I purchased one before they were available. I'm very happy with it. I wanted something to do quick recording without getting bogged down with a DAW, computer and programs. Young guys and gals that are into DAWs and/or MPC-styles, ways of making music will have a hard time with this and want more features that this wasn't designed for. All the additional wants would drive the cost up and make it a different product than it's intent. Guys/gals coming from the "old school" days of tape and analog recording mixers will get it, although it doesn't have the routing capabilities without going to a DAW. I don't mind plugging and unplugging say a keyboard to get to a different channel to record a different track. The only minus's I have are small and that's TASCAM needs to review the manual to fix some errors or some confusion that may be due to being written outside the U.S. and not translating to clear, understandable English. My one wish is a VGA input just so there's a bigger screen to see what's going on versus the small, onboard screen. Well, worth the money. Wish it was possible to buy a second one and link them to expand it. I hope Boynton does another or more videos on this board that shows the recording and live use process.

Thanks for the confirmation and feedback so far (I was confused by the user manual sketchiness). So let me refocus my questions here then just on the Final MASTER/MIXDOWN task (without having a separate Computer, MIDI or special interfaces, and Pro-Tools/ DAW stuff -- that I have never liked or used). Let's say we have some 18-track tune created on the unit. Now......I want to play the song back and do a final Master or MIXdown (with final volume, EQ, panning and effects adjustments made) into a normal stereo 2-TRACK Format as a Waveform file (the master) .... and have that master audio file preserved on my USB stick. How do I do this? (not clear from the documentation I read) A) What does the units own USB interface provide here to help me? B) How do I reduce the multiple-Tracks that I created down into a Mastered stereo 2-Track standard audio file format? C) How do I then get this 2-Track mastered audio file (standard format) into my own favorite storage media (USB)? Thanks again for your help. I'm just not a DAW or high tech guy ... I'm coming from the old days where everything was tape-into-tape.
Thanks for the video, nice one! A quick question, when using as a stand alone multitracker, Is it simple/intuititve to carry out basic audio editing functions such as cut, copy, paste, move, erase, auto punch in out etc...? Many thanks in advance :)
I was going to go with Behringer Xenyx UFX1604 Mixer but I spent $400 more and just ordered the Model 24? It's way more channels than I need and a much bigger footprint than I wanted... someone tell me I made the right choice :) Tell me the pre-amps on this are much better than on the Behringer :)
I've yet to use it as an interface. Does it work well? If I have Abelton on my laptop, do I need to download anything else. If you're not experienced with boards, recording, etc....no, u don't need to spend 3 days reading. More like 3 months of reading, and experimenting
So far I love the Model 24 as an easy to use LIVE mixer. Easy to use! My “issue” is that there is much todo about its multi-track recording/mix down CAPABILITIES but very little in the way of HOW-TO setup the Model 24/PC/DAW/Card and the process to do this? Given that X32 DAW interface and routing How-Tos are endless ...Is the Model 24 too new for these? An instruction manual/TH-cam how-to videos would be greatly appreciated .
There is no "card" needed. Just connect a USB cable to mixer and PC/Laptop and - possibly - download and install a driver on your computer. Dead simple, no manual needed until you try to optimize latency. But that's a fairly basic process as well, I'm sure Tascam has instructions - otherwise, there's plenty of generic instructions on the web. A problem to worry about would more likely be the fact, that phantom power on/off is a global affair! So you can only turn on phantom power for all inputs at once.. That seems idiotic to me and sorta ruins my plan to buy one.
to bounce tracks there's no internal bouncing available to select...you'd have to route tracks to and fx send..then return that fx inot a couple of mixer channels to bounce em down ..clumsy but do able.
@@Pharesm can you recommend some links on that, as I am looking for more info on setting up the interface too, please help its not so easy if you dont have DAW skills or sure what to use etc
Tell me Tascam - how is the vibration of a live event such as a deep Bass playing effect the Model-24??? I have the Neo both MKII and Neo 24 Track and when ppl were dancing and or the Bais from the speaker moved the floor - I would get Error on my little screen or freeze-ups having to lose my recording cause i had to restart my unit again. How well was the Model -24 tested for vibration in live settings???
