I honestly want the trashion alley dolls to be a thing. I've always wanted more dolls that aren't human but instead humanoid (Monster High, Novi Stars, Pinky Cooper ect) and I think the concept is really interesting. Plus I really like rats so there's that.
I wonder why anthro dolls haven’t caught on. Is it cause of the furry association? The ones that do get released are often too human-like, imo. Like, Enchantimals are ugly.
i feel like integrity toys would do a potential gaga doll line justice - they pay amazing attention to detail, and their dolls are really good quality.
the Wonder Woman's Star Riders are so cute! It's a shame that Mattel cancelled that idea, because the concept of superhero dolls with the 90's Barbie style with holografic shines and different vibrant colors and textures it's something that makes too attractive to buy.
I feel like those rat dolls would be a perfect doll to spread the message of recycling and the fun of recycling! They could encourage the child (or collector) to make there very own clothing out of recycled stuff for your dolls maybe the rat doll girls are all about saving the planet and love to spread that message I think these dolls should have came out because I think they could have taught an important lesson to collectors and children about the importance of helping our environment and recycling they would have been a great learning tool! 👍
Especially with utilizing packaging to make a reuseable playset that looks like NY Fashion Week but ✨️trash.✨️ Or outfit temples you could cut out and then use to trace on paper and then tape together to make a outfit. There were a lot of opportunities they missed with not releasing this doll line.
In Ray Mona's doc, I believe she asked Rocky Solotoff about dolls made for the Toon Makers pilot and they claimed there was a prototype created and that they gifted the doll (in box packaging) to their granddaughter. So there was supposedly a prototype of a Toon Makers Sailor Moon doll out there, but who knows if it still exists or what it looks like.
That's so mysterious! It's sad to think that she probably didn't survive this long, but maybe she's perfectly preserved in a storage house somewhere awaiting her grand reintroduction.
You should've covered the Mattel Bratz dolls. They made prototypes for what the dolls were gonna look like, and it is SURREAL. These things were so close to being released, but thankfully, the rights went back to MGA.
I legit felt transported to a completely different dimension when I saw those protos. Like I imagined myself as a 9 year old finding them on the shelves. One has to wonder what could've been of Bratz if the rights didn't went back to MGA.
It’s really sad when doll lines with a lot of potential end up being cancelled and unproduced. I wonder what the final versions of the Trashion Alley dolls would’ve looked like if they went into production. Also, I’m still upset to this day that the PCD dolls were cancelled, they were SOO pretty. The Barbie Global Frequency dolls were also really cute! 😭
7:00 I'm the one who dug up the trademark haha, these rats are my special interest! They are 'test shots' but the heads were likely in an earlier stage of production (3D or clay sculpted) which makes them far less likely to have survived (although their designers may still have them, ad toy designers are often known to save their 'babies' from the trash haha, it's how a lot of protos survived to this day! I also eternally hold onto hope that Hasbro picks up this line again lol, especially with Monster High coming back...
10:34 I don't think YIPPEE Yin Yang is her name, I think it's describing the 2 different styles of her 2 outfits - one Western style (you can see the cowboy hat) and one Asian inspired. It's still extremely insensitive to call a fashion style "yin yang" but it's better than that being her name.
I loved Izzzyzzz’s video and I love this one! Happy to watch both it’s kind of like a nice segue 🥰 what a compelling topic also RIP trashion alley I love those 😭 hopefully we’ll see them someday
My favorite story I've heard about Wonder Woman & the Star Riders is that Solara was supposed to be Ice's JLI partner Fire (a green flame-themed heroine), but they were afraid of the metrics of parents saying "here, sweetie, go play with Fire" to their kids. Toy execs are WEIRD sometimes.
Hasbro has so many 'what-ifs' with their released and unreleased fashion doll lines. I would love to see the full versions of the Trashion Alley characters. Side note: I love Stefanie's instagram, and seeing all of the doll lines she's worked on. Those Teen Dream dolls are so pretty!
The 6" 'Fashion Action' dolls Mattel developed for the cancelled Wonder Woman line were repurposed with new costumes in 1995 for a line of toys based on the short-lived Saban cartoon "Tenko and the Guardians of the Magic". There were six dolls in total, as well as a snow leopard and horse that look like they were probably the same recycled Master of the Universe molds they planned to use for WW. I never saw the show, but I found the dolls on clearance at big box store in my hometown that was going out of business, and ended up buying all six because they looked interesting (and were maybe $2-$3 each). For the scale they were impressively well made, with beautiful screening, thickly rooted hair, and basic but decently designed costumes.
