it blows my mind that mystixx weren’t sued by mattel. like the visual similarities are totally at risk of confusing a buyer. of course these companies get away with striking similarities all the time, but those dolls were reallyyyy pushing it
I mean...there is a doll called Beauty which have used official Barbie images on their boxes, and their name uses a logo that looks soooo close to to the Barbie logo. I think Beauty is from China, it's a very cheap lowbudget doll with suuuuuperthin legs but they doesn't sem to have gotten under Mattels radar yet as I still see it in toystores sometimes...
i will always be grateful to monster high for starting the trend of more risk taking more "out there" conceptual doll lines. would we have ever gotten lines as high concept such as novi stars if mh never existed? i always think about that. i hope that in the future another high concept doll line becomes a huge hit and we can see a revival of these super interesting lines.
Personally I'd love to see more lines from other IPs, like DC Superhero Girls and Marvel Rising were. Imagine if the Power Rangers fashion dolls were revived, or, taking a longshot here, Transformers? I draw them humanized, so...maybe? I know it sounds ridiculous, but it would be a cool experiment.
I had the purple Space Pop girl because my child self never saw girl dolls with short hair and was instantly interested by it. Absolutely couldn't wait until I got home, opened her up, and... her head fell off. The neck peg broke and then both halves got stuck in the head. I was so disappointed but still played with her by having her be a whole "headless horseman" sorta deal.
I literally choked when you reveled the mystics heads are double sided 😭😭 that’s horrifying and if you’re going to give a doll a wig it NEEDS to be high quality lol
I think Monster High needs to give flowers to Living Dead Dolls. These dolls may not have been available in many stores but their existence made it possible for Monster High to be the success it is today. Living Dead dolls were not "fashion" but the clothes they wore were of real good quality with accessories (which vary from series to series). They also had original characters that came in coffins and had detailed backgrounds. Another doll series that Monster High needs to say thanks to are Bleeding Edge Goth dolls aka Begoth Dolls. These came out in 2002, taking inspiration from LDD (who in turn try to compete with them with Fashion Victims in 2003) creating a fashion doll line that were very goth centric in look and theme. I like Monster High but they certainly were not the first, they did improve on their predecessors by making dolls with better articulation and elevated designs in their fashions.
I didn’t know madame Alexander had other attempts at branching out and making more traditional fashion dolls. I would honestly love a video exploring that
I bought one of their "alex" dolls when I first got into making doll clothes because it was a lot cheaper than like all the other 16" dolls and it's surprisingly good quality. I have a redheaded one and the hair is super soft!
I've gotten into the habit of watching your videos while I do my makeup pretty often. It kind of feel like hanging out with a friend! And it's such a delight to sit down to do makeup, pop open youtube and see a very new video with perfect timing! I love your videos! Keep being awesome!
I watch while painting my nails! Sometimes I rewatch old videos. They're the perfect combo of listenable with good visuals when I have a moment to look away from what I'm working on.
I've never heard of Zombie Girls before and I actually kind of love them?? they really walk that weird line of dark/macabre without being outright about it. plus the tombstones actually insinuate something pretty freaky!
i remember finding out about the once upon a zombie dolls and being so shocked at how similar to disney's IP they were, when i first saw them i had assumed they were some off shoot brand of disney.
Among all of the mentioned ‘rip-offs’ I only had basic Meygana doll which was borrowed by a girl from another class in an elementary school to play with for a couple of days and she wouldn’t give her back for weeks as I remember. When she finally brought her back, Meygana was in a horrible condition with missing pieces of clothes, messy hair and her tattoo almost fully scratched. I never talked to that girl since then
Lol when I was a kid I never let anyone touch my dolls. That was like sacred. When I played dolls with my friends they had to bring their own dolls over or I'd let them play with the "ugly" ones.😂
lol my “best friend” in elementary school broke my first monster high doll. We loved monster high, and my family didn’t have much money so I couldn’t afford dolls. My friend’s family was pretty well off, and I remember she had Laguna, Clawdeen, Cleo, etc. well for my bday I got the skull shores Draculaura and I showed my friend, she grabbed it and ripped off all of its limbs. She handed it back and said “oops,” it was so comically evil of someone to do I just sat there in shock. I’m so angry with myself for not doing something about it but I remember being friends with her for awhile after that, until my mom forced me not to hang out with her anymore because she was “disturbed.” She never apologized and blocked me once when I brought it up years later lmao.
I was never really interested in Bratz growing up but I remember seeing a Bratzilla commercial for the first time and being completely blown away by the doll designs. That is one doll I regret never having as a kid.
if you had a disney character warehouse store near you when attractionistas were being released, it was actually extremely easy to find them there a few months later. like you said, they didnt sell well and disney character warehouse sells overstock from the theme parks, so there were a Lot of those dolls available and for a significantly lower price. was able to snag celeste, gracey, carrie, and holly that way!
can we just appreciate your sense of humour? i love your witty comments. i get such a good laugh out of your references and turns of phrase! another informative video - would love to see remakes of your older content too. i’m glad you feel more confident on camera, you have such a fun energy and these videos where you sit with us and talk are my favourite 🖤 (you wear the cutest shirts and sweaters too!)