I’d guess that if you’re working a show with that much bass, you should have other gear. If you’re working with a PA system in the same price range as this board, it probably won’t be able to hurt it.
Hey I m using this to jam in the studio w synths . drum machines etc. When I record in multitrack the MUTE/UNMUTE Action is not recorded in the actual AUDIO FILES on the SD CARD - What am I doing wrong?
Phantom power does not effect dynamic mics (make sure you check the specific mic but I've never seen one that is effected) just don't use a ribbon mic and you will be fine
use balanced (3 wire XLR or 3 wire ring, tip and sleeve) dynamics when also using Phantom powered balanced (600 ohms) condensers together with them, don't use any 2 wire high impedance type mikes or cables in with them though, they can be used but don't mix them together.
Hello, I was wondering if there's any way to completely bypass the built in preamps in order to use/take advantage of higher end stand-alone preamps/channel strips? Or would that make no difference at all based on the design of this unit? Thank you.
The faders do not seem to have any effect on recording volume. I sequenced one synth and played live on two others. The sequenced synth was set to minimum on its fader and I slowly brought it up as I soloed. When I played back the recording, the sequenced synth was at full volume the entire time even when the fader was down. What did I do wrong?
Ok so how do you mix post recording with the SD card? Not in manual Really making me regret buying this I already had a Mac with Logic Pro but want to mix my songs solely with the mixer. Please help Where are directions or info for doing this post recording ????
With this don’t know much, but Young people are amazed that physical recording devices exist ! Daws are great but assume people have a cpu in the household and some don’t. 2000-3000$ tech is great Daws but without a producer you have endless options, so editing ok but see most people using Daws can’t play real instrument’s or usually dj or dance beats. No not everyone but seems like it. Both good too learn
Why no independent phantom power switches? :( Not a big deal but kindof a big deal... suppose it's not really an issue unless using old ribbon mics but still.
people are always afraid but really, there's absolutely zero issues with using phantom power with dynamic and condenser mics at the same time. There's NO change in sound quality and recording.
How does it transfer from TASCAM to DAW? Is it still separated tracks of each channel strip when you transfer it to DAW? Or will it be converted to one stereo track from tascam to DAW?
What a beauty! Couple of questions, is there video out for the screen? Also, can inputs be routed to other tracks? For example, can I do a line in on input 1 but record to input 2?
Hi! There isn't a dedicated screen out, but when connected to your computer and using a DAW, you can route the tracks however you wish and see everything on the screen in your DAW.
If you want to go full old school, you can plug the sub-output to any pair of channels you have available for recording, send all the tracks you want to bounce to the sub and record that. You will have to do good levelling and mixing beforehand (although projects can be saved so there's no loss of data unlike a real 4-track)
Hello! And thanks! How does one add IO to the Tascam 24 with the Tascam us 16x08? I’m very interested and will purchase everything. I noticed that Tascam put out a video that only showed you how to do it on a Mac, and left the rest of the world wondering 😂 which I thought was SUPER weird. Real information would be great so that I can follow through with the actual purchase. Thanks so much!
Most of these why whatever computers best for use it but I would say use it for editing in master mastering as and take the ST card out don’t try to hook it up to the computer they always have lost the weather to Tascam or any other any company
I'm John I have the model 24. Just starting with this mixer. I have a question about gain. How do you set the gain of a channel. Press PFL but i do not see on the mix any reaction on the meters (no green/yellow/red) sohow to do it right?
make sure you have something making sound coming into the mixer (for example a guitarist strumming chords) then press PFL and slowly turn up the gain until the strumming is just under where it turns yellow. So still in the green but the highest green it can get.
