    Very good advice. When I was single I had decided that, as a Christian woman, I was not going to share my body with a guy until we were married. That filtered out a lot of guys, even in the Christian community,, but I didn't compromise and I met a guy with the same values. We have been married 21 years. Don't compromise on your values.

      Me too. I always held out on intimacy and spent a lot of time dateless. Once many men find out you won’t put out on the first date, that’s it. POOF! They go. No loss, right? The word goes out that “she’s no fun” and you get the opposite reputation of being a wanton woman. Lots of defensiveness ensues. When I was young and pretty I had plenty of attention paid to me. I would go out with him, and spend the entire evening explaining why I would not “Loosen Up”. Not fun. Frankly exhausting and dispiriting. Glad I am married now, 49 years. It was worth it.

    My mother taught me: "Most things in life are irritations, just irritations. Deal with it, walk away and forget it. Save your anger for what is really important." All of these years later, I can't recall the last time I was angry. But also, I don't live with resentment, bitterness or recrimation. Because, as Mom said, I deal, as Mom did, with forthright, direct honesty. Many people have complimented me on the calm and yes, classy, way that I handle difficult situations. Thanks Mom!

    Your story of the cranky waitress, and your dates poor reaction to her, made me think of an experience of my own. When I was 17 and working at Mcdonalds, we had a regular guest who would yell, belittle, and just be rude in so many ways. I was training a new girl, and this regular guest came up in her line. After the encounter the new girl started to cry as she was talking to me about the experience. Knowing that the guest was within ear shot, I said in a loud clear voice. "Your doing great it's your first day. She is like that to EVERYONE. She may be going through a difficult time in her life right now and WE MAY be the only bit of kindness she gets." Every time I saw this guest after that she had a huge smile on her face, called me sweetheart and sweetie, and opened up to me about recently loosing her husband and how she has two teenage boys to deal with alone. The guest opened up to me more and more each time we spoke. My only regret now upon reflection, is that I didn't see it sooner and reach out to her. I'm sorry that the new girl had to go through that, But the point is, how we react can be lovely, or ugly, because it influences change toward a greater beauty or something more vile.

    The real classy woman is the one who you could go through any type of adversities with. The real class is revealed only in the face of challenges and troubles. As it is very easy to be calm, charming, well mannered and so when your life is fine in general. Yet, the real personality is tested in the critical situations only.

    • @sarahmk2966
      @sarahmk2966 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Well That’s a very negative attitude because I don’t think we have to go through adversities with all the men we are dating in order to prove our class. Our presence our strength of character, accomplishments and the life story we share with them will let them know that we are people who are capable of overcoming adversity ....it shows through your character and manners. I certainly would not want to go thru anymore adversities with a man to prove to him that I have class !!! that mindset is just going to attract BS and Unnecessary problems in your life. And optimistic and positive attitude showman that we have class and making

      @@sarahmk2966 I didn't say that you have to go through adversities to prove your character to any man you date. Your accomplishments and life story is indeed speaking volumes of who you are. Yet, to me the right attitude is the one that helps to keep worthy relationships to last long. To me nothing blinds the person more than unreasonable optimism. Your mindset has nothing to do with chances life brings to you in regard to relationships.. Perhaps we are in different age and social category. Actively dating or being constantly on a hunt for a man is not my type of thing. I solely rely on destiny. My way of being positive is to staying fit and creative no matter what.

    Thank you Mat. Some ideas that my mom taught me growing up in how she thought women could be classy were : no use of foul language, no gum chewing, always have good manners and etiquette. Listening to others without interrupting and actually show an interest in the people around you and to what they are saying. Be kind, don’t judge and that it is ok to be anonymous when being charitable to others. In this day and age, being classy is not having your phone attached to you while on a date or at dinner while sharing someone else’s company. Insignificance towards others is definitely NOT CLASSY. Love your channel!

    I think being classy is by having boundaries. When a woman sets certain standards that a man needs to achieve in order to be fully be with her shows that the woman is of high value. By making yourself accesible to men truly digrades a woman's elegance and men are more likely to see her as a pushover than a woman of high value.

