That last scene with Princess Leia is such an amazing full circle moment. I actually saw this movie the day Carrie Fisher passed away. I remember coming out of the theatre, looking at my phone and seeing the notification that she had died. Made that scene all the more emotional and profound. Needless to say that I cried endlessly that evening.
On the contrary, Vader’s line when he was choking Krennic is totally him: it’s like in ESB when he says “Apology accepted, Captain Needa.” right after he killed him. Vader has always had that dark sense of humor
I guess. Whether it's in character or not, it's still a terrible line. The entire Mustafar scene is unneeded. It adds nothing to the movie and Vader basically just serves the same role Tarkin is already serving. There didn't need to be two "Krennic get's dressed down by his superior" scenes. It's the worst scene in the movie. If you cut it completely the film is exactly the same.
“He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. At the age of 76, *Carl Weathers* was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life."
Fun fact: In the scene where K2-SO backhand's Cassian, Alan Tudyk actually smacked Diego Luna in the nose. And Diego Luna covers his face in the next shot to stop himself from laughing about it so as not to derail the improved line about there being a fresh one.
16:26 His lungs are damaged. You see why in Rebels. 45:31 This scene really makes the opening to A New Hope that much more badass. Leia straight up lies to Vader's face and both he and her know it, and she doesn't falter for a moment.
Alex, you need to double your editor's pay, and also put him in charge of what Star Wars thing you watch next, because that dude's a legit Star Wars veteran, getting all the easter eggs and references. He definitely knows the best way for you to watch the rest of it.
Alan Tudyk (the actor playing K2SO) accidently hit Diego Luna (Cassian Andor) for real in the, "I'm taking them to prison to imprison them," scene. If you go back and look at it, you can see that Luna covers his face...because he is laughing in surprise. You have to imagine the scene being filmed, with Tudyk standing on stilts, wearing a mo-cap suit with long arm extension things, super embarrassed because he just accidentally decked one of his co-stars.
As much as I like Rogue One, this is the worst part of the movie since it kind of ruins the beginning of A New Hope. The whole beginning of A New Hope is "We have some spies that have told us your ship has the plans that were stolen from us. So we're going to search your ship until we find them." and Leia saying "You have no proof. You stopped us randomly and we're a diplomatic vessel. I don't care what information you have about some plans aboard our ship." When you combine them together, it involves Vader literally at the door to their ship watching the plans go inside. He's about to murder them all. Then he turns and watches that ship leave. Then he apparently gets in his ship and jumps after them. Then, knowing with 100% certainty that they have the plans, Leia still attempts to convince them that there's some doubt. Plus, we're not sure how Vader tracked them to their location. In my head cannon this only makes sense if ANH was like a week later and they randomly ran into them...but then what were they doing during that week?
This film is so bad. It's a lazy and incomprehensible mess of clichés and unconnected scenes. Nothing the characters say makes sense or is of any consequence to the rest of the story. That people hail this film just because the prequels and sequels where insufferable is a testament to everything that's wrong with cinema today.
@@j.m.w.5064If most people like it and are entertained by it, then how is it bad cinema? What makes something "good cinema" in your opinion? Cinema is made to entertain and if it does that then it is good cinema.
Actually, it would be due to the fact that it's not one of the main movies (OT, Prequel, or Sequel.) Those are the only movies that get an opening scrawl. All of the shows and spinoff movies do their own opening style.
Don't ruin what,@@IshtarNike? That's just something I've noticed with most Star Wars media. They don't get opening scrawls unless they're a part of a trilogy. And, apparently Knights of the Old Republic got a scrawl, too, which seems to be unique...
@@greensmurf9623 It would indeed appear that most/all early star wars games got opening scrawls... the Star Wars: Jedi Knight games also had scrawls, only they weren't paired with the classic opening music. Those games, along with the original KOTOR, all came out early 2000s. Lucas must have made the decision later, as the original Clone Wars was probably when I noticed they stopped the opening scrawl.