Just not enough pre and post fader sends to run floor monitors and a decent number of fx at once. What do you expect people at this price point to run a dedicated monitor console and carry around heavy analogue split? Running live with 1 sub group? Really a standard band would use between 4 and 6.
Can you use and record the eq while recording, so that it can be used for live dub mixing while still tweaking and recording electronic instruments? Can the monitor aux'es be used for fx? And how clear are the preamps compared to Audients?
Only the master stereo recording captures the EQ and effects. All the other 22 tracks are post-preamp and post-comp. However, there's a trick to bounce an EQ'd track to another. Just pan the track full right (if mono), route it to the sub output, plug a cable from the L sub-output to the input of the track you want to bounce the track. Arm, record and done. Pretty old-school approach but the advantage here is that it's full digital.
The major thing I'm confused about is using this for analog mixdown. What I really want is to record my tracks one by one through my focusrite 2i4 into my DAW, but use the Tascam 24 to control the levels and panning for each of these tracks separately. So, basically use my DAW as a playback engine, whereby each track in the DAW is played back in it's respective track on the Tascam. What I'm confused by here is, how do you get the tracks in the DAW to correspond to a respective track in the Tascam? Is this accomplished all via USB? Or do I also need to upgrade to an interface with say 24 inputs and outputs to do this? When I saw the Sweetwater demo of this feature, I did not see a bunch of cables going to in from, rather it appeared he simply had cables hooked up to the monitors in his studio and the Tascam linked to his DAW via usb, but all of the tracks in the DAW corresponded to each respective track on his Tascam.
It is not a control surface, and that's could be confusing I guess. It is like those mackies that had usb feature, it is a usb out, you can get your channels as "In's" on your DAW and then press record to get those record onto your daw. But it doesn't say much about latency and I doubt you could, per say, do some direct monitoring of a software effect... I doubt it will control your daw anyway
We don’t see why not, but it may be worth double checking with Tascam. Though, anything recorded to the SD card can easily be moved to your DAW, and if you’re using the Model 24 as an interface, it may make recording to both the internal SD card as well as your DAW simultaneously unnecessary.
Has anyone had any issues with the Model 24? I’m keen to pick one up and want to hear any good news stories as well as bad so I can make an informed decision. Thanks!
It's a pity - the Zoom L-20's seven built-in headphones outputs are more useful to me than all the rows of EQ knobs and longer sliders. I wish that wasn't the case because this Tascam Model 24 is so beautiful !!
This video implies it but I wanted to be certain as I've seen comments that are kind of confusing to me, in short, if I am trying to record every instrument one at a time (as in I am one man and I can record the drums first, then add the bass, then the guitar etc.) is that possible with this unit? I love that I able to record a live band but I don't always have a live band when I need to record.
I look further, no semiparametric or full parametric channel strip eq with lo and hi mids adjustable...furthermore it lacks inserts per channel... and the 7 band eq could also be 9 band.
Insert plugs are both sends and returns in one plug housing, i think the tip is the send and the ring is the return, the shaft is earth, it looks like a stereo type plug but wired differently so it is both out and in, I think that's why they call it an insert as its been inserted into the circuit in one hit!
How exactly would I hook up an effect to the inserts on Input 1 & 2? Would I just plug the output of the effect into the trs insert and turn on the efx send?
Yes they can. Standalone your record for one through once one at once and you go back and redo one while listening to the other ones just like in a real studio amazing yes I know computers are all the rage but I love the songs not this one but things like them

Hi, I just have a question. I am already using an analog Tascam mixer, the M312B as a preamp, and connect it to a focusrite 2i2 and sometimes to a tascam 1800 interface. My question is, will this console give me a better sounding recording than all the gear I am already using?, I am aiming for a better analog sound by the way.
