I right? - German automakers in 2024
Golf 8 ditched the capacitive buttons and installed normal ones this year, then Audi comes with the exact same capacitive buttons as the initial Golf 8. Like bruh, you can't make this stuff up. That driver door panel is hideous and it hosts a lot of functions, it will take some time to get used to it. Otherwise, the car is nice, I like the look and the tech and the bump in performance. The pricing, however, is another story, it goes into Porsche territory really fast.
Looks SOOOO cheap- I'm keeping my B9 thank you very much- interior looks like it was designed by ChatGPT too. Edit: someone(s) needs to be fired at Audi

Only from the comments of these videos you can realize how disconnected the german car industry is from the people. They recently realized that they can sell less cars but more expensive... it's just so that the number of people who spend 90k for a car in europe is kinda limited... With 90k you're in the Model S Plaid territory...but that's 1000hp
I'm glad I bought my '24 S5 Sportback instead of waiting for the new model. Sadly, there are more negatives than positives with this redesign. Positives: I'll have to see the car in person, but the styling appears nice enough. I don't think Thomas mentioned this, but it looks like they finally offer ventilated seats on the top seat options (24:10). The cup holders are much better. I do like the fully framed windows on the doors as there is some body flex/creaking on my Sportback. Negatives: Putting most functions on the touch screen is a big miss - especially the climate controls. I don't care for the new shift lever nor the capacitive buttons on the steering wheel and door. The increased power output isn't worth the added complexity. Perhaps a minor detail, but they should not have removed the S5 badging from the front grill and front fenders.
It seems like the new A5/S5 has a lot of similar traits to the Acura TLX , similar AWD systems (sh-awd vs quattro ultra) and space utilization (large exterior, compromised passenger space). Will be interesting to see a comparison between the two when the A5/S5 comes out in the states.
Lol the fact that you can hardly tell any difference between the A5 and S5 cracks me up. I mean they’ve never been so drastically different in appearance that it looked like a different car but it was enough to where it felt special and separated. I buy the S5 because I want others to know I made the choice to get the faster and better performing option. It is something you choose to do. What the hell was Audi thinking? I have a 2017 S5 and I think its the best generation.
This seems like a downgrade in every possible criteria. Its worse looking, no quicker, pointlessly complicated, awful interior. What are Audi playing at?
Besides the Quattro Ultra, my comments: 1) Stupid capacitive volume adjustment on the steering wheel: why not classical slider? Or at least capacitive slider. Because now to reduce a lot the sound, you will need to click like crazy this one big button. 2) Too much gloss black. 3) The unit on the driver doors for lights, mirrors looks uncomfortable solution. 4) Agree on lack of diferentiation for the fron A5 S-Line and S5. They look the same. Great review Thomas :)
nothing differentiates these German "luxury" cars from normal cars anymore. they all use cheap plastics, no designs, and just stick a random tablet in there.
AUDIs pricing policy is quite courageous. There is no affordable petrol quick runner. The 265 hp engine is out. And then the second affordable choice one is left with is the 2.0 200 hp diesel. One specs it and arrives at the price of a 6 cylinder diesel 3 series with the same equipment. Even the beemer is some 2k euro cheaper and comes with the electric roof in the price. One can't help but admire AUDIs bravery.
I think I'm warming up to the B10. I was a bit weirded out with the way it looked in the studio but looked pretty good out here. Thanks for the full length reviews on both sedan and avant.
So as a 2021 s4 avant (the tdi 341ps one) owner, this is a car I expected a lot. To go back to petrol mostly. Between lot of capacitive elements, less rear room, less trunk room, loss of loved buttons, gloss black… Is it worth going another 90k… Well no. The positive élément are mostly about refinement which I could find in a used a6 for a fraction of this price. Especially in France there is like another 20k of taxes for co2 émission on it. Even on leasing. Well I hope mine can keep up another 8 year 😂
The decision to drop the coupe is a extremely poor call to make. There is now no coupes available across the entire Audi range forcing Audi coupe enthusiasts to spend their money elsewhere. Very disappointing decision.
