At a convention some years ago, there was a little girl who dressed up as Jyn Erso, and she gave a little prop disk of the Death Star plans to everyone dressed as Leia.
“I AM ONE WITH THE FORCE, AND THE FORCE IS WITH ME.”. As this is my last request, I wanted to thank you all once again for all the joy you have brought me from, watching and enjoying my pics. A lot of these are some of my favorite movies and it really has meant a lot to me to be able to share them with you
May the force be with you always.
Don't be a stranger; just be strange.
Why your last request?
Thank you for requesting this. Very much appreciated ❤
And with you!!
Sorry to hear this is your last request. I hope everything is ok.
The woman in the council was Mon Mothma, who you saw in the briefing scene in Return of the Jedi, and in this time frame is a member of the Imperial Senate. The man was Bail Organa of Alderaan, Leia's adoptive father. His jedi friend he needed to get a message to was Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi, and his courier, who "I would trust her with my life," was Leia.
Actually by this point in the timeline, I am pretty sure that she had publicly spoken out against the Emperor and been forced to flee, with some help from the crew of the Ghost, as we see in the episode of rebels she appears in. She would have lost her Imperial senate seat by this point in the timeline I am pretty sure.
Mon Mothma was also the hardest goddamn card to find in the topps Jedi set. After buying untold packs I went to a comic shop, rare in those days, and bought it for like a nickel. I still twitch when I hear that character's name.
By this point in the timeline Mon Mothma has already left the Imperial Senate (which happens in Star Wars Rebels season 3 in the episode 18 'Secret Cargo')
It's time Ashley. You need to properly do the Star Wars franchise!! Plus it's a nice refresher from the whole super hero genre. Nothing wrong with it, but you don't want to find yourself being burnt out or have that feeling that it's being repetitive!!
That "I would trust her with my life," and the little smile as he thinks about her, chokes me up every damn time.
Rogue One actually feels like a war movie, which is crucially missing in a lot of Star Wars films.
There was originally much more war content but it was reshot into what we see here. i would love to see the original edit with all of the battle scenes.
Except for that scene at the end with Vader, which was straight-up horror movie.
28:56 "Red Five is gone." Yes, and that's why in A New Hope there was an opening for Luke to join the squadron. He flies Red Five during the Battle of Yavin.
Also why Blue Squadron gets wiped out. They actually filmed scenes with Blue Squadron for a New Hope, even had trading cards featuring them, but then in post production they realized they were using blue screen which would cause issues when layering (same as when a weatherman wears green in front of the projector.
@Mauther With this movie, Blue Squadron were like the elites.
@@Mauther They were the stealth squadron.
Rogue One was so good. I was surprised at how well crafted it was when it came out. I can't believe it's been 7 years since it came out.
Shame it was the only good Disney Starwars movie..
Grand Moff ( Governor ) Tarkin in this movie was a motion capture/CGI version of Peter Cushing who had died in 1994. It was wonderful to see him represented in this prequel to A NEW HOPE.
And unlike WB regarding the likeness of Christopher Reeve in "The Flash", Disney got permission from the estate of Peter Cushing to use his likeness and voice in this film. I think the VFX people did a wonderful job. There were a few times where it was more obvious, but mostly I think it worked putting Cushing's face over a stand-in actor.
Also, Peter Cushing's likeness actually came from his Sven Jorgensen mask in the move "Top Secret!" There is a good story online from Tom Spina Designs. I believe ABC also do a bit on it.
@@JeshuaSquirrel Must have been a bit of a bummer for the stand-in actor! Telling all his mates that he was in the new Star Wars movie . . . but with Van Helsing's dead face on instead of his own . . . I guess Dave Prowse would be able to sympathise. (Still not as bad as it must have been for Daisey Ridley and John Boyega when they had to finally admit to family and friends that they were in TFA . . . I still feel embarrassed for them!)
Pretty good effort.
My opinion is that CGI characters like this are about 95% right, it’s just that the last 5% still stands out a lot.
They worked so hard to make 2015 CGI look like 1977 practical effects and I will always love this movie for that ❤
Mon Mothma was referring to Obi Wan when she was referring to "your Jedi friend" when talking to Bail Organa. And when he said "I trust her with my life." He was talking about Leia.
This is where it would have been better to watch the prequels before this one. She had no idea who Bail was. If she had watched the prequels she would know who he was (hopefully though this is Ashleigh we are taking about 😂)
@@DaleKingProfileBut there's no need to know who Bail is in this movie. And when she watches the prequels and sees him again, the "pieces of the puzzle" start coming together -- as intended.
