FACT: My grandmother lived to 101 and she always had had two cups of (cold) black coffee every day. Even at 101 yrs old she was still sharp as a tack and “with it” mentally. She would have lived longer but was a passenger in a car accident and died from her injuries. R.I.P. Nana! ❤

My grandma lived to be 100, also quite cognitively sharp and still participating in social activities. I don’t think grandma drank her coffee cold, but in my younger years I think she could drink an entire pot of coffee herself.
My dad’s oldest sister lived into her 90s, also with good mental acuity. She preferred her coffee quite strong, and her grandson was able to convince the administrator of the nursing home she eventually went to to allow her to keep her coffee maker in her room.
Alas, I did not inherit the coffee appreciation gene.

We South Indians have a habit of drinking filter coffee (the one he is holding) at least 2-3 times a day. One before breakfast, very early in the morning, after breakfast and then in the evenings. There are so many reasons why it's considered a healthy habit around here and the weather supports it too. Even youngsters love to wake up early and have a cup of this after breakfast in traditional self-service restaurants. Very common here and very healthy. The older I get, the more I have started to appreciate the older food/drink related rituals. They make more sense now.

I worked at Sbux for a decade and drank an average of 4-16oz of espresso a day…