S5 in the Netherlands starting from 115k due to taxes 😓 Germany is much better in that respect. New rs3 with options is around 130k btw in Netherlands.
Audi is tired. It shows with this model. Unimaginative, even though there's considerable effort into practicality (not always better, but effort). Merging the A4 and A5 into one model saves costs, serves 2 market segments (maybe 1.5 if there's overlap between A4 and A5 buyers) with 1 body. This is not a positive trend for Audi from a design point of view. May be a net positive in financials for lwering costs and consolidating manifacturing/re-use parts. But, we wait to see where BMW and Merc are going with their comparable models.
The speaker in head rest was my favorite feature! That’s where your turn by turn navigation voice will come from and the passenger hardly hear anything. The AC controls digitally placed is incredible and always on the same position. As for size, he is too tall to fit in any car. Car is incredible and I’m very impressed and exited to see it . His trick question in distinguishing the S A5 vs S5? They are meant to look the same, I actually like what they did with the badge only in the back.
The wheelbase grew quite a bit yet you have less legroom than in the predecessor A4 ? How is that possible ? But this is no exception, ALL new Audi's lack in knee room for some reason. The Q6 has less legroom than the Q4 and the new A6 etron has less legroom than the regular A6 for some reason despite being an EV.
Q. Will Audi's new capacitive door handles be problematic on cold winter storm mornings? It's -30degC with snow/ice covering the car, I sweep the car of snow, then I must take off my gloves to try to open the car?
I like Audi for the body quality and detail solutions. Great review, thank you! Aless there are so many hard nos here, it makes me sad. - pricing not fitted to today's economy - still more touch controls while others move back to physical - no interior space while having a vast exterior - no rear bench release in the trunk - light designs showiness is teen manga
I’m 8 minutes into the video and just came from the video you presented your own S5, you have a passion for Audi, a love hate relationship 😅, I totally relate …and the way you describe the new A5 😊…you’ll get for sure the new one 😅
As a B9 RS5 SB owner, this looks like a downgrade in the interior. I've been keeping an eye out for my next car and honestly I'm not finding anything in the latest generation that appeals to me. I would have hoped they upgraded the B&O sound system in the new generation, but it sounds like it is as lackluster as the B9/9.5 gen. If it wasn't for the fact that the more miles I put on it, the more expensive the repairs get, I would just keep this car.
Hard pass on this, looks like a Ford Fusion. The outgoing generation is one of the best looking cars on the market. I’m a 2024 S5 owner, and when it’s no longer available its value will go through the roof.
Back in a day I owed new 2013 S4 and what a car it used to be… that supercharged v6 paired with dual clutch In 4 years not a single issue with anything. Miss it…
first thing todo after buy: Cover up middle console piano black with alcantara and put on a S5 batch at the front for a couple of bucks. Then this thing ist a gem.
I just can’t believe Audi went in such a wildly different direction than their current car. I understand why from a manufacturer and money side but it’s honestly just a completely different car than the current A/S5 cars. It honestly looks like a Kia inside and out.
@@ZbmwM5 look up a 2025 Kia K5 but your opinion is your opinion as well. If you like the car you like. I personally think it was a terrible direction for Audi to go.
@@Samurai_JackCI the only thing I don’t like is the second screen but I assume that is optional. I think it looks lovely. Maybe a little bit less aggressive than it could be but it’s objectively a nice looking car. Currently in a BMW 340x drive 2023 but will likely be changing back to Audi. Like it or not all manufacturers are leaning into huge screens and tech and dashboards are largely built around that. I do wish manufacturers would make climate controls as standard buttons. My BMW has the same issue….
Everyone cries and says 'the previous model was better' on every single car that comes out, because humans don't like changes. Then in 6 months everyone comments on how amazing the new model is.
And VW wonder why they are about to close 3 manufacturing plants in Germany and destroy 10k jobs. This car is why. Every car the last 5 years is why. Green deal is why.