I honestly wish Zombie Girls would come back. It was the perfect blend of MH and LDD and i feel like if Jakks made em a bit more higher quality and aimed at a more adult audience, they could be on to something there..👀👀👀
Same like just the little blurb of lore is so intriguing. What happened at that sleep over? Why did they dance/cheer to exhaustion? Well the shark one is more self explanatory but still!
@@thespookycore4344- I think the last one drowned after the shark bit her board because that girl would not have at least one piece of her body on her. I was like “Oh she’s lucky she’s still got her body.” then was “Wait how can she if she got killed by a shark?”.
I know right? The blurbs literally have me obsessed like I can picture an entire fandom around headcanons of how each doll died. And the different eras??? I'm obsessed
Oh my GOD the Zombie Girl dolls are so cool. As someone who had and dearly loved the Winx dolls, it's very cool to hear they have the same body sculpt! And I respect the hard-core backstories and actual decay they're painted with haha, they committed to the concept! It's too bad they're so hard to find nowadays
I am into doll repainting as an art hobby, and the repaint community absolutely LOVES Monster High, because they offered unique/fantasy features such as purple skin, animal ears, fins, etc. that allowed for lots of creativity in repainting. Some of these "alternative" lines look like they could provide some of that, but Monster High still seems like the best and highest quality in that sense.
The Bratzillaz dolls are so gorgeous! I remember seeing a commercial on TV for them when I was younger and I fell in love 😭 The designs are honestly great, and I especially liked the red head and the platinum blonde ones! I never got any of them thought and just stuck with getting Monster High dolls.
We are all so grateful that you fought through the anxiety and showed us your darling face - and stuck with developing this channel for so long! You are a natural, even if it took some time to get there. I've been a subscriber since those early days, and it is a joy to see you evolve.
I remember a baby doll line here in brazil called "fofoletes" had a monster high rip off too! it was called Fofolete dark fashion (yes, in english for some reason) and they are just tiny monster babies askfjkas it's quite funny
Zombie Girls actually sounds fun in a Haunted Mansion sort of way; a kid friendly kind of grave humor that I think kinda works. Also for Once Upon A Zombie I bet the “straying from core values” probably was a combo of being afraid to be sued by Disney, and also someone who knew the actual history saw the Pocahontas Doll, and was immediately uncomfortable and knew that it was going to be a BAD PR move Also I remember seeing Attractionistas on the Shop Disney app, I thought they were cool but wasn’t into dolls at the time so I didn’t try to get them (or at least I wanted to wait and see if they made a Tiki Room doll bc that’s my fave attraction and I thought it had potential)
I remember Spacepop and Attractionistas. I always heard of Bratzillas, but personally as a EAH and MH fan, plus I’ve never loved Bratz, I don’t think I was ever interested or even saw what they looked like till now. However, I must say I agree, they actually look so pretty, and I’m not even a fan of Bratz dolls personally.
24:38 Shes perfect I agree that Bratziillaz (which is an awful name by the way) had a lot of potential, because ironically IMO them "just" beign human witches separated them enough from all the other not-Monster Highs that tried to be everything else. I think if they had been an original IP, not clumsily tied to Bratz they could have competed nicely. And yes, they where quite well made, and their music vid "Glam get Wicke Tonigh" is straight up FIRE
being punk myself, I just have a huge soft spot for any doll willing to give us more alt fashion. So this wave of monster high clones is such a favorite of mine, I loveee how many of them tried their hand at goth-ish (to varying levels of success lol)
The thing that I'm curious about with Zombie Girls is if they have the "X" shape in their backs like the Winx dolls. On another note, though... I see that Kururun plush in the background! Good taste.
I unfortunately lost the evidence of this as it was like 7-ish years ago but I was there when SpacePop dropped and the view counts for the episodes would jump up very unnaturally fast and quickly plateau. I am almost positive they were buying bot views.
The Disney attraction dolls had great potential to me because imagine some doll collector sees one of the top souvenirs is a doll of their favorite places of the park ......but knowing Disney they were probably listed 3x the amount they should have been just for being in the park.
So back in the day The Family Dollar stores had MH "knock offs" called Midnight Magic dolls which were surprisingly not mold rips, They also weren't terrible. I have them packed away in my stuff yet. I remember Dollar General also had MH knock offs back in the day. They were Bratz bodies with Skipper's 80's feet on their legs and actual Draculaura head mold dupes on top with the slimmest hair you've ever seen. I bought two as a lark back in the day and one broke before I managed to take it out of the packaging! IT was a wild time. Bratzillaz were the best but they would've done so much better over here if they had just called them Witchez. Bratzilla made no sense, they weren't monsters and most kids would've known the term from "Bridezillaz". It's not like they had to worry about pissing off parents either. No one upset by the word 'Witchez" was ever going to buy their kid a Bratz doll in the first place.