@@DaleKingProfileI see on her channel that she did watch the prequels. She doesn’t know or remember what she’s watched.
He's Talking about Ahsoka. She is the rebellions Fulcrum at this point.
@@MisterPunch19he's talking about how to get the Death Star plans to Obi wan. Leia takes the plans to Obi wan. Bail trusts his daughter with his life. Context matters.
I love the ending of this movie for the same reason many people do. The realization that the ship that escapes from Vader with the plans at the end of Rogue One is the very same ship being chased by the star destroyer at the beginning of Star Wars (EP IV) A New Hope. Another great movie reveal that you get right at the end of a film.
This movie is literally the story of the opening crawl of “A New Hope”.
Duh
I consider this movie the TRUE "Episode III," with Revenge of the Sith being the true Episode II, Attack of the clones being the true Episode I, and then pretending that The Phantom Menace never happened at all. Such fantasizing makes me happier about the prequels. lol
@@jacob4920 Without Phantom Menace Attack of the Clones doesn't make sense - it sets up Anakin's motivation, political conflict, Palpatine's game and Obi-Wan's relationship with Anakin.
@@Сайтамен Like I said. My personal preference. And I'm enough of a Star Wars nerd that I don't need Episode I for everything to make sense to me.
@@TravioliRavioli you say "Duh" but she clearly did not know that
When Chirrut (the blind man) says to Jyn, “May the force of others be with you”, instead of, “May the force be with you”, that was what people said to each other when going their separate ways in the original version of the script for ‘A New Hope’, but it was changed before the final version.
The Jedi he was referring to was Obi Wan. He trusted Leia (with his life) to give Obi the message/plans
I almost hate to say it, since I was 7 when I first saw Star Wars IV in the theater in the 70's, but I think this might be the best SW movie of them all. The CGI is obviously better now than the special effects we had then, but it's more in the character development. The ending, with pretty much all the main characters dying, is gut wrenching... but also makes sense since we don't see them in IV. The scene with Darth Vader in the dark, then the breathing, then the lightsaber ignites... and then Vader goes full murder mode... I think that was one of the most badass scenes, ever. The way the tied the high and low moments, the way they got you to care about these characters so their deaths were all that more impactful, and the way they tied a new movie into the original trilogy- magic.
Same here, except I was 12 (in Eastern Europe, so it was 1979). Completely agree. The top three on my list are 1. Rogue One, 2. Episode V, 3. Episode IV . 4. Episode III, 5. Solo. Then nothing for a long way, until Episode VI and Episode VII. The rest I can live without.
I agree. I also watched it in 1977 and this one is the prequel the original series deserved. A hug friend
@bessarion1771 so you don't like a new hope??
They had to die tho. She literally said "many died for this information"
@@demogorgonn LOL. I just realized I missed it. New Hope is right behind Episode V. So it should be #3 on my list. I'll correct it.
I loved this movie because of it is the vibe of a modern military or spy thriller. You feel like you're on the ground in combat zones, similar to a movie like Black Hawk Down. It just feels different than any other Star Wars film I've seen and I loved that. Also, this movie gave us the terrifying Vader that we all have wanted and deserved.
Yeah that Vader scene at the end was so chilling in the theathers.
@@Klaital1 I was in the theaters and thought "oh shit, they're not going to make it!" I literally forgot there were more movies, lol. I know it was a last-minute addition, but I really like it. I think it makes Leia even braver in Episode IV. She's lying through her teeth to Vader but she has diplomatic immunity, so it's worth a shot!
Ashley: Completely nails the timing to the intro to the movie.
Also Ashley: Completely misses there was no opening crawl to this movie.
Never change Ashley! 🤣🤣🤣
She missed a lot. Jyn is a jedi, Leia still a child, early vader before he wear the suits of armor, Grand Moff Tarkin's actor been dead for years now, she even forgot the Death Star in a movie is the one that Luke will blow up in Ep 4
This movie is always a little bittersweet for me. The first time I saw it was the day that Carrie Fisher passed away. My friend and I had literally just sat down in the theater, and he decided to check his phone one last time before shutting it off before the trailers started. That's when he saw the news and showed it to me. So, when Princess Leia showed up at the end it was hard to keep the emotions in check.
For me it was impossible, I wept for 10 minutes.
Same, I was traveling to New Zealand at the time and learned of Carrie's passing when I landed. Saw Rogue One that day at the Imax knowing nothing about it, and wept in the cinema at the end!