A headsculpt for a Trashion Alley doll has been found. I’d have gone more ratlike, but they’re still pretty cute. I find it hard to imagine a world where rat dolls would have caught on though.
Since dolls are your field, I'd love to see a video about various doll/doll line prototypes. I think it'd be interesting learn how they were found along with the difference between the prototype and final product!
I really do love the Wonder Woman dolls, their just enough 80s doll camp that I wished at least Wonder Woman got released for. Sure their just She Ra but DC, I genuinely like a lot of the designs even for the already existing in DC canon characters and the villain was cool and I could imagine what other villains were on the concept art table never to be seen. Sad that they all got destroyed though, but it's cool to see StarLily (now StarBlossom) to survive and be reintroduced
Gaga wanting to have a doll that’s head popped off to show a bloody neck is honestly iconic 16:18 THATS JAPAN?? WHO IN JAPAN DRESSES LIKE A PICNIC TABLE 😭
Looking at the mixfits packaging, I think they were possibly meant to mix different fashion styles/cultures. The word Yipee uses a stereotypical Western font, while Yin Yang is obvious. She seems to be wearing jeans so I think she was supposed to be stereotypical East Asian mixed with Western clothing? Also the trashion alley had so much potential, I wish they were finished. At first I thought their hands and feet are mismatched due to them being factory samples but I think there were meant to be that way since rats have pink feet.
However I think it depends, lost media is usually something that was released or that exists but that it’s “lost”. The Wonder Woman comic about the dolls could be considered lost media if nobody can access the comic books. But anh prototype dolls aren’t lost media as they where never produced and never available to the public.
@@AlvaroIbacacheS Even then, some things that were never released to the public or intended to be, like some pitch pilots and storyboards, are classed as lost media, which I'd put in the same category as prototype dolls. However, these examples generally aren't considered lost media unless there isn't a product tied to them that is publicly available or they differ greatly from the product they are tied to. For me, the question of what counts as lost media is about whether or not something is a piece of media, is very inaccessible (if accessible at all) and if people want to find it. If dolls count as media, then some of them are lost media.
@@AlvaroIbacacheS I think there’s a difference, there’s lost media as in shows and movies and then physical lost media which would be dolls, toys, plushies and comics
@@AlvaroIbacacheS i think prototype dolls that were destroyed or cant be found (like the rat dolls, no way they only made heads..) it is. And although prototypes that were not made are not the same as like, videos we actually lost, since its way easier to lose a video than a physical thing, but they fall under the same..genre?
Do you think that the concept for Mixfits perhaps got recycled into how the Barbie MP3 players had interchangeable plates with different faces and outfits?
The Trashion Alley line was so adorable, I hope more anthropomorphic (and not uncanny) dolls come into the market, because the bizarre and obscure is something people are really into right now, finally!
One doll line I think is interesting but I see no one really discuss is LaTeenaz by Mattel. They were the head sculpts Mattel used when making the prototypes for Monster High and despite having a whole trade showcase, the dolls were never actually released. Again, super weird when the dolls were clearly ready for release but never actually released? The whole gimmick with them seems to be that their box could turn into a playset and Latina culture. Not sure when they would've released though but my bets are on somewhere around 2007-2009.
bratz twisted!!! i watched the video a few years ago but couldnt remember the name, so thanks for including them! they had such a cool look so i wish we had gotten them, if only for a single set of main characters. MGA really does have a treasure trove of unreleased prototypes that wouldve made AMAZING dolls. like besides the gaga dolls, unrelease bratz/bratzillaz, and bratz versions of the moxie girls. i wanna live in THAT world 😭
I'm so sad trashion alley was never made because I would have paid good money for them. I'm charmed by their aesthetic and the articulation looked promising.
as some who loves dolls and dc and is literally obsessed with Dolphin i can't believe I didn't know about Wonder Woman and the Star Riders, so cool ! and yet so sad that they were destroyed, loved the video!