*Oh my gosh the Wizard of Oz Madame Alexander Happy Meal toys are the first thing I think of too.* I'm not sure how my grandma ended up with as many as she did but I swear there were always at least 2 of each character in with my little cousins' and my toys at her house at any given time. I still have a bunch of them too!
I remember SpacePOP and it's marketing lol. When I was abt eleven I used to write stories on this site called storybird-- and the gist was that any fanfiction on the site would be taken down. You had to write original stuff or else, because it was geared towards kids and helping them to develop creativity. And probably also to avoid Naruto Wattpad smut from being posted where kids can see it lol. But anyway, they had a whole event around SpacePOP, because it was the first time that they were allowing fanfiction on the site. For a limited time, you could now write SpacePOP stories, and they really nailed on that. They gave out like rewards for people that did write fic, they updated the image selection with new SpacePOP cover images, they promoted it on their main page-- the works. I never wrote any SpacePOP stories-- I was eleven and going through my "edgelord" phase and was salty that ALL fanfiction wasn't allowed-- but still, I didnt actually know it was a doll line! I just thought it was some bad flash series that got in good with storybird and let them advertise on their site for a while, and now that I'm now a lot older and back into dolls it's surreal to hear lol. I might actually buy a SpacePOP doll for nostalgia.
IK this is a year old but this is probably the most out of left field factoid I've heard in a while. That's so crazy and random OMG, thanks for sharing.
I learned about Attractionista's last year and then my husband and I went to a local mall and found a second hand toy shop. I turn around and see Gracey, I bought her on sight. One of my favorite dolls, I wish they did do more but I am loving the ILY line.
I'm trying to get most of the Attractionistas because I grew up in Disney World and when they were on the shelves in the park there was just no money in my life for them. The one doll I do not want is Celeste. I don't like her design, it doesn't really scream Space Mountain to me. She's just so boring compared to the other dolls in the line. I don't think I even really noticed her in the parks and I was definitely aware of most of them. If I were to design a space mountain doll I think i'd do a metallic dress with a futuristic vibe that looks like the coaster trains and has some details with a sort of white/grey stripe that looks like the exterior of the ride. Maybe give her a cape that has stars in space and some element that looks like a comet thats like ones that go by on the ceiling projections by the loading stations.
I think the space pop type dolls had a lot of potential if just given a little more of a budget because the dolls aren't to far off look wise to the episodes But you can't just put a bunch of merch out without advertising it and building up some kind of hype for it.
I'm not a collector myself, but I've been watching your videos since before you felt comfortable on camera and really enjoy getting to learn about these whole little worlds that I hadn't heard of before. If you want to revisit some topics, I think that's great- certainly for a topic like this, there are likely to be things that came out in the time since your last video which could be added!
Omg I was going to mention 14:33 and 16:50, I wanted the Zombie Girls so badly when I was younger but never got a chance to grab them up. I do have the Once Upon a Zombie dolls actually though! they are all a little..same facey, and definitely give random doll from the dollarstore vibes BUT I LOVE THEMM! Anyone that remembers this era of box art being better than the actual product are real ones fr.
Everytime you do one of these I find myself on ebay looking up how much certain dolls cost. I really like the Gracey attractionistas doll and that she comes with a little bat. Also it's a bummer the second line of bratzillaz never came out, a lot of them look very cool.
I need ALL of these doll lines! 😂 also if anyone wants Space pop books or Monster high books the Dollar tree has them right now! I was so shocked when I found them this week 🖤
Still waiting for the deep dive into Little Miss Fluffywuffy Princess, which was only released in a small region of Albania in 1995 ... that's a deep cut tbh.
i’ve been binge watching and playing yours and other youtubers in the doll community while working on my barbie cosplay for the barbie movie, and i just wanted to say i love your videos so much! i grew up loving dolls and revisiting dolls thru the adult doll community has been such a fun ride. 💕
I always wanted the attractionistas but I’m too terrified to check eBay for them. I was about to say that the ily dolls seem to be filling that void just as you did. I also remember seeing the once upon a zombie dolls and thinking they were dancing waaaay too close to the line for the mouse to not drop a lawsuit on them
Carrie and Gracey are easy to get if you don't mind some missing accessories. I never see the Jungle Cruise one and if there's a Holly she needs a lot of work or is listed at $400. You can get most of them for between $20-$50 and less common ones will pop up occasionally around $100
I suspect they produced more of Gracey than any of the others because she's easy to find at a reasonable price or a somewhat inflated price with all her accessories. There's a ton of new in box attractionistas on the secondhand market because a lot of people who bought them were disney parks merch collectors who weren't necessarily doll collectors or children who wanted to play with them.
@@CoffinFullOfBees thank you! I’ll have to actually look now. I was scared to because I swear any doll that’s not brand new I look at and they’re ridiculously expensive. $20-$50 isn’t that bad, but anything over that I have to pass on.