Another great video. Thanks for sharing. I currently lease the s line q8 etron and I’m thinking about switching back to gas. This one will be on my list to look at.
Audi A7 will be next model in terms of size. Ain't no one buying A7 everyday. A5 is too small for 90% of drivers and passengers. Not that they can't fit in, but the feel for a vehicle like A5 is far from expectation.
Piano black, fancy screens and capacitive buttons does not make a car. It is the technical parts and utility that makes it great. To me they ditch the a4 and a5 and are tring to copy the succes of skoda octavia as a general shape. yes it looks more expensive, more tech , but smaller. good decision? hard to say. sales volume will talk.
I really don't understand why I should see the road marking on the dashboard when I can see it myself?! Ok, I understand that they want to show off their technology, but I would rather prefer to have a beautiful tachometer and speedo reader
By now it’s should be clear for all of us, “piano-black” is 100% cost motivated, actually this whole new modell is a cost saving exercise before going all electronic
Yeah, last S5 was no looker, but for me the B8 facelift is the best looking S5. I think this new one looks "bad" (bad as in, its ok, but not a dreamcar) too, but not as bad as the last one.
A 2014 RS5 was the best looking. But that's from a bygone era of Audi design. This is definitely an improvement. The rounded curves suit the brand much better than all the hard lines in the last generation. Also this interior is a huge step up in terms of quality and material. The last decade of Audi interiors were low rent.
@@iluvhousemuzic I agree, the 2012-2016 generation (B8.5) had something special… the design of that car was just right, nothing overly done, smooth shapes, right proportions, just a beautiful design. At the time, I chose the A5 over the A7 just because of the exterior design (didn't like the somehow squared rear of the A7)
41:30 Natural delay in the throttle? Audi's drive by wire programming is horrid in the B9 S4 and all of that generation Audi cars are the same. The delay does NOT feel natural. The throttle is not linear, you either get a big boost of acceleration or nothing. sometimes you get nothing when adding gradually more throttle, then all of a sudden it shoots forward. its no turbo lag, its throttle delay. a natural throttle programming will perfectly emulate that of a cable actuated throttle body.
Things I'm happy about: Glad Audi has a line-up structure with combustion + electric options, I think it is great and very easy to understand. I love the front end of this vehicle, truly looks like an evolution of the previous gen A5/S5. It is a new architecture and completely new vehicle not just a new body. So happy they brought back flat bottom steering wheels AND the new wheel design looks incredible. Things I'm very upset about: Rear end design, looks like a BMW. There I said it. I know Audi started this tail light trend, but please why couldn't they make it more like the concepts or that outward section more pointy, the round finish at the extremities of the tail light look way too much like a BMW 3 series tail light. Interior design, a major departure from Audi, I would've like to see something more like the ETron GT interior design. The design of that one driver screen is too out of place, it lacks the aesthetic that audi is known for, just looks so out of place.

Not if you drive it and actually use it. The curved screen is really nice. I have also driven in the Q6 e-tron and it's much better than before. But you have to experience it!
so is the exterior. no 6 piston brembo brakes. just trying to cut costs. cant believe they discontinued the legendary S4 for this garbage
Idiotically expensive.
100 percent. In another video Thomas mentioned the 200 HP version with some options reached 80k euros. Is Audi retarded?
In my configurator, a S5 starts at 104000 EUR... Insane.. How much the RS5 will be? From 170000 EUR? More than A8 ? wtf is wrong... And the towing ball is mechanical not electrical like in Skodas....
This is the same for all new cars now. If you criticize this then criticize all

Oh they absolutely do, it's just that the survey results say that people want massive beautiful screens.
Exterior looks like Hyundai, kia or something generic
@@N1ckZThere is no such survey, but such infotainment screens arw cheaper, that's all there is.
bmw, mercedes and audi have mutually agreed that they all will do extreme costcutting and make their cars as cheaply as possible for the same retail price. there is no other explonation on why these cars suddenly look trash
Piano black in the most touched area is such a stupid design choice.
The executives at Audi should be fired. How can you take something so great as A5 and just ruin it completely.
