They can't keep up with the cost base of Chinese and Korean cars. They're cost cutting. May be the death of European mass car production before our eyes. High end cars - Porsche, Ferrari and high trims of Mercedes, BMW etc will continue but the mid and lower end is finished
Audi and VAG in general is in a "Kodak death throw" phase where the gravy train of over priced old tech has finally run dry and they are still selling hard but delivering...poor quality outdated models. Not a time to buy any VAG product as in 5 years they will be out of business.
The German cars have been in this rut before in the early 2000s when they used really cheap parts in their engine bay. Reliability was at an all time low. The problem now is they do not have the time to bounce back as they have stiff competition from Asia.

Nah, the plastic molds and manufacturing isn't the determining factor. It is the electric drivetrain Audi pays dearly. For some reason they need to put in the largest battery pack they can fit (100kWh). Compare to a Model 3 or Y which do fine with almost half the capacity of 60kWh and previous iterations the packs were even smaller at 55kWh. It could be made 10000€ cheaper easily with a smaller pack. I would understand the huge pack for the American market where there are lower taxes and longer distances but for Europe 100kWh only makes sense for the autobahn and sales ppl...
Very disappointing. Outside of the car looks OK I guess. But the interior looks so damn cheap... plastics everywhere, piano blacks and stuff... I tough that is is going to be the ultimate german ev vagon to get but dont even know anymore.

I can afford them and I'm part of the group they market their cars for, but I just don't understand who the buyers are that _actually_ like their design these days, and don't just buy the car as a status symbol. The design feels cheap. It feels plasticy. I like buttons and touch controls feel cheap. A big screen feels cheap, and it's annoying when driving at night. There's too much info on the screens and it's unnecessary. I think my next new car will be a Lexus or something similar. And I'm not even that old, I'm 40. Who the hell wants these thing?!
I appreciate things beyond the badge, such as the way a car drives, and the interior quality (which I rank as the most important aspect of any car). My main gripe with the German automakers is the non-stop cost cutting. As someone who drives a 2023 4-Series, I thought the latest 5-series I sat in recently has a noticeably lower quality interior than my current ride. Then I sat in the new X3 during my recent service appointment....and, holy shit, the accountants went to town on that interior. If they keep up the rampant cost cutting, I'll be looking at a Genesis or Lexus for my next car in a few years. Unlike BMW and VWAG, Toyota and Hyundai have the immense resources to pursue the EV pipe dream without compromising their upmarket offerings.
We are not that much far apart in terms of age, but I am older than you and I agree with you. I love and drive a BMW. My love for the brand started with my father having owned one... I simply continued from there and have been happy until recently. The direction of the German car manufacturers is disturbing to say the least. I have been looking at Lexus for a while now and am definitely interested in acquiring one or two of their cars.
My thoughts exactly. Modern German cars have made cost-cutting their new motto and it is painfully obvious. I would genuinely take a Hyundai or Kia over any new Merc/BMW/Audi. And that's without even considering the price difference.
Doorhandles on the inside have a plastic cover over the place where the lock unlock buttons used to be in the previos models, they just recycled old parts..
Disappointed that the inside of the door doesn’t have any felt lining in the door bins and not the best materials on the door top either. For the price I think it’s unacceptable.
Wow, the interior looks pretty cheap considering the market position of the A6. So much plastic, especially that huge glossy part in the centre, and capacitive buttons..
Please Audi STOP what you're doing! You designed the best interiors in the car market (build quality and usability) but now these new interiors look cheap and the usability is so much worse than before. If you want to kill the german car industry, this is how it's done. And those headlights... I can already imagine when driving in a snowy conditions all the snow will fill those headlight "cups" and then you don't have lights at all. Nicely done 👍
Most premium car buyers are only interested in showing off the badge. Audi know they can charge a fortune for a car that's 80% plastic, and people will still buy it.
Audi, what are you doing?! Premium brand and naked plastic everywhere. With this you will never beat Chinese products with their nice materials available even in 20K cars
Thanks for the video! I agree with you, the touch capacitive buttons make it look and feel cheap. That and the glossy accents. The screens do look futuristic together with the side "mirrors".
I really don‘t get it. Audi had high class interios, especially compared to BMW. Yes, some plastic here and there, but overall, the build-quality has been outstanding. Audi had this awesome climate units with real buttons. They had perfect real steering wheel buttons and volume adjusters. This one button approach suits a standard car but not an Audi. Why those weird decisions? Is it really just to save 1000 EUR production costs?
Just want to say, that I love your videos Thomas. As a car guy myself, I really appreciate a German car guy speaking English. It’s pure enjoyment. Greetings from Denmark
the front face on the original concept (1:13) looks MUCH better... i don't even mind the grill, it's the "wrapped around" wheel air intake makes it much sleek looking. Damn i really was going to upgrade my model 3 for this...