Just wasn't expecting it.
What broke me was her mother Debbie Reynolds passing away the very next day
Same! I was sitting in the theatre before the movie started and found out she passed. Made the last scene that much more Epic!!!
Having grown up as a kid and teen in the 70s and 80s, and being a massive fan of this franchise since the first time I saw the first movie the summer it was released; then becoming a fan of her as an author when I started reading her books in my 20s, then struggling with addiction in my 30s and having a best friend diagnosed with bipolar disorder, I became an even bigger fan of her as a strong advocate for mental health. When she passed away it was like there were several entities to mourn. ❤❤❤
My favorite observation is that this ending makes the beginning of new hope absolutely hilarious; Vader LITERALLY WATCHED leia's ship leave with the plans, he chased them into that ship, and when he catches her all she has to say is "no you didn't, I'm on a diplomatic mission"?! 😂 Omg LEIA
She just gutsy like that. Can you imagine meeting Wizard Hitler and when he accuses you of something you just did having the the guts to tell him he's mistaken?
In her defense, the Tantive IV was a diplomatic cruiser that was like, dime a dozen among the diplomats and senators. It's like saying "the perpetrators drove a white van" but not having the license plates, and then attacking a random company car.
@@snorpenbass4196 a white van he chased directly from the battlefield! 🤣
@@jasenjacobs1365 it's giving Monty Python 🤣
When I saw this in the theater, the moment that Gold Leader and Red Leader appeared on the screen, there was a wave of applause from the audience. It was even bigger than when Leia appeared.
I became a huge fan of Blue Squadron and Blue Leader after this movie. Loved the actor's 70s style mustache.
@@zomish13 In the original draft of A New Hope, the X-Wings were called Blue Squadron, with Luke being Blue 5.
@@darrenheideman2546 If I remember correctly they had to change them to Red Squadron because they were using Blue Screen for the SFX.
Carrie Fisher died 2 weeks after this movie came out. Due to the holidays, I wasn't able to see this movie on opening weekend. I saw this the night after she'd died - seeing her at the end was quite tear-jerking
I should think it would be, considering how creepy Leia looked.
This is the only star wars movie I've actually been able to get emotionally invested in! The story of the people who got their hands dirty, doing the dirty work so that people like Luke, Leia, and even han could be the spotless figureheads, along with mon motha. War isn't black and white and I really loved how this movie showed the harder, grittier sides of it while still having that dash of star wars hope
I think that's what makes the Andor series so great and especially the character Luthien Ryal. He's the monster in the shadows, doing terrible things so others can walk in the light
It's Andor you need to see - proper emotions in that one ... even DIRTIER work.
12 episodes of espionage superbness played by elite level actors (even the supporting ones), on proper practical sets or in beautiful actual locations
It boasts the best monologues in Star Wars, several times over
It's surely the best craftsmanship of any Star Wars TV show ever made
Any show that can turn an Imperial round-table discussion into must-see entertainment surely deserves your attention!
@@jazzx251 Ive heard nothing but great things about the show, and I was SO happy and relieved to hear it was being made because I know Diego Luna is a huge star wars nerd, super passionate, and the movie flew a little bit under the radar so I was worried it would get shoved under the rug a bit
@@QuestionableLifeChoices It had 1 trailer that I could see (a very good one) ... but previous poor shows had led to Star Wars burnout by the time Andor was released ...
The lack of marketing was also probably because of how different it is to the likes of Ashoka .. which came out next.
Disney didn't want to ruin loads of their other Star Wars shows by marketing Andor, rightly, above the trash that was coming out at the same time
But they didn't skimp.
Andor got 24 episodes bought and paid for - $250 million [filming has just finished for series 2, the final series - as planned]
I believe those are the most generous terms ANY Star Wars TV show has ever got ...
It is an utter masterpiece that goes well beyond the Star Wars we've come to know.
@@jazzx251that's genuinely so great to hear. i don't watch much tv (streamed or otherwise) but andor is definitely one i keep in the back of my mind for if and when i might want to try something new. again, i'm just so glad that my favorite (overlooked) star wars got such love put into it with andor, instead of something that's fun but ultimately meh.
CGI looking dude is a actor who was in the original movies he has since passed away, they got permission from his family to use CGI to put him into the film.
Peter Cushing, playing Grand Mof Tarkin. Cushing was pretty famous in his day. He played Van Helsing opposite Christopher Lee's Dracula in loads of Hammer horror films. They were good freinds.
