Nice review but you haven't mentioned the phantom power button. If I understood well from other videos, the phantom power can be turned on for all channels only, it can't be used just on separate channels? Thanks
No midi like the 12 track verion, no way of syncing to a daw or other machines is a huge mistake, Every version in this line up should have had midi. Also certain features are lost when using via usb. I applaud the simplicity and ease of basic recording but it feels like a step backwards in 2021
I wish wish WISH they would make phantom power individually switchable on the channel strip. That would be an invaluable addition to this mixer/interface.
I’m a controls and cybersecurity expert. I’m building a modification to cut the phantom to each port. When I finish, I’ll come back to this video and update it. I’m trying to minimize the mod to the internals. Maybe it’ll work without making it difficult.

Yes, so you can process the sub stereo with analog gear, if you send all you tracks to the bus and then send it to a compressor/limiter and EQ you'll have a mastered track.
If I record a bass guitar (DI) and let's say it's on ch1 if I then reamp that track and record that into ch2 will there be a significant time difference between the two? And is there anyway to fix this?
It's funny how neither Tascam or Corner Music replies to the questions asked below. No worries... We'll figure it out and then we'll come in and buy from you...
I would want this to just use as an interface to record in my DAW. is it as easy as your average audio interface to use ? I'd not want to use it for live or to use the on-board recording......It's just sooo beautiful lol
This is correct. You can record to the unit and then play back and and mix without the need of a computer. Think of it as an upgraded mixer and audio interface to the Portastudio.
RepublicAllegiance that’s why I’m interested in it my self. I’ve been waiting for something like this for a very long time. I own about 10 synths/sampler units. To be able to record separate tracks of my performances has been a dream. So I will need the model 24 for home, and the model 16 for gigs...lol
Incorrect. Global phantom means every preamp gets phantom power to power condenser mics. Dynamic microphones don't require phantom power but it will not hurt them. You can use both at the same time. ***Phantom power will destroy most RIBBON microphones (except some of the newer ones which may actually require phantom power). If you have any ribbon mics, it's always a good idea to check the specs and make sure you won't blow it up with phantom power! Cheers
How can I boost the sound up? Do I need to buy an amplifier for my main left and right speakers? Or do I need to buy some powered speakers? This will be for live performances and recording at the same time. Thanks
A main out on a mixer is at line level. Speakers need power to function so yes you need an amp to drive any speakers powered speakers have an amp in them. This is some basic beginner level knowledge on equipment.
Unfortunately the Model 24 lacks MIDI integration. You could add a dedicated MIDI interface like the TASCAM US-2x2 and set the combination of the two up as an aggregate device in your computers audio/midi configuration settings for use within your preferred DAW.
@@cornermusic5057 Thanks again! To test it, I borrowed a 2 channel USB Audio Interface that has midi. I was able to connect a crusty old midi controller to my DAW while using the Tascam Model 24 and it works awesome. It would be cool if the Model 24 had midi but i'm stoked that there is a solid workaround.
Hey :) quick question, can I use the aux and fx outputs as effects sends and then return them to a channel? Was hoping to get me one of these beautys and I would love to use some effects pedals as aux effects, Cheers
Great question! You CAN do that as long as the effects pedals you are using accept a line level signal. Most guitar pedals are high impedance instead of line level. Also, effects can be used on the first two channels via inserts. This will also be a line level signal and you'll need insert (send/return) cables.
Corner Music could you use a guitar effect pedal with a DI box? would the DI box go between the fx out and the pedal or between the pedal and the channel input?
Corner Music no sir. i know that is possible. what im asking is, when sending the fx out to a guitar pedal, do you need to use a DI box? thanks for any help
Excuse the mess in this vid I'm about to link. I was able to record, and sync the audio and video, by using the Yamaha EAD10 (stinks), to the Tascam 24 Stereo line. Dear Joe Stopka, can we hope for a *Tascam Model 24/96 Phantom Menace*...? Tascam Model 24's 48KHz resolution limitation prevents any payday with the TV/Movie industry, because they require 24/96 at a minimum. They'll happily take 48/192, but I'd be happy enough hitting their minimum requirement. 2) Why did Tascam make Phantom Power of all things a global on/off...? So I can always only use half of my microphones? Its not like condenser mics are hands down better for everything, to where you could just replace dynamic mics... ~20 more switches couldn't have added that much to the price and neither could 24/96 ADDAs... I really wanted to buy one, but it seems Tascam wrecked this otherwise brilliant device with the lack of 2 crucial features :(
@Builder - Dynamics are not harmed in any way by phantom power. These days there are many ribbon mics that are OK with it. As for the 48KHz resolution... good point.
@@billwhite9703 Thanks for the info on newer Microphones. After reading this, I was going to check if my mics would be ok (they are not new), but then I decided to purchase an A&H SQ-5, which alleviates both issues and very nearly eliminates latency. When I got it, I was initially miffed, that no printed manual was included. But then the mixer impressed me, by how easy and logical it was to use - for someone who had never owned another digital mixer, I had expected a tough learning curve! But this thing explains itself!!
No, and really you don't need it. Just use a drum pedal (such as the Beat Buddy) with a metronome, at least that's what I do. This way you can dial in how much volume you want or turn it off entirely. They also have standalone metronome pedals for pretty cheap.