HI SORRY this is about Atractionistas and some other disney parks doll lines- i got carried away and accidently wrote like a short essay of my perspective as a disney parks kid! I'm not a doll collector, just a doll fan from over the years- but I am quite the Disney Parks nerd! My father worked in Disney World during the release of Attractionistas, and I was OBSESSED! I would see them on our family trips to the parks every month, and I wanted all of them SO BADLY. The only one I was ever able to get my hands on was Nellie, the Jungle Cruise doll, as they had some of her in the cast-exclusive backlot store (which is where they throw products that don't sell well at a slight discount). These dolls did not perform well at all- even I could see this as a kid. So many stores in the parks had lackluster, blocky displays of them, with just walls on all 4 sides of the in-aisle displays showing the same 4 dolls over and over. I don't have Nellie anymore, but honestly, these dolls had very strange proportions. Playing with Nellie alongside my barbies was confusing to me as a kid, because they were slightly taller and had *humongous* heads, but their bodies were so slim that I remember her clothes not fitting very well on my made-to-move barbie. And the feet went back to that strange 2000s rubber with the snapping leg joints, iirc. As much as I was obsessed with these dolls and knew each of their names and features as a kid, I never once saw Briar from Splash Mountain. I believe I might have seen Holly from Tower of Terror *once*, specifically in the Tower of Terror attraction post-ride gift shop, but I never saw her again. Honestly, I can't tell if that's a real memory or just me imagining things- and I don't recall either of these or any of the others besides Nellie ending up in the cast store (Carrie and maybe the Pirates of the Carribean doll might have ended up there for a short time, but if they were, I couldn't afford them). I at one point had plans to save up and buy all of them, but it never happened and one day they just disappeared. I wish I had seen Briar in person at least once- just because bunnies are my favorite animal and her colors look so pretty... I'd absolutely love to own her now but you aren't kidding about that limited release- I mean- I went all the time and never saw her once!!! To most, these dolls were unattainable as Disney Park exclusives (mostly in Magic Kingdom in WDW). To my middle school self, they were unattainable because of their price, thought they were constantly waved in front of me. Apologies for the messy ramblings of an autistic disney parks nerd- but I thought maybe the perspective of a long-time park-goer/previous Attractionista owner/fan may have been interesting to some folks!! more disney parks doll stuff below because I started talking and now I can't stop- Even now, the ILY Forever series is massively enticing to me, I fear I may snap and start collecting them!! They look a lot more appealing than the Attractionistas, and they look to be approximately the same size as the classic 12in doll- like barbie. Their prop and accessory sets are absolutely adorable, too, and they even sell some matching youth clothes so children could match with their doll!! They also have great articulation and a variety of skin tones for Disney Parks' dolls! (my biggest wish for them is very picky, lol, but as they're marketed as characters that are Disney mega-fans going to the parks together, and one accessory set is a puppy dog, I really wish the dog was given a support animal vest- as non-support pets aren't allowed in the parks and this could've been a chance for both representation and a way to teach kids about support animals and not distracting them!!!) The Disney Parks also currently have a decently-new line of Disney Princess fashion dolls that are so stunning compared to what I grew up with! To my knowledge, I believe they're fully articulated? But they have different body types and heights, unique face molds, and different textured hair! Iirc their clothing looked fairly detailed, as well. There's also another Disney Princess doll line for sale in the parks with these huge glamorous ball gowns, but these are more "designer," they're very clearly collectibles, with packaging that even has one of those windows on the box that you have to uncover to see the doll. I'm unsure if these 2 lines are parks exclusive, though- I imagine you can probably get them on shop disney's website just like the ILY dolls!
This is so fascinating to read for me because the Haunted Mansion specifically is one of my biggest special interests, has been since I was a kid. I have almost no interest in any other ride, just the Mansion and the little bits of lore it has. I've studied every aspect of this ride that I could get my hands on, and I vaguely remember when the Attractionistas came out because I quickly became obsessed with Gracey (the Haunted Mansion themed one). Little me desperately wanted one but I sadly never got her because I've never actually been to any Disney park even once in my life lol. It's super interesting to read about these dolls from the perspective of someone who had so much more experience with the actual Disney parks 💗
i love seeing you getting more comfortable on camera & producing better and better videos! you've always been so fun to watch and were an inspiration for me to start my own doll collection and make some videos of my own :) i was happy to see you revisit this, it's a really interesting topic! i need to get my claws on some Bratzillas, i fully agree that they are strong enough to stand on their own and deserved so much more than what they got.
The thing about Attractionista that bothers me is the fantasy skin tones. They don't match the dolls. Space mountain, tower of terror, ans haunted mansion are fine, but the others just don't make sense. Especially Carrie.