The part were Admiral Raddus says: “Rogue one, may the force be with you” is so soul crushing.
Every time I watch that hallway scene with Darth Vader at the end, I can’t help but think, “Tonight the part of Darth Vader will be played by Jason Voorhees.”
There's a TH-cam video: "Stormtroopers, but. They're ACCURATE".
I'm 52 now and remember seeing The Empire Strikes Back in the theatre. Like many, I always held that Empire was the best Star Wars movie ever. And then I saw this.
Same for me
I love Rogue One
Same
There was a line in A New Hope. A lot of good people died to get us these plans
That was Return of the Jedi.
@nealwhaley63 which resulted in a joke that went around when this movie came out: "They're saving the Bothans for Rogue Two."
(No, Ashleigh, there is not a movie called "Rogue Two")
Yeah, the Bothan spies got their hands on the plans for Death Star II which actually was a setup by Palpatine.
Saw all of these at the theather, going all the way back in 1977. Scarif was the battle I had been waiting for since 1983. Seeing this in the theather I was amazed
The Jedi Senator Organa was referring to was Obi Wan Kenobi. He was referring to “her” (Princess Leigha) as the messenger to contact Obi Wan to deliver the plans. Because episode 4 A New Hope starts immediately after Rouge One.
Rogue. But yes.
Leia
so its like a Reddish One?
The reason this movie doesn’t have the classic Star Wars text crawl at the beginning is because this whole movie is the text crawl for A New Hope… or so the theory I saw online goes, and now I’m repeating it here, so it’s a fact!
So glad you are back in Star Wars! More please!
I loved the line "The Rebellion is here" and we hear the heroic Rebels theme. People in my theater just popped hard when the Rebellion arrived.
Alan Tudyk was GREAT as K-2SO, and I love that Peter Cushing, basically, got to star in a movie _after he passed away_ because Tarkin was way too important for this story to be left out. Doctor Who explained it as _actually_ being The Doctor becoming friends with Mister Cushing himself after Peter Cushing starred as "Doctor Who" in a couple of American-made movies about the exploits of The Doctor. (Which actually exist in our world; the joke is that they also exist in the Doctor's world and most people only _think_ it's fiction.)
I love all the little continuity details they put in this movie. One of my favorite is that you see Red 5 die, which leads to Luke taking over that spot.
My favorite is seeing Ponda Baba (still with his arm) and Dr. Evazan from the Mos Eisley cantina (New Hope) in Jedha.
The "Jedi" friend that was referred to was Obi-Wan Kenobi. The "she" referred to was Princess Leia. The "guy" on the council was Bail Organa, Leia's adopted father. That is why he trusted her with his life.
Fun fact: this movie is the first time we see Darth Vader's home, and it literally overlooks the volcano where he was burned in his fight against Obi-Wan. Out of all the locations in the universe, he intentionally had his estate built there so that he would never forget who he is now. (LucasFilm had been trying to work this idea into the movies ever since the original trilogy in the late '70s, and they finally got the chance with Rogue One.)
And in old lore, it was a Sith stronghold called Vjun, a planet strong in the Dark Side, and plagued by acid rain storms.
The man who said “I’d trust her with my life” is Bail Organa who helped Obi Wan and Yoda escape in Revenge of the Sith and also adopted Leia at the end of that movie. When they asked about his Jedi Friend they were talking about Obi Wan but he was actually sending Leia. This movie takes place right before the original so Leia is about 19 in the timeline. Also jyn is not a Jedi.
10:57 11:54 14:05 lol hahahahahahaha!!!!!!
22:34 That’s not Admiral Ackbar, but I understand the confusion. He’s actually Admiral Raddus. By the way, I’m also glad Jimmy Smitts returned to portray Bail Organa.
Dude, I’m so glad you’re diving back into Star Wars. For many Rogue One is top tier. Stef Solari, Kim Ellendale, Sebscreen, and The Perfect Mix among other reactors would agree.
You probably don’t remember, but some of the actors in this movie have also portrayed a character in the MCU. Mads Mikkelsen (Galen Erso) was Kaecillius in Doctor Strange 2016, Forest Whitaker (Saw Gerrera) was Z’uri in Black Panther 2018, and Ben Mendelsohn (Orson Krennic) was Talos in Captain Marvel 2019.
As for the prequels, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen would mutually agree that the trilogy was underrated by the critics when the films originally premiered. Furthermore, there was no social media. The general public back then had to rely on the critics, but nowadays social media for the most part controls the word of mouth. By the way, Alex Hefner recently reacted to the first six films in the franchise. Now I definitely can’t wait for him to watch this one.
