A question I have, is, if a man is content and happy with his wife, why then does he still have to infringe/delve into intimacy with other women ? I have experienced so many married men approach me for affairs even though they claim to be happy with their wives'. It should have been emotionally impossible, yet we see that it is not only possible but that they actively go chasing it.
Hug him. Guys love physical contact. Hug him, lean toward him when talking, take his hand, sit with your knees touching, stuff like that. If you're eating a meal together, offer him something of yours, like if you've got a cookie, split it in half and offer half to him. Chances are, he'll feel the urge to do something similar and also want to share with you. This creates a closeness that's really nice and comfortable for both of you. This is what's worked for me. It may not work for you, but that's my advice.

Hi Mat. Today I had an appointment with an amazing man (2nd visit). He pulled out a chair for me while I waited. Wow. I greeted him with a smile and eye contact, thanked him in advance as I had forgotten to do so last visit. I paid close attention and held space while he shared a few things with me. He revealed that he is a softie, (well he is a top martial artist and very powerfully built, even intimidating), he lives with his daughter ie: is single, he is super neat, and I responded "I noticed". He made a comment about his hair style (on that I just smiled.) In short, he couldn't do enough for me. Last thing I said" I would talk another time with him " as our time was up. He was open and vulnerable to me which I really appreciated and I credit you for getting me up to speed. Oh yeah, he finished by saying I was welcome to come back 2 or 3 times. Yeay.
Things I do is be myself and follow through! If I say I want to try something, then I better be ready to do it! If I say I want to go somewhere, then I better be packed and ready! Make you actions match your words. Totally attractive.

I get the "willingness to receive help" because men want to feel needed. My boyfriend (haha, we're both well into middle age) will say I'm "independent". When he says this, I tell him I'm "self-sufficient" because I've been on my own for so long that I just do what needs to be done. I've gotten better at asking him to help, even though I could do it myself. I do get annoyed though when he takes over, instead of just helping. I think this is another male tendency from the desire to be needed, to be "the provider". On the other hand, if I offer help or make a suggestion, he takes it as I think he can't do it. I have to remind him that it's never because I don't think he isn't capable but that I was taught to be helpful and I don't like to see him struggle.
This last one is so true. I have fallen in love and broken free and I realized I never let myself feel love before. I either didn't allow it to happen and quickly ended it or was with men who weren't a good match and convinced myself it was love but it really wasn't and there was always doubts but this guy is the real deal. It's not just love but also peace and I also let him help me in ways I never have let anyone help me before. Sometimes it's hard. It's more because I know he has a lot on his plate and I want to make life easier for him.

He also allows me to be me without feeling like I can't be whole self. He accepts every part of me. Yes, you should be fully present no matter who is there and no matter what their reaction is but this makes it so much better. He also always seems to tune in just when I need him. Like today he was miles away for work but he knew I was having a tough time with my new boss and sent me a supportive message.
Did all of this with a crush I had for a couple years recently. Even let him know about the crush. He said he always thought I was sexy, but he doesn’t have time for a relationship. He put up a roadblock instantly! It’s like a switch flipped and he turned into another person! I thought he was cool… but turns out he’s a nut. Kinda juvenile. If this was supposed to be reverse psychology for me to chase him and get him to see I’m a catch, forget about it! That’s too much work.

Loving your advice about men. It is quick, and directly to the point. I am very old fashioned, and a perfect gentleman, loyalty, honesty, and value and respect is what I am looking for. Like that knight on a white horse kind of man, that has never been married, and has NO CHILDREN AT ALL. Plus I am a hopeless romantic at heart. Tired of attracting the wrong guy!!
To get all of that, in a man who's never been married and has no children, I'm hoping you're looking for someone in his early 20s! Men like you describe are snapped up fast while young; I've found that they are typically available only after divorce, being widowed, etc., often through no fault of their own. Yes, they have been married, and likely have kids. Unless you're looking for a very young man, maybe you need to be a wee bit more understanding, and focus on becoming all that you demand in a partner.

oh god.. please.. basic knowledge of how to make a relationship lasts... the best relationship advice coming from someone who has been in a 17 years relationship with someone, please read the book Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How It Can Help You Find-and Keep-Love: . a therapist gave me this tip.. you will understand the basic dynamics of what takes to have a long term relationship. the key is secure attachment. most people are messed up, especially men. a lot of men are avoidant. unless people work on themselves... relationships won't work, I had a very secure relationship for 17 years...