I quite like the exterior - clean, looks like an Audi still but a bit futuristic. The interior however is a big miss with very questionable materials/quality/design choices. Too much gimmicky expensive options (digital mirrors, passenger screen, electric charging flap)…how about a Quality Pack option to get rid of the glossy cheap plastics and capacitive BS🙄
I have the Q6 and the speakers in the headrests are one of the best features Audi introduced. I did road trips with mine to Austria and when the family is asleep, I switch my podcasts to driver headrest so I do not bother anyone. Great fearture
@ yep even navigation commands, and phone calls can be directed towards the driver headrest only. I think the Cadillac Escalade did something similar but not as good as the Audi Q6
I disagree on the illuminated rear logos. I personally find them to look tacky and aftermarket-ish. And to me i would still pick Audi desings over the latest hideous BMWs but the big let down is the cost cutting and usage of cheap materials and screens on the interior
Why does every new Audi interior look so dreary and dystopian? Does Audi think any color other than black is passé, now? Also, there is no way anyone can tell me this cloth covered/hard plastic/glossy black garnished interior is "luxury" while keeping a straight face.
Audi could've perfected the HEV and secured their future financially and continued to make cars that look and feel like the Audis we know. But instead they chased Tesla. Heres hoping the next A3, Q3 and A7 follow a more traditional Audi design and build quality.
Don’t worry This A6 wannabe etron crap replaces nothing The new 2025 A7 with hybrid and ICE engines will replace the current ICE A6 Hope they don’t mess this one too.
Asian competitors such as Acura, Genesis, Mazda, and Lexus are still making premium/luxury vehicles that aren't being cost-cut into oblivion. Sure, they may not have the brand cache and prestige as the German brands, but at least you won't be feeling like you're getting ripped off.
@@thore8978 Okie, well I have not driven the same Audi for 20 years. I have driven everything from Audi 80, A4, S4, TT, and so on. Many of the cars I have gotten people come up to me and tell me my car looks so nice. I would not think anyone would do that if I drove this A6.
Why does Audi insist on this single panel touch button on the steering wheel? It's so cheap and a horrible user experience. Real buttons and touch gestures can be done right, someone should show them an Apple TV remote.
I have bought three Audi’s and really used to love the brand. These new models really don’t appeal to me. I don’t know who their target market is. It’s obvious in Canada / USA their sales are way down based off the amount of marketing and phones calls I get, my only response is “where are your new gas models? You have nothing to sell me” I wish them luck.
They don't know their customers at all because why would I need a charging flap that is motorized? Use that money that was designed to make that for better materials in the cabin.
Jesus...that interior is just terrible for the price, literally unacceptable. I remember 2 generations ago when the C7 gen came out everyone was talking about how great the interior feels...this is the exact opposite. Besides the newer tech the old car was much much better
@@ajeska the bad ones were fired recently. Jozef Kaban (former VW design chief and lead designer of the ID line) and Marc Lichte (designer of the latest generation of Audi vehicles) were let go in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
People will likely laugh at me here. But I have owned Audis before (A5, A3) and this interior is honestly cheaper than my new Tesla Model 3 interior in terms of plastics and materials. Its shocking how far Audi have fallen in terms of interior quality.
Nobody would laugh at you cause Tesla interiors are a level above any new E.V Audi recently revealed, it is obvious for everyone that those cars are just cost cuttings in person
Over engineering on the side mirrors with the image shrink when there is a turn signal is beyond ridiculous. Do people designing cars talk together at Audi? First the fake dual exhaust on S4 diesel and now that? Still piano black, hard plastic on lower part (my 2016 a3 had the matt plastic that was so high quality on center console, and the lower part where soft padded plastic) capacitive button where you rest your hand… I mean, I like that it seems confortable, good to drive, well put together but come on Audi… I don’t care if it is plastic, but at this price point it should be Nice to look and touch
Still haven't changed my mind, Skoda's are currently the VW group luxury brand. Their interiors are essily the best in the market rn (excluding 100k+ € cars)
German auto try cheapening out the material with all this excuse of environmental friendly. While price gouging to maximum Example: recycle fabrics, recycle aluminum, vegan leather, or other made up words. Well, sales look fine.... for a while, but listen here, people doesn't like to be fooled and lie to. Eventually they will switch side, the only difference with car sales, the duration take longer
Looking at the underwhelming interior and the expected brutal depreciation, in this price bracket it needs to really convince you it’s worth it and this doesn’t.
Audi be like: the battery be too expensive, the interior shall compensate. I do not understand why they don't make one with a 60kWh battery, just like on the Model 3 and get 10-20k€ off the price...