Out of all the deaths, K-2SO was the most emotional. Even as he was on his last knees, he still held on long enough to help his friends achieve their goal. My favorite characters overall were Chirrut Îmwe and Bodhi Rook.
The Ip Man himself Donnie Yen is always a win. I also teared up as Chirrut in his dying words told his friend Baze Malbus to find him in the Force. Chirrut isn't a Jedi, but it's implied that he's Force-sensitive. He was able to sense Jyn's kyber crystal. What's special about kyber crystals is that they're connected to the Force. They're also what give power to the lightsabers.
Bodhi also deserves credit for his contributions to the team. His protocols were highly essential, especially with infiltrating Scarif. By the way, if you put Riz Ahmed on the mic watch out. He’s got mad rapping skills as well.
Diego Luna reprised his role as Cassian Andor for the Spanish dub. He also has his own series titled Andor which takes place five years before the events of Rogue One. And yeah, he dubbed for his show in Spanish as well.
The first season has 12 episodes, and a second season is on the way. The recent strikes delayed production, but Diego recently said that filming is almost complete. There were also plans to make up to five seasons, but after some extensive reviewing they decided to conclude the show with season two.
Also Felicity Jones was Felicia Hardy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and if the third film had happened she might have become Black Cat
Fun fact Ash that sliding door wasn't stuck Darth Vader was holding it shut using the Force while multi-tasking doing his hack and slash. As for the Jedi reference they were referred to Obi Wan Kenobi still out there hiding from the empire.
*Obi-Wan
At 8:56, While walking through the streets, Jyn bumps into Walrus Man (or as Ashleigh refers to him... Ball Sack Chin) and Ponda Baba who exclaims "You just watch yourself"... These are the same 2 that Luke bumps into at the Bar in Mos Eisley's Cantina in Episode IV (A New Hope). "You just watch yourself" is said again just before Obi Wan steps in to defend Luke and cuts off one of Ponda Baba's arms with his Lightsaber.
They had to have gotten out of there before the Death Star destroys the city. Also, 3PO and R2 should be with Leia and not on Yavin IV
It wasn't just Ponda Baba his partner the guy with the messed up face Doctor Cornelius Evizan.
They are wanted men they have the death sentence on 12 systems.
@dirtyhawkstv1575 Leia was there at Yavin IV. Her ship the Tantive IV was on Admiral Raddus' capital ship, which it escapes from at Scarif before Vader reaches it.
@@GenXJen78 but Raddus's ship was already gone when the fleet started to deploy from Yavin 4.
@@GenXJen78 I thought after Mon Mothma asked him about the hidden Jedi, he told Captain Antilles to prepare his ship as if he were going to rendezvous with Leia but thanks for info.
The Darth Vader hallway scene was added well after the movie wrapped.... just a few weeks before the movie premiered. Ended up being one of the best scenes of the movie.
Obi wan was the Jedi that served him well during the Clone Wars. The senator in question was Bail Organa, Leia's adoptive father, whom he trusted with his life.
The best prequel by a country mile! I got very emotional seeing Carrie Fisher on the big screen. Andor has his own tv series, it’s excellent.
The best Star Wars movie, period.
People were asking for a darker Star Wars since the prequels barely showed Vader strutting in his cape, as I recall.
I am so happy to see that you were able to put all this together. Yes, it makes you want to go and rewatch multiple times to get all the backstories and nuances of the story. This is my favorite star wars movie. It ties the whole story back to the very beginning in such a meaningful way.Great job Ashley!
After the original trilogy, this is my favorite Star Wars movie - it showed you could tell a darker story in the overall universe and have it be great. I wish there had been others in this same vein
The making of Rogue One was wild, I read they filmed almost every scene with dialogue in different ways (basically different versions of the movie) then they took the lines and scenes they liked and smashed them together.
This film "making of" is really worth a watch.
That seems a bit insecure of the director.
K2 is voiced by Alan Tudyk. I love him in the tv show Firefly.
7:32 Grand Moff Tarkin, was the villain in the original series played by Peter Cushing, who passed away in 1994. The creators of Rogue One resurrected him through a combination of motion-capture technology and CGI.
Love Rogue One but I wish Tarkin had been left out of this story. It’s probably just a me problem, I get creeped out by the CG face.