  • @caroct134
    @caroct134 2 ปีที่แล้ว +172

    To me its not just about classiness. It is about maturity. The thin line between these is razor sharp. When feelings are hurt, we can cross over very quickly and IDK about other women but when I feel disrespected by anyone I dont confront it immediately (because I have class and I don’t like to hurt others internationally ) BUT I also know that I don’t like that feeling and it takes time to mull over those emotions to rise above others words or actions. Sometimes stepping back is the easiest thing when you are mature enough to do so. Maturity is key.

    • @christinewhitehair6889
      @christinewhitehair6889 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Spot on! When someone disrespects you, you know that person will never be someone you would be friends with. So honestly you really don't care what that person thinks, to the point you just walk away and forget the incident and them.

    • @jakitaprice9633
      @jakitaprice9633 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I would argue that maturity is having the EMOTIONAL REGULATION to actually CONFRONT the issue ASAP.
      People are only allowed to disrespect you and others because they aren't confronted at the time the issue happens.
      Work on mulling those emotions a little quicker-- dont be the one taking up your valuable time with that person's energy. Eliminate it by giving it back to them; you'll be helping yourself and other after you :)

    • @SA-yd1xk
      @SA-yd1xk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I’ve learned not to react to being disrespected as I’ve learned to control my temper. I’ve come to understand it’s not about me but them. I’m fine. They are the ones with the issues as far as I’m concerned. At a less heated moment if it’s a situation where I’m in contact with the person I ask them why they behaved as they did and if there is anything going on with them I can help with. Works almost all the time. I’ve had people breakdown and share deep challenges and hurts they are going through. It it’s just a casual contact I just walk away. They are irrelevant to my life and I forget all about them almost immediately. I wasn’t always like this but boy do I have peace in my life now.

    One of the things that has served me well, is using the other person's name in conversation. Whether it's my date, a co-worker, my neighbor, the barista at the coffee shop, etc, etc. It helps me focus on giving that person my undivided attention, however brief that may be. I think most people appreciate that. In the more frequent times that I forget someone's name, I'll simply say, "Forgive me, I know we've met, but don't recall your name", and then make a joke about being a senior citizen. It breaks the tension. All the best...Mark

    • @marjoriemorris5849
      @marjoriemorris5849 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s all good up until you make jokes about senior citizens. Living a long life is a privilege and it’s understandable if not everyone is in perfect health in advanced age, so if you compare forgetting someone’s name to being a senior citizen, that’s not very sensitive.
      It would be classier, if you feel that forgetting the person’s name requires explanation, to chalk it up to information overload, which nearly everyone can relate to, and also doesn’t belittle an entire category of people.
      When you first learn someone’s name, really listen to it, use it in conversation with that person, write it down later, and if you do forget it, ask them how they spell their name. It’s a reasonable question anyway and shows you care. Plus it helps you commit their name to memory, and it averts embarrassment of forgetting it.

    I was curious to watch this video because of the title. However, I didn't finish it because I realized that it was just talking points. It is very simple: A person who has class, regardless of his/her social and economic status, has class. You just need to have good manners, be educated, knowledgeable, kind, not to get drunk, loud, rude, vulgar, have good taste in clothes and food, know how to behave in different social situations and environments, etc. I talk and treat everybody the same from the person who cleans the bathrooms (whom I really appreciate) to my friends who are literally millionaires and anybody in between. You can not learn class. You are born with it! In my humble opinion

    Posture...posture is very important at the same time carrying yourself with all the confident qualities you mentioned. You have to be comfortable in your own skin and believe in yourself know your a good person with a good heart but also realizing at the same time there is no such thing as perfection Treating others as we wish to be treated shouldn't be a hard thing to do if you are genuine. I've always carried myself well no matter what the circumstances. And a note to those young ladies and or women out there who's perception is ...acting like this by carrying yourself well does not make you self absorbed or stuck up or better than anyone else you don't have to have a lot of money to carry yourself well. I know women that don't carry themselves well and I know they are very capable of doing so but they feel to insecure to act in this manner they don't feel pretty or they don't have what others have they compare themselves to others they don't feel important enough. I personally don't come from a family that had a lot and I'm surely not a beauty queen but I am beautiful inside I definitely have my flaws and qwirks like anyone else I don't feel I have to wear the best clothes. Girls🖐️ you can look great in anything if you know your value. We are all beautiful on the inside no matter what we do not have and what we have been through. . Second note.....who you are you draw too you and what you put out into that universe you get back....good OR bad. If you do t know your value you need to find it because you have it☝️☝️☝️ NO MATTER what you've been through and what you do not have...you absolutely without a doubt MATTER. If you cannot find your value if you cannot find your beauty then you just let me know 😉♥️God bless all you beautiful women out there .👋☺️