They ruined such a legendary car man… first of all they should have made the odd numbers like the 5 and 7 electric and keep the 4 and 6 combustion cuz they are the more legendary series in terms of history Also the concept design was awesome but the one they are producing looks like a fat turtle And who ever is doing the interior design of Audi should be publicly harrased for such an ugly, cheap, and childish design
i love how the sales/stocks from european brand are dumping, not because i hate them. but just so they hopefully realize they chose the wrong direction and have to change drastically on all aspects
I can imagine the charging ports in Finland after the car has been charging over night, 10+ cm of snow and it has slightly melted and then frozen again.
Completely agree with your comments on the rear view screens. In my early fifties it is *really* hard to adjust my vision from distance to close-up quickly. I don’t want to buy a car that only has this type of system. What next, cars with no rear window…?

I feel like Audi starts going downhill with the introduction of the new "A5", "A7", and the models that will come after.
youre not only one! it's all crazy!
The interior is a mess.
The new steering wheel is truely horrible
best way to put it. It's like they had 10 different designers adding stuff and not talking to each other.
Audi E-tron GT is perhaps the most beautiful car that Audi has ever built. They could've just copied that design here too.
I would honestly say it would be both the B8.5 A5 Sportback and 1st gen A7
Good news. If you like the Etron gt you can get one used for half price.
@@AntJoseph_ Nah those are boomer cars
Agreed! The most beautiful
The original A5, especially RS5 is Audi's best looking car. RS6 and R8 are runners up.
Will save this video for tomorrow after work 👌Thanks in advance Thomas.. Really excited for this deep dive.
enjoy m8 !
Audi, what are you doing?! Premium brand and naked plastic everywhere. With this you will never beat Chinese products with their nice materials available even in 20K cars
Quality interior left the chat… central console in a6 c8 much more class and quality.
Like everyone has said, I am staggered by how cheap that interior looks. What has happened to Audi.
Incredible, isnt it?
People are complaining about BMW. Now look at what Audi is doing 🤢
We’ll all be getting MGs as our next cars.
At this point, piano black interiors should be illegal for cars at this price.
Yup
Definitely
Omg. I didn't expect Audi to be so bad
Thanks for the video! I agree with you, the touch capacitive buttons make it look and feel cheap. That and the glossy accents. The screens do look futuristic together with the side "mirrors".
thanks !
I would be shocked if this A6 sells well
why every brand is trying to redesign the Multipla.
As an A6 and A8L owner, this hurts my eyes.
9:09 that door looks really cheap. Hard plastic and cloth.
Hehheh...
feel same...
A4 owner here… it still hurts! 😢
Yeah…
Those seats look like my wife's 2007 Toyota Auris😂
Just want to say, that I love your videos Thomas. As a car guy myself, I really appreciate a German car guy speaking English. It’s pure enjoyment. Greetings from Denmark
mange tak for det, venlig hilsen!
I like the interior, but a lot of galvanized aluminum is gone, I miss that.
Skoda looks much better in design right now.
5m long car with A1 grade quality interior… that should be super cost effective model for Audi.
the front face on the original concept (1:13) looks MUCH better... i don't even mind the grill, it's the "wrapped around" wheel air intake makes it much sleek looking.
Great fearture
interesting! You can control that the sound only comes via the headrest speakers ?
@ yep even navigation commands, and phone calls can be directed towards the driver headrest only. I think the Cadillac Escalade did something similar but not as good as the Audi Q6
I knew it worked for navigating but didnt know u could put the hole sound through it
they figure out new ways to put a lot of expensive electronics that will cost an arm and a leg to replace
@Elixir9 most of the features are optional, Audi adds them because they can be selling points for people that want a car loaded with tech.
Nice looking car, better than the ESUVs in my opinion. Though the previous generation has a better interior.
Audi could've perfected the HEV and secured their future financially and continued to make cars that look and feel like the Audis we know. But instead they chased Tesla. Heres hoping the next A3, Q3 and A7 follow a more traditional Audi design and build quality.
I hate piano black and all the touch screens. I have kept my 2016 A6 TDI just to avoid having to go to all that garbage. GIVE ME BUTTONS!
A quick look made me feel this is a Citroën
As an Audi A6 fan,… they F’ed this one up.
Don’t worry
This A6 wannabe etron crap replaces nothing
The new 2025 A7 with hybrid and ICE engines will replace the current ICE A6
Hope they don’t mess this one too.
This my friends, is what cost cutting looks like… I used to only but new cars, but I’ll go second hand older gen cars going forward.
Asian competitors such as Acura, Genesis, Mazda, and Lexus are still making premium/luxury vehicles that aren't being cost-cut into oblivion. Sure, they may not have the brand cache and prestige as the German brands, but at least you won't be feeling like you're getting ripped off.