@@CrowTRobot Yeah, as much as I love Peter Cushing, they could have written around the character easily (wasn't he off seeing the Emperor or something like that at the very start of A New Hope anyway?)
They used the mask of Peter Cushing that was made of him to movie Top Secret, Val Kilmer first roles, Peter Cushing has a role of Swedish book store owner, they used that face mask to scan his face.
I always wondered if they rendered the carpet slippers Peter wore during filming.
@CrowTRobot Well, without Tarkin, there's no story. It ties into early plot points of A New Hope where there was a subplot where there was suspicions that Tarkin was plotting to use the Death Star to take over the Empire.
Rogue One is essentially Episode 3.9. I love that it gives Darth Vader's line in Episode IV, "There'll be no one to stop us this time." a lot more weight!
I saw this opening night (midnight showing). That scene when the first ship appeared as well as the Death Star appearing in the 3D style was nuts. I love the Darth Vader hallway scene and how this movie ends where A New Hope starts.
When Mon Mothma referred to Bail Organa's "friend, the Jedi", he said "He served me well during the Clone Wars". They were referring to Sir Alec Guinness' Obi-Wan Kenobi who was now hiding on Tatooine to protect Luke. Bail then said he would send for him and Mon Mothma said "You will need someone you can trust", but she was referring not to the Jedi, but to whomever Bail Organa would send to get Obi-Wan. And at that point, when he said he would trust her with his life, he was indeed referring to Leia. But during that mission, she came under attack by Vader, and ended up recording the message pleading "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope" and hid it in R2-D2.
He trusts her with his life and then dies when she can't stop the destruction of Alderaan. Did he put his trust in the wrong person?
This is one of my favorite Star Wars films, the Andor series is a prequel for this movie and I love it too. I can't wait for Andor season 2 and Mandalorian to continue. Thanks for watching this one with us.
Rogue One was filmed on the southern coast of Iceland, the desert in Jordan, the studios in England, and a fabulous paradise-like destination in the Maldives.
This movie came out right around the time of Carrie fishers passing so for many who watched it a few weeks later after she passed it was a surprise but also everyone got emotional at the cameo
The Stormtroopers in white armor are the equivalent of the marines. The troopers in black armor are called Deathtroopers and they are what would their SEALs; They are the elite of the elite
Watching you try to remember everything, and not mentioning recognizing some characters from the ones you saw, I feel like a complete rewatch is a great idea!
Interesting studies about empathy have been done. The more diverse your childhood, the less you see things and people not like you as outsiders. I always see it in reactors. To those of us who grew up watching sci-fi and fantasy films with lots of "weird" creatures, we see new weird creatures as "cool." To those who didn't grow up with that exposure, there is usually an automatic "othering" and they just see them as gross or weird, because they are not of their tribe. The studies were done about race and culture, but it certainly shows through reactions to film as well.
I think reading has a large part to play as well - especially reading Sci-fi and Fantasy novels when we're young. Being 'inside' other characters' heads, and seeing the world, and society, and the people around them through different characters' eyes surely has to expand the reader's tolerance and acceptance of others, and (hopefully) make them more open to new situations, and maybe seeing things from a different point of view - sci-fi and fantasy novels must surely have an even bigger effect as the reader is potentially exposed to cultures and characters that are SO different to the ones we may be familiar with on our home planet. (I'm assuming we're all Human here?) I find it hard to believe that the likes of Dumold Trump, Mad Madge Taylor Greene, Matt Rusty-Gaetz, Cruella Braverman, Niggle Farage, Jacob Rees-Smug etc. were big readers of sci-fi novels when they were growing up.
It was hard on most of us when Carrie Fisher died. But this was a nice tribute to her ties to the first Star Wars.
20:26 Haha! Only Ashley can get away with chuckling while the main character’s father dies in her arms. Love your reactions. Don’t change 😂
I love Rogue One. It's a powerful prequel.
Hammerhead corvette? Sounds like something that you'd get if you took Jaws and mixed it with Prince.
Using a Hammerhead corvette while wearing a Great White beret.
I’m so happy you watched this! I was born in ‘90 but my brother and I were raised on these movies, and to be honest - and I know this is an unpopular opinion - Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars movie. I always cry at the end without fail LOL!
is it unpopular? I don't know that, nor do I care, this is the best Star Wars movie by far, none other is close. I saw the original in the theater a couple of months after it premiered, I was not impressed.
This is such a beautiful movie.
The backdrops, the cinematics, and the effects are all gorgeous.