Dear god Audi. Looks like you hired a Subaru designer 😬
pls don't humiliate subaru.
This why the new CEO replaced the Chief Designer...this was his last car...
It kept Torsen Quattro. And it even includes sport diff standard
@@logtec1162I have a 2018 S5 SB and the 8 speed is actually quite good: very fast shifts in manual mode and it's very smooth!
@@Brawler_Johnny
Not true. It has a clutch pack instead of a Torsen center differential.

Edit: someone(s) needs to be fired at Audi

sad but true!
True
I hate the removal of physical buttons, especially they took away those for climate controls.

Good thing they integrated dashboard in the screen 😅
I hate the big button on the door that is basically a lot of buttons. Looks really cheap and lazy.
an honest and truthful Review. You hit the nail on the head with your criticisms and compliments. Thank you.. keep up the good work.
They've always looked the same.
The legend says the current a4 and a5 abruptly gained value after this launch.
This seems like a downgrade in every possible criteria. Its worse looking, no quicker, pointlessly complicated, awful interior. What are Audi playing at?
Besides the Quattro Ultra, my comments:
1) Stupid capacitive volume adjustment on the steering wheel: why not classical slider? Or at least capacitive slider. Because now to reduce a lot the sound, you will need to click like crazy this one big button.
2) Too much gloss black.
3) The unit on the driver doors for lights, mirrors looks uncomfortable solution.
4) Agree on lack of diferentiation for the fron A5 S-Line and S5. They look the same.
Great review Thomas :)
nothing differentiates these German "luxury" cars from normal cars anymore. they all use cheap plastics, no designs, and just stick a random tablet in there.
For me 2018-2020
Was the best era for bmw and Audi modern not too large and looked much better
the gear selector.... wtf
I wonder what the cars of today would look like if engineers got to create it rather than marketing and finance
Audi has lost its course. Audi is the new VW and Porsche is the new Audi. 😢😢😢😢
The rear light bar looks terrible. Door handles are terrible, too. Capacitive nonsense has taken over tactile feel and solidity.
Look up the rear of a Toyota Avalon
What the hell is a single piston floating caliper doing on an S model??? Even the A series has 4 piston monoblock calipers before
just more cost cutting
It has dual pistons. But the braking force should be around the same and there is hybrid system.
@@dnc3861The front caliper is TINY compared to me B9 S5. It looks super cheap!
@@joneill63 yeah it is smaller. Not so nice.
@@dnc3861 single or dual same thing, it’s a floating caliper. Cheap.
Edit: just confirmed it is in fact a SINGLE piston and single piece rotor.
what the hell is going on with new car prices in EU? It's like +50% minimum increase since 2020 and it doesn't stop.
USA models skip the hybrid part on the s5. All S5 have the 60/40 split awd and not ultra. Only the a5 has ultra awd
I think I'm warming up to the B10. I was a bit weirded out with the way it looked in the studio but looked pretty good out here. Thanks for the full length reviews on both sedan and avant.
The German brands are really struggling lately.
No more map on Virtual cockpit. Come on, that was your thing Audi.
New rs3 with options is around 130k btw in Netherlands.
i still don't get why audi went with that new logo design, it just looks so cheap, it looks like a bad knock off
Audi is tired.
They just merged their prices together….
The trend of making room in the range for more SUVs continues
The speaker in head rest was my favorite feature! That’s where your turn by turn navigation voice will come from and the passenger hardly hear anything.
The AC controls digitally placed is incredible and always on the same position.
As for size, he is too tall to fit in any car.
Car is incredible and I’m very impressed and exited to see it .
His trick question in distinguishing the S A5 vs S5? They are meant to look the same, I actually like what they did with the badge only in the back.
2:39 I see a BWM.. no wait.. A Mercedes.. no wait.. you see? There is a BIG problem with this design.. it is NOT AUDI.
The redundancy of the screens made the car look cheaper. Would be okay if screens were in the main info and drivers only.
That door slam sound at 19:20 reminds me of my Duster
Who cares, really?