Honestly I’m ok if you remake all the vids every 6 months bcuz I forget everything and I love to hear u talk about anything 😂 your voice is so calming and I love your comments too
Now that you say it, most of those dolls lines seem familiar to me so I'd probably watched your video a long time ago. 16:21 Once Upon A Zombie was weird to be back in 2013 but I also though (and I still today) that it was such a cool concept! The first wave of dolls released in my country but the books never did. I would be very interested to read at least the first novel one day. Btw, the fact that this line is connected to Fairy Tale High makes so much sense! 22:06 As an Harry Potter fan back at this time, Bratzillaz looked kinda similar to Monster High webisodes by the animation but different by its witchy dark academia atmosphere. And I liked it. I wasn't a big fan of the dolls outfits (except for Megana) but I agree to say the last dolls designs really get better with time.
i love Mystixx dolls, I have 4, and want to eventually get them all. I buy bodies off of AliExpress to make them articulated. Honestly, the wigs and clothes really aren't that bad. You can switch it around with no problem. People just havent' given them a fair chance. Everytime i do a Tiktok video of a Mystixx doll, it always hits well, and TONS of people ask what they are and where they can get them. Just saying, unless you have actually held one, you don't know how not jank they actually are. Especially when you compare them to some of the other junky fake dolls.
Congratulations on the increase of quality and confidence in your content! I was having the worst month ever in June, being sick and broke and lots of things go wrong and your videos and binging them rlly was comforting content! I like watching them Sometimes to get to sleep if I have a lot on my mind. Thabkyou! Keep creating, I’d love you to do a review based on dolls u think you could improve on or make edits to fulfill it’s potential. Almost like missed opportunity dolls
Wait a sec... is the purple girl in Space Pop wearing a pan flag sweatshirt? If so, cool! That actually looks like a line I would have liked, since it combines superheroines/magical girls with campy space/alien theming. Now it looks like a lot of wasted potential that could be reworked into something that works.
It’s so nice seeing you on camera now and I’m glad you’re more comfortable being on camera 😊 Oh I used to read The Toy Box Philosopher’s blog all the time!! “Eye shadow from Spirit Halloween and a dream” 😂😂 I love the snark in your videos! The Space Pop dolls make me think of Ever After more (well, the dolls do, but their webisodes make me think of MH). Zombie Girls look really cool, it’s too bad the line didn’t last. I’m still kicking myself for not getting the Haunted Mansion Attractionista when I saw her at Disneyland 😭😭😭 Wow Bratzillas truly are gorgeous!
Wow! I totally forgot about Bratzillas, but going through the photos you used, I'm recognizing several pieces that I still have floating around in my doll storage!
Never been a fan of MH but i always like draculaura design, and i agree with bratzilla their design looks amazing, it's colorful but not "tacky" or busy looking, i think if they decided to revive the line, they can use the design and apply it on MH dolls? And called it halloween special, or something
ur so sweet and well informed its sad to think u ever felt shy about being onfront of the camera or ur voice .. which is very sweet and relaxing. keep doing you coz ur doing amazing :) big love from ireland x
Once Upon a Zombie have lovely inset eyes and seem reasonably well made. Love the tombstones, was considering making my own for the zombies princesses. Love Bratzillas, their eyes!!
I really wish we got some more story or like a webisode thing for Zombie girls. Idk how they'd get something so dark but still child target audience to go through but just the little lines of possible backstory is really intriguing to me.
Coming from an unpopular doll TH-camr, you are one of my favorites! You do such a great job there is dry humor and facts and it’s awesome! Don’t second guess yourself! Also if it’s okay, what are you pronouns?
these are the kind of dolls your parents will buy for you when you're on holiday because you forgot to bring your favorite barbie. Cheap easy to find and its ok if they get wrecked or lost in the sand at the beach
I think the first video of yours I ever watched was your original MH Rip-Offs/Doll lines inspired by MH video!! It's crazy to think it's been so long 💜 Looking forward to you revisiting the topic! 😊
Coincidentally I watched that old video just last night. Perfect timing to watch a quasi-remake! I’m really enjoying your content despite not being a doll fan. Your passion makes them very fun and informative videos!
I remember learning about Once Upon a Zombie through Comic Con back in 2013 - I was never a doll person but always thought that Rapunzel was so gorgeous in that gothic deadly way. I'm still so sad that all these dolls came out when I was already a young adult because I would've been obsessed with them growing up. I had a big Nightmare Before Christmas collection since I was 8 that continued to grow so this would be right up my alley.
fantastic video! these historical dives into lesser known doll lines are some of my favorite videos of yours. I picked up the space mountain attractionista and she's really cute, though her rubbery legs have gotten a bit sticky and the paint on her jumpsuit has started to chip pretty badly. Still, I'm really enamored with her! I kinda want to pick up the ily4 ever space mountain fashion pack and see if I can fit them on her :)
I feel like people confuse “inspiration” and “rip off”-as in when they hear “inspired by a (doll line)” and assume itd be like twilight teens or once upon a zombie(with disney) when thats not what inspiration means, bratzillaz is 100% inspired monster high but its just not a rip off it actually took monster high’s core concept (supernatrual altarnative girls) and made it unique and its own Also ngl zombie girls is reminding me alot of an old book series i used to read called “ghost girl” just (obv) focused on zombies instead of ghosts-id love if they manged to come back but with a focus on more older collectors (like living deas dolls or monster high g1 currently)
I LOVE Once Upon a Zombie, they’re actually on AliExpress. I’ve been wanting to collect them for years but never really had the courage to buy them. I know they pretty much all have the same molding but I just love the zombie design looks. I wish they would’ve released the Pocahontas! I kinda liked the episodes too even though the CGI was AWFUL. There was a uniqueness to it. I think if they had more of the funds, and if it was with a bigger doll company this doll line would’ve definitely been big, not like MH but it could’ve had potential.