Yup,
This is cost cuttings in person
Great review Thomas and Lea. Those gloss black controls on door and steering wheel are a really lousy cost savings.
cheers m8 !
can't wait to see this for sale for 15k in 2-3 years and STILL not buy it, just like the Q4 etron
I have driven Audis for 20 years, and now they want me to drive a vacuum cleaner looking car?
so you are driving a 20 years old audi? :D You are not the customer for audi.
@@thore8978 got to love people who thumbs up their own posts.
@@AndrewTSqDon’t worry
This Wannabe A6 e tron crap replaces nothing

@@AndrewTSq but... I didnt ? :D You also got a like
@@thore8978 Okie, well I have not driven the same Audi for 20 years. I have driven everything from Audi 80, A4, S4, TT, and so on. Many of the cars I have gotten people come up to me and tell me my car looks so nice. I would not think anyone would do that if I drove this A6.
Did Audi not hear piano black is terrible choice for interior trim? And that screen looks like it came out of a GM EV. Sad.
They definitely did as people have been complaining since the introduction of this trend
They just don’t give a damn fck
A5 looks the same inside but cheaper to buy. Still not a fan of the piano black
Audi grills look like cheap plastic
Jesus...that interior is just terrible for the price, literally unacceptable. I remember 2 generations ago when the C7 gen came out everyone was talking about how great the interior feels...this is the exact opposite.
Besides the newer tech the old car was much much better
And I thought fabric and other quirky materials were the domain of compact cars.
OMG VW Group fired all good designers ?????
@@ajeska the bad ones were fired recently. Jozef Kaban (former VW design chief and lead designer of the ID line) and Marc Lichte (designer of the latest generation of Audi vehicles) were let go in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
Looks like a hyundai inside. They make it really difficult to justify the money they ask for this car €90.000. No wonder they having issue.
The interior of the next generation Hyundai Palisade looks far more premium than the new A6.
Thanks god I bought an Audi a4 2021
Audi feels just the same quality as VW now. VW isn’t bad, but what differentiates them now? I don’t understand Audi’s current strategy…
I'm definitely buying an Audi A6 Avan 55 tfsi 2023 year of production up to 25 tkm, I can make offers on TH-cam❤😊
Over engineering on the side mirrors with the image shrink when there is a turn signal is beyond ridiculous.
Do people designing cars talk together at Audi? First the fake dual exhaust on S4 diesel and now that?
Still piano black, hard plastic on lower part (my 2016 a3 had the matt plastic that was so high quality on center console, and the lower part where soft padded plastic) capacitive button where you rest your hand…
I mean, I like that it seems confortable, good to drive, well put together but come on Audi… I don’t care if it is plastic, but at this price point it should be Nice to look and touch
Still haven't changed my mind, Skoda's are currently the VW group luxury brand. Their interiors are essily the best in the market rn (excluding 100k+ € cars)
German auto try cheapening out the material with all this excuse of environmental friendly. While price gouging to maximum
Example: recycle fabrics, recycle aluminum, vegan leather, or other made up words.
The illuminated Audi rings in the back... Looks so cheap, not classy at all.
It looks like a 2010 Hyundai, but it gets worse when you look inside.
Have they hired the designers of the Miele vacuum cleaner?
Wow, it looks like some basic VW model. Did they take inspiration from Skoda Fabia?
They ruined such a legendary car man… first of all they should have made the odd numbers like the 5 and 7 electric and keep the 4 and 6 combustion cuz they are the more legendary series in terms of history
Also the concept design was awesome but the one they are producing looks like a fat turtle
And who ever is doing the interior design of Audi should be publicly harrased for such an ugly, cheap, and childish design
i love how the sales/stocks from european brand are dumping, not because i hate them. but just so they hopefully realize they chose the wrong direction and have to change drastically on all aspects
Yup,
I totally seconds you on that one
Material wise this looks very cheap, 90k euros price is absurd.
10:14 what a rubbish quality of stitching on the steering wheel on the left hand side...jesus...
I can imagine the charging ports in Finland after the car has been charging over night, 10+ cm of snow and it has slightly melted and then frozen again.
Whats up with this shitty piano black everywhere now in auto industry? It's terrible.
Completely agree with your comments on the rear view screens. In my early fifties it is *really* hard to adjust my vision from distance to close-up quickly. I don’t want to buy a car that only has this type of system. What next, cars with no rear window…?
Yeah that’s exactly what happening: th-cam.com/video/_QdZq4YZizw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NELeCcxvXg3x5rWw
Great review as always Thomas. Love how you’re matching your outfit again. Not sure if I like the car in comparison to the older models. Leah did well with the camera. Maybe you can let her do a review one day 😊
cheers m8 !
Why is an electric motor for the charging door a good or necessary idea?
It’s not… the only advantage is that it closes again automatically
@@autogefuehl Oh yes, I suppose Negligent Martin could remove the charger and then walk away without closing the door.