Give him a definite timeline: how he really feels about you, when you can meet his daughter, etc. 10 months is a long time for him to still feel uncomfortable with you. Look up Avoidant Attachment. That could help you in figuring him out and what to do next.

Do you know why women don't let men to help them like carrying a simple suitcase? 'Cause they are aware when things get worse, men will become the most horrible creatures ever. So, something like "being kind to you" will become a weapon to make you feel devastated. For this reason women tend to stay in their masculine energy, like a sort of self protection.
I've never met a woman that carries the luggage for that reason, and I'm sorry for what you've gone through. Delia my heart goes out to you because I can fully embrace and understand what you're saying. Sadly so many women have been in these abusive relationships in which they have learned they have to do everything themselves. Take time to heal your inner wounds and get to the root of why you attracting these type of people in your life. Through inner healing self love, trust and acceptance in time you will be able to learn to trust others again. Matt, I initiated a conversation with a guy I found very attractive and funny. We had a great, long conversation and it seemed like we had good chemistry. He said he enjoyed the conversation, gave me his phone number and asked me out. Before saying yes, I asked if he was seeing someone. I reasoned that he had a very young daughter and had at least been in a significant relationship recently. He was kinda wish washy about the answer which was kind of a let down after a great convo. He said he was currently single, but unsure if he was going to reunite with his daughter’s mother in the future. So I told him I was attracted to him and I really enjoyed the conversation, but I said no to the date. I didn’t want to put myself in a situation where I could potentially get hurt. Was this the right move? He said he felt like one date wasn’t a big deal and he was currently single. An independent woman can be very sexy. But she has to show a vulnerable side. Someplace where the man can be the man. Women, mostly, are able to be confident because that's who they are. They don't need a man to tell them they're pretty or smart etc. They already know it. Doesn't mean we don't like to hear it. I get the "willingness to receive help" because men want to feel needed. My boyfriend (haha, we're both well into middle age) will say I'm "independent". When he says this, I tell him I'm "self-sufficient" because I've been on my own for so long that I just do what needs to be done. I've gotten better at asking him to help, even though I could do it myself. I do get annoyed though when he takes over, instead of just helping. I think this is another male tendency from the desire to be needed, to be "the provider".
On the other hand, if I offer help or make a suggestion, he takes it as I think he can't do it. I have to remind him that it's never because I don't think he isn't capable but that I was taught to be helpful and I don't like to see him struggle.

This last one is so true. I have fallen in love and broken free and I realized I never let myself feel love before. I either didn't allow it to happen and quickly ended it or was with men who weren't a good match and convinced myself it was love but it really wasn't and there was always doubts but this guy is the real deal. It's not just love but also peace and I also let him help me in ways I never have let anyone help me before. Sometimes it's hard. He also allows me to be me without feeling like I can't be whole self. He accepts every part of me. Yes, you should be fully present no matter who is there and no matter what their reaction is but this makes it so much better. He also always seems to tune in just when I need him. Like today he was miles away for work but he knew I was having a tough time with my new boss and sent me a supportive message.

Give him a definite timeline: how he really feels about you, when you can meet his daughter, etc. 10 months is a long time for him to still feel uncomfortable with you. Look up Avoidant Attachment. That could help you in figuring him out and what to do next.

Matt, I initiated a conversation with a guy I found very attractive and funny. We had a great, long conversation and it seemed like we had good chemistry. He said he enjoyed the conversation, gave me his phone number and asked me out. Before saying yes, I asked if he was seeing someone. I reasoned that he had a very young daughter and had at least been in a significant relationship recently. He was kinda wish washy about the answer which was kind of a let down after a great convo. He said he was currently single, but unsure if he was going to reunite with his daughter’s mother in the future. So I told him I was attracted to him and I really enjoyed the conversation, but I said no to the date. I didn’t want to put myself in a situation where I could potentially get hurt. Was this the right move? He said he felt like one date wasn’t a big deal and he was currently single. I thought about him after and wanted to reach out more, but I didn’t want to send mixed messages since I did say no ( but honestly didn’t want to). He hasn’t reached out again. I respect his prior relationship/family, but is it wrong for me to want to stay on his radar if that relationship doesn’t work out? Should I keep friendly conversation going?