I saw this video title and got excited Once Upon A Zombie might be in this. So excited to see it! I had the (first version) Snow White doll from a miscellaneous toy show, and I had gone down a rabbit hole with the web series and the things behind it for awhile
Great video, really interesting! Steffi Love and Simba toys are all over the place in Austria, but I wasn't paying much attention to doll lines when I moved here in 2013. So I really appreciated seeing a different line from them! Personally, I have no problem with people remaking old videos. There's a great conversational vibe when you're on screen, and sometimes it's just nice to try something again once you've found your artistic style or feel more comfortable. You'll certainly still get a view from me.
I'm glad you revisted this idea! Bratzillaz were the best, now I want a Yasmina doll. If you want another video idea, I propose "Monster High G2 wasn't all terrible" 😂
G2 hate is so weird because they're pretty comparable to g3. Aside from the budget dolls, both gen designs are pretty childish. Especially with all the random colors g3 is throwing around.
I saw the Bratzilla dolls in stores and I’m kicking myself for not buying one when I had the chance. I think it’s cause the Equestria Girls dolls were around and being a big MLP fan I gravitated more to that. Especially since I was determined to get everything involving my fav character Pinkie Pie. Add on that it appeared (to me) that Bratzilla was made to replace the Bratz dolls because of the bs lawsuit Mattel threw at them and that didn’t really sit well with me. And yeah I also wasn’t really buying any Barbies as well as Monster High cause of that stupid debacle. Like what Mattel did to outdo Jem was crappy but to fling a lawsuit to stop your biggest competitor when nothing else would is such a low thing to do and soured my viewpoint of the company. As such I didn’t want anything to do with them till Ever After High came out and that was only cause I really really adore the character of Maddie. If not for her, Mattel wouldn’t of gotten a cent from me till they did those Barbie dolls for her big anniversary a few years back. Now a days I’m only really buying the MH G3 dolls if I can afford it and the Barbie Movie dolls because the trailers for it has made me a fan of the film.
My favorite is Zombie girls I don't have the dolls but I love the concept and character designs and if they had more or successful I would have loved to see a 50s Greaser character a boy because obviously and every girl doll line has one guy character. Also it's very creative that they use the tombstones as doll stands
I remember the Madam Alexander Wizard of Oz McDonald toys too! I collected both series 1 and 2. Also, Atractionistas look really nice! I certainly learned about doll lines I didn't know about before in your videos!
“They had a green screen, a $10 costume budget, eye shadow from Spirit Halloween and a dream”😭💀😂 the way I hollered!
the scream i scrempt
Girl, same 😂 the, "and a dream" took me out
Biggest roast he's ever made
Their video has the same energy as the Slumber Party Girls' video for Summers Gone 😂
💀😂
"Roccoco zombies" is so insanely up my alley that I feel personally slighted by how badly the actual dolls executed this concept.
OMG SAME LOL
There's a book that I think you'd love, and it's called Dearly Departed. It's a Neo-Victorian future after a zombie outbreak and it's a *romance*
I loved mystix when I was little but yeah doll quality is horrible
it blows my mind that mystixx weren’t sued by mattel. like the visual similarities are totally at risk of confusing a buyer. of course these companies get away with striking similarities all the time, but those dolls were reallyyyy pushing it
Honestly it could be because they weren't popular enough to threaten monster high's sales, so they just didn't care
If they were successful there would have been a law suit lmao
I mean...there is a doll called Beauty which have used official Barbie images on their boxes, and their name uses a logo that looks soooo close to to the Barbie logo. I think Beauty is from China, it's a very cheap lowbudget doll with suuuuuperthin legs but they doesn't sem to have gotten under Mattels radar yet as I still see it in toystores sometimes...
Mystixx? Twilight Teens is right there and I’m shocked that Mattel didn’t go ballistic over the fact Simba basically did 1:1 recreations of MH designs
i will always be grateful to monster high for starting the trend of more risk taking more "out there" conceptual doll lines. would we have ever gotten lines as high concept such as novi stars if mh never existed? i always think about that. i hope that in the future another high concept doll line becomes a huge hit and we can see a revival of these super interesting lines.
Check out Living Dead Dolls and Bleeding Edge Dolls for starting the trend for Monster High.