@@Revculter Episode III in a nutshell, Alex: "Anakin should appreciate what he has" When the entire movie was Anakin trying to stop his wife and child from dying.
I really hope whoever thought of that got a raise. Not only was it badass, but it makes logical sense that they'd have a ship reinforced to ram things like large cruisers. For me the only thing that tops that is the Star Destroyer coming into the light as they lower the main weapon into the death star. That shot is beyond gorgeous amd pushed CGI pretty hard at the time.
The thing that makes me laugh about that scene is the fact that the bridge of the corvette is right at the bow. You know, the place that just took the full brunt of the impact from ramming. Hope their shields were good and they had their seatbelts on!
You should REALLY consider watching Andor - it's not just praised by fans, many of us consider it one of if not the single best thing to _ever come out of this franchise._ You wouldn't BELIEVE how good it gets. My favourite part of this scene is when vader chokes the one fleet trooper. In every other scene in star wars when someone force chokes someone they hold their fingers together like in Vader's scene with krennic, but in the hallway scene vader fully squeezes his fist, meaning that instead of just choking the guy he completely crushed his windpipe
@@shatteringthematrix6959 well yes and no. These were plebs right? So he had no reason to believe that they could escape him. It’s how he lost to doily the first time, it’s how he lost to Obi-wan, both times.
When you know the whole story and who Vader really is, you understand how much anger and hatred Anakin is releasing on those soldiers at the end and it is fucking glorious.
That chunk at the end where we finally got to see darth vader be terrifying was potentially the best part of star wars imo. It was so chilling, but put so much into context, specifically why everyone fears him. This is definitely my fav star wars movie, even with the bad cgi for harkin and leia.
Storm troopers are actually extremely effective soldiers. The only reason why you never see them do shit is because you’re always looking at them from the perspective of characters with plot armor. A normal trooper is said to have the ability to land 1 in 5 shots on an enemy, which is impressive even by a modern soldier’s abilities. It’s more likely that they’ve already killed most of the good guys already by the time the movies kick off. Regular rebels die pretty often to a storm trooper. They’re like the Combine in Half Life

It's also worth noting that the plot armor is also an in-universe thing as shown by Chirrut in this movie. The Force actively aids the heroes to make sure they can fulfill their destinies.
This movie fixes several ongoing issues fan had with the series, one of which was the bad aim of Stormtroopers. The Force protects Luke, Leia, Han, and other main characters. In world plot armor lol

Yeah, out of all the Star Wars movies released under DIsney, this is the one that's the most well regarded. And it's understandable to see why. The script is pretty tight for the most part, the action is spectacular, the cinematography was next level, the characters (while we don't have much time with them) are all pretty cool (at least in my opinion) and it has one of the most unique endings out of all the Star Wars movies. I mean, all the characters die and they don't even know for sure if the Rebellion will succeed in the end. But they made the ultimate sacrifice anyway just so others would have a chance to restore freedom to the galaxy. God, I love this movie!

I loved the grounded aspect as well, it reminded me of Halo ODST where you didn't play as a spartan. I didn't have many expectations going into this movie, but it really blew me away and gave me hope for the future of Star Wars (some of that hope may have fallen short)
@38:50 That goes to show Chris Weitz’s and Tony Gilroy’s abilities as good screenwriters, Gareth Edwards’ wonderful abilities as a director, as well as Alan Tudyk’s excellent voice performance. They were able to create a droid character that we could all feel sad for when he died. And they did it over the course of one movie. No small feat.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it in the comments but one of the reasons this movie's action scenes (especially on Scarif) felt different than previous SW battles is that instead of using WWII as a model for how the battles looked and felt (and were waged), Rogue One took inspiration from Vietnam for how it visually told the battle. Jungle fighting, asymmetrical tactics, even the gunship with the waist gunner was directly drawn from Vietnam.
I don't know how many times I've watched Rogue One now, but for some reason watching your reaction to it at the very end had me in tears once again. Love how much you loved this film! And when the time comes you HAVE to watch Andor, all about Cassian's backstory!

That slap he gives Cassian when they get cornered on Jedha was real and improvised by Tudyk, and they left it in. You can even see Diego Luna trying to cover a surprised smile during the rest of the scene. 😂 Also: many of the shots of the X-Wing pilots at the end of the movie are unused shots from the Death Star battle in A New Hope. That’s why if you look closely, they look kind of… off in terms of color and composition.
Yeah, that unused Death Star run footage is very apparent on Gold Leader. I love that they did that though, it shows that Gareth truly loves Star Wars and wanted it to make it tie into A New Hope as much as possible. I watched this on premier day on theatres. I’ll never forget how quiet it got in theatre the moment the lights went out in the hallway scene. And how wild it got when you could hear Vader’s breath. And people did not stop until Leía said “hope” then star wars music started. Everyone was clapping, whistling, and tearing up! Definitely one of my best movie experiences ever.
I'm a Star Wars fan since 1982 but Rogue One immediately went to the top when I saw it. It has everything that I love about Star Wars (World War II drama with space nazis) and none of the stuff I dislike (muppets doings silly voices). I like all the characters, the story is good, the humor slaps, the visual effects are impeccable and the final (space) battle is the absolute best and most epic in all of Star Wars. Having the balls to end it like it did is just the cherry on top!
@@outdun Yes, and I dislike those scenes. That's why Rogue One was able to knock the original trilogy down a peg, even though I'm a long time fan of them. That was my point. 😉 It's bascially decluttered, optimized Star Wars, almost tailor-made for my taste.