Hi Erick! So here's where it always gets tricky. We've been in business for over 65 years, carry a lot of brands of gear and sell interfaces from $99 right on up through huge, pro-level consoles. Anytime you do any readying online, you're bound to see people who argue that $100 guitars are just as good as $2,000 guitars, that the material that a drum is made out of doesn't matter and that preamps and converters don't make a difference. Those people are of course in the minority and most wouldn't agree with them, but that's just how their ears hear things. In our opinion, something like the Model 24 would definitely streamline your workflow and yes, give be an overall upgrade. Things like the quality of microphones and mic positioning are going to make a giant impact as well, but if you know what you're doing as far as setting up the gear and engineering your tracks, we'd be really surprised if you weren't satisfied with your upgrade to the Model 24. The mic pre's, converters and effects sound fantastic, and it'll do wonders for your overall workflow. Feel free to give us a call toll-free Monday-Friday from 8:30am-5pm EST at 1-877-SOUND-01 and we'd be happy to chat with you about your needs, your existing gear and help in any way that we can. We're all giant gear nerds here and love chatting about toys. Thanks! -Juan
@@BoyntonProAudio I appreciate your reply. I have one more question: does the tascam 24 give you a warm analog rounded sounding when it comes for recording?
@@ErickRodriguez-oo6wb It's definitely on the warm side. Whether into a DAW or the internal SD card it's still going to be a digital recording and thus won't sound like recording to tape, but it's still worlds better than a lot of similar products on the market.
I have some very bad news about this Mixing board. I bought it, but there is a Big BUT about it. I need some help alright? I'm not able to get a true accurate mix while using the headphones. Great Mixer without a doubt ...But what bothers me a lot and prevents me from making a purchase is that the inputs are not on the back side of the mixer. It looks terrible when you use it as a studio mixer.
doesn't have tools to bounce tracks down.. say tracks 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 to track 9 and 10 ...you have to go out via cables and in again to mix anything..clumsy... my tascam 244 cassette recorder could bounce track down in 1983... 2019 on a model 24...not so easy i'd mix down by moving the project stems to a DAW.
I dont understand how this is a 24 track when there is only 22 tracks , and to me it seems like even then its not really a 22 track either its more like a 17 track because whatever you plug into just the mono 13/14 it just records on both tracks , so mono 13 records on 13 and 14 at the same time, there seems to be no way to choose just one track , but if you plug into just the the R 14 it will record only on the 14 track but only the right side and its the same through to 19/20 and even the RCA 21/22,,,very confusing and illogical it seems
The first thing a real recording person wants to know is,,,,, what Quality does it record at it was never mentioned, 24bit 96k,,,,?????????? Should have mentioned this first, it was never mentioned.
Hi. I already purchased this machine. Why doesn't Tascam care about the Portuguese language? Why don't the manuals come in Portuguese too? Portuguese is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. The music market is huge in this language. With all due respect, I ask you: Are those responsible for promoting the Tascam brand sleeping? Or are you convinced that everyone has to know English? Did it cost a lot to have this video translated? It would be useful for many thousands of people. Brazil alone has almost 210 million people. Greetings.
The announcer in this video is full of plosives. No pop-filter? The background music is completely and totally unnecessary, and competes with the plosive announcer.

And then can they playback the completed 20-track song (created track-by-track at time by one person) and do a Master Mixdown --- and send out the Master Left/Right signal as a normal stereo *.wav audio file -- through the USB connection on to a USB stick?
I doubt it. However, You can just get a Vivitar Sd to USB or something of the sort and it would literally take 2 more minutes than what you're asking
Thanks for the confirmation and feedback so far (I was confused by the user manual sketchiness).
So let me refocus my questions here then just on the Final MASTER/MIXDOWN task
(without having a separate Computer, MIDI or special interfaces, and Pro-Tools/ DAW stuff -- that I have never liked or used).
(not clear from the documentation I read)
A) What does the units own USB interface provide here to help me?
Nice video guys. One question, the multitrack recording is sent to the DAW after eq and fader or how is the signal flow on that subject?
I was going to go with Behringer Xenyx UFX1604 Mixer but I spent $400 more and just ordered the Model 24? It's way more channels than I need and a much bigger footprint than I wanted... someone tell me I made the right choice :) Tell me the pre-amps on this are much better than on the Behringer :)
We applaud your decision!