"The doll you can change the face of" 😆
Reminds of Zoolander and "the school for kids who can't read good"
😂
What is this? *A CENTER FOR ANTS?!*
I thought LDD and BeGoths were both made by Mezco? EDIT: NVM I just checked. They are different producers
@@TheSmallMegglesI love LDD
First gen Monster High look so similar to Begoths it's insane
I didn’t know madame Alexander had other attempts at branching out and making more traditional fashion dolls. I would honestly love a video exploring that
I bought one of their "alex" dolls when I first got into making doll clothes because it was a lot cheaper than like all the other 16" dolls and it's surprisingly good quality. I have a redheaded one and the hair is super soft!
I’ll ditto that motion- I have a lot of their McDonald’s dolls and one nice one from my grandma, but it’d be cool to see their other stuff!
They also had 18 inch dolls for a while. I have a few of them even.
💯
your jacket is so cute omg
We love the drip
the Monster High vibes are strong!! perfect for the topic
I like your pfp
I've gotten into the habit of watching your videos while I do my makeup pretty often. It kind of feel like hanging out with a friend! And it's such a delight to sit down to do makeup, pop open youtube and see a very new video with perfect timing!
I love your videos! Keep being awesome!
Yes! I watch these while drawing or sewing
The Attractionistas are so cute and such a fun concept! I hope they bring them back at some point, though I doubt it.
In the UK some theme parks under Merlin have teddy bears of major rides. I can see that having a wider appeal than a doll line unfortunately
they have new dolls called i love you forever, they're more realistic less cartoony and inset eyes, i think theyre pretty and would love to have one
@@rmarshall7744oh yea i have a few of those!
The ily 4ever dolls have new fashion packs that are based on certain attractions
i remember finding out about the once upon a zombie dolls and being so shocked at how similar to disney's IP they were, when i first saw them i had assumed they were some off shoot brand of disney.
15:36 God, that’s…extremely dark. “Eye candy to everyone and everything” as the reason for her death…almost sounds like r*pe or se*ual assault
I never talked to that girl since then
I love being a girl, do them wrong and your enemies for life. Boys will fist fight , hurt each other and be friends afterward. Never girls..
Bratzillaz were absolutely gorgeous. I really hope they do repos soon. I especially love the unreleased prototypes that leaked awhile ago.
I'm not even a doll collector, per se, but this is one of my favorite channels. It is so comforting to listen to you!
I was like “Oh she’s lucky she’s still got her body.” then was “Wait how can she if she got killed by a shark?”.
the zombie girls dolls are so weirdly appealing to me!!
I know right? The blurbs literally have me obsessed like I can picture an entire fandom around headcanons of how each doll died. And the different eras??? I'm obsessed
".... and a dream." Your zingers crack me up! Your sense of timing and delivery is great. XD
You totally unlocked a memory with the madame Alexander McDonald's toys!! I can't remember if they were wizard of oz, but I totally had some of those!
I just looked this up and NOTHING could prepare me for what these things look like 😂😂😂
@@kristinmickey they are something for sure
I like the zombie girls a lot and there backstory’s are so sad but interesting especially the sleepover one 😢
Zombie Girls actually sounds fun in a Haunted Mansion sort of way; a kid friendly kind of grave humor that I think kinda works.
Also for Once Upon A Zombie I bet the “straying from core values” probably was a combo of being afraid to be sued by Disney, and also someone who knew the actual history saw the Pocahontas Doll, and was immediately uncomfortable and knew that it was going to be a BAD PR move
Also I remember seeing Attractionistas on the Shop Disney app, I thought they were cool but wasn’t into dolls at the time so I didn’t try to get them (or at least I wanted to wait and see if they made a Tiki Room doll bc that’s my fave attraction and I thought it had potential)
I remember Spacepop and Attractionistas. I always heard of Bratzillas, but personally as a EAH and MH fan, plus I’ve never loved Bratz, I don’t think I was ever interested or even saw what they looked like till now. However, I must say I agree, they actually look so pretty, and I’m not even a fan of Bratz dolls personally.
how to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that a company is just ripping off disney characters: they include POCAHONTAS AS A FAIRYTALE CHARACTER
24:38 Shes perfect
I agree that Bratziillaz (which is an awful name by the way) had a lot of potential, because ironically IMO them "just" beign human witches separated them enough from all the other not-Monster Highs that tried to be everything else.
I love the whole monster/alien theme for dolls and its cool to see all the different ones. I wish there were more dolls like that.
I'm still silently raging that Disney got rid of their Attractionistas 😭
I learned about Attractionista's last year and then my husband and I went to a local mall and found a second hand toy shop. I turn around and see Gracey, I bought her on sight. One of my favorite dolls, I wish they did do more but I am loving the ILY line.
Another great video!!
I would say Novi Stars and Zelfs (while not exactly a fashion doll line) would have not existed if not for Monster High.
Ooh, I love the theme you use at the end. It sounds familiar somehow, and nostalgic. Honestly such a bop.