You probably don’t remember, but some of the actors in this movie have also portrayed a character in the MCU. Mads Mikkelsen (Galen Erso) was Kaecillius in Doctor Strange 2016, Forest Whitaker (Saw Gerrera) was Z’uri in Black Panther 2018, and Ben Mendelsohn (Orson Krennic) was Talos in Captain Marvel 2019. Jimmy Smitts previously portrayed Bail Organa in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Bail is Leia’s adoptive father. Out of all the deaths, K-2SO was the most emotional. Even as he was on his last knees, he still held on long enough to help his friends achieve their goal. My favorite characters overall were Chirrut Îmwe and Bodhi Rook. The Ip Man himself Donnie Yen is always a win. I also teared up as Chirrut in his dying words told his friend Baze Malbus to find him in the Force. Chirrut isn't a Jedi, but it's implied that he's Force-sensitive. He was able to sense Jyn's kyber crystal. What's special about kyber crystals is that they're connected to the Force. They're also what give power to the lightsabers. Also, Chirrut gets the funniest moment in the entire movie when they bagged him. Bodhi also deserves credit for his contributions to the team. His protocols were highly essential, especially with infiltrating Scarif. By the way, Riz Ahmed was also Carlton Drake in the first Venom film. He’s also a rapper and a member of the Swet Shop Boys. They haven’t released much music together as a group, but if you put Riz on the mic… watch out! Diego Luna reprised his role as Cassian Andor for the Spanish dub. He also has his own series titled Andor which takes place five years before the events of Rogue One. And yeah, he dubbed for his show in Spanish as well. The first season has 12 episodes, and a second season is on the way. The recent strikes delayed production, but Diego recently said that filming is almost complete. There were also plans to make up to five seasons, but after some extensive reviewing they decided to conclude the show with season two.
Just wanted to chime in and say Chirrut and Bohdi are my two favorites too! I couldn't believe the Bohdi disrespect, haha. I just want to give that guy a hug. K2 is definitely a close third. I'm so psyched for Andor S2.
33:20 The stormtrooper armor kind of works. What it does is disperse the blaster shot causing the trooper to be knocked out, but survive (if given medical care). So a deadly shot becomes a temporarily incapacitating shot instead.
I doubt that. Blaster bolts are able to melt the person underneath the armor to death. It's what happened to clones, and clones are far superior to Stormtroopers.
Ever had severe chest pain? I have. Now imagine that plus a searing heat turning your flesh into charcoal, taking away the breath in your lungs as you inhale the smoke. It hurts so much, you only have a tiny moment to scream out in pain but can't yell out if you survive, leaving you in excruciating agony. If you get hit center chest, your heart stops quickly. If you get grazed at the shoulder, you should be fine. Anyway, that's how I imagine getting shot by a blaster is like. Not a good time. @@thomass.3480
Whatever the current explanation, I think it's all just ret-conning. The actual answer is that George Lucas was creating a "White Hats vs Black Hats" story like the serials he grew up with and, in those stories, the bad guy's henchmen are disposable cannon fodder that drop immediately when the hero shoots at them. It's like any old western or 80s action flick where the hero runs into a hail of bullets, stand up and fires his gun fully out in the open, and doesn't even get grazed while every single shot he fires (whether he aims or not) takes down at least one henchman. Don't get me wrong: I love the Star Wars movies, but I don't feel like we need to bend over backwards to find a way that Lucas's cheese "actually makes sense." Because it doesn't. Stormtroopers are terrible shots and easy to kill because, if they weren't, the heroes would die in almost every encounter. Instead, Lucas gave the heroes full plate plot armor.
Alex, i saw this opening night. And it was unforgettable. Just imagine the crowd starting yelling at the top of their lungs when vader slaughtered everybody. Then the door opened showing Leia and then everybody went silent and some in tears and then the entire theater giving a standing ovation! Love this movie!