I have the same questions about the preamps too... How do they fare vs Zoom Livetrack or the Behringer xenyx ufx
@@BoyntonProAudio The Pres are WAY BETTER!
I've yet to use it as an interface. Does it work well? If I have Abelton on my laptop, do I need to download anything else. If you're not experienced with boards, recording, etc....no, u don't need to spend 3 days reading. More like 3 months of reading, and experimenting
Can it connect to a biger monitor?
Does every channel require phantom power or can you select phantom power on/off for every channel
Did anybody had any problems? It seem that on my model, multijog press, doesnt work..? Solution? Mechanical problem?
Tell me Tascam - how is the vibration of a live event such as a deep Bass playing effect the Model-24??? I have the Neo both MKII and Neo 24 Track and when ppl were dancing and or the Bais from the speaker moved the floor - I would get Error on my little screen or freeze-ups having to lose my recording cause i had to restart my unit again. How well was the Model -24 tested for vibration in live settings???
I’d guess that if you’re working a show with that much bass, you should have other gear. If you’re working with a PA system in the same price range as this board, it probably won’t be able to hurt it.
Humn..... I'm very interested. Does anyone know if this system has hypass filters built into each channel? Thanx
Great vid.....very helpful....thanks. Much covered clearly and in a short time.
Hey I m using this to jam in the studio w synths . drum machines etc. When I record in multitrack the MUTE/UNMUTE Action is not recorded in the actual AUDIO FILES on the SD CARD - What am I doing wrong?
Is there any way to use a mix of dynamic and condenser microphones with this unit, given that 2 reviews stated, that phantom power on/off is global?
I have the same question... but, what happens if you send phantom power to a dynamic mic, will it be damaged?
Phantom power does not effect dynamic mics (make sure you check the specific mic but I've never seen one that is effected) just don't use a ribbon mic and you will be fine
use balanced (3 wire XLR or 3 wire ring, tip and sleeve) dynamics when also using Phantom powered balanced (600 ohms) condensers together with them, don't use any 2 wire high impedance type mikes or cables in with them though, they can be used but don't mix them together.
Great video! Very informative.
Hello, I was wondering if there's any way to completely bypass the built in preamps in order to use/take advantage of higher end stand-alone preamps/channel strips? Or would that make no difference at all based on the design of this unit? Thank you.
The preamps are perfectly OK.
I have the same question
The faders do not seem to have any effect on recording volume. I sequenced one synth and played live on two others. The sequenced synth was set to minimum on its fader and I slowly brought it up as I soloed. When I played back the recording, the sequenced synth was at full volume the entire time even when the fader was down. What did I do wrong?
You're recording was prefader, maybe pre-eq and comp even. Look up if you can configure this mixer to record postfader
How great are the interface converters? Coming from a DAW.
Through USB can one record 22 multitrack channels in DAW?
Yep!
Ok so how do you mix post recording with the SD card? Not in manual
Really making me regret buying this
I already had a Mac with Logic Pro but want to mix my songs solely with the mixer. Please help
Where are directions or info for doing this post recording ????
With this don’t know much, but Young people are amazed that physical recording devices exist ! Daws are great but assume people have a cpu in the household and some don’t. 2000-3000$ tech is great Daws but without a producer you have endless options, so editing ok but see most people using Daws can’t play real instrument’s or usually dj or dance beats. No not everyone but seems like it. Both good too learn
I’m in China now how do I get to buy this? I can’t find it on any online store here.
Hello, nice board. Can you mix a live performance, record in logic and mix in logic for a live stream all at the same time?
Can you record 22 individual tracks simultaneously on Protools?
it seems that way yes
Hi! Did this turn out true? I want to record drums into Pro Tools and not a dumb SD card.
@@Max16032 Really? Would have thought it a bad idea to run phantom power through a dynamic mic
@@Max16032 I've read the same thing.