I think the space pop type dolls had a lot of potential if just given a little more of a budget because the dolls aren't to far off look wise to the episodes
But you can't just put a bunch of merch out without advertising it and building up some kind of hype for it.
Yeah
I'm not a collector myself, but I've been watching your videos since before you felt comfortable on camera and really enjoy getting to learn about these whole little worlds that I hadn't heard of before. If you want to revisit some topics, I think that's great- certainly for a topic like this, there are likely to be things that came out in the time since your last video which could be added!
I miss McDonald’s having cool and special toys like the Madame Alexander dolls… 🩷
They don’t even give out plastic toys in the United Kingdom any more 💀 All the toys are made of paper
I have that Glinda still and I love it!!
Still waiting for the deep dive into Little Miss Fluffywuffy Princess, which was only released in a small region of Albania in 1995
...
that's a deep cut tbh.
I almost choked when you said a $10 budget a green screen and a dream.
i’ve been binge watching and playing yours and other youtubers in the doll community while working on my barbie cosplay for the barbie movie, and i just wanted to say i love your videos so much! i grew up loving dolls and revisiting dolls thru the adult doll community has been such a fun ride.
Apologies for the messy ramblings of an autistic disney parks nerd- but I thought maybe the perspective of a long-time park-goer/previous Attractionista owner/fan may have been interesting to some folks!!
more disney parks doll stuff below because I started talking and now I can't stop-
Even now, the ILY Forever series is massively enticing to me, I fear I may snap and start collecting them!! (my biggest wish for them is very picky, lol, but as they're marketed as characters that are Disney mega-fans going to the parks together, and one accessory set is a puppy dog, I really wish the dog was given a support animal vest- as non-support pets aren't allowed in the parks and this could've been a chance for both representation and a way to teach kids about support animals and not distracting them!!!)
The Disney Parks also currently have a decently-new line of Disney Princess fashion dolls that are so stunning compared to what I grew up with!
Honestly I’m ok if you remake all the vids every 6 months bcuz I forget everything and I love to hear u talk about anything 😂 your voice is so calming and I love your comments too
I remember wanting Bratzillaz back in the day! They were so beautiful! ♥
I always wanted a bratzilla, the ads had me so hyped
“Eye shadow from Spirit Halloween and a dream” 😂😂
I love the snark in your videos!
The Space Pop dolls make me think of Ever After more (well, the dolls do, but their webisodes make me think of MH).
Zombie Girls look really cool, it’s too bad the line didn’t last.
I’m still kicking myself for not getting the Haunted Mansion Attractionista when I saw her at Disneyland 😭😭😭
Wow Bratzillas truly are gorgeous!
Wow! I totally forgot about Bratzillas, but going through the photos you used, I'm recognizing several pieces that I still have floating around in my doll storage!
You always seem to upload when I'm at work which is awesome because I'm bad employee and I love binging your videos while working
You're right to reflect on your progress, you've come far! Keep killing it 💜
14:43 and now their line is dead.
This guy’s more than just a TH-camr, he’s a comedic genius! 😂😄
Never been a fan of MH but i always like draculaura design, and i agree with bratzilla their design looks amazing, it's colorful but not "tacky" or busy looking, i think if they decided to revive the line, they can use the design and apply it on MH dolls? And called it halloween special, or something
I'm so happy you're remaking this video in your current style, it's one of my favourites
ur so sweet and well informed its sad to think u ever felt shy about being onfront of the camera or ur voice .. which is very sweet and relaxing. keep doing you coz ur doing amazing :) big love from ireland x
6:16 Is this Darko's work? It sure looks like it.
20:11 I DO have Gracey, from Haunted Mansion, absolutely adore her. 🥰
Any pronouns!
Also there's a spacepop chapter book... I only found out cause it showed up at dollar tree recently 😭
these are the kind of dolls your parents will buy for you when you're on holiday because you forgot to bring your favorite barbie.
Great video! Also gotta love that Kururun plush vibin in the back! Do you own any of the Precure fashion dolls?
Oh no! I have the Space Mountain one too. She is unfortunately in storage. I hope I will not have a bad surprise. I love her dog too!
where's that jacket from omg
I feel like people confuse “inspiration” and “rip off”-as in when they hear “inspired by a (doll line)” and assume itd be like twilight teens or once upon a zombie(with disney) when thats not what inspiration means, bratzillaz is 100% inspired monster high but its just not a rip off it actually took monster high’s core concept (supernatrual altarnative girls) and made it unique and its own
Also ngl zombie girls is reminding me alot of an old book series i used to read called “ghost girl” just (obv) focused on zombies instead of ghosts-id love if they manged to come back but with a focus on more older collectors (like living deas dolls or monster high g1 currently)
I love your videos. They’re always so rich with information and commentary. ❤
you're so great. i love your comedic timing. i've been collecting switch a witch galz !!!
I've always loved Bratzillaz since I first saw them in a Toys R Us waaay back, even though I'm a Monster High person at heart
literally get so excited whenever u upload
My good human, do you want Darling to suffer?