The lighting effects and reveals they did multiple times really make this stand out, not only from the other Star Wars movies but from a lot of other movies in general. You can really feel the love the creators had for this story. Master class in cinema.
Definitely the best Star Wars movie to come out since Disney took over, and it's prequel, Andor is the best recent Star Wars TV show. Even my parents who are not interested in Star Wars enjoyed it a lot.
Similar to Star Trek, light speed won't cut it. It would still take forever to travel between planets. So Star Trek invented the Warp Drive, which manipulates space time around the ship, creating a sort of wormhole to get to the other side of the galaxy. And Star Wars has Hyperspace, same concept.
7:30 that is a digitally revived peter Cushing, playing the role of Grand Moff Tarkin. that's why he looks kinda CGI, because it is.
8:55 these two are also returning characters from the original movie, that guy with the "chin" get his arm cut off by Obi-Wan not two days later than this.
36:00 Leia was the one Organa trusted with his life, but Leia is entrusted to go to tatooine to contact the Jedi, Kenobi.
Jyn trying not to cry when hearing the message from her dad is one of my favourite Star Wars moments.
Andor is by far the best Star Wars TV show. Definitely worth a watch!
Correct!
I flipped out with amazement when I saw a digital Moff Tarkin. Some people complained about the quality at the time, but I was amazed at the idea of attempting it. This was very early for cinema when it comes to faces. Didn’t get much appreciation or even character recognition in this reaction, but it’s a high point in the movie for me (subordinate to Vaders killing scene of course).
Hey Ashleigh! Shout out from the US Marines! Love your reaction to this! 36:30 Your so right! 34:28 Vader is a beast! Great scene! God your so fun to watch! ❤🤍💙💛
Thank you for your service mate.
I went to see this at the cinema and that scene with Vader going down the hallway just mowing down the rebels gave me chills. One of my favourite scenes in all of the Star Wars series.
One of the all time greatest Darth Vader moments. And a worthy addition to the list of all time great hallway fight scenes. It wasn't in the original cut. It was added during reshoots.
I like to think of Gailen as the Empire's version of "Oppenheimer" he created something unbelievable and then realised the power and the destruction that it could cause, just imagine living with that kind of responsibility..That last Vader scene wasn't even supposed to be in the movie. They came up with it very last minute!. Great Reaction hopefully you will check out "Kenobi " I have a feeling ..
[Not A bad one] that you would enjoy it 😉
I still think this is by far the most visually stunning Star Wars flick.
Adore this film
The black Toopers are called Death Troopers , they are a special squad !
Ashleigh, you mentioned the use of green screens and CGI for special effects and what the actors actually observe. Most recently, in particular, some of the new Star Wars series, filming scenes are often done in a device known as "The Volume." It's essentially a gigantic 360-degree OLED screens that allows the actors to see the same backgrounds that the audience sees. Essentially, it is a large virtual reality stage that surrounds the actors. It's been a really cool advancement in filming scenes that would normally only be able to use green screens.
@@de68a Also, the way the projected image in front of the camera skews for perspective when the camera moves, I'm pretty sure I could spend 60 seconds acting on the Volume before I violently threw up, lol. But it's immersive for the actors and makes the reflective lighting much better. Not just in general but also for things like shiny reflective surfaces and armor!
@@thenathanhaines Yup - the perspective change for the camera is all controlled through the camera tracking in Stagecraft. In Dome type camera filming, its all lens based.
So, a real life Star Trek holodeck?
The voice to the friendly robot is none other than 'Wash' our favourite Firefly pilot
33:36, which makes it even more terrifying. If any planet in the Empire gets deemed a problem, in a few hours the Death Star can pull up and destroy whole cities or the entire thing.
@28:56 "Red 5 is gone." Yes, they put that in the movie to show you that there is an immediate opening for a replacement Red 5 for the Red Squadron of X Wings. That will become Luke's call sign in a few days when he joins the attack on the Death Star.
have you seen the original trilogy lately? he is in EP IV, aka the original Star Wars Movie, Grand Moff (title) Tarkin (name). The actor was Peter Cushing, he died in 1994, so yes it was a CGI with real person acting.
"I'm not always smart."
Good on Editing Ashleigh for not throwing some shade there.
Star Wars The Clone Wars animated series, and Star Wars Rebels are peak Star Wars story telling
"Ye of little faith" I was the proud papa, smiling, hearing you quote Mallrats.
Love the reaction! Also loved how this one branched straight into the original episode 4 a new hope
As sad as it is... I'm glad that they went with what Rogue Squadron is famous for. Doing the impossible, even if costs them their lives.