How does it transfer from TASCAM to DAW? Is it still separated tracks of each channel strip when you transfer it to DAW? Or will it be converted to one stereo track from tascam to DAW?
Separated.
Does it have midi sync?
you did a really good job on that video. well done.
Except for the annoying and loud background music and plosive narrator, yeah.
is it good for banging techno, ..?
My compressors don’t light up when I turn them. Is it broken?
they attack peaks, so try guitar that will wake them up...
This looks more like a live mixer than a studio recorder. Any thoughts?
well it is kinda both
awesome
Need help for beginner live sound: when using as a PA mixer for a venue, how many speakers/wattage should I get??
Depends on capacity of the club.
Can it do midi sync?
Hello!
Press PFL but i do not see on the mix any reaction on the meters (no green/yellow/red) sohow to do it right?
instead of begging youtube, go read the manual that came with your mixer.
make sure you have something making sound coming into the mixer (for example a guitarist strumming chords) then press PFL and slowly turn up the gain until the strumming is just under where it turns yellow. So still in the green but the highest green it can get.
look up lots of videos on youtube by searching 'gain staging' or 'gain staging analog mixer'
@@Max16032 Yeah okay, thanks.
can you load DAW files into this
The major thing I'm confused about is using this for analog mixdown.
That defeats the purpose of the mixer
But can it record to SD WHILE being used as an interface??
We don’t see why not, but it may be worth double checking with Tascam. Though, anything recorded to the SD card can easily be moved to your DAW, and if you’re using the Model 24 as an interface, it may make recording to both the internal SD card as well as your DAW simultaneously unnecessary.
@@BoyntonProAudio Thanks for the reply. Tascam just says 'OR' in most of their promo videos, and redundancy is essential for my work unfortunately.
no, when connected to a comp usb you can't also use the record functions built into the board. the mixer though is still a mixer live and going...
Can I use a Universal Audio la 610 channel strip to record through one of the channels for vocals?
How could I do this?
MrFloridaDave Absolutely. You’d just need an XLR to 1/4” TRS cable, and you’d come out of the UA into one of the line level inputs on the Tascam.
Has anyone had any issues with the Model 24? I’m keen to pick one up and want to hear any good news stories as well as bad so I can make an informed decision.
Thanks!
there's just too few info
It's been two years. Did you ended up buying it or did you went for something else?
It's a pity - the Zoom L-20's seven built-in headphones outputs are more useful to me than all the rows of EQ knobs and longer sliders. I wish that wasn't the case because this Tascam Model 24 is so beautiful !!
There exists lots of headphone amps with many outputs if you need many to monitor on headphone at the same time.
Easily solved by simply breaking out to a headphone amp with separate volume controls for each out.
Does every channel require phantom power
No You could have it on the Non channel and the others and it doesn’t matter as long as it’s not a ribbon Microphone
Hmmm I heard this box is not flexible for overdub recoding ....I use the DP32 but need more inputs for planning ...
You're wrong. You can overdub 8 channels at a time. I have a DP-32. Love it. This will come in handy.
Nice work guys! @tascamsam #TASCAM #MODEL 24
This video implies it but I wanted to be certain as I've seen comments that are kind of confusing to me, in short, if I am trying to record every instrument one at a time (as in I am one man and I can record the drums first, then add the bass, then the guitar etc.) is that possible with this unit? I love that I able to record a live band but I don't always have a live band when I need to record.
yes it can, there's a video on the tone king channel where he and a friend record guitar and drums tracks then play and track the bass
What’s the point of having that EQ?
Without automation or recall it’s sure takes up space
Does it burn cd's like my old DP02?

where are the returns for insert 1 and 2?
with a Y-stereo cable, send and return right with only this insert!
@@amorverdadlovetruth2655 what about the fx out?? :B
Try playing real instrument
Actually, at best, it is a 16 track recorder. Sure, it has other tracks but those cannot be recorded to.

Thanks! -Juan