@@nunogloop3386I do.
It does!
I have a 2023 A4 and there's nothing with this new model that makes me want to change to one.
The fooking dash tablets took half of it😂😢
Excellent review as usual. Maybe they'll give you the front S badge on a monthly subscription??? I'm afraid I'm a bit underwhelmed overall.
Q. Will Audi's new capacitive door handles be problematic on cold winter storm mornings? It's -30degC with snow/ice covering the car, I sweep the car of snow, then I must take off my gloves to try to open the car?
Why would they be more problematic than mechanical handles
I like Audi for the body quality and detail solutions. Great review, thank you!
Aless there are so many hard nos here, it makes me sad.
- pricing not fitted to today's economy
- still more touch controls while others move back to physical
- no interior space while having a vast exterior
- no rear bench release in the trunk
- light designs showiness is teen manga
Glad I ordered the A5 Sportback half a year ago, before the new generation came out.
Piano black, no s badge in the Front, s badge for regular models. Audi is completely destroying their Identity
The v6 is a gem in this day and age
I’m 8 minutes into the video and just came from the video you presented your own S5, you have a passion for Audi, a love hate relationship 😅, I totally relate …and the way you describe the new A5 😊…you’ll get for sure the new one 😅
😎👍
Thank God it has dancing OLED's, that really compensates for the bland design, piano black and the indecent price. That's all we need, I'll take two.
No temperature control for the rear-seat passengers? In my 2017 A4, you can control the temps as well as the blower speed.

Back in a day I owed new 2013 S4 and what a car it used to be… that supercharged v6 paired with dual clutch
In 4 years not a single issue with anything. Miss it…
Side profile is mesmerizing. So clean
first thing todo after buy: Cover up middle console piano black with alcantara and put on a S5 batch at the front for a couple of bucks. Then this thing ist a gem.
The B10 S5 DOES NOT have Quattro Ultra. It's the same torsen system as before.
I just can’t believe Audi went in such a wildly different direction than their current car. I understand why from a manufacturer and money side but it’s honestly just a completely different car than the current A/S5 cars. It honestly looks like a Kia inside and out.
No it doesn’t… it very clearly looks like an evolution of the current cars lol
My BMW has the same issue….
the shape of rear tail lights look just like chinese cars 😂😂😂
previous a5 was way better
This is why I got a '24. I'm taking good care of it and going to keep it forever if Audi is going to start making ugly cars now.

Thank you so much! Please recommend / share our channel and our videos 🙏
So so glad I got my B9 S4, physical buttons and knobs. Just not impressed Audi’s design direction currently
I really don't understand why I should see the road marking on the dashboard when I can see it myself?! Ok, I understand that they want to show off their technology, but I would rather prefer to have a beautiful tachometer and speedo reader
Interesting that wheel size is still expressed in inches, even in metric markets
Thanks for an excellent review, Thomas )
Audi really should have a coupe cabriolet in their range. An Audi cab was always the more glamorous one out of the 3/4 series. Class cabs.
Thank you for real exhaust tips 🤝
Some things can not change: Red label must come back to front grill 🙌 red label only for S/RS models💯
I’m glad Audi and Mercedes are still making good looking cars
By now it’s should be clear for all of us, “piano-black” is 100% cost motivated, actually this whole new modell is a cost saving exercise before going all electronic
Audi came out and said the s5 does not use ultra quattro. Only the a. This generation is so much better looking then the current
Correct s5 has the Torsen awd
Agreed. Much better looking.
I own a 22 S5 and have zero interest in this new generation. Pass.
Things I'm happy about:
Glad Audi has a line-up structure with combustion + electric options, I think it is great and very easy to understand.
I love the front end of this vehicle, truly looks like an evolution of the previous gen A5/S5.
It is a new architecture and completely new vehicle not just a new body.
So happy they brought back flat bottom steering wheels AND the new wheel design looks incredible.
Things I'm very upset about:
Rear end design, looks like a BMW.
Thanks for the feedback!
Audi killed the Quattro Star.