"The New Republic might promote me and this squadron as immortal and immune to danger, but I know better than that. Two of us, just two, survived Yavin. A half dozen survived Hoth and just four of us lived through Endor. As far as I'm concerned the Death Stars lived up to their names." - Wedge Antilles, Rogue Squadron
The whole ending of this movie was completely reworked after principal filming wrapped. It is surprising how well it came together. But nobody told the maker of the trailer, who included an iconic shot of Jenn Urso facing off against a Tie Fighter... that was not in the final film.
They shot that scene specifically _for_ the trailer, without it being in the film. In the end, it wasn't incorporated into the film.
The Obi Wan series on Disney Plus has many scenes with Leia as a child and her close relation to Obi Wan. When she said, "You're my only hope" it had more meaning than was apparent. It also has the second light saber duel between Obi Wan and Annikin and shows how he got that gnarly scar that you see on the top of his head in "Return Of The Jedi".
There was a fair bit of controversy over this movie. There had been several trailers released that had left viewers with a very different idea of what this movie was going to be like.
Much better than the the trailer
You may recall in the first movie, “A New Hope” the rebellion leader Mon Mothma said of the Death Star plans that “these plans were obtained at great cost…” This movie is all about that cost for those plan.
I got so upset watching this moving, you see we went to see this in 3D the week of december release, then Carrie Fisher passed away a week later, we then went to see it again in 2D the following week, it was so upsetting to see her again knowing she had just passed away. Not a dry eye in the movie theatre.

"Is He CGI?"
Yes, he was CGI. Peter Cushing, the actor who played Grand Moff Tarkin in Episode IV, had died several years before this movie was even conceived
This is my favorite Star Wars film. If you REALLY want to deep dive, read (or listen to the audiobook) Catalyst. It is the first prequel to Rogue One about Jyn's parents and how everything got to this point. I listened to the audiobook just before watching this movie and it was the best thing I've ever done. This movie gives me major feels. So glad you are so enthused!
Love the running joke of the screen going black and white whenever she gets a piece of trivia wrong or smth like that lol
I recently watched ALL of Star Wars, movies and shows (yes even all the animated ones) in chronological order and it was honestly such an amazing journey! I would do it again in a heartbeat. 10 out of 10 highly recommend it!
I'm just about done doing the same thing and am in the middle of Ahsoka (my second viewing), then it's on to the sequel trilogy.
Did you watch Ewoks?
Andor (the TV show prequel to Rogue One) is also great, maybe even greater in places, but it starts out rather slow and builds up over its first season. (Can't wait to see later ones, if any. Might be as many as five.) Andy Serkis is in it.
I realize you have to change the pitch of the voices sometimes to throw off the copyright detector or whatever, but when Darth Vader appeared he sounded EXACTLY like Dave Prowse's real voice.
Generally, this is considered one of the most O.T.-styled Star Wars movies since The Empire Strikes Back. I hate that we lose the entire cast, but when you know characters have plot armor, how invested or concerned for their well-being can the audience really be. However, when you don't know ANYONE, and the people you thought were safe start dropping like flies, that's the audience's cue to get ready for an unpredictable ride where anything can happen.
The blind warrior is part of a group called The Guardians of the Whills. This is a callback to the original Star Wars novelization in which the opening text was said to be part of a book called "The Journal of the Whills.
Hope Ashleigh has Andor and Mandalorian in her Watch List
If you watch the first scene of "A New Hope" (the first Star Wars movie) right after the last scene of this one, you realize this happens RIGHT BEFORE the original starts. So when Leia says "this is a diplomatic ship," that's actually kind of funny.
The reason it's hard to tell whether Grand Moff Tarkin is real or fake is because it's CGI based off an actor who's been dead for years. He was in the first one.
Rogue One is such a great Star Wars film. As an old Gen-Xer now, this movie and The Mandalorian series are my two favorite in the Disney era... Ahsoka & Kenobi a tie for third :)
I found Ahsoka significantly better than Kenobi (they messed that one up pretty badly), and Andor far superior to either.
those are mine too Rogue One and Mandalorian are great
@@MravacKid I was really pleasantly surprised with Ahsoka... but should never doubt Filoni :)
Jyn Erso really was a child when she was younger ! Nice catch 😜
Jyn is not a Jedi. The Force is everywhere. It effects even those who aren't Force sensitive.
I love that they finally made something like The Dirty Dozen or Where Eagles Dare but Star Wars