40:40 - You called C-3P0 “Goldman” (I don’t think you called him by his name even once)…trust me, we’re used to it, and it’s part of the charm of your reactions. 😂
This makes the opening of A New Hope actually kind of hilarious. "I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan..." "What are you talking about? I just saw your ship over Scarif yesterday!"
Fun fact the Blind Man was using force shield to protect himself hence why the Death Troopers couldn’t hit him. And why the one noticed and shot the terminal to cause an explosion instead of directly trying to hit him.
@@dibsdibs3495 There was no EU explanation cuz the EU was destroyed by Disney back then. This was the explanation given by context and lore. Including in the visual guide and Disney books. I am an EU purist but sadly no this isn’t based on the EU just context clues.
@@hagank1111 i know I mean Disney expanded universe. An expanded universe is what you say to refer to extra content that expands on a particular saga. It’s not a term that’s exclusive to Star Wars. If you’re just basing this on context clues then it’s just head canon. The force could’ve just moved the blaster bolts away because that was the will of the force and not necessarily chirrut using the force. That’s always been the justification for why the protagonists in SW movies never get shot.
@@dibsdibs3495 In this case as I said it’s based on context clues, which dose not mean head-canon if your actually knowledgeable on the subject and have evidence, information form the visual guides, books, and comics, esc. Also Disney dose not actually use the term Expanded Universe as that term eludes to the old EU and that’s something Disney hasn’t wanted attached to them until recently. They renamed the EU Legends because they wanted to change its name, it’s meaning, and it’s weight. The EU did mean material outside the movies but it grew into something far more then that. Needless to say that I cried endlessly that evening.
Me too Sophie, Cried a lot that day.
I found out 15 minutes before going in, so when the CGI Leia can on screen, waterworks.
One of Carrie Fisher’s last online posts was her mentioning that scene.
One of those moments for me that I will always remember. I still remember what I was doing before and after I got the notification.
It was yhe day after for me and mom was balling her eyes out and told us about it after we watched it.
On the contrary, Vader’s line when he was choking Krennic is totally him: it’s like in ESB when he says “Apology accepted, Captain Needa.” right after he killed him. Vader has always had that dark sense of humor
He *is* still a dad after all.
Ya, it's totally in line with Anakin/Vader

Rogue One is absolutely incredible. I love how it ends like 10 minutes before A New Hope picks up. Its awesome to watch them together.
You have got that right. I love in how the Death Star performs at a low setting just destroying an area not an entire planet.
I don't care what information you have about some plans aboard our ship."
When you combine them together, it involves Vader literally at the door to their ship watching the plans go inside.
The reason there is no opening scroll is because this story is the story told in the opening scroll of A New Hope.

I hadn't thought of that! Good point!
And why couldnt big V just pull all rebels to him?..
that's kind of a fail on vaders part dont you think? He could have just shut the door instead of keeping it open a crack allowing the plans to escape.
@@shatteringthematrix6959 well yes and no. These were plebs right? So he had no reason to believe that they could escape him. As Luke so pointedly said later on, Palpatines overconfidence is his weakness, and in this case the same is true for Vader.