10:24 it's interesting to me how this image shows My Scene Lots of Looks Nia prototype? Perhaps Mixfits idea was later recycled in this line since they came out in 2009
I wanna take a moment to say I genuinely LOVE when TH-camrs credit/shoutout others in their videos. I feel like it keeps the enjoyment (and hyperfixation 😂) going!
Get Real Girls was a FANTASTIC line of dolls sold at Walmart. They had 2 Get Real Boy dolls at Toy Fair in NYC and those two never got produced...and i totally want the surfer dude.. My fave doll is one that looks like Brooke Burns, the Surfer Girl.
I don’t understand how objects don’t fit into the lost media sub genre. I feel like maybe it’s not exactly media, but there’s media that would accompany them and it’s all under lost.
The decision to make Purrsia the villain for the Wonder Woman and the Star Riders line makes zero sense to me. Why make a brand new cat themed villain when they could've literally just used Cheetah, who is already Wonder Woman's #1 arch nemesis, and is already cat themed?? Literally just change Purrsia's colors from purple/black/blue to yellow/red/orange and it would've worked. Purrsia literally has blue cheetah print leggings. I just want to know why they made that decision, lol
Loved this!!! It's so interesting to see what could've been and how the release of one doll line could create an impact on the doll market. And thank you for the shoutout!!! 💜
I would’ve loved the trashion alley dolls as a kid 😢 I remember I used to cut up socks I outgrew to turn into dresses or tops for my dolls. It’s such a cute concept and a shame it never came out, I feel like it would’ve spawned a bunch of little up-cyclers.
thanks for uploading, i love videos like this !!! ~ the celeb doll portion of the video got me thinking - how has nicki minaj never pursued a doll line?? its kinda crazy lowkey, those things wouldve flown off the shelves in 2012/2013 during her pop era
I love Izzzys' work and I love your work. It's always fun to have similar videos to compare and add on to your thoughts and perspectives side by side. 😄
I love the video, very informative and thoroughly researched. I do know of one cancelled celebrity doll no one ever seems to mention. It's a Shakira doll with barbie proportions by a now defunct company titled "Kidz at Heart" I believe. Prototypes of the dolls were made and I believe shown at toy fair so long ago.
Would've like if you made a video abt absure giochi petriozi anime dolls... they made some pichi pichi pitch, Tokyo mew mew and sailor moon ones.... they even made some European exclusive winx dolls and it will be nice to see someone giving attantion to them...
The Sailor Moon concept is a lot like Power Rangers, mixing live action tapes in America spliced with other scenes. Wonder if that's where they got the idea haha!
the patent schematic at 10:22 must have been repurposed for the "lots of looks" my scene collection! the faceplates, the pigtail headbands, the molded top and the click platform heels are all used in that collection
Wow I just got back into PCD like a week ago and was just thinking about how I would've loved dolls of them as a kid. My mom was super against Bratz or any dolls she thought were a "bad influence", but if the PCD dolls had been a thing I would've wanted them so bad. Thanks for letting me know we almost had them!
Wish the Global Frequency line had become a thing! What a cool concept. Mattel should at least remake the Dolls of the World line with Made to Move articulation. But, leave it to Mattel to ruin their own creation 😒 The Trashion Alley would have been cool, too. Perhaps give them flocked bodies to represent fur, and made them fully articulate
the trash alley/ trash jon rat dolls would have been so interesting! maybe should have make them look more like cute cartoonish rats / rather than anthropomorphic human like rats lol
You're labeling it right, dolls can become lost despite being physical media, and expample of this being VHS and game cartridges cuz yes pirating and or having a rom is one thing but actually owning it is another
One thing I wonder about is certain unreleased characters that got dolls: The Barbie Fairytopia Jewel Dolls. They were made to promote the Fairytopia movie after the first (one of the features on the disc described them as appearing in the next movie), but the concept was dropped in favor of Barbie Fairytopia: Mermaidia (which is a GREAT movie, but I wish I could've seen the jewel fairies in action too).
I would love a part 2 of this! I also saw another comment saying comparing prototypes to the final product I think that’d be a really cool idea too keep up the great work!!