    Thankyou for inviting my comments . Something that is very important to me is the manner in which I treat people. Along the lines of your point about the ideal of self-respect and not feeling as though you need to make others like you, I do not cow -tow or saddle up to someone who seems worthy of my respect and then conversely demean or show a form of disdain for someone who doen’t; male or female. How we treat those people whom we feel we do not need speaks volumes about who we are. CEO or blue collar worker, highly attractive or rough around the edges, I strive to treat people equally. I want others to see me as beautiful inside as out, but not because I want their attention, strictly because I believe in treating everyone by the same standard.it is an ugly trait to show one face to “little people” and a complete different face to “important” ones. I like to remember that we never know when we have entertained angels unaware!

    Matt, I absolutely love the information you provide in your videos, I find myself saying.."yes!" as I listen to your content. Classy to me is wishing someone well as you walk away from them. I was lied to repeatedly, I was fortunate enough to found that my instincts were spot on! I did let him know what I discovered about his true self. I decided to walk away with my class and dignity, divulging what I found out, but doing it in a classy way, no harsh words, but wanting to feel good about myself at that moment with no regrets about how I handled it. I expressed myself, but not in an angry way, in a classy way. It helped me positively move forward and I handled it on my terms. Felt so good to leave him that way! Thanks again for all your positive content!

    For me being classy means - knowing your self-worth, acting and reacting in a way which is respectful to yourself (this is subjective), having boundaries and knowing when to walk away - eg when you have given someone a chance and knowing when enough is enough. This is all linked to confidence too.

    I believe the first few dates should be about having fun. Keep the conversation light and don’t talk about heavy serious stuff. It’s not a job interview it’s a conversation. When you talk without an agenda you’ll find out more than you think you would. Just focus on the moment and enjoy each other and what’s happening on the date.

    I totally agree with these important aspects of being classy. I was recently asked what I am passionate about. I realized that I was in a lull in my life about being passionate about things. It inspired me to wake up to things I was passionate about. So, I would say, be classy, but be aware of what you are passionate about. It will help with your confidence and make you more interesting as well, I think, but it is healthy for you. Besides, it takes a lot of energy to be rude or small minded. You feel better about yourself acting with class.

    Always be kind and respectful. Don't tolerate bad behavior on any level. Know that you are worthy and don't settle. Be honest about what you want in life and in a partner.
    Just know that sometimes the timing may not be right because of a person's journey at that moment.
    Try to end things on good terms.

    I love how you brought up a woman who in a classy way, let the man she was with know that he didn't know anything about her. SOOOOoooo many people, both men and women NEVER ask a person, whether it's a woman or man, ANYTHING about them, which comes across like they just aren't interested. I have a kinda of friend who told me "I figure if it's something they want to talk about, then they will, otherwise I don't ask" as in they are coming across as nosey, but I told her, "It could come across that you aren't interested in that person at all." I could write biographies on most people I know, but on me? Almost nothing. It's not that hard to be a mystery woman afterall.

      @Stacy Ash: A man who presents himself in a perfect light and tries to sweep you off your feet is a big red flag. An authentic person is being themselves and not putting on airs. So really getting to know someone is so crucial. How many women have sex with a man soon after meeting him? That can artificially create intimacy that is not matched emotionally and it becomes easier to get sucked into a negative relationship. By just dating and having long conversations, you get more and more information about that person so that they can't keep up a false front

We've been married for 11 years and we still laugh alot, mostly over the dumbest things. We're like a great comedy duo together. I have a serious camera phobia though that I've had since I was a child, so we can't do videos, as much as I'd love to share our experiences on my channel. I have no idea where the phobia came from but when a camera came out from the time I was 8, I used to dive into bushes, under cars, behind trees, etc. I have at the most...1 picture for every 5 years of my life. I'm 60 now, hence my non smiling profile pic. 😄