And Riz is in one of the funniest movies ever: Four Lions.
Just wanted to chime in and say Chirrut and Bohdi are my two favorites too! I couldn't believe the Bohdi disrespect, haha. I just want to give that guy a hug. K2 is definitely a close third.
I'm so psyched for Andor S2.
34:00 the alien is actually screaming “AT-AT”, which is the name for the big four-legged walkers
You could be right. I didn’t do any in-depth research. Just remembered reading it somewhere, and did a quick google.
Also that doesn’t seem to go along with people surviving blaster shots to the shoulder and seeming fine (other than pain).
Nothing quite like a fresh Alex Star Wars reaction. Love these
“Guess they’ll need a new Red 5” Clever editor
Alex, i saw this opening night. And it was unforgettable. Just imagine the crowd starting yelling at the top of their lungs when vader slaughtered everybody. Then the door opened showing Leia and then everybody went silent and some in tears and then the entire theater giving a standing ovation! Love this movie!
What I would give to watch that scene for the first time again
In those days, I really thought this is what Disney's Star Wars was going to be.
Those innocent days...
Same. I live in europe and we got this a day before the US. I saw this 3 times in a row, opening day, and afterwards called my US friends (in the middle of the night) and told them what I just saw. This was my second best movie experience ever (Jurassic park was first.. )
33:15 editor is the real unsung hero lmao
Chopper 😂❤
35:13 The Iron Giant: "I am _not_ a gun."
K2SO: "Ohhh- _yeahhh..."_
So glad to see a hype reaction for the end scene with Vader. I was grinning like an idiot in theaters when I saw this. I missed Episode IV by a decade so it was so cool to see Darth Vader on screen being an absolute badass.
The "Camo" Imperial Troopers are called Shore Troopers and the ones wearing all black with green eyes are Death Troopers (a very elite class Trooper that guard high profile Imperials.)
I love that they referenced General Syndulla on the overcoms at 27:55
Rogue One is one of my favorite Star Wars movie. Like I legit have watched it like 15 times.
Only 15?😂
That’s it?
40:40 - You called C-3P0 “Goldman” (I don’t think you called him by his name even once)…trust me, we’re used to it, and it’s part of the charm of your reactions. 😂
only reaction channel i watch... i fucking love you dude... love the reacts... please keep them coming...
I love how delighted Alex is by K-2SO. One of my favorite droids in all of Star Wars! (Right behind C1-10P. Heh!)
finally he discovered the best Disney Star Wars movie! i hope he will love the Andor series too
This makes the opening of A New Hope actually kind of hilarious.
"I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan..."
"What are you talking about? I just saw your ship over Scarif yesterday!"
Fun fact the Blind Man was using force shield to protect himself hence why the Death Troopers couldn’t hit him. And why the one noticed and shot the terminal to cause an explosion instead of directly trying to hit him.
Even more fun is the blind man is Donnie Yen. He also played Ip Man AKA Bruce Lee's teacher.
Was that like the EU explanation or was that what the writers/director of the film originally intended.
I wasn’t referring to Legends. It’s quicker to say EU than “novel, comic book, guidebook, audio drama, video game, etc.” I was just asking cuz I know there was that comic about chirrut and the other guy and also the prequel novel to rogue one called Catalyst.
It was indeed the Will of the Force but he was slightly force sensative as well. So it’s not head canon. However, Disney has never had an EU as they don’t call their things outside their movies EU. They just call it apart of their Universe because they want it to all be one thing. The Disney Canon. This is something they’ve made known time and time again.
ok now you've GOTTA watch
Andor. Its a legit masterpiece
Particularly with Skellan Skarsgard. Also, I want a spin-off with Andy Serkis' character.
Noted. I kind of lost interest with Asokha and some of Mando.
@@chrispile5553 No joke, it is shocking how good Andor is. It's definitely a much slower burn than most Star Wars content, but give it a couple episodes and you will be floored. If you really like intricate plots and more character driving stuff, it's maybe the best thing to come out of this franchise since the original trilogy.
@@vsGoliath96Andor is amazing
It's Star Wars but it's just real... it's "realistic" it feels alive... it's organic i don't know... it's just really cool
34:16 "This is Uhh Gouche leader standing By!" I CRACKED 🤣😂🤣🤣
39:18 These troopers are called Death Troopers and have been physically "perfected" to be more effective, and there is a rumor (which has its origins in a comic with actual undead stormtroopers) that the Death Troopers are actually undead.
This is not the first time I've heard this.. but I now just realised.. could that be done with Night Sister magic?
I’d argue Andor and The Mandalorian (season 1 and 2) are definitely worth checking out too if you crave more live action Star Wars content that is extremely enjoyable
I appreciate the choice of words of “live action” :)
Did you finish the Mandalorian season 3 though?? The last 2 episodes had some insane fight sequences and I loved getting more madalor-lore. Ya, I could have used less of Bo Katan, but Jin Darin never wanted to lead the mandalorians, so I was ok with her taking the lead in that sense. The original mando characters were still the best characters.
@@leora8278 I did finish season 3, and I did not mind Bo Katan having a prominent role in the season, my issue is more so with the writing and pacing of the story they did try to tell. There were moments for sure when the season was great, it's just that the vast majority of the season had rushed elements and they had to jump through several loops to accomplish what it was they were trying to do, e.g. Din giving up the Dark Saber in the manner that he did. I wasn't opposed to Din giving up the darksaber, but the direction they took was very lazy.
To summarize: weird pacing issues, rushed elements, but still some great moments by the latter part of the season. You can't deny there was a significant drop in quality from season 1 and 2 to 3. The story felt like it had far less weight.
@Krisishere I felt like it had more weight just because we were dealing with the future of the Mandalorian culture, but I agree it definitely could have used a longer season to give us more info.
@@leora8278 It didn’t even necessarily need a longer season, it needed to better utilise the time it had.
😅I salute the editor your little quips make me chuckle
The stormtrooper armor displaces the laser blasts force across the body. Softening the blow leaving you most likely alive but knocked out for a while.
Leia did headshots i Empire Strikes Back. I don't think a stormtrooper will come back from that anytime soon
"Star Wars: Bad Bitch" would totally be a show I'd watch! 🤣
4:43 Laughed my ass off at the reaction to the title card! The confusion! The dejection! 🤣🤣
Favorite line in this Movie " Are you kidding me, Im blind." donnie yen and alan tudyk in a Star wars movie Was a perfect idea
Fun fact - that final scene with Vader was a last minute change when they decided to include it in the movie.