Your theory about the reason why the first wave of SM dolls looked I can see being real. It makes so much sense. Also I remember coming across a SM car, not the cycle but an f-ing Barbie lookalike car. Which is probably another prototype thing cause Victoria was initially going to be 15 or 16 so she would likely have or get a drivers license while Serena/Usagi is no where old enough for that especially in the Japanese version where the legal driving age is 18 (likely why Mamoru was aged up in the anime since he’s got a motorcycle and car) so a toy car makes no sense. Also no I didn’t buy it. I was allowed to choose only one accessory toy for my Sailor Moon doll and I had picked the bed.
I'm really happy you released this video because you are very knowledgeable about dolls, so, honestly, Izzy's video made me think of you! And you are not covering the exact same stuff, so anyone accusing you of being a copycat should stop~
Thanks so much for making! I love these videos, the ice burg tier sent me down memory lane with the Zodiac girlz website and I had to get my own zodiac sign as a doll of course! ❤
wild timing with you and Izzyxzz's she just posted a vid about lost fashion doll lines a couple days ago and trashion alley was also mentioned! lots of love for trashion alley this week lol
The images used for the 'Mixfits' for the 'patent' is literally pictures of My Scene 'Lots of Looks' Nia. Either some wires were crossed or somebody got bad information. Unless of course they planned to re-use the concept for this new set of dolls
@@DarlingDollz In that case, I hope it's a concept that gets used again because I have the Lots of Looks dolls and despite a few seams here and there, they're a lot of fun

Yay! I was hoping you would talk about bratz twisted. You should have talked about the mattel bratz too, since we did get new images of them earlier this year
OMG. I thought I was the only one who remembered the Jewel Riders! I had the VHS tapes, a few of the dolls, and a horse I think? I'd love to see someone revive the brand someday and hopefully flourish.
Other than the Get Real Girls (boys) I also wanted the 4 Barbie dolls that were never made, but seem to be replaced by Generation Girls. I can't recall the name, but the African-American girl was so amazing and her dress too..i think they were in the pamphlet that came with the Very Velvet Barbie and friends. Do you recall these? EDIT: Found it: Really Rad Barbie, Christie, Teresa, and Kira?
Those Barbie Fashion Packs from the Fashion Fever era that are so 'Bratz Like' and were Never realiced , and You could Say that Becky (Barbie's friend from the 60's) was a lost doll ,we only knew the prototype in a catalog, but after like 30 years they finally realiced her for Barbie's 50th aniversary
7:18 I think if I was in charge of Hasbro I would tell the team to do Cybertron themed dolls but I don't know much about dolls so that might be a bad idea.
The irony of Lady Gaga leaving MGA to go to Mattel and release a MONSTER HIGH doll is not lost on me. She said "Oh you wanna be petty???"
“Oh y’all wanted a twist?”

F in the chat for trashion alley...
😔

Very informational video! I hate when I have a video idea and a bigger TH-camr releases that idea sooner and gets the benefits… but that’s TH-cam.
oh my gosh, that is the campiest panther I’ve ever seen and I love her😂😂 4:11
I also would have LOVED that Wonder Woman line of dolls and that kind of Saturday morning show!
The cancelled dolls from Forces of Destiny live rent free in my head. I would kill for them to exist.
I love your voice! Thank you for putting in so much work to your videos🫶🏻
So glad you released this video! Actually learned about a few cancelled lines I had never heard of.
Oh to live in a world where Trashion Alley was released, I love them and their concept so much, it's so different and refreshing
Would've like if you made a video abt absure giochi petriozi anime dolls... they made some pichi pichi pitch, Tokyo mew mew and sailor moon ones.... they even made some European exclusive winx dolls and it will be nice to see someone giving attantion to them...
I never knew half of these even existed! i wish hasbro would've given those fashion rats a chance :'(
The Sailor Moon concept is a lot like Power Rangers, mixing live action tapes in America spliced with other scenes.
But, leave it to Mattel to ruin their own creation 😒
The Trashion Alley would have been cool, too. Perhaps give them flocked bodies to represent fur, and made them fully articulate
the trash alley/ trash jon rat dolls would have been so interesting! maybe should have make them look more like cute cartoonish rats / rather than anthropomorphic human like rats lol
You're labeling it right, dolls can become lost despite being physical media, and expample of this being VHS and game cartridges cuz yes pirating and or having a rom is one thing but actually owning it is another
Also!! I don't know if this applies for fasion dolls but i do know that sometimes prototypes can be destroyed and or sold off
One thing I wonder about is certain unreleased characters that got dolls: The Barbie Fairytopia Jewel Dolls. They were made to promote the Fairytopia movie after the first (one of the features on the disc described them as appearing in the next movie), but the concept was dropped in favor of Barbie Fairytopia: Mermaidia (which is a GREAT movie, but I wish I could've seen the jewel fairies in action too).
I can understand why the Trashion Alley dolls never got off the ground, but oh my god, I wish they had!
I would love a part 2 of this! I also saw another comment saying comparing prototypes to the final product I think that’d be a really cool idea too keep up the great work!!
There’s only one trashion alley doll head ever found and some girl on TH-cam has it
Your theory about the reason why the first wave of SM dolls looked I can see being real.
It's not controversial at all! A lot of these lines Iknew about and mourned them not showing up. Dolls are art
I wonder if the Super hero dolls were manufactured by mattell. Their head molds sort of resembled Barbie and her friend's.
I'm really happy you released this video because you are very knowledgeable about dolls, so, honestly, Izzy's video made me think of you! And you are not covering the exact same stuff, so anyone accusing you of being a copycat should stop~
I want DOLPHIN now!
Ngl, I would've loved Wonder Woman and the Star Chasers as a kid. I also weep for the lost Lady Gaga dolls.
Thanks so much for making! I love these videos, the ice burg tier sent me down memory lane with the Zodiac girlz website and I had to get my own zodiac sign as a doll of course! ❤
What if Trashion Alley doll heads looked like Angelina Ballerina?
my childhood memories are coming back make it stop-
THIS SHIRT IS SOOO CUTE !!! I love this new set as well, its so fun to look at
I love your channel. You really are my emotional support ytber and you have made my week w this update 💕
wild timing with you and Izzyxzz's she just posted a vid about lost fashion doll lines a couple days ago and trashion alley was also mentioned! lots of love for trashion alley this week lol
saban's sailor moon (pilot) is still serving mysteries after all these years...would like to see the toys! thank you for covering this aspect
Love the mention of OG dc superhero girls, i loved that show and the dolls, so sad it got replaced.
The images used for the 'Mixfits' for the 'patent' is literally pictures of My Scene 'Lots of Looks' Nia. Either some wires were crossed or somebody got bad information. Unless of course they planned to re-use the concept for this new set of dolls
The patent was just for the mechanics and packaging, not the design, so it's likely they just reused it for My Scene
@@DarlingDollz In that case, I hope it's a concept that gets used again because I have the Lots of Looks dolls and despite a few seams here and there, they're a lot of fun
*obsessed* with your little strawberry shirt!! So cute!!
Ngl I’d love if you did more unreleased doll lines as a topic since I find it so fascinating and you even went into more doll lines I had never even heard of. Keep up the great work~❤
Darling dolls is the best doll chanel, every time i get notification for new videos i stop doing what i am doing and start watching!
Yay! I was hoping you would talk about bratz twisted. You should have talked about the mattel bratz too, since we did get new images of them earlier this year
Thank you for sharing these dolls- a little dissapointed that some if them were never realeased
oooo great timing with izzzyzzz's video :) i am craving more obscure doll content
I am beyond furious that trashion alley is not a thing. THE LITTLE GRANDMA STRAWBERRY CANDY WRAPPER SHOES
EDIT: Found it: Really Rad Barbie, Christie, Teresa, and Kira?
just dropping in to say you're one of my fav channels and I hope you keep doing what you do!
i LOVED Teen Trends, but my rocker-girl got sticky-body over time...why, Mattel, why did you use that bad plastic on a work of art!?
I like Izzy's videos a lot, but your videos are great aswell, so I'm glad you uploaded about this topic anyway
Those Barbie Fashion Packs from the Fashion Fever era that are so 'Bratz Like' and were Never realiced , and You could Say that Becky (Barbie's friend from the 60's) was a lost doll ,we only knew the prototype in a catalog, but after like 30 years they finally realiced her for Barbie's 50th aniversary
so glad u ended up releasing this video after all
I really just love your content
I would wear that Global frequency outfit in a heartbeat!!!
7:18 I think if I was in charge of Hasbro I would tell the team to do Cybertron themed dolls but I don't know much about dolls so that might be a bad idea.
